A picture of soup from Zoup

(This review is for the location on North Ave, Grand Junction, Colorado) When it comes to their soup in a word: Wow. Have never been a big soup person and have never thought of it as more than a side. Whenever I drove past a Zoup I always wondered why someone would make a restaurant advertising soup as their title- because I've never once considered soup to worthy of being a main course. However, one summer day my roommate and his girlfriend went to Zoup and brought me back a small Tomato Bisque soup from Zoup. As a soup novice I expected it to taste like tomato soup. Instead I discovered a magical experience that changed my opinion on soup forever. You might think I'm exaggerating- but I'm not. In fact, I loved it so much I went out and ordered more then left this review. Now, for their other options like sandwiches and french bread sides- I was not very impressed while I might consider them "good enough" I would not get them again. However, why would you go to a soup place and then not order soup? That's like going to Dairy Queen to buy a hamburger. Stick to the soups for a magical experience.

Tomato soup and cheese and pesto sandwich

Giving 4 stars because nothing subtracted from our experience but we also weren't blown away. We weren't even sure if they were open because it was so dimly lit. It was also pretty chilly inside (my husband's theory is that it makes people want more soup). The service was great, the guy at the register was happy to answer all of our questions and offered many samples. I got the tomato soup with the pesto cheese sandwich. My husband got the chicken pot pie soup with the same sandwich. Not that we each needed an entire sandwich to ourselves but it would've been nice to know in advance that we were only receiving half with our soups, especially since it wasn't super cheap. The sandwich itself also kinda tasted like it was premade and slightly heated up? I say slightly because the bread was cold and the cheese wasn't melted at all. The tomato soup was fine, not necessarily anything to write home about. We were also confused because my soup bowl was double the size of my husband's. I ended up giving him half my half sandwich. It was a nice place to go on a rainy day but we probably won't go back.

    Soupy delight.

So delicious! I'm a big fan of this place now. First time having it for lunch, and wow was I blown away! We all got some soups and sandwiches for lunch at work today and everyone was thoroughly impressed. Big chunks of lobster in my lobster bisque! I don't know how they made it happen, everyone in town wanted soup today due to the weather. I know I will be back soon! Thanks for whipping up a delightful meal for our whole office today, we all needed some Zoup!

My "steak salad" had no steak on it, or crispy onions. NOT a steak salad. I had it delivered so I couldn't get it fixed.

Portions too small, the quality of ingredients is not great. Not a good choice for an affordable fresh meal. Try elsewhere.

There were bits of queso fresco crumbled over the whole thing, giving that tang. Even the brown rice was treated with the utmost respect and has the most amazing flavor and hearty texture! Lastly, I'm sure someone back there made that citrus crema from scratch and I basically licked that little ramekin clean! Thank you, thank you! A stop anyone in Junction will not regret!

I could mention several criticisms of recent managerial decisions, but I'll just limit it to one. The "American Breakfast" has disappeared, replaced by an a la carte ordering model. I assume this reflects price creep and the reality that the market will not support a $20 counter-service breakfast (especially one that prompts for pre-tipping) when a comparable $12 option is available across the street at a full-service restaurant. Combined with long wait times and lukewarm food, caused by either amateurs in the kitchen or lackadaisical food delivery by the counter-staff, Cafe Sol has regretfully moved to my "occasionally OK" list.

My go to is the Spicy Southwest Chicken sandwich, sometimes with a different choice of bread. I change up the soup or spud every other time I come in and usually satisfied with the choices. The service isn't always the best unfortunately, and as much as I love this place, that's what brings it down a star. But they do a good job of clearing off tables and keeping the whole place looking clean so I will give them that. Love this place and will definitely be returning the next time passing through.

It took almost 15 minutes just to place our order because the line was SO long, then another 30 minutes to finally get a table. After all that, we still had to wait around 20 more minutes for the food to actually come out. The staff didn't seem rude, just really exhausted and low-energy. The whole place felt stressful instead of welcoming, and there wasn't much pep or friendliness in the atmosphere at all. I think this place has lots of potential, and this might have just been busy workers during rush hour, but it really needs to be quicker, happier, and overall a more fun place to be. Right now, the experience just doesn't match the prices or the hype.
