I was filled with so much nostalgia when I walked Zoonie's yesterday. This store carries classic candies from my childhood, many that I've never seen before too! Huge selection of merchandise, and the offerings are reasonably priced too. There are toys, tin lunch boxes, gelatos, homemade confections, self serve candies (sold by the lbs), individually packaged candies, and classic soda pops too! There is also an area where you can sit and watch a movie. The Wizard of OZ was being played during my visit, and you may sit in one of the three chairs while you're there! I always hurt my wallet dearly when coming here. The gummy candy, taffy, other miscellaneous candy here is such a treat and so enjoyable to eat. They have a lot of cool specialty items, like Harry Potter theme candy, those Japanese food making kits, other candies I've never really seen before (cow tails, Zippes, etc). Very cool place! Watching movies inside with my friends has also been fun too, and I've had a very chill experience with all of the service people there. read more

We were doing a walk of the Mt Diablo shopping strip and stopped by here on a whim to get my son some candy. What prompted me to leave a review was the amazing service given to me by the owner or manager of the store. I inquired about soft peanut butter options for my dad and the worker gave me a run down of everything the store had to offer that fit what I was looking for. On top of that, the store has great decor and a little bench you can watch a movie on that my toddler enjoyed. I ended up getting him a toy, filling a bag of candy, and getting a bag of jelly belly's and was pleasant surprised to see the total was only $7! Great pricing, great service, fun ambiance. (A side note: I saw the same worker jog down a couple waiting at a light just to apologize in case they felt they were being ignored which I find to be such a pleasant interaction) read more

LOVE LAFAYETTE After falling in love with Lafayette nearly 6 years ago, I finally made my first trip to Zoonie's. And boy was it a pleasant adventure! The candy store is conveniently located in downtown Lafayette, near a variety of shops and restaurants. And though I love many of the eateries within walking distance to Zoonie's, I never would have stepped foot into the candy store had it not been for my niece's 7th birthday. We enjoyed a TT and niecey birthday brunch at Batch & Brine. And as she was finishing her chicken and waffles, she looked across the street and said TT can we please go to the candy store. So we quickly paid the bill and off we went. From first moment I stepped into the store I began reliving different aspects of my childhood as I saw the swirl lollipops, the dots candy with the white paper back, the airheads, and the large assortment of PEZ candy dispensers. Then I looked to the left and it was as if I'd been transported back to the 80s, when I first watched Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. They have a small theater area and the movie that I remember vividly from my childhood was playing in the screen and above the television there were several Willy Wonka chocolate bars. I couldn't help but wonder if one contained the highly sought after GOLDEN TICKET. What can I say, some things are etched into our memory banks. Lol. We strolled through the store purchasing all of our favs and kicked back in the theater area and enjoyed the show. First off, who wouldn't give this place five stars? The store is super clean, their staff is beyond amazing, friendly, extremely service oriented, professional, kind, patient, feels like Willy Wonka's factory in here! They have a massive assortment of candy, dating back to everyone's childhood (and I mean EVERYONE). They have an assortment of gummy's and sours in the bins on the wall but they are situated so that you need an associate to assist which is a fantastic idea because of Covid. Super sanitary, puts your mind at ease, and they know all of the nutritional information about the candies! There are no candy stores like this, that exist anymore. This place is so charming and sweet it's definitely worth a visit! If you are into rewarding kids with treats, and come on, live a little, let the kids have some sugar some times, you can bring them here and let them promise to choose their own item and they'll have a wonderful Wonka-like wander through the barrels and boxes and clear display cases of all the candy you can think of, and many you could never. My tastes are a little more urbane so I like the chocolate items they sell behind the glass counters: the peanut butter cups are giant, made with dark chocolate, and filled with a fluffy peanut butter icing of a sort. But the caramel clouds, with marshmallow under a dark chocolate shell, might be the killer item. My mouth is watering! This is one of the best places in lafayette you could ever go to, with an amazing variety of candy from the old and new, with serving some of the best gelato around, the young man who runs the counter is such a funny and generous server as well, he made sure we got to taste everything we wanted and more (they even gave me a cookie without extra charge for my gelato). I just feel like a little kid again being in here from the classic music and decoration's. What a cute spot to come to. If you're in need to crave something sweet this is the place be. It is filled with an amazing variety of candy from the present and the past. It's like stepping into a Willy Wonk candy store (you might even see it being played on their TV.) They also, have some gourmet truffles and gelato. The service is amazing. Every time I have come they have been attentive and super helpful. It is pricey and one can get carried away so you have to be carful. I always loved that I was able to sit down and watch Willy Wonka which is one of my favorite movies. I don't go down to San Jose often, so having Zoonie's so close to me is awesome! I appreciate the variety of candy that is sold here. Currently due to the pandemic you need to ask an associate to bag your candy from the bulk bins or you can simply grab a bag that's packed towards the middle area of the bulk bins. I grabbed a variety of sour belts that were already packaged which made the process even easier! I honestly wasn't a fan of putting the candy in bags myself. There is also gelato which I will have to grab next time! I definitely recommend this candy store to anyone who has a sweet tooth as you can spend hours going through all the candy and also watch Willy Wonka while you're there! read more

Zoonie's used to be Powell's, end it is now weigh less cluttered and every bit as good! They have a whole wall full of candies that you can dump into a bag and then pay by the pound. They have all kinds of old-time candy, and new candy bars as well. They have gelato and handmade chocolates in a special refrigerated case. Unlike Powell's, they don't sell lots of coffee mugs and gimmicky little toys. It's still as good as ever! And maybe a little better. read more

This lovely place was a refuge when I was younger as it had all the throwback "Charlie and the Chocolate factory" feel to it. We purposely went out of our way from Berkeley to find our favorite imported candies and indulge in our favorite gelato ice cream, Coppa Mista. As we got older and had kids, we would return frequently. One day during wine festival that my husband's band was performing in, the kids and I stepped away on a hot summer day and got our usual. I waited at the counter for some time as I noticed to young service members standing behind the refrigerated chocolate display leaning up against the corner for the whole time we were standing at the counter. I looked around and saw a few patrons and thought that perhaps they weren't working at the register. I waited. I looked at them and when they finally made eye contact, the lady walked up to me and proceeded to ring me up. All with no word, just a stare. When she finished she handed me the bag and promptly turned around. I asked, "may I please order some gelato?", she turned around and said "what?", I said " I also wanted A small kids chocolate and a medium coppa mista, thank you". She walked past the ice cream, and the young man behind the counter said " what's wrong?" She said " THEY WANT ICE CREAM!". I had no idea what I did to make her upset. She asked me again after she responded to the young man" what do you want again?" Me: a medium coppa mista and a small chocolate Her: you mean "coppa mista", as if she didnt understand me and corrected my pronunciation. She raised her voice. When she returned she handed me the ice cream in the wrong order. Small coppa mista and medium chocolate. I felt so offended by her standoffishness. I felt like her body language and tone and overall disgusted demeanor made an otherwise usually great experience to the worst ever. My daughter was shocked. She had never heard anyone speak to us in such a manner. I had to explain to my 5yr old that sometimes people aren't happy and they have to project this others. It not our fault. I almost felt like it was because of the color of my skin, to rationalize it, but I couldn't share that with her. We never came back because of that experience. Horrible customer service! read more

I was immediately excited to see this store. Zoonie's is one of the best candy stores I've ever been too! The place can be overwhelming at first, in a good way! Why wouldn't one want to be overwhelmed with excitement?! The candy is organized into various categories. For example, English chocolate was found in a cute telephone booth and jelly beans were all placed together. Zoonie's also makes their own chocolate, which I was unable to try the day I went. I got a tiny piece of their English Toffee, and was not impressed...See's and Godiva are much better. Too sticky, not much flavor, no buttery taste. Heavy chocolate coating. Not so much.
