Specialties
We are a family owned and operated business specializing in emergency fire making products and fishing gear for the outdoors-person and survivalist. From primitive friction fire-making, to 18th century flint and steel, to more robust military and search and rescue fire starters and everything in between; when it comes to making an emergency fire or just a simple camp fire, we have the products to get the job done. As well as single piece items and convenient survival kits, such as our SAR Tin and Bushcrafter Kit, we also make custom knives. We also provide training in various skill sets, such as friction-fire making using a bow drill, 18th century flint and steel and specific fishing techniques. Because we believe that fishing, along with fire making, is a key survival skill set, we offer fishing gear specifically designed to put good food on the table consistently. Our gear is handmade and 100% unique. Come give us a visit!
History
Established in 2012.
I started the business in my garage. I wanted to make a fire starter that would work (get a fire started) for me and my family, even in the very worse conditions imaginable; rain, wind, snow, cold, etc., even when my fire starter was wet and all I had to burn was wet. I succeeded in my pursuit and wanted to share the invention with the world so that it may help them as much as it helped me. The end result was ugly, but burned long and hot! So, the name was forged - Zombie Tinder. From there I just branched out to other areas of fire making. From primitive friction fire to 18th century flint and steel gear and everything in between. We now have a shop in Arlington WA and having a lot of fun making gear that makes fires!
Meet the Business Owner: Mike R.
Hi! My name is Mike Raether.
I was born and raised in the great state of Washington, and I've enjoyed the Pacific Northwest's great outdoors all my life.
Almost year-round, my dad took me fishing for trout and salmon just about everywhere they swam. During Washington's big game season we'd sneak through river bottoms or up mountains in search of big black-tailed bucks. Sometimes we'd just go camping somewhere to get out from under the city lights.
These same activities and more I now enjoy with my family -
Fishing the Straight of Juan de Fuca for salmon,
Digging for razor clams on ocean beaches,
Camping in the Olympic National forests,
Hiking the high country, and
Hunting for all kinds of game, large and small.
For me, this is life to the full - living, playing, and relaxing in the Pacific Northwest. For all these things I'm thankful, but most of all I'm thankful to the God of Heaven for every second.
