Zombie Taco is extremely convenient when staying at Moxy Hotel. I'm honestly not sure why it only has 3.5 stars because I had such good experiences here. On our annual Christmas Chicago trip we stayed at Moxy Hotel in River North. Zombie Taco is located inside the hotel, but also has a walk up window to order take out 24/7. For a snack on our first night I ordered a Baja Style Fish taco and a Thick Cut Jalepeno Bacon taco while sitting at the bar. After a night of drinking, this is the best thing I can ask for. I had a Zombie burrito with chips and guacamole. It was huge and yummy! The guacamole was delicious as well! For breakfast, I ordered two tacos, the Thick cut Jalepeno bacon and the Chicken Chorizo. I loved both of them. My husband got the American Burrito it was cheesy, potatoey, and had lots of eggs. I ate here three times while in Chicago and every time I enjoyed my food and had good service. They also offer coffee, snacks, salads, fruit and other goodies you can purchase. It's a great addition to the hotel and River North! Love it! read more

This is a great late night spot. I like the point of service. Walk up from the outside and place your order in the tablet yourself. No human interaction at all. Extremely tasty. I stayed at The Moxy for business over the last few days and I picked up a dinner taco last night and a breakfast taco this morning at Zombie Taco. Last night I tried the barbecue brisket taco and it was quite good, although a little spicier than I was expecting. It comes with guacamole on top and some sort of mayo or aioli. I also got a chai tea in a bottle which was very good. This morning, I tried out the jalapeno bacon breakfast taco which was also delicious. They have a few other breakfast taco options but they all have eggs and I'm not a fan of eggs. Both times the cashiers were pleasant and offered suggestions, and my tacos were made very fast. You can take your order to go and even eat it in your room, and either the outside ordering window or both that and the lobby restaurant are open 24/7 - I believe both. Tacos range from $3 to $4 I believe which is a little pricey but for Chicago isn't too bad. I would definitely come back here when in the area or when staying at the hotel. read more

Zombie Taco is such an amazing find! If you can't find the entrance...it's tucked in the corner of Moxy's versatile bar/lobby (which is a whole adventure in itself). Today I had the Zombie Burrito, and WOW! What an explosion of flavor in its mix of delicious ingredients. I stopped by last Saturday because my mom and I saw this place and the Moxy Hotel in the paper; we just had to check it out. Moxy Hotel is supposed to be geared towards millennials and what's better than a taco joint in your lobby!? Great for snacks and late night eats, Zombie Taco has it all. I also saw some salads, mini alcohol bottles, delicious looking donut-croissants, and cute merch. I ordered the beef brisket taco just to try it out (we were on our way to dinner and wanted to kill time). My mom said I could just have it and I agreed (LOL) because I said most taco places don't even have meat on every bite and I'm sure it wasn't gonna be a huge taco. Boy was I wrong! The taco was an average size but there was soo much beef in it!! Every bite had beef and even some falling out of it. It was very good. I loved the sauce, the brisket was tender, and there was a good amount of avocado. The tacos are $3.50-$4.50 and that avo is already $2 extra at Chipotle. You can do the math and see that it's worth it. I also like that Zombie has a to-go window on the sidewalk and you can eat anywhere in the lobby. The menus in the lobby include tacos and drinks from the bar so I'm assuming if you're seated further from the taco place, you can just order what you want and have it served to you. The breading on the outside was nice and crispy and I was sure that this was going to be delicious. It was cooked nice and crispy just the way I like it. But once I took a bite I was very disappointed that it wasn't not done in the inside. I went back up to the cook and showed him the taco and he explained to me that it was well cooked but he could make me another one. I'm not sure how he thought it was well cooked. I stayed at The Moxy and I love the concept of this 24 hour taco place that is inside the hotel. Usually I resort to door dash when traveling on my own so I was really excited about Zombie Taco. I tried 3 tacos but only ended up enjoying (and finishing) 1 of them. The Braised Brisket taco was the best by far, and i would definitely have it again. The Charred Korean beef was inedible to me, the pickled cucumber tasted more like feet than vinegar, yuck. I thought I'd like the Thick Cut Jalepeno bacon taco the best, but turns out I don't like thick cut bacon AND the taco was way too mayo-y in taste and texture, so I couldn't finish it, it grossed me out. I did really enjoy the Adobo BBQ Nachos, which were super flavorful even before adding on the queso, sour cream and guacamole. However, because this is a taco place, I feel I have to rate it 3 stars because it's a bad sign when only 1 of the 3 tacos were good, and the other two were very unpleasant. My boyfriend and I came here late night for dinner on my last trip to Chicago. He had seen it downtown one day while he was working and suggested it. Spoiler alert - it was an amazing suggestion. The set up is a little strange because you can sit anywhere and it's kind of lounge-y so seemed a bit awkward. We grabbed two seats at a high top and the server was over quick. We each ordered two tacos, plus we split the street corn and taquitos. Everything was amazing. The street corn was some of the best I've had. The brisket taco is stellar. Overall, the food here was good. I really liked the chips and queso, guac, and salsa. I also tried 4 tacos - vegetarian, chicken, brisket, and carnitas. The meat in all 3 was good but needed more contrasting flavors. The chicken taco is supposed to have a lime crema but I couldn't really taste it. Same with the ranch on the brisket. They are a bit one-note. The salsa helps. The tortilla seemed to be stale only on the vegetarian taco. A dessert option would be nice. I tried the Braised Brisket, Korean Beef, Pork Carnitas, Quinoa and Cauliflower, Adobo BBQ Chicken. Loved the Korean and Carnitas! Two to three is enough for a good meal given the tacos are quite stuffed! Every taco comes with a lime slice to squeeze and the flour tortilla is soft and ever so slightly scorched making it crispy on the edges. Also tried the American burrito which isn't too exciting, but a good portion size. Packed with hash brown like potato, egg, cheese and tomato salsa. The taquitos are really good! Six cheeses and fatty beef brisket in two crunchy fried tortillas with a tomatillo sauce on the side. Not only is the restaurant located on the inside of the Moxy Hotel / nightclub, it also has a 24 hour walk up window that lets it serve the River North neighborhood's mightiest at all hours of the night. In my case, I really enjoyed Chicago during the previous evening and was hoping to spend a low key morning at the hotel before leaving to catch an afternoon flight home. I wasn't in any mood to hunt for food in the neighborhood and chose Zombie because it was in the lobby. The food, while edible, is about what you think it would taste like if you went some place that scooped its food out of tin bins, sprinkled some cheese out of a bag on top and then cooked your breakfast burrito in a counter top toaster oven. And on this morning, which was the beginning of the day after, it tasted really really good. Zombie Taco won't win any awards, but it will be there when you need it. read more

The total was $19 for the two which I thought was pretty expensive. I assumed this was a pretty quick place to get food but we ended up waiting quite awhile so I was already annoyed at that. The food was also a disappointment. The tortilla was way to crispy that it crumbled when we tried to eat it. The cheese quesadilla had a very unpleasant aftertaste. Terrible customer service. Neither self-payment terminal was working or even acknowledging my attempts to pay, so I asked the two people behind the counter tonight (5/26/24) for assistance. One person (taller woman, dark hair) responded "then if you want to place an order you'll have to go the bar" very shortly even after the person before me had trouble paying. Clearly your hardware stinks. If you want to be in business, either get self-service hardware that works OR be kind and responsive when someone asks for assistance. Stopped for lunch and had Korean Beef taco, Braised Brisket taco, Zombie Burrito, Chips, a side of Salsa, and two pops and it came to $28. And mind you - one of the tacos was free! That is expensive - given that the tacos were of small size, the chips were a little stale and not a huge amount of them, and the side of salsa was almost an after thought. I say that b/c they don't have a really spicy salsa so they had to improvise and provide the tomatillo salsa for us. You're a taco place - you should have a spicy salsa....besides Cholula. The Korean taco was very good and I definitely recommend that taco. The brisket was okay and the burrito was okay. But nothing that stood out to either my husband or I. So while I still have a 15% off coupon from them, I don't see myself using it. read more

Where's the beef? So, I sampled food from Zombie Taco twice while I was in Chicago - once at Bar Moxy at dinner, and again for breakfast the next morning. Both of the tacos I had were very good, but, particularly for the price I paid, there's simply wasn't enough protein. The fish taco had one very small piece of fried fish buried under slaw and other toppings, when it really should've had twice that much. Ditto for the thick cut bacon taco that I had for breakfast the next morning - hard to find the bacon among the cheaper ingredients. I understand and sympathize with the restaurant industry: it's trying to recover from the fake pandemic and struggling in the midst of a recession. However, if you're going to charge significantly more for your menu items, you can't cut back on the quality or quantity. When I return to Chicago, I will absolutely stay at the Moxy again, but I probably won't pick up anything at Zombie Taco. Cool vibe in the Moxy hotel. All of the windows open up fully when the weather is nice, which is awesome. The bathroom is on the second floor and it's definitely a journey, so plan accordingly. The chicken bbq m nachos are whack. The burrito is the only decent thing on this menu. Service is kind but slow, as there wasn't enough wait staff to handle the amount of people ordering food. It didn't stop my beautiful prego wife from devouring it though. :-) If there was one thing to ding them on is the lack of heat in their salsas.
