Sugo Pasta - Amazing!!

Sugo Pasta

I saw Sugo first recommended on a Scotland travel FB group and mentally catalogued it for our days…read morein Glasgow...the last day of our trip we were at a bar having a few drinks and snacks and both the guy next to us and the bartender strongly suggested it, without knowing it was on my radar - confirming our need to go, and I'm so so glad we did! We put our name on the list and didn't even have time for me to order a glass of wine from the bar before we were called. The place is larger than I expected, and loud, with its high ceilings and has an industrial feel. Its like a pasta nightclub haha! We ordered the panzanella as a starter on the strong recommendation of our fellow bar patron, the spinach and ricotta ravioli and the beef ragu. The flavors in the panzanella were SO rich, ingredients so so fresh and it was absolutely delicious. The ragu was generous sized and great as well - but the real star of the show was the ravioli. Literally the best pasta dish I've had in my life. It was so buttery and flavorful, we both agreed it was phenomenal. From sitting down to checking out it was very fast as well. I hope to have the chance to get back here some day!

This place was an amazing find! Very simple menu but done to perfection! The place was super busy…read morebut we have a table for 4 within 5 minutes. The waitstaff was exceptional. Checking in at a very comfortable interval. We never felt rushed or forgotten. A must try when in Glasgow.

When's the worst time to suddenly decide you want to go out for dinner? I'm not sure but I think…read more9:30 pm on a Monday night has to be a strong contender, at least in Glasgow. So maybe it was ill advised that this was the exact time I chose to drag my other half to Sarti but I think I got away with it. The staff didn't seem to mind at all that we'd showed up so late and without a reservation. We were welcomed, seated and our drinks orders were taken (I was gently guided away from an inferior bottle of wine to a nicer one for the same price, which is always a nice touch). I ordered a mixed wild mushroom pizza while my partner went for the spaghetti bolognese and everything was absolutely delicious, fresh and perfectly prepared. I love a good mushroom pizza and this is one of the better ones I've tried in Glasgow. We briefly considered dessert but, being the last people in the restaurant this time, decided it would be better to save it for a time when we were more organised. We paid the bill and were invited to a small glass of limoncello with the staff before we left. My partner normally hates the stuff (although he likes lemons) but actually enjoyed this one, so there's another minor victory. I've visited Sarti before but with a large group and found everything to be great on that occasion too but it was quite a long time ago. It's good to know that they're still doing everything right. We'll be back soon and hopefully at a more reasonable time.

I'm pretty bummed to be giving Verona only 3 stars as it's somewhere I previously really liked -…read moreI'd visited a few years back and remember wondering why I didn't visit more often as the food and service was excellent at the time. We booked for an early Friday evening dinner. The decor of Verona is pretty nice - large booth around the windows, lots of dark timber features and generally a classy, slick vibe. It's really nice to sit in one of the booths and look out at the world rushing by - I'd highly recommend requesting one when you book if you're going at a busy time. We ordered from the pre-theatre menu - 2 courses for £11.95. I got the breaded mozzarella and mushrooms, followed by the pollo Verona (chicken with mushroom, onion, pepper in a cream sauce with rice or vegetables), as well as a side of mozzarella garlic bread. The food arrived pretty quickly. My starter had two mozzarella sticks and two mushrooms with a small salad and pot of sauce. It was pleasant enough but overall a little plain and unexciting. The main hit the same level of "ok" - the portion was a little on the small side, and while there was nothing wrong with the dish, it just wasn't remarkable in any way. While I don't eat out expecting to be eating omgamazing food at every single meal, I do like my food to be a little interesting. This reminded me of a basic meal I'd make at home when I didn't have the inclination to make something more interesting. I do have to say that the service was really good, and saved this review from slipping down to two stars. The waitresses were really friendly and chatty, and we never had to wait long for our drinks or bill. The bill came to £40-something with a couple of soft drinks and a glass of wine. Unfortunately I'm not sure I'd rush back to Verona after this mediocre experience.

Post Elite Event drinks in The Pot Still (read review, go there, now, why still here?) led to the urgent need for chips. This place happened to be on my way to the taxi rank, new (i am a yelper aren't I?) and open. Win x 3. With the booze flowing, the healthy minded person within my brain decided that a haggis supper was quite possibly the best thing in the world to order. Order it I did. Quality wise, I'd have to say that it was pretty high. I've eaten my fair share of chips over the years and these were pretty damn nice. Haggis? Well tbh, I've never had one from a chippy before, but man was it tasty. So why the three stars? Well, as I mentioned, I was pretty well oiled by the time I ventured in, so I tend to not trust my judgement as much as i normally would. A high 3 stars just now, with a secondary visit to come! Maybe I won't be drunk this time... pffft!

When we arrived we were suprised to see how posh it was (I'm so glad I wore a dress with my trainers) I felt a little undressed but did not feel looked down at by any of the staff. We arrived and meet up with some fellow yelpers. The drinks began to flow with cocktails being handed out by waiting staff. I was driving so did not get to enjoy the free drink. then came the canopies, they were beautiful to look at and tasted amazing, my favourite was the goats cheese tarts. The staff were fun and friendly, I think they liked us as we were having a laugh with them and they were soon coming straight to our table with the yummy treats. The restraunt is classic and grand looking, with the bar in the middle. The toilets are downstairs and you get to have a nosey into the kitchen on your way past. They had a live brass band playing lots of modern classics like Beyonce which was good fun. I will defo be visiting again to try the full menu and will be leaving the car at home so I can enjoy the cocktails.

Gusto popped up in the old Clydesdale Bank (it felt like overnight but maybe I just never noticed…read moreit getting worked on). Gusto is part of the Living Ventures group (Grill on the Corner, conveniently over the road from Gusto) and serves Italian food. The restaurant is beautiful, quite similar to Grill on the Corner actually with be classy dark timber, gold finishing a and lots of mood lighting. The restaurant is split into sections so you won't feel like you're in a huge space even though it's a generous-sized restaurant. There's a bar right in the middle which is nicely decorated with stained glass and a tasty selection of booze. Of course, it's Monday lunchtime so I'm not drinking. The menu has great non-alcoholic options like coolers for £4. I opted for a mint and strawberry cooler which was absolutely lush: the barman here clearly knows what he's doing. I'm going to have to return for cocktails! Onto the food. I went for baked gnocchi with a side of spinach. The gnocchi had nduja through it - quite a lot actually as it was pretty spicy! Not unbearable though and overall this was a really nice dish, good portion size and perfectly baked. The spinach wasn't quite as good and was quite watery, and some of the leaves needed their stems trimmed. Overall I enjoyed it here a lot. The service is warm and friendly, and Holly who was looking after the area I was seated in was great and really knew her stuff. I do have to say the front of house wasn't quite as good and seemed a little confused and unsure, but the place has just opened so that's no big deal. All up, I was really impressed with my lunch and I'll be back soon.
