So, after a night out, you've been waiting in the taxi queue at Queen Street for about half an hour. You're slightly inebriated, you suddenly get the primal cravings for food, which mean you become very irrational... well fear not! This little take away round the corner will save your mind, feet and pennies (maybe not your stomach though...). Pizza or chips are the safest bet - my personal favourite, chips, cheese and curry sauce, is not always on offer (which I do tend to moan about if and when I'm there), so I mainly settle for chips'n'cheese - mmm.... Anything else, and I'm afraid I can't help you - I've only witnessed the purchase/munch of one kebab (and then I saw how it looked coming back the other way... it was just the copious amounts of alcohol my friend had imbibed, I'm sure, but to be honest, I don't know if it looked better before or after. Seriously). They're not overly expensive, usual takeaway pricing, but the staff can be quite grouchy, (or they seem to be when I've been in anyway), so watch you don't anger them - I've seen more than one bloke thrown out of here. Another of their irrational tendencies is to shut up shop before 2, which is a bit of a pain if you've been out till 3, and you rock up hoping for a sausage supper -error. So, if you do happen to be in the area, do check what time they're planning on closing, otherwise you may be bitterly disappointed (and sausage supper-less).

Pizza Punks - Took an hour to arrive!

The choice was between a more traditional Italian restaurant and Pizza Punks which had a little more of the grit and industrial nature that we associate Glasgow with. The reason for the low review is the pizza took an hour to arrive. We were excited to start the meal but around 30 minutes of waiting it started getting awkward and when we looked around at other tables that were there before us we also noticed them looking around for their food. It took so long some people started leaving and the only reason this is not a 1 star review is staff was very good and kept apologizing. They did knock off 10 percent off the bill which we really appreciated but we would have left if they told us at the beginning the kitchen was very far behind. The pizzas tasted OK, but we were also very very hungry by the time it came. I would have ordered more food but were terrified it would take too long so we left still hungry. Interior is very nice and surprisingly large. They had a DJ in the front room and a professional photographer was also there when we ate shooting the interior. It could have been a more interesting experience if it didn't take so long!

I'd had shrimp scampi pizza before and pizza with escargot many years ago and was surprised at how well seafood and pizza go together. The Frutti di Mare pizza from Almafi's was no exception. With calamari, mussels and king prawns topping a tomato sauce, mozzarella and Parmesan base, there was plenty of flavor. I happily devoured most of the pizza and was glad my hubby had filled up on onion rings so I didn't have to share more than a couple of slices. Loved the pizza so much, I made sure it was also the last thing I ate before departing Glasgow to fly back to Dublin. First pizza the dough was more puffy, which I preferred. The second one was a flatter dough but still delicious. This was likely because the pizza oven wasn't as hot or the dough had rested differently - the first one was in the evening and the second flatter one was just as they opened at 11:30am. Note that their signage refers to opening at noon, but their website and Google say 11:30.

So maybe it was ill advised that this was the exact time I chose to drag my other half to Sarti but I think I got away with it. The staff didn't seem to mind at all that we'd showed up so late and without a reservation. We were welcomed, seated and our drinks orders were taken (I was gently guided away from an inferior bottle of wine to a nicer one for the same price, which is always a nice touch). I ordered a mixed wild mushroom pizza while my partner went for the spaghetti bolognese and everything was absolutely delicious, fresh and perfectly prepared. I love a good mushroom pizza and this is one of the better ones I've tried in Glasgow. We briefly considered dessert but, being the last people in the restaurant this time, decided it would be better to save it for a time when we were more organised. We paid the bill and were invited to a small glass of limoncello with the staff before we left. My partner normally hates the stuff (although he likes lemons) but actually enjoyed this one, so there's another minor victory. I've visited Sarti before but with a large group and found everything to be great on that occasion too but it was quite a long time ago. It's good to know that they're still doing everything right. We'll be back soon and hopefully at a more reasonable time.

When we arrived we were suprised to see how posh it was (I'm so glad I wore a dress with my trainers) I felt a little undressed but did not feel looked down at by any of the staff. We arrived and meet up with some fellow yelpers. The drinks began to flow with cocktails being handed out by waiting staff. I was driving so did not get to enjoy the free drink. then came the canopies, they were beautiful to look at and tasted amazing, my favourite was the goats cheese tarts. The staff were fun and friendly, I think they liked us as we were having a laugh with them and they were soon coming straight to our table with the yummy treats. The restraunt is classic and grand looking, with the bar in the middle. The toilets are downstairs and you get to have a nosey into the kitchen on your way past. They had a live brass band playing lots of modern classics like Beyonce which was good fun. I will defo be visiting again to try the full menu and will be leaving the car at home so I can enjoy the cocktails.

Gusto is part of the Living Ventures group (Grill on the Corner, conveniently over the road from Gusto) and serves Italian food. The restaurant is beautiful, quite similar to Grill on the Corner actually with be classy dark timber, gold finishing a and lots of mood lighting. The restaurant is split into sections so you won't feel like you're in a huge space even though it's a generous-sized restaurant. There's a bar right in the middle which is nicely decorated with stained glass and a tasty selection of booze. Of course, it's Monday lunchtime so I'm not drinking. The menu has great non-alcoholic options like coolers for £4. I opted for a mint and strawberry cooler which was absolutely lush: the barman here clearly knows what he's doing. I'm going to have to return for cocktails! Onto the food. I went for baked gnocchi with a side of spinach. The gnocchi had nduja through it - quite a lot actually as it was pretty spicy! Not unbearable though and overall this was a really nice dish, good portion size and perfectly baked. The spinach wasn't quite as good and was quite watery, and some of the leaves needed their stems trimmed. Overall I enjoyed it here a lot. The service is warm and friendly, and Holly who was looking after the area I was seated in was great and really knew her stuff. I do have to say the front of house wasn't quite as good and seemed a little confused and unsure, but the place has just opened so that's no big deal. All up, I was really impressed with my lunch and I'll be back soon.
