Ignore the low ratings given by others on this app. This is an excellent restaurant. We decided to eat here based on our taxi driver's recommendation. After reading the reviews here, we almost decided against going. Luckily, another person in our party decided to check the reviews on Google and saw that they were much higher than those here. Upon arrival, we found a restaurant with a charming and sophisticated ambiance. The food was delectable (I had the lasagna and my wife had the cabonara, both delicious) and the bar drinks fabulous (try the Old Fashion, absolutely one of the bests I've ever had. The service was pathetic and the server went out her way to be rude I asked her for bread and for whatever reason she couldn't compute and made a big deal about the question to where I said don't bother, the food made me feel ill and the price wasn't too great either stay clear stay back this place is trash read more

Went with a group of 8. It was crowded but the orders were taken promptly. However, when food started arriving there were multiple mistakes: they failed to record my order so I wasn't brought any food. The sides for two of our group were forgotten. When they realized that they had forgotten my order they told everyone else to go ahead without me and said I would be served soon. Fifteen minutes later I was finally served, but they said that they weren't able to give me what I ordered and just brought a basic pasta dish!! The sides for the other two never showed up. They didn't come to tell me my fish was not available and offer something else. Just gave a plate of pasta and sauce. They never offered something extra to make up for the problem - not even a free dessert. I was charged the full price of the dish that never came. I would never go back. read more

For those of you who don't know Amarone is actually part of the DiMaggio group with sister venues in Edinburgh and Aberdeen . Located on Nelson Mandella Square slap bang in the middle of Glasgow city centre it is the ideal location for saturday shoppers. The vibe is contemporary and dark but it worked. The restaurant is in the basement of the building so it is very dark with just a few small windows, but they play up to this by having lots of dramatic mood lighting and dark furniture. A few side notes was that the restaurant was beyond hot and I thought I was going to pass out! Plus it was quite nosey. With it being a lovely evening on Saturday they had a seated area set up outside where we sat and had a cocktails before dinner which was a great way to start the evening. We dealt with quite a few members of staff over the course of the evening all of which were great. They were friendly and helpful. The main waiter who looked after us had me smiling all evening, he was so funny and engaging. The menu is quite big and loaded full of pasta and pizza dishes with a large selection of meat and fish dishes to choose from. To start with I chose the Carpaccio Con Rucola - Beef carpaccio with rocket and parmesan served with olive oil and lemon. The serving was generous with lots of very finely shaved beef carpaccio and a heap of well dressed rocket leaves. The beef was tender and tasty and went well with the peppery rocket. With our starters we also had a few Focaccia Rosemarino which was delicious. It was crispy in places and doughy in others which is just the way I like it. I could easily have scoff the entire basket myself. For my main I picked the Meluzzo Con Salsa Verde which is roasted fillet of cod with a mixed Italian herb and garlic salsa on a bed of basil and olive oil mash with a white wine and cream sauce. My favourite part of the dish was the mash which was so good, it was loaded with basil gaving it a gorgeous pesto taste. The cod was light and flaky, this went perfectly with the basil mash which for me was the star of the dish not the fish. For dessert I have to be honest none of the desserts especially appealed to me. I would normally have the tirimisu in an Italian restaurant but I have vowed to only eat it now at Don Costanzos because it is the best in the city and everything else only leaves me disappointed. In the end I ordered the Tortino di Formaggio a creamy mascarpone honey and ginger cheesecake on a crushed gingernut biscuit base. It was okay but I wasn't crazy about it - the flavours were there but incredibly subtle. I would describe it more as a vanilla cheesecake with hints of ginger and I couldn't really taste the honey at all. Having said that it was nice enough it just didn't float my boat. I would say that it no longer sits in my 'Favourite All Time Meals' category but it was a lovely meal and I would happily go back. read more

We stopped in here while in Glasgow and sat on the patio. I was dissapointed by the length of time it took to recieve our food it seemed that we had been forgotten about. When we did get it about an hour later (one pizza and one pasta dish) it was average at best for Italian. Looking back wish we would have tried somewhere else. The waitress was friendly and the bar drinks good but that was all. I would not reccommend to my friends nor family. read more

I'm thrilled to have discovered a reliably good Italian restaurant in central Glasgow that isn't of the break-the-bank variety, yet looks classy and serves delicious food. Its name is Amarone; once visited, never forgotten. Very central and easy to locate, being on the corner of Glasgow's Buchanan Street and Nelson Mandela Place, Amarone is an elegant basement dining room with high level stained glass windows, attractive decor and a choice of tables and chairs, or booth seating. I love the cosiness of booth seating, so we opted for that on our first visit. Arriving at 5pm we expected to have no problem getting a seat, especially as the place was virtually empty. A member of staff greeted us and asked if we had made a reservation, which we had not, and he then took a moment to study the computer and allocate us a seat. Couldn't resist a sly chuckle at this. However within 20 minutes I could see why it had taken a moment to allocate us a seat - the place was absolutely heaving with diners, most of whom had obviously booked, so I guess we timed it just right and got lucky. Silly me! We chose starters and a pizza from the early bird menu and were all very pleased with the quality and the quantity that came. It was an excellent deal compared to the a la carte menu which in itself seems quite reasonable given the smart yet informal surroundings. My avocado salad starter was well presented with a very tasty dressing, and the pizza was one of the best I have eaten. All this was washed down with a decent bottle of the house white which didn't disappoint. Service was quick, efficient and friendly, and all of our party were impressed with the food and the ambience. Despite being an extremely busy early evening, we never felt rushed and the staff were very warm and welcoming. Not everyone had room for dessert, but what came to our table looked delicious. I would heartily recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys Italian cuisine and it's definitely worth making a reservation to avoid disappointment, even at luchtimes and early evening. read more

Went for dinner yesterday, the restaurant is lovely, very relax atmosphere, a little bit dark for my. We had the £13.95 menu which consists on 2 courses ( or £16.95 for three courses) to start we had the mussels, ithe were vey nice, although is not rocket science to cook a nice mussels, the portion was tinny!! And I mean 10 mussels!!!! I was kind of shock!! Moving into mains, we had a pizza and the bistecca. The pizza was amazing, I have to say. One of the nicest pizzas ever. The bistecca... Well where do I start... You need to pay an extra £5 on to of the 13.95, the menu reads: 10oz... I don't think so!!! Very small, although split in 2 so it looks bigger... Very disappointed, the food was good, but it's extremely overpriced!!! I won't be back, I can cook myself big potions of mussels in my home!!! read more

Part of the DiMaggio chain of Italian restaurants Amarone is focussed more with mature dining, as a pose to the family friendly sister restaurants of DiMaggios. The interior is warm, elegant and welcoming; lots of wood and autumn colour scheme give the place an elegant feel amongst the busy hustle bustle atmosphere of Buchanan Street. The menu maintains this serious and elegant note, and dishes are filled with familiar Italian ingredients. There is also a set menu which is pretty reasonable. Amarone is trying to be a good Italian restaurant, a cut above DiMaggios if you like and it is good to see there is a market for fine food but I do sympathise with Daniel C's comment and I would recommend the set menu but also the tiramisu if you get the chance. read more

Excellent Italian food in the city centre. Came here with a friend and I had the Antipasto Misto and pumpkin ravioli - both were sublime and strongly recommend. Although one comment to do with the antipasti was that the aubergine slice could have been grilled for a touch longer. Couldn't disagree more with krs3,Glasgow, (sorry). We thought it was absolutly 1st class. We went on Friday 5th June 2009,(we got a booking in the afternoon whilst having a wine there alfresco, even though they were really busy), and thought it was absolutely superb. Couldn't fault the food or service in any way. Did not feel under any pressure to order any number of courses or bottled water. The waitress did ask if we wanted water with the meal,(as they should do!), and we specifically asked for the bottled water(£3.25 for big bottle is not expensive for a good restaurant), but we could have had tap water if we wanted. We had a mozarella and tomato salad and a scallops and salad staters, and for mains we had a lamb and a pasta dish.We had 2 bottles of Rose, 2 liqueurs and 1 coffee - total price £82. Excellent food, service and price. Would highly recommend. read more

Tomato sauce was mediocre. A meatball had an unidentifiable hard bit that I'm lucky didn't break a tooth. Ambience is okay. Service is slow.

Aiming for the posher side of Italian dinning the Amarone is nicely laid out with good service and a varied menu. First impressions are very good but I've always been a little disappointed eating here, for what you pay the food is okay but not excellant and there are sligt niggles like the pressure to buy bottled water for the table and ordering two courses which makes me feel like I'm being fleeced for my money. Not a bad restaurant, but I feel like I'm being processed rather than served when I go there. read more

With a cinema catch up arranged, I was looking for somewhere to eat with a friend. Managed to get a good deal on 5pm, 2 courses for £13. Which wasn't too shabby. When we arrived we got the special 5pm menu and there was loads to choose from. I opted for the brushetta and a tomato pasta with chicken, garlic and mushrooms. My friend ordered the mozzarella balls and another pasta dish. Both starters arrived quickly and were great portions for the money, I would have liked a bit more of the garlic and balsamic taste to have came through in my starter but it was still tasty. The main courses came, god only knows how I was going to eat it as I was so full!, the portions yet again were massive and I was unable to finish mine. I wish I had asked for a doggy bag as I could have enjoyed it later on. The dishes were well seasoned and packed full of flavour. Make sure you go when you are starving! read more

Just had a great lunch in Amarone. The service was so friendly and welcoming - I have a gluten intolerance and the waitress couldn't do enough to advise me - they even have a specially printed menu with gluten free dishes! Unheard of!! The food was gorgeous, we dined from the pre-theatre menu (2 courses £13.95) and there was a great selection. We weren't at all rushed, even though the restaurant was busy. Great atmosphere, can't wait to return, and could not reccomend highly enough. A must if you're in Glasgow. read more

Nice relaxed atmosphere, good service, good food, comprehensive wine list and well priced

This has been one of my favourite restaurants, if not my favourite, for the 8 or more years. I am slightly biased when it comes to Italian food as it is generally my favourite. This restaurant is set in the city centre right next to the smaller entrance to Buchanan St underground station. You walk down stairs to a waiting area (where you don't wait for long unless it is extremely busy!) to be greeted by warm smiling faces! The atmosphere is relaxed enough that you could talk about your new break through in time travel if you wished! The staff are very friendly, helpful and attentive and even if they are having a bad day never look like it! The food comes in large portions and just taste fantastic. Now it may be that times are hard and that you have to pay more for just about everything these days. Also there will be those of you who firmly believe Italian food is basically the same passata with a different shaped pasta and meat through it that it is unjustly overpriced. However, I have noticed the price has risen to acceptable amounts over the years and in line with inflation (either that or the fact that I am no longer a student also helps). I have worked my way round the menu in this place and I always find reason to return. I would highly recommend a visit to this place if you have not already done so! read more

We chose the pre-theatre menu which offers 3 courses for £15.95. It was good to have a menu not filled with the typical pasta dishes that have me avoid Italian restaurants. Nothing was adventurous but all the dishes on offer sounded equally as delicious. I had a bowl of chunky minestrone soup which was full of fresh vegetables and had a nice home made tesxture and flavour. The main course was a less than appetising looking chicken Risotto, however, the added touch of wild mushrooms and a serving of Parmesan straight off the block made up for it. I've not got a very sweet tooth so tend to avoid puddings because, on pre-theatre menus they are usually a big disappointment. The chocolate liquer sponge biscuits were a bit stodgy for my liking but they had a relatively good flavour and made a pleasant end to the menu. The service was brisk and efficient but there was something about the waiting style which left us feeling a bit disconnected from the vibe of Amarone. Maybe it was a smile! read more

It is more spicy than usually Italian food is supposed to be but portions are well served. Was surprised to find this little restaurant tucked away in a vintage building. Upon walking in I suspected that maybe the restaurant was going to be super empty but once I turned the corner and went down the stairs I found it to be a relatively busy spot full of fragrant pasta dishes and more. When I hit the bottom of the stairs there's was bad miscommunication from the host which delayed us from having a seat which really threw us off since others started to be sat before me. But I brushed it off and was seated moments later. We arrived just in time for the lunch menu. Which was 2 courses for £14.95 or 3 courses for £17.95. They had lots to choose from so I was pleased! I ended up ordering the minestrone soup which was SO GOOD! And also a vegetarian pasta dish with squash, spinach, and zucchini. My fiancé ordered a chicken and haggis dish and the started was a focaccia bread with onions and cheese that he devoured. The only thing that put me off was the bad lighting. The fluorescent lights really made me scrutinize every single book of the plates and glasses before me. I had ordered water and someone brought a DIRTY glass of water to the table that still had someone else's dirty lipstick on it. It was off putting and it made me enjoy the meal less. Other than that, the food is great and would come back of the cleanliness of this place was taken a bit more serious. read more
