I take my pants into to have the loose hem replaced or a torn pocket fixed and the work is done promptly and professionally. I don't take my custom suits or shirts here, and I don't take my wife's expensive dresses, sweaters or blouses. But for $2.29 for most products that you wouldn't be heartbroken if something was damaged, I'm gonna take it here. The place is busy, people in and out all day during the week. I visit ZIPS Cleaners at least once a month and always bring in a large load of dry cleaning for my scrubs. Unfortunately, I have lost two pairs of pants in the last six months, and no one has been able to explain where they went. Today, when I dropped off my cleaning, they were having issues with their credit card machine. I had to tap my card three times before it finally worked. However, when I got home and checked my account, I noticed that they charged me twice. I called to inform them of the mistake, and now I have to wait three days for a credit. It's frustrating! The customer service at this Rockville Pike locations is TOPS!. Like the Traders Joes in Rockville's Federal Plaza, this Zips dry cleaners is one of the friendliest places I've been to. As I was turning the corner to enter the store, one of the employees was hurrying to catch a customer who had left something important of hers in the store. This is par for the course. Picked up dry cleaning got home to put away and found this BRAND NEW shirt that was over $100, worn 1 time somehow has bleach damage. Took it back in today, the manager... some lady said it's bleach and it's impossible that it happened here because they don't use bleach... she instead said "maybe you took it home and set on the table and there was bleach there and it got stained." I don't know who gives this place more than one star, especially with comments like, "my clothes are always perfect". Perhaps these folks have some eyesight deficiency. In 5 years of coming to this location, it has only gone from bad to worse. And the strange part? Every problem I've had here has always been my fault.100% of them. ZIPS has never done a single thing wrong. When all my clothes came back covered in mold, ZIPS told me isn't there fault (even through you can see the water damage coming through the ceiling). Apparently it was me who had been wearing a number of shirts and sweaters covered in mold on a regular basis. Or how about the repeat incidents of not having my clothes prepared on time. The name literally implies speed, yet they can't even fulfill their own standard. "Sorry, thanks for your money" is what you're left with. Or how about damaged clothes...you'd be surprised how often you wear damaged clothing, according to ZIPS. I get stuff back all the time that says I turned it in damaged. Yet when I ask what part of it is damaged, they tell me they don't know. Even more surprising, I can take the same article back a week later and it's processed with no issue. What's with the inconsistency? Is it perhaps that ZIPS is just playing CYA, labeling anything it wants as turned in damaged to avoid doing a halfway-decent job (i.e. fraud)? This past week an employee tried to tell me that the crease in my shirt collar where it folds over was "damage" and wanted me to sign for it. Apparently his team mates couldn't figure it that one out, because of the five shirts I turned in, he only picked out the one as damaged....and yet they all came back with "turned in damaged" tags. And this is a place that claims to specialize in garment care. What ZIPS specializes in is taking your money. On the occasion something has actually come back damaged, guess how many times ZIPS took responsibility? That's right...zero. Someone should really examine this company, for they have determined a method of achieving 100% success in their industry. Not 95%, not 99%, but 100%...they have never been at fault. Although I am not a frequent customer here, I am VERY unsatisfied with the service I received. I came to drop off a pair of white pants to get washed, and I got them back stained. When I went to pick them up, I was not notified of the stain, however they did leave a tag on the hanger that they got stained. That's unacceptable! I immediately went back to the store, and demanded to speak to the manager. I never spoke to her because she was "busy" but when I left the pants so that he/she could tell me what happened, I overheard an employee talking in Spanish that one employee had spilled wine on my pants????? I was beyond confused. They went ahead and took care of the stain, but did it without asking for permission... something that they should've done from the beginning. I wouldn't recommend this place. If I could give this place no stars I would. Where to start... this place is by far the WORST business I have ever come across. It is so poorly run by the store manager "Monica". She hides and claims not be in when she really is. I live close by and have popped in unexpectedly, so I know this for a fact. The shift supervisor "Rodrigo" is the most unkind disgusting human being I have ever dealt with in my life. I have been a customer of zips for about 15 years and my family for even longer. My issue with this location started a couple of months ago. I dropped off (as I always do) my usual dry cleaning and several new pants to get hemmed. As always the pants were pressed with creases. At pick up, I received them back and there was a clear distinction as to where the pressing was done (picture attached) on all 7 pairs of pants I was picking up. There was a line and two shades on each side. Also, the tags were completely burned. Needless to say, completely unacceptable. I immediately asked for a manager and this Rodrigo individual came to speak to me. He had attitude and denied there was anything wrong. He literally told me "I don't see anything wrong with these pants. There is nothing here, what are you talking about?" When I realized I was talking to a wall, I showed him the tags and that's when his tone changed. He even told me "This is burnt. This is not right and honestly someone will lose their job for this". I asked to speak to the store manager and was told she would be in at 3pm. I went back at 3pm to speak to Monica. This story goes on and on. An agreement/solution was finally reached or so I thought. Fast forward to the end of December when I dropped off some clothes without issue. 10 mins later, I am home and I see ZIPS is calling me. It was Rodrigo and he asked me if I was sure I wanted to leave my clothes there. When I told him I already paid and my clothing is already there, he replied "it is such a busy season, we might lose track of your pants or it is possible they may get damaged again". I was very upset and demanded an explaination for the threat. He replied "if you don't like it, you can take your clothes somewhere else". There's much more to this but it is such a long story. Bottom line: I have yet to go public with my entire story. I have yet to call corporate to share with them my story. I will go to corporate before I share with my 40k followers on social media and the press, the awful experience and suffering I endured at the hands of these two individuals. I want to afford corporate the opportunity to make it right first. These two individuals are not an accurate reflection of the company. read more

They insinuate that I'm responsible for the loss. What garbage. My next step is small claims court in Montgomery County if the owner does not return my numerous telephone calls. I have been using this facility for a long time and never had any issues. This time I dropped off some shirts and pants for cleaning and when I picked them up ,I noticed my white shirt cuffs were not cleaned at all . I showed it to the cashier she said it's not cleanable but you can have it laundry one more time but it's going to cost me . I paid again and they put yellow tape on the dirty spot. When I received the shirt back it was cleaned . I don't understand how they cleaned second time when I paid and without paying it was not possible to take the stains off. I asked if I could get one day early - Friday instead of Saturday. I was told there would be a rush fee of five dollars. I decided that 15 dollars was way too much for this minor repair. They did not untie the wrap portion of my dress, and it got ripped clean off. I called in about the rip, and I was told by, clearly annoyed, the lady that I would have to come into the store to speak with the manager. I also bring comforters and home items here to be dry cleaned and they do a fantastic job. I guess it depends on what time of day you arrive here if long lines are an issue. Zips is my go to dry cleaners, been coming here for 20 years. Nothing glamorous but very affordable when compared to other dry cleaners, only $2.29 per garment. I have had some hit or misses over the years, but nothing egregious. I have not been so lucky with the alterations. I have tried them 3 times over the years and have never had a positive experience, I won't use them again. I take my more valuable or larger clothing to another cleaners, but for day to day, Zips does the job. The store has entrances/stations in both the front and the back. There used to be cameras/tvs so you could see which line was moving faster and jump to the other side of the store if needed, but those cameras have been off lately. Little things about the store/customer service seem to be changing, I'm not sure it is for the better. I'll have to wait and see and can update accordingly. read more

Zips Rockville somehow managed to put two significant holes near the left cuff of my navy sport coat (see photo gallery). When I returned to the store, the general manager (Monica) tried to blame the holes on moths. I live on the 15th floor of an apartment building and nothing else in my closet had holes. Monica then pulled surveillance video and claimed it clearly showed me dropping off the sport coat with the holes already present. I returned to the store and reviewed the video. She'd lied. You couldn't see anything. I took my jacket to a Rockville tailor who miraculously managed to re-line the jacket's cuff and make the damage unnoticeable. For three weeks, I made countless phone calls to try and get Zips to reimburse me for the $45 tailoring cost (mostly out of principle). I consider myself a very level headed person, but it took shouting and threats to get Monica to take action. I wish Google allowed negative scores because 1 star is too kind. This place may be cheap, but their level of customer care is non-existent. Avoid at all costs! And please know, if Zips damages your clothing, you might be able to get some sort of reimbursement, but prepare to fight them tooth and nail. read more

Do not take your clothes here. This is the 3rd time that I've used this cleaners and my clothes come out more wrinkled than they are when i drop them off. In addition on my last visits they damaged my tie and argued with me that it wasn't damaged. It was a brand new tie when I dropped it off and now it looks like I pulled it out of the bottom of a hamper after 30 years. The "manager" who lacked any type of customer service skills told me that it was my opinion that the tie was damaged. Do not bring your clothes here unless you want your clothes damaged! It's truly unfortunate that I'm writing such a negative review...and it's even more unfortunate that I'm writing it so late. I've been foolish to overlook the problems with this dry cleaning shop and hopefully my review will steer other yelpers away from this store. I have been using this store's dry cleaning service for years.....because I was stingy and wanted to pay the absolute bottom $ for dry cleaning. At $1.99 + tax for any garment (about $1 and some change for dress shirts), this place offers the cheapest dry cleaning service in the rockville area. However, you get what you pay for. Everything comes with a "price".... Several years ago, I noticed a couple of holes in my cashmere sweater. I didn't think much of it b/c I thought it was my fault. However, slowly over time, I noticed more and more holes in my others sweaters and while the locations were different, I would consistently find 2 holes spaced about an inch apart. HMMm.... The problems compounded with the appearance of broken/shattered buttons on my shirts and parts of my garments showed bleached spots. I know for a fact that this was not my doing b/c I never use bleach to wash my clothing at home. In sum.....for saving a few $/garment, I ended up with thousands of $ worth of damages in clothing. As per Zips Dry Cleaner's policy, you are unable to file for 99% of damages to your garments EVEN IF it's THEIR fault (and if you somehow miraculously get them to compensate you it won't be more than $35/garment). In sum, coming here is the equivalent of pouring cheap grade gasoline into a Mercedes S class. You may save a bit up front but you're going to pay big time down the road. From this point onwards, it's "zip no 'mo" for me. For those who want to become Avant garde fashion icons with natural looking holes and rips all over their garments, you don't have to look elsewhere. If this is not your wish, avoid this place like SARS. Caveat emptor! read more

Three identically damaged shirts in three months!!! THREE STRIKES AND YOU'RE OUT ZIPS! They just lost an 8 year customer in me. I've been going to them since probably 2004 and I had never had any issues until recently. The prices were good, clothes came back clean, and turnaround time was quick. I moved away for a year and came back to ZIPs in the beginning of the year - things have changed. Late delivery, long lines, not so friendly staff... that's ok. But ruining customers clothes and denying any responsibility - they should be shut down. The first one was a Bloomingdale's dress shirt. The guy brought it out and said he couldn't clean it because of the tear on the elbow (just like MM said in his post). I was shocked since the shirt was only a month old and asked how they tore it, but he claimed I brought it in that way, and he was sure they didn't do it. We went back and forth and he smiled and said "well we're sure we didn't do it, sorry". It wasn't a tear from wear, it was as if a sharp razor or something tore it... two sharp tears right next to each other. A few weeks later I got one of my custom tailored shirt back. When I went to put it on, I found the seam was completely mangled and detached from the shirt. I thought for a second, maybe my custom made shirt was not as high quality as I thought. I didn't think it was ZIPs, and gave them the benefit of the doubt. I have a pic of this in the gallery. Yesterday was the final straw. He brought out my stack of clothes with another Bloomingdale's shirt on top uncleaned. Smugly he told me "we couldn't clean this shirt because of this tear on the elbow". I was beside myself and just asked him "just like the last shirt - in the same exact place... AND a hole in the front too??!!" The hole in the front he didn't even know was there until I pointed it out. He said yes, they couldn't wash it because it would make the tear bigger.. but certainly he was sure they didn't do it. Same type of tear on the elbow that I guess "I" must have done again some how and not known. I am 100% ok with a mistake or two, and even appreciate an apology. But I am 110% NOT ok when they look me right in my face and tell me I brought my own clothes in there with holes in them. Not only is the service bad, but the people are unethical. Yelpers MM on 1/12, Amulya on 2/22, Armine on 3/12, and now me on three different occasions have gotten our clothes back holes in them and we were to blame for it. Before I posted this review, I wanted to go back and talk to the manager about it so they had a chance to resolve it. Her run around answers made it worse. Did I put the shirt in my trunk? Did I happen to put my elbow in juice or something? Am I sure I didn't bring them in there like that. I told her it's not ME, it's something THEY are doing - when I hand them a GOOD shirt and I get them back with HOLES in them three different times, it's not ME. She asked if I wanted to see the equipment in the back. I told her... "Listen, I'm a customer who has come here for eight years. Three of my shirts are damaged and I am very certain it's something your team is doing. I am here to give you an opportunity to fix this situation. Can you do something?". She said "No, sorry.". I suppose it's partially my fault for taking clothes I actually care about to a discount dry cleaner in the first place. Nevertheless, never again. read more

I'm frustrated with this location. I have used them a few times for formal wear, dry clean only and my quilt that needs commercial wash and dry machines. I have never had a problem until picking up my quilt this week. There were two extremely obvious black spots on the edges that were conveniently folded into the interior section, so I didn't notice them until I got home and put the quilt on my bed. My quilt it off white, it would be VERY hard to miss while folding this up. It looks like marks from the wheels of a shopping cart or conveyer belt and I watched them put my quilt in a big wheeled basket when I dropped it off. Why not just tell me they needed to re-clean it or even more time? Or apologize for the stains atleast, not just pretend it's not there? I let it soak for 2 days and it seems they are coming out. But I shouldn't have to have discovered and dealt with it after paying for cleaning services. read more

I came back two days later and my jeans were pink with green leopard spots. Pink and green? I asked to see the manager and told them what had happened. I was told the manager was not there and I would have to come back. After returning three times, I was told that this was the color of the jeans were when I brought them in. Seriously? I was a loyal customer, who brought in cleaning every week, and they couldn't honor a mistake of theirs ? I'll probably just come here to dry clean something more frequent than suits and less frequent than shirts (aka pants). Most places charge $4 or more for pants, but for $1.99 any garment, I guess it deserves some of my business. I brought one shirt and they shrank it a little bit. I'll stick with my other dry cleaners for their $1.50 shirts. Recommend parking in the back parking lot, since the front parking lot (the one next to Rockville Pike) is difficult to get in and out of (unless you're headed South on 355) CASH ONLY. Now, I never thought of myself as having a ton of clothes...but recently it's been brought to my attention that I have a TON of clothes. Case in point - upon moving into our new home, I used the office bedroom closet to store my winter clothes. 3 days later, the metal bar holding up my clothes in that closet - BROKE. METAL BAR...BROKE. Yes, I'm still stunned over this. What does this have to do with Zips? Well, I admit, I sort of use Zips as a spare closet. Or at least, I did when I was living in the small condo with only 1 real closet. No no - this is a legit review. Stick with me here guys... For the low low price of $1.99 per garment, at the end of the season, I can bring all my clothes here, get them marvelously dry cleaned...then STORED for 6 months. Yes, they will hold your clothes for 6 months before they donate it to the Salvation Army or whatever. But it works out great, because around month 5, the weather is going to change anyways, and you'll be reminded of your lovely cashmere sweaters, and you'll be here to pick up before the deadline (or if you're super neurotic, set an alarm on your google calendar). Yes, I'm sure that the managers/owners of Zips are reading this review right now and thinking "oh, we know this Fenny chick. She single handedly takes up an entire hanging machine. We should refuse her service now that we know her game!" but now that I have a house with a billion closets, hopefully I won't need to use Zips as my spare closet anymore. Well, unless more metal bars break. Seriously, how heavy can angora be anyways?!?! Oh yes, and the dry cleaning is pretty darned decent too! I took my shirt into the store, and the cashier said she'd talk to the manager. She went back and returned a minute later to tell me she had spoken to the manager and was told there was nothing they were going to do. The manager herself didn't even bother to come speak with me.
