Wow...picked up my $250 comforter today and am horrified with what they did...it's completely ruined. Asked for it to be cleaned and to have a very small hole stitched closed. There are small ~1/4 inch seams across the whole comforter, one of which was ripped open (but the hole was only the size of the seam). When I dropped it off, the cashier asked for the seamstress, who assured me that the hole needed a simple hand-stitch. It looks like they stuffed it into a sewing machine instead, and sewed a giant, crooked, raised stitch across about 3 inches. I don't know if they ripped the hole further and tried to then sew it shut or just had no idea what they were doing. Either way, I wish I would have paid the $50 to have it done properly at a small, family-owned dry cleaner. read more

You do get what you pay for. It's basically the Mcdonalds of the Dry cleaning industry. If you need a quick cheap fix, this is your place. I brought in 4 garments to be dry cleaned and total price was maybe $7, and they were ready the following day . Now my clothes didn't have any "special" stains, and weren't Egyptian Virgin Purified Wool, just regular department store clothes that I had stunk up from previous wear, so in my opinion ZIPS did their job, they cleaned my clothes and didn't lose them. What else could I expect for $7. This is not the place for your fancy $800 Hugo Boss Cashmere sweater, or if you are looking for a tailor. p.s. Been here before and put up with long lines since prices are low. NO MORE. Took in five shirts for laundry. When I returned one shirt had black/purple marks on collar. It did not have those marks when I brought it in. They offered a refund on the roughly $1.75 cleaning fee. BUT they ruined a $50 shirt. When I complained they said they had not washed it. I told they they had somehow damaged it with their marking pens. DO NOT be tempted by their low prices! It would take me over a hundred shirt cleaning savings to make up for the loss of my $50 shirt. "Zips Cleaners" in Annapolis on West Street has been my cleaners for years now, but recently, I've been compelled to write a review about them. Firstly, they've always done an excellent job of cleaning, but it seems that in the last two years, the quality has escalated even higher. The check-in and pick-up is flawless and smooth. When I first started using Zips years ago, you had to use cash. Eventually, they converted to a credit/debit card payment which made life even more accessible. For a while, I used a competitor in Edgewater, Busy Bee, that also did an excellent job. Eventually, Busy Bee began to creep it's prices upwards to become approximately double the Zips price. One Saturday, while in line at Zips I recognized a few other customers I met at Busy Bee. It did not take long listening to comments to realize that most had come back to Zips because the price at Busy Bee was excessively high. Yep, Busy Bee, like Zips, does an excellent job even offering remote drop-off and Sunday hours, but why pay $5 for a gallon of gas when the equivalent station down the street has the same fuel for $2.50 /gallon. So, why $4 for dry cleaning when Zip only requires $2.29 for the same garment; almost double. Both offer email notification when garments are ready, mending and alterations, as well as large-item cleaning like comforters, but again, twice the price is no deal for driving an extra mile or two to Zips. Finally, there are great people at Zips. Kyle, one of the managers, sees me walking with a cane. Kyle, even if he does not wait on me during pick-up, never fails to ask me or any other disabled customer if they need help getting their garments to their vehicle. These are the little things that make Zips a superior customer service experience. Then there's the owner, Jolene. I met her at the counter one day and thought she was just another worker. I learned later that she was the owner. She always treated me great, and we've had fabulous conversations over the years. After learning she was the owner, I kidded her telling her that she should be sitting back in a fancy office letting the workers do all the hard work. She objected in a friendly manner saying that "...we are a team all working to get the customer in and out with excellent service and a great product." She never told me so, but I was pleasantly surprised to learn her company supports several youth sports teams. She even offers deeply discounted cleaning for coats donated at my church, CCF, to be given to the needy at Central Mission in DC. A lengthy review, but it's been coming for a while. I felt the need to tell about a great business especially in today's marketplace where so many don't care what the customer thinks. We had been regular customers at the Zips on West St in Annapolis for a couple of years -- I agree with previous reviews, it doesn't get much better than a couple of bucks for basic dry-cleaning. I had even brought a few simple repairs to their tailors and was pleased with the quality, value, and speed. Last spring, we brought our wool comforter in for dry-cleaning. When we picked it up, it was neatly folded in a plastic garment bag, so we just put it into storage for the summer. When we opened it this fall, it was obvious that the comforter had been wet-cleaned, as opposed to dry-cleaned, resulting in significant shrinking and making our king-sized comforter unusable in its duvet/on our king-sized bed. We were very disappointed, especially because we were certain that we had requested and paid for dry-cleaning, given the fact that it was a wool-filled comforter. We called the manager on duty, who suggested that we bring the comforter in to be looked at. She held onto the comforter for a couple of days to show it to the owner. We could have not have asked for a better response from the owner -- not only did she reimburse us the cost of cleaning, but she reimbursed us the cost of replacing our comforter! It had been so disappointing to think that we might not be able to use Zips based on our experience with the comforter. Fortunately, the owner completely made up for the disappointment and their error. We will happily continue to use Zips for all our basic dry-cleaning and alternation needs. They readily admitted the mistake and completely restored our confidence in their services. Can't ask for better customer service. read more

So I get a call last week from Julie, the owner of Annapolis Zips. She explained how important my business was to them and also how sorry she was that my previous visit wasn't up to their standard level. She assured me that all I had to do was walk in and ask for the manager, Kara to repair my pants for free. Later that day, I stopped by and Kara took care of me right away. She took my pants and gave me a receipt and told me it would be a couple of days to repair the zipper. Two days later, my pants were fixed and I was very happy with how it all turned out. This was my last visit there after a year and many damaged shirts later. I am throwing in the towel.... the money you save there you will spend buying new clothes. Not for white shirts thats for sure .... the presses are dirty & leave stains that dont come out. Not crazy about desk staff no personality at all. They seem easily irratated when challenged with a problem. My recommendation is find a neighborhood dry cleaner that is customer friendly and that may charges a little more and that takes pride in what they do! read more

Zipps used to be the most affordable alterations place, and now they are the most expensive. Now retired, money is much tighter. I recently took 1 pair of yoga pants that cost $12.95 to be hemmed and was told the price to hem them would be $15, more than the pants themselves. The exercise top cost $8.95, and hemming it cost $13. I bought a gown to wear out ballroom dancing for $34.95, and they quoted $45 to hem it. When I asked what was up with the prices, I was told that they had increased all the prices to remain competitive with their competition. When one alteration costs more than the whole garment, it is time to shop for another tailor. I have been getting my clothes altered here for many years. In the beginning, Anna would only put one pin in the front and one in the back of a dress. The result was the backs of all my dresses were too short, and the sides dragged the floor. When I asked if she could do something a specific way, she always said "Yes," because she didn't understand English, and answered "yes" to everything. Working as a teacher, the prices at Zipps were affordable. With time, the sewing improved, as Anna's comprehension of English also got better. She even re-hemmed some of my dresses, when I showed her how bad they were. She now puts in more pins, because she doesn't want to re-hem everything. I like Anna, but Zipps has let a loyal customer down. I am very disappointed. You used to be rated $, but should now be rated $$$$ for alterations. I will still go to Zipps for their dry cleaning of comforters, but no longer for alterations. read more

Today I went to Zips Dry Cleaners in hopes of picking up my shirt for the second time. Last time I went to pick it up, there were still stains on it that didn't get removed, so they said they would run it another round for free. This time, the lady brought out my clean polka-dot grey shirt and it was good as new. Oh wait - I don't own a grey shirt, and I'm pretty sure the color PIGEON-FEATHER GREY was in style circa 199-NEVER. It was ORIGINALLY a PLAIN WHITE silk shirt that I dry-clean and wear to work regularly, that apparently got shat on by an ant farm because it had little dot stains all over it. When I asked the lady why the white turned into a dusty grey, and how the past small stains had an orgy and erupted into camoflauge barf pattern, she said it was a difficult material to work with because "material that isn't machine washable and is dry clean only is really delicate". Like trying to hold back a boner in front of a girl you like, I felt a rush of blood explode in my head and had to hold back literally stabbing her in the face with my hanger - are you fucking JOKING ME. ITS SILK. NOT IMPORTED CAMEL FUR FROM BANGLADESH. What the FUCK is that even supposed to mean - OBVIOUSLY NON MACHINE WASHABLE MATERIAL IS HARD TO CLEAN - THAT'S THE WHOLE FUCKING POINT OF A DRY CLEANER, AKA THE WHOLE POINT OF YOUR FUCKING BUSINESS - AKA THE REASON WHY YOU WAKE UP EVERY MORNING. I took a deep breath and tried to calmly explain "this isn't what my shirt looked like before" and that "these stains weren't here before". She just looked at the shirt with that plain, doll eyed dumb face and said "that's the best we could do, we already ran it twice." The concept of REFUND or SORRY is obviously as foreign as the concept of DRY CLEANING to them. My favorite shirt is completely fucking ruined and I basically just paid to get it turned into a designer rag. Instead of going to Zips Dry Cleaners, just throw your clothes on the floor and run them over with your car after you just drove through a field of wet bird shit - you will get the same effect in half the time for free. read more

Although they claim to use the same equipment and process as a "regular" dry cleaners, they refused to take 4 of the 5 garments I brought in because they said they needed "special treatment". I gave them one piece to dry clean, and it came back shredded. They say it was given to them that way (although they had gone over all 5 items and would only accept one). They gave me a $2.39 credit for ruining a beautiful jacket. They can keep the credit- I'll take my cleaning elsewhere! read more

So far, I've not had a bad experience here. The staff do a great job of getting you in and out quickly, the prices can't be beat, and they've done a great job with my clothes. If I had any complaint at all, it would be that they only take cash and you have to pre-pay when you drop everything off. So if they screw something up, you really don't have any recourse. So far, it hasn't been an issue, so hopefully the trend will continue! read more

I was in Annapolis on business longer than I expected and stumbled on this place. Only $1.99 a garment, $0.99 for shirts and same day service! The caveat is cash only and pay at drop-off. All of my cleaning was done perfectly and I have hit this place on subsequent trips. I just wish this concept would expand to New England! read more

Zips is affordable, decent quality for a franchise chain dry cleaner. We have been going here for a year or so with very few instances that we have been disappointed. The only things I wish they would do are 1) accept credit cards and 2) offer "green" dry cleaning. Not a huge fan of all the chemicals. read more

We used to go to another dry cleaner out of "convenience". Not only was Zips much quicker, more cost effective and my clothes are CLEAN, the staff is friendly and helpful. Not only is the price worth it the service too. At the other location I paid $8.85 a shirt! Our monthly bill went from $400 to $130 @ a month. Totally worth the extra drive and a 24hour return, not oh 2 more days 3 days after drop off for 2 shirts and a suit. read more

I have been generally pleased with Zips in Annapolis. I have taken silk and leather to them and they turned out fine, maybe not totally perfect. By the time I put my seat belt on, you cannot tell any difference than any other much more expensive dry cleaner. Well, I decided to give this place a chance. I picked up 5 suit jackets this morning. They were OBVIOUSLY not cleaned, and they hardly look pressed. There are still wrinkles on the sleeves .I'm not sure what the $2.29 entails but i expected to get back at least clean garments. I have to give this store 1 star, because they don't have any score that lower than that. I went there to fix my uniforms and they charged me 25 dollars for each; I paid total 125 dollars for my 5 uniforms fixed. Then I went home and tried all of them were fixed wrong. The symbol of my facility instead of on my chest, but all of them UNDER my UNDERARM. I came and told them a bout that even I tried and let them see. Without apologizing they tried to go around the story and told me to come back many times to see manager or manager will call me; but I have never met the manager when I came back there and never received his call later. I am really disappointed about customer service in here. They just want to take money from customer but not take responsibility on their job. She was responsive on an issue after working hours, and did her best to help me with my situation. She was willing to go above and beyond for me. We've brought our clothes to Zipps for nearly a year and have gotten consistently good service at a low price. But recently they couldn't get a stain out of some dry clean only pants, and returned them with a note recommending a water wash. My wife went back in to say OK, and instead of taking the pants back at our risk, the manager took several minutes to explain how to take the stain out with a hand wash and enzyme cleaner at home. In addition to their low prices, we've found that Zipps is really willing to go the extra mile and they've earned our loyal business. read more

They clearly tore a button down shirt at the collar, showed it to me and expected me to walk away with nothing on a shirt that was $300! This Cleaners service and the majority of the employees are HORRIBLE!!!! I BELIEVE GIVING THIS CLEANERS ONE STAR IS WAY TOO GENEROUS!!! I have been to them five times and every time there is an issue and this last one is it, cost me $250 WASTED!! I have brought to them about 5 very expensive new button down dress shirts and some dress slacks that I had just purchased. When I picked them up, two shirts and a pair of pants came back ruined! One shirt had gotten multiple stains and they left a note on it and tried to say they did their best to get my stains out, it was brand new and I never wore it!! The other shirt was even worse, a dark purple and black in color was left with two no smaller than 1ft by 1 ft burned areas on the right from and back side by whatever they used burned the shirt so badly that it is unwearable and no good now that I cannot even wear it at all! The dress slacks again brand new came home with a huge rip and torn, I do not know what is going on there but I will never go back again!!I read more

Zips Dry Cleaners on Annapolis is a hit-or-miss type of business. I gave it three stars for it being O.K. I love the price they charge and the promptness of staff but have experienced some problems since I have been a customer most recently in the past month than I had in the 1+ Year I have been using them. I have been putting on my Brooks Brothers button downs, which are undoubtedly dry cleanable, and when I get them back I'm either missing a button or they will fall off when I put them on or during the day. These shirts are less than about 2 months out and have no reason besides a lower quality dry cleaning than normal. Also have had pants returned with a small rip in them (were bought the DAY before). Additionally, on the back of the receipt they will only refund about 50$ for a single garment which doesn't help much for ruining clothes that cost more. My advice is use zips for your sons shirts or clothes you don't care about that will withstand a budget cleaner, or take your places to a place with a higher attention to detail. read more
