Located in the Prince Kuhio Mall It's Zippy's! and being from California how often do we eat at Zippy's so, yes, I was super excited to find one in a Yelp search while we were in Hilo! This Zippy's is conveniently located in the Prince Kuhio Plaza. Sure they have burgers and sandwiches, noodles and soups but it's the classic local favorites we were after, Zippy's fried chicken and Pupu platters. Before we were seated we each had to take a temperature check. One by one we stood in front of a machine until after a few seconds our temps will flash on the reader. After we were all clear we were led to our table. We placed our orders. Our tasty grubs included: Chicken Katsu Fried Chicken Two Island Eggs w/ Portuguese Sausage Hamburger Steak Teriyaki Beef Spaghetti Malasadas (Napoleon's Bakery) Breakfast is served all day. We dined-in but they also have a section for fast food orders. Service was good and food came fast. Our party of 8 were pleased with our experience. Signed up for the zipster club and I used my reward I got for signing up. It was a large meal! The free meal was called a Zip PAC. I can honestly say it probably would of been better if I ate it there. I ordered it to go so I didn't get to eat it til an hour later. So I recommend dining in or eat it in the food court. I was surprised to get four varieties of meat, chicken, spam, fish and Terry beef. It came with a lot of rice! I love rice too! Ok this is the first time we are trying Zippy's despite the low reviews. We saw them on Oahu but never went. Then after research this is the place for chili and rice?! Must try! So happy there was one in Hilo when we were heading back from the Volcanoes. It was Easter Sunday and no one was inside except for 2 tables. No frills dated diner decor but our server was awesome. She was so nice and friendly we loved her. We ordered chicken katsu, bacon cheeseburger, side of chili, katsu chicken/korean chicken/fried chicken plate and lilikoi drinks. Maybe we were just really hungry but the food was bomb! We killed it and enjoyed it so much we ordered an extra mini plate of the katsu chicken and korean chicken to take back with us for later. There is also a bakery case around the corner and the to go fast food side. The sweet cashier told me they don't carry all the items as the sit down side does. When your server's attitude makes you uncomfortable asking for things from them, it is an issue. It is also an issue that your staff does not have the knowledge of ingredients in an item, and does not offer to ask the kitchen for those details. Instead she rolled her eyes. Very uncomfortable experience for us patrons. Order was not complete (forgot the french toast for the french toast place), coffee was never refilled, and she just placed down the bill without a word. Let's start off by saying the host was fabulous. The host was very patient with us while waiting for our entire party to show up. After being seated our main server was very patient with us. She gave us time to get our orders together. When the food started to come out another older woman helped bring out our food. That's where it went downhill. I've been to other restaurants where u ask another server for something they'll reply with let me get your server. Well someone asked for her drink and she told her I don't know ask the server when she comes. So she asked when the other server return and the older lady says yah yah I got it already . Xmas day and Jett took care of myself and my father. I am visiting so happy they were open on Xmas day. I really wanted pancakes but they didn't have anything made up. So I got the French toast plate with eggs and Portuguese sausage. French toast not hot enough in the middle but good. Portuguese sausage was so O'no eggs cooked perfectly. Not being from Hilo or Hawaii it was a little difficult to find with their name combined with a bakery on the sign. Once I figured out that they were two different stores in different locations I was fine. Their menu is quite extensive especially for a mainlander. I googled many of the items and decided on the Korean Chicken and Spam Musabi. The service was quick and cheerful. The food came out in a reasonable time. I did enjoy the Korean Chicken but the Musabi was my favorite. Rice was just the right portion to compliment the Spam. Wished I had ordered a second one but they were in the process of closing. The uber eats driver took a long time so the food was a little cold but it really hit the spot. We decided to go to the restaurant a day later and try it fresh. Visited this location to grab some food to nosh before our flight back to Oahu. Food was typical Zippy's taste and quality (a big plus), so that was a welcome relief. Given that it was a Sunday afternoon and we needed food that would travel well and still be tasty even at room temperature, a bento or a Zip Pack was just the thing to check those boxes! I will say that they seemed understaffed and disorganized, so it was hard to figure out who to see to pick up our online order. After a short delay we were able to get sorted, but given that we had pre ordered, it should have been pop in, pop out. I know many businesses are struggling with staffing now due to covid, so hopefully this was just a hiccup and not a typical thing. read more

We put our names in and was told it would be a short wait. Then the host disappeared for almost ten minutes, and when she reappeared she started seating people that had come in after us. When we asked why there was such a long wait there was no apology, just "busy". Finally got a table and like I said, our waitress was friendly and funny. I came here with my mom for a quick bite. So we went in to the restaurant. Our chili bowls were good. The reason for the 3 stars though is because of the front counter. My mom wanted to get some pastries to go. There was one girl working it by herself with a long line of customers. (I see from other reviews this isn't new) you can see people wandering around in the back kitchen area, but no one helping. The wait was so long, you saw people leaving the line to go eat at other places. This is the slowest counter I've ever seen at a Zippy's. So if you want fast food, you better off going inside the restaurant. Don't go to the counter. The picture shows help finally arriving. The food here is pretty basic. I ordered a small plate of grilled salmon with mashed potatoes, and my boyfriend ordered the chili plate with fried chicken, macaroni salad, and rice. We came here for lunch during the weekend. Our waitress was attentive but a bit slow starting our order, and the food came out pretty quickly (under 10 minutes) after we ordered. My boyfriend enjoyed his meal but thought it was really salty, especially near the end of his meal when he was trying to finish it. I didn't really enjoy my meal, however, because the salmon was bland (almost as if there was no seasoning) and difficult to eat if I didn't have the gravy. You guys failed me again I' m from Oahu and now reside here in Hilo, I've ate @ all 11 Zippy's locations on Oahu and have never experience this kind of food service before not 1 but 3 times, brah You figure you come to a Restaurant to have a hot meal and you know already what you gonna order you know the taste you bring your family of 6 along $$$$$$ you wait 20mins your food you all ordered complete meals which includes soup or salad, which should come out before the main dish we still waiting, waitress walking by, Oh, food arrives, where's our soups and salads I ask? Oh, sorry they say, take a bite of my chicken cold, my kids food cold, they bring the soup no soup spoon, water and soda cups went empty before the food came no refills had to ask. Today 03/11/25 Hungry for the fried noodles and a bowl of clam chowder came out warm to cold, and no soup spoon to eat my soup I was F N pissed and it killed my hunger the waiter comes over and ask about the soup if it was alright I said to him I tell you if I had a spoon to taste it he was lost for words.
