TLDR: Paid $4,000 to have my things destroyed. Complete nightmare. Details: I hesitated to trust my only possessions to an unknown moving company, but Zippy Shell representative Gregory Forrester assured me that they would carefully wrap and cushion my items for a cross-country move. He insisted they were professionals that Zippy Shell had worked with before, and that they regularly packed for overseas moves. The movers used zero common sense. A few items were partially wrapped loosely with paper, no bubble wrap or plastic or moving blankets, and nothing was cushioned at all. Completely ineffective. Even worse, everything had been tossed carelessly into the pod as if it were a dumpster headed for the landfill. My things arrived scratched, scuffed, beat up, filthy and, in some cases, completely destroyed. They broke a large cabinet because they tried to load it while still full. They didn't wrap any of its contents, so when it collapsed during the journey, the contents were scattered on the filthy floor, including a printer with a tray ripped off and my stereo which had fallen from an upper shelf. What kind of mover doesn't wrap electronics for a cross-country move?? Two expensive round nesting tables had been loosely wrapped in paper (not even a layer between them) - they had been rolling around on the ground and were scuffed and scratched everywhere. A decorative wall hanging had been squished under a load of heavy wooden slats and pieces of bedframe - none of which had been wrapped. A decorative wicker storage cube with boxes inside clearly labeled "Treasures" and "Fragile" had been tossed carelessly onto the pile, arriving scuffed and dirty and with an inexplicable smear of something like cement or dog poo that won't come off. The pod sat in my area for five days because the Zippy Shell customer service line wasn't answering or returning calls around the holiday. Now everything reeks of dank, musty basement, despite that they claim their storage is climate-controlled. It's possible the smell came from the pod itself, which was filthy, but that would've been mitigated had my things been properly packed. Everything had been in like-new condition at the start of the move, neatly organized in a very clean, climate-controlled storage unit. This was everything I'd intentionally saved from my house and life in Oregon. If these were things I didn't care about, I wouldn't have paid Zippy Shell $4,000 to have them shipped, after paying to store them for five years. I'm devastated to have lost these things, some of which had great sentimental value to me. If I'd known the condition they'd arrive in, I would have flown out to drive them across the country myself. To add insult to injury, I spent 45 minutes on the phone with Zippy Shell's customer service on moving day to request a claim form, which never showed up. I've since contacted customer service six times over the past two weeks to try to get the form. I requested a quote with Rat Pack and received 50,000 phone calls, texts and even emails. I reserved one container with Zippy and I need to order an additional container. So I am ADDING To cost. I was on hold for 30 minutes and then requested a callback. Zippy called me back but I've now been on hold for 30 minutes - AGAIN!!! I am concerned if anything goes wrong, who will I be able to speak with?! I've emailed the booker multiple times. DO NOT USE THEM Absolute worst experience. I rented 3 pods. The Zippy Shell movers basically threw the expensive furniture into the pods with no regard for anything. The pods all showed up with tattered black plastic cover. As a result, everything was covered in black soot causing us hours and hours of cleaning. All said, I filled out a detailed claim form and they denied every single item. They quoted a line in the contract that wasn't even applicable. I appealed and they simply denied everything again. Similar experience to the other reviews here. Terrible communication. My pod was supposed to be delivered in 6 days, and it has been almost a month. They do not respond to emails, do not respond to phone calls. You call the sales line, they transfers you to the service line, and you are promptly disconnected. Their callback service "is disconnected at this time" and if you select it, you get disconnected. During the initial complaints they promised compensation for my troubles but have yet to do that or deliver my POD. Stay AWAY and use a more reputable service. read more

I need to reiterate the other reviewer's warning: Zippy Shell and Pack Rat are one and the same, using 3rd parties to do the packing and moving. The container that my belongings were packed into had a missing latch-therefore no lock could be put on to secure my belongings. I notified Zippy Shell and they assured me that at the warehouse, a latch would be welded on and lock put in place. They casually told me this happens often but I can rest assure that it will be fixed. Upon receiving my container at my destination, the same rope used to tie the container door closed was still there, not latch and lock. The delivery guys were supposed to call in advance of delivery to give me time to receive my container and so I can tell them to cut the lock off since I didn't have a key because it was supposedly applied at the warehouse, instead, they called as they arrived. When asked about the lock, they were completely unaware and were not told to call in advance of arrival. Upon unloading my container, I discovered that they crew who loaded it made poor judgement and placed my custom made light-weight shelf in the bottom, topped with heavier items and another heavier shelf. It split along the seams and along the entire length. I sent in a claims and it was denied, stating/citing a fine print: "We do not assume liability for damage caused directly or indirectly by any of the following, regardless of any other cause or event contributing concurrently or in any sequence to loss: or (xii) damage caused by improper packing, normal shifting or intentional acts. (please see attached rental agreement terms/conditions)" Based on the terms of the Addendum, this is not a covered loss." So in plain language, YOU ARE NOT PROTECTED AT ALL, even though they lead you to believe so. The protection they are offering is nothing more than empty words that lack merit and is meaningless. Zippy Shell a/k/a Pack Rat will literally lie, cheat, and steal your money. The staff, management included, won't give you their real names nor will they give you the name of the 3rd party trucking company(s) that actually take possession of your belongings. We were promised, five(5) different times, with a date for delivery that NEVER came and it ruined our 2023 Thanksgiving. It wasn't until we threatened them with law enforcement that they actually followed through with a promise of delivery late as it was. Needless to say they refused to give a discount and lied about contacting us to discuss it after a negative review was posted. Horrible experience with Zippy Shell/Pack Rat. Warning to anyone considering using either of these two companies. Zippy Shell ads draw you in with promises for a worry-free, low cost alternative to traditional van lines. My experience was anything but. A Zippy Shell employee visited my home and personally inventoried my household goods and also recommended an independent company to crate miscellaneous fragile objects. This representative was very clear that all my goods, including items crated by their recommended contractor, would fit into two of their standard shipping containers. Not once did any company representative suggest that I would need a third container. As the bid was competitive, I entered into agreement with Zippy Shell, relying on their so-called expertise in estimating. On moving day things started going south when the packers told me space was an issue, and that I had to shrink 6 wardrobe boxes down to 2. Then I watched as 3 very large garage cabinets were taken off the truck and put back into my garage. The final straw was that none of my patio furniture would fit in the provided containers, and I was informed that these items would not be a part of the transfer. It was too late to unpack, so I was left standing in the drive of my home, two days before closing, with several items slated to be left behind! I had numerous conversations with Zippy Shell and Pack Rat representatives. Each and every one of them had the same position. It was my fault the items they inventoried exceeded their provided transport facilities. The offered solution was for me to pay an additional fee to cover transport of the items left behind. That's right - blame the customer! Zippy Shell's "solution" to make me spend even more money to make up for their inaccurate estimate was absolutely unacceptable. They absolutely refused to credit the contract for the value of abandoned items. This is how Zippy Shell treats a senior citizen customer. So, beware of these companies. No show, then rescheduled for a later date w/o even talking to me. Service cancelled. Booked their small "pod" for over $2700, going from southeast Michigan to eastern Tennessee. The delivery was scheduled on 9/2/2023 and during the week leading to it, I was getting frequent text reminders. Then on that day, nothing showed up and nobody called to alert me, when I finally called their 800 number past noon time, even the service rep. was surprised to find out the delivery had been "rescheduled" to 9/4. All that took place without anyone from Zippy Shell telling me about the change. It threw my moving plan into total disarray, I had friends coming over to help packing on 9/3, and had made travel arrangements based on agreed upon dates. Adding to the insult, later that afternoon I received an email titled "Good News, we have confirmed your original delivery date (of 9/4)". I cancelled service and rented a truck instead, other than the hassle of driving a 20 ft. box truck for about 650 miles, the total cost including rental fee, fuel, two Lyft rides and one way flight back to Michigan, was about half of what Zippy Shell would have charged me. read more

Save yourself from this experience. Overpromising and under-delivering. My units were scheduled to be picked up on the 19th. Two days later, they were still in my driveway. The 8-10 business day delivery of my pods were impacted and pushed back until AFTER the July 4th holiday. Customer service agents, sales reps and managers had different explanations, different communications and different timelines. The compensation for this experience was $100 on a $6k order. Nope. Lots of promises from them...no follow through. Got a great price quote and that was the end of it. I wanted to have a container dropped off one day and picked up the next...but what they dont tell you is that the drop off can happen as late as 8pm and the pick up as early as 8am. I mean really. Who loads thee house up at midnight? I was told repeatedly that a 'coordinator' was going to call me to set up delivery....never happened. So here we are. This company is a complete nightmare. When I called for a quote, the sales person promised me that if I pay an extra $500, they will expedite the shipping of the container and ensured me that I will get my items delivered on the day that I have asked. The week leading up to the when the movers come to pick up my items, I had to call and email 5 times to get the COI corrected, and yet on the day of the move, I have to call me while the movers are moving my furnitures to get an update on the COI, they promised that the COI will be expedited but yet in the end I still have never received the COI. During that same call I have asked to confirm my deliver date of 7/11, that's when they notify me that they cannot make the original date, and that they will need one more day. To confirm that they will be able to deliver during 7/12, they have asked me to pay my entire move in full. I was desperate to make sure that I get my deliver because I have a flight out of state on 7/13, I paid them in full and they sent me confirmation that the deliver will be on 7/12. They also told me that they might be able to deliver the container to the facility early. A week later, I called again to confirm my date of 7/12 and ask to see if 7/11 was still available, the person on the phone said that she has sent the request over. On 7/11, I called since the movers have never confirmed to make sure that I am getting my delivery, that's when they told me that the container still has not arrived at the facility and they won't be able to deliver on 7/12. I argued back on the phone because they have deliver tons of empty promises, they told me that a supervisor will contact me before the end of day (and I called at 12pm). I have never gotten a call back from the manager, I just randomly got an email confirming my delivery. So I called them again just to confirm and the person on the phone confirmed that the delivery will definitely happen on 7/12 and the movers will be here between 8am to 12noon. I also received communication from the mover to confirm the date and details so I felt better that it will happen. On 7/12 morning, I got ready and expecting the move. Around 12pm, I was really worried and I received a text from the mover that the text conversation is no longer valid. So I called Zippy Shell and just so happen while I was waiting on the call tone, I received a call from them at the same time. The lady on the phone then told me that my container still has not arrived at the facility so they cannot deliver today and told me that they will be here on 7/14. I told them that I have a flight at 6am on 7/13, so that is impossible for me. She said she will gather more info and speak to her manager and get back to me. At 3:30pm, I still did not receive a call back so I called them again. The lady told me that there is nothing they can do today and offered me a $150 compensation. This compensation is NOT acceptable to me because I have arrange for a friend to come help me from NY and the flight ticket itself is more than the compensation. I have rearranged my plans twice and the cost that have gotten into that far exceed their offer. She told me that maybe I can go and pick up the container myself or take a few things from it. How am I going to drive a truck myself? What is a few things going to do for me when my entire apartment is emptied into that container? She now has to speak to her manager to see what else they can do for me and try to confirm a new delivery date, in which, I have no faith in getting compensated or getting my items in general. I was straight forward from the beginning that I need my deliver on 7/11 and I have no wiggle room for delivery. They could've just been honest from the beginning and I couldn't gone for a different company, but they are just money hungry, they will take your money at all cost and take no responsibility in delivering your items. The only time they called me was when they ask for money because my credit card did not process the complete payment. This was the single worst moving decision I ever made. Zippy she'll contracts out with a third party mover, and never notified them of my move date. My entire move was delayed five days, flights had to be rebooked, housing arranged, and they're offering of compensation was to waive a rental fee of $219 and give $100 for compensation. This was the most frustrating and disappointing move I have ever experienced. The Zippy Shell sales rep sold me a bill of goods and I fell for it all the way. The price seemed good and was the deciding point. I had called Pact Rat pods which I have used before and ended up with Zippy Shell who are owned by the same company, so I thought I was ordering Pods. When the truck arrived and opened up the was this oversized dog kennel in the back which is not as large as the pod I was expecting. That was the first shock, the second cage was to be loaded the next day at their suggestion, but they did a no show and said they would have to reschedule. The second one showed up the next day but then both of the pods sat in Tampa for a week before shipping. They would not let me make an appointment for delivery until arrival at Charleston so I could not get a convenient delivery day, it is going to take almost a month to get my belongings and they have you trapped. If you have made an appointment for Zippy Shell, cancel it. Order PODs and hire your help if needed, this a horrible company and are very nice to until they get you trapped. I have moved cross country several times, even over water and this is by far the worst. Do yourself a favor and don't do it. read more

I have only used this company once but have moved several times with others and not had the negative experience that I had this time. First I was told and quoted a move date that was within the timeframe I needed, and was the main reason I chose this company. After accepting my payment and 2 days before my move, I was told that it would be at least 2 weeks after the promised date of delivery. After multiple calls and emails I was eventually given a $250 discount and only after they listened to the original call to verify I wasn't lying about the original delivery date promised. For 17 nights our family had no furniture ( bed included) and all the company could offer was a $250 discount with little apology. They told me what I wanted to hear just to get my money. This is for the national office. Where to start. They lie, from beginning to end, about how the service works. Time, procedure. Everything. But I'll skip all the small annoyances and get to the big problem: I cannot get my things. I did a long distance move from Nashville to Seattle. My things supposedly arrived at the warehouse in Seattle. But guess what? They're backlogged for delivery. They asked me for three dates. And then picked a random date a week later. I said I couldn't do this random day they picked. And they said they'd get back to me. Because the folks that answer the phones literally just answer phones. They cannot do accounts. They cannot do scheduling. They are human voicemails. Relaying messages. Fine. I said "Cancel the labor you preemptively billed me for and I'll come and get my things myself from the warehouse." Which is allowed. The human voicemail said, "Let us get back to you about that." The problem is that the human voicemails don't relay the issues to a person, so you get an automated message that approximates a fix. And if you don't like it, you call and leave another message. Wait another 4 days. And do it over again. I'll update this when I actually get my stuff. But I am envisioning a very long wait. **Update: I wish I could say I have my stuff. Its been 2 weeks since the first review and these folks can't even get their story straight about what state my things are. All those calls and emails about delivery turned out to be an act of misdirection. (Which explains why they never seemed to be able to get back to me about my coming to the warehouse myself to pick up my things. But anyway...) Because I eventually gave up and accepted their proposed delivery date. The day of my supposed delivery--after I had been waiting for 3 hours--I get a call saying "we are so sorry" but my stuff never left Nashville. What? The very next day, I get an email saying my things have arrived in Seattle, and when can they schedule a delivery? These 2 places are 3000 miles apart. So...not really possible? So I call and the person I talked to says, "oh yes, its in Seattle. I called the warehouse myself!...But I can't tell you yet when they can deliver it...um, we'll get back to you." These folks are clearly telling tales to buy themselves time. For what purpose, I cannot know. But run...don't walk away from this company. I thought they were just incompetent. SCAM - FRAUD - INCOMPETENCE - DECEIT: Do not under any circumstances hire this company! Here are the highlights: 1. Did not show up on schedule pick-up date & when I contacted them , they said that POD truck broke down and had to reschedule and send us a moving truck instead of the Pod. 2. MOVING TRUCK THAT THEY SENT WAS TOO SMALL & COULD NOT ACCOMMODATE THE SAME AMOUNT OF ITEMS THAT THE POD WOULD HOLD! Items were left behind & no return trips to pick up these items were offered. 3. Called and asked to get warehouse access to the Pod to transport items left behind. I was willing to travel 33 minutes each way and provide own transportation & labor of items left behind by moving truck (Love Seat & 10 boxes). I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS AT THE MANAGERS DISCRETION IF AND WHEN I WOULD RECEIVE A CALL BACK. 4. I called back 72 hours after initial call/request and after over 1 hour on the phone was given access to the warehouse the following day. 5. I called the morning of the warehouse access to reconfirm time and location and arrived at the warehouse at the scheduled time with one of two loads of items. Upon arriving, the warehouse manager told us that he had been waiting for us for 2 hours as he was told our arrival was at 7:30 & we were told that our scheduled time is 9:30. 6. The semi truck driver was also waiting for 2 hours as he had arrived pick up & start transporting our Pod from OH to FL. We were not going to be able to bring the 2nd load of items to the Pod as the semi needed to leave immediately. 7. Called company and was told that they apologize for all of their errors but basically they can't transport our loveseat despite still having room for it in the Pod. We are left with a loveseat that they refuse to transport despite their errors (sending smaller truck than Pod size & not giving us access to bring items left by movers to the Pod in the warehouse. THEIR SOLUTION WAS FOR US TO BUY ANOTHER POD FROM THEM TO TRANSPORT THE LOVE SEAT!!! 8. I am now stuck with a Loveseat that I have to figure out how to transport. The discount that they offered for their errors would not be enough to even cover the gas let alone the rental cost of a Uhaul. By the way, every item in the contract is "at their discretion" and they state that they, as per company policy, DO NOT give out any names (even first), of their direct manager. THEIR IS NO ACCOUNTABILITY ON THEIR END!!! They subcontract out their logistics to a third party so they also will not give any information on the warehouse, shippers, etc. so you can't contact them directly. The 3rd party they sent out made me feel uncomfortable. One of them broke my stand up desk. He did it directly in front of my door camera. So I filed a claim, sent the video of him doing it, and Zippy Shell still denied my claim. They took 90+ days to deny my claim. They also charged me an extra $75 because I lived on the 3rd floor and they failed to mention this during the initial discussion or in the contract. I wrapped my furniture in a protective film and one of them removed the film from some of my items. My furniture was damaged. After charging me for insurance, proving verifiable proof that they damaged my furniture, and still denying my claim, I feel scammed. After reading the reviews on Yelp, BBB and Google, I'm seeking the next steps to file a class action lawsuit. Do not use this company; protect yourself. read more
