I have used ZipCubes multiple times to temporarily stash the bulk of my nonessential things while moving around between short-term sublets in this wretched housing market. They have been great every time. The main benefit for me is the pod delivery service. It's $130 but it saves me half a day of renting a cargo van (which would cost $60+ anyways), driving it to storage, unloading it, and dropping it back off. It may take anywhere between a day and a week to go through the whole signup and delivery scheduling process. It's been stress free and straightforward to store my stuff with them. So far I haven't had any of the bad experiences that people often have with typical self-storage facilities such as surprise rent raises, burglaries, or water damage. The pods are stacked up in their warehouse, so you need to call/text in ahead of time to access so that they can get the pod out for you with a forklift. The person who coordinates is super friendly and helpful. I use my pod for cold storage like tools, bulky sports equipment, and furniture that doesn't fit at my current sublet, so I don't need to get in there too often or urgently. Maybe a few times a year. If you're using it similarly to me as cold storage then it's great. If you need to access your stuff urgently at random times on weekdays outside of work hours then they're probably not for you. read more

Ive never been prompted to write a negative review before now. I hope I can spare someone else the stress and issues I have had to deal with as it pertains to this company by letting you know how poorly run this company is and how terrible their customer service is as well. This company has been problematic from the start. One day before we were supposed to received our two moving pods, the company informed us that their truck had been stolen and therefore they could only deliver one pod at a time. This is problematic if you have hired movers yourself to load your pods. I had to pay a set of movers to come TWICE to a location that is not super easy to get to and take off two days of work to manage this which cost me even more money. We had to access our storage unit ONE time during the 9 months period. We called a few days ahead and were told that Saturdays are not longer an option despite it still showing the contrary on their website. We had to pay $125 for saturday access! If you think you will ever need to access your storage on a weekend (like most people) then do not store it here. Finally, we set up our move-in date weeks in advance and 14 hours before our schedule delivery I got a phone call saying that the fork lift operator was injured so now the owner would have to man the fork this. This, for some reason, was going to shift our arrive window from 7:30-9:30 to 11am. I had a team of movers scheduled and booked for a 10am start time since the pod company only has ONE truck and I have two pods. They have to drop one pod off, drive back to San Leandro to get the other then come back. This is a 3 hour round trip so now my movers will have to sit around for an hour or more BEFORE the first pod arrives and also between pods arriving. Despite me asking for the owner to call me to discuss, I have yet to hear from him. Moves are stressful and require a lot of dependencies. This company is unreliable and could jeopardize your move. I would not recommend them at all. read more

SIMPLY THE BEST. If you are looking for a cube / storage, that comes to your house, there is NO BETTER option. I did all the research. Called all the places. Agonized about a seemingly simple decision. You can benefit from what I did and start at the end: Call ZipCubes. In short, the experienceis - you call zipcubes - you talk to a human, locally. they answer your questions - you pick a cube size - it gets dropped off in front of your house. NO PERMITS. NO NOTHING. It's on wheels, so no permits needed. - you fill it - they come and get it, store it safely at their business - (we didn't do this: when you want access, you can get access at their business) - when you want it back, you call them, they bring it back - you empty it (or just get what you need) - you call them, they come get it You pay a flat fee per month. NOTHING hidden. All of the above is included, including when they take the cube back and forth. THIS IS SIMPLY A BETTER MODEL. Finally, they're just super nice. Super accommodating. Super patient. read more

ZipCubes was a lifesaver during our move. After reading some terrible reviews from other container companies and being worried about reliability, I was delighted to find this local option. The price was extremely good (best price compared to other container companies), Alex was really helpful on the phone and email, and able to get our container delivered the next day. The delivery people were very friendly and efficient when dropping the container off, and they promptly picked it up after we had loaded it over the weekend. They stored all our stuff safely and then dropped the container back off when we needed it, giving us however long we needed to unload it (e.g. 3 days) before picking it back up again. There were no delays or complications, everything went super smoothly. The whole thing made our move, which required a lot of logistics, so much simpler. And Alex and his team's responsiveness, flexibility (we had to change our schedule a few times and they were very accommodating), and transparency gave us a lot of peace of mind. (one thing to note, don't rely on their online form to get a quote, but call directly) read more

Seems there was a communication/expectation issue. My expectation were I would receive my contract docs within a few hours of speaking with them as the delivery was less than a week away. After my Sunday email asking where the docs were, (which they probably did not see till Monday), I received them Monday afternoon. Andrew called to follow up immediately after seeing my review. Proper customer service. Their website ordering system still needs to be addressed. I am not the only customer who ordered on-line, right down to the credit card, who's order disappeared. I would recommend you not use the website and just call them. They were very responsive on the phone. My apologies to Andrew for the poor communication mishap. read more

These guys were great to work with many years back when I needed storage. They came, I loaded, they left. Super simple. I was able to easily schedule appointments at their warehouse in Hayward to see my stuff. I would definitely recommend this service. read more

After researching prices of moving a storage cube from San Francisco to Chicago the decision to go with Zip Cube was easy. They were a a full thousand dollars less than competitors (UHaul and PODS). I was skeptical as the prices was so much less but I just received my items and everything went just fine. Some differences that I found with Zip Cube compared to competitors: - They work with other vendors, similar to their company, throughout the U.S. Therefore my cube was packed in SF, transported by Zip Cube and received in Chicago by another storage cube rental company. The other company was a breeze to work with as well however you just don't know for certain what you are going to be dealing with. When you go with PODS or Uhaul you deal with just that one company, although you may deal with various locations and then I guess it is just the same situation of not knowing what or who will be handling your stuff. - The cube size Zip Cube offers was larger than I was quoted with both Uhaul and PODS. I would have had to rent 2 cubes and then the price would have been 4x more than Zip Cube!! I paid $1200 for one cube from SF to Chicago, where I would have had to pay close to $4000 for 2 cubes from the other 2. I would have just sold my furniture for sure if that was the only option. - The PODS agent told me they offer some kind of system within their cube which straps your things securely into place, whereas with Zip Cube you pack it all yourself. You can always purchase insurance for the cube, which Zip Cube did recommend when I signed the contract. I did not do it and my stuff was all undamaged when it arrived. -Zip Cube has excellent customer service, they were very responsive to every call I made. It was nice to deal with a more "mom and pop" shop and customer service style than a big bloated company where the person on the phone really has no idea where your stuff might be. Overall I give them 5 stars but I reduced it to four because it is a little nerve racking to not know if the receiving company will be as professional and responsive as Zip Cube is. read more

I signed up with Alex, who made joining Zipcubes a very smooth process. I wasn't sure how long I'd need a storage space, so I just went with month-to-month. When I got there, I'd forgotten to bring a padlock, but it was no problem- he had a brand new Master Lock for sale. To stage my condo for potential renters, I hauled a bunch of junk to ZipCubes. Jeff and Alex are pretty flexible, as long as you give them advance notice so that they can actually get your cube onto the ground (all the cubes are arranged like stacked shipment containers). They are very accessible by phone. I had to go once or twice a week, so they were able to position my cube in a more accessible area. At the end, I arranged for my cube to be sent to my new home in Marin County. Jeff was great! He had a great hand truck that was much better than my dinky dolly, so I borrowed that when transporting stuff from the cube. He's such a friendly and honest guy- someone you'd trust with your possessions. I was really happy with my ZipCubes experience. The facility is secure and has security cams. Even when I was alone, I felt very safe in the facility. I also noticed that there were other women doing their storage activities, too. read more

Great price and half as much work as moving to a self storage unit. Jeff and Alex were both great. Talked to Jeff on the phone and got prices from him before booking the cubes. I originally booked two cubes because it's hard to anticipate how much stuff will fit. And the cubes were smaller than other self storage units I was looking at (the calculators on those sites were telling me I needed at least 10'x10'). Turned out everything fit into one 8'x5'x7' cube, so they didn't charge me for the second one. I definitely would be paying 2-3 times more with any other option (and I would have more space than I knew what to do with). Alex showed up on time and helped organize and move stuff with us. They allot 1.5 hours/cube and we were definitely within that time (they had allotted 3 hours because of the two cubes...I think it only took us one hour). Both Alex and Jeff were super helpful. My only criticism was that I never got an actual confirmation email about the booking. Sounds like those guys work really hard and are out onsite a lot of the time (they also said they were one man down) so it's must have just slipped through the cracks. That being said, when I called to remind them to send a confirmation email, they had all my info and appointment booking info. So just because I didn't get an email didn't mean they forgot about me. Will update when I move somewhere and they deliver it to me. Hopefully it will be just as painless. read more

I comparison shopped extensively and ZipCubes has the best prices and the most flexible service of any of the pod storage firms I looked at. - The stuff is stored at Pier 27 for easy access (just call the day before you want to access the cube). - Great monthly price - Great price if you want the cube brought to your location - Clean, dry facility. read more

ZipCubes Storage & Moving - zip cubes cube being dropped off at someone's apartment - Self Storage Near Me

Way exceeded my expectations. I packed and staged all my stuff the day before the move. Zip dude arrived on time, surveyed the situation, and then directed the 3 guys I hired from the San Francisco Day Labor Program for 2 1/2 hours while I tied up loose ends. I didn't expect to get a Move Director along with the $95 delivery charge for 2 cubes. It's great to have someone who knows what they're doing to help you out at a stressful time. One thing I didn't realize was that the boxes don't come off the flatbed when you're loading. So you have to dolly (provided) your items up a ramp from the ground into the cube. I'lll post a followup in a couple of months when I unbox. read more

Flexible, patient and cost effective! I had a family crisis which resulted in me needing to move to Atlanta from the Bay Area, CA on short notice. My move was completely disorganized and I called ZipCubes (Alex) at least 5 times as I tried to figure out how to get my belongings back to Atlanta. I finally decided to have my things shipped to Atlanta after I left California, so ZipCubes worked with Joan (professional organizer) who supervised my move, emptied my apartment in CA, turned in my apt keys, etc. My original move date had rain in the forecast (and it did rain that day). ZipCubes called me to suggest we reschedule - THANK YOU! It would have be horrible to have my things rained on. I priced ZipCubes along with several other "national" pod moving companies and I found ZipCubes to be the most flexible and cost effective. Since I was totally new to this concept, I will describe my process: - ZipCubes arrived at my Public Storage unit - Movers that I hired separately moved my items into the ZipCubes (I had two) - My items were sent to a warehouse in SF, CA and loaded unto a truck a few days later - My items arrived in Atlanta at SmartBox (the "local affiliate") within about 10 days - SmartBox coordinated bringing my items to my new place - I kept my SmartBoxes for three weeks at no additional cost (I was told that they can't guarantee this amount of flexibility) I paid about 1/3 of the cost of long haul movers = savings of approx $7k. When compared to the national pod companies I saved about $500 - $1k using ZipCubes. I could not believe I saved this much money! Thank you ZipCubes for your excellent customer service and cost savings! read more

I will give props to Jeff & Zip Cube for a fast response on a quote request that I made online over the weekend. The price is very inviting but the fact that they do not service the area that I am moving to is why I only gave 2 stars. Their website says " Perfect for local and long distance moves". My wife and I are moving less than 100 miles south of the East Bay. We are not moving across state line or to the East Coast or our Federal boarders.. read more

This is an exceptional storage company. They've been storing my stuff since April 2014, for far less than what we were also paying for a static space down in Hunter's Point. Arranging a timely delivery was easy. Our guy said we'd have about four hours to load it, and he doesn't exactly load the cube (you need to do it yourself or hire a strong back or two), he will help you put it together like a giant tetris puzzle. All of his advice was spot on, and everything survived the trip from Oakland to Treasure Island, the move to Hayward, and the final delivery and unpack at ABF in Oakland. We also accessed the cube a couple of times while it was at Treasure Island, and they were always able to arrange a visit quickly. We had some trouble arranging a Relocube to deliver to Zipcube to move the contents to the PNW. So Zipcube delivered to Relocube at their shipping terminal (ABF). The biggest surprise was that we got a pro-rated refund on the rest of the month from Zipcube - again, our storage space down in Hunter's Point didn't even do that. I always find the guys answering the phone and calling me back to be personable and efficient. The one guy was trying to arrange for a way to pack up our Hunter's Point storage space and hold it at Zipcube so it would be easier for us to pack up everything at once in the Relocube. How nice is that? read more

My wife found this company as we gathered things to move out of our place in the east bay. I wasn't aware of Pod service until she told me about ZipCube. I just assumed we were going to put it in a storage unit. Well, now I know that a mobile storage unit is the way to go. Jeff was our contact. His communication with us was exceptional. He picked up our items in June when we left, and then dropped them off recently as we just moved to the Peninsula. I really don't enjoy the moving process, but ZipCube made the process go a little bit easier. The only thing I recommend is to have a team of movers, whether it be friends/family. read more

Once our home's foundation failed I knew we were in big trouble. We needed to scoot to smaller temporary housing and stash a fair amount of our household goods away. I searched around and found these guys. The were cheaper, friendlier, and responsive. We stuffed some of our stuff into their cool aluminum cubes and waved it goodby. Until we had a work transfer to Spain during the reconstruction of our home. A quick call to Jeff and we had some more cubes delivered to our temporary home. We stuffed them up quite well and said goodby. ZipCubes worked with us upon return, trundling cubes over piecemeal as we moved back into our repaired house. We really couldn't of asked for more. read more

These guys have fantastic customer service! The company normally requires 48 hour notice to access your storage unit, but Alex was kind enough to let me drop off stuff with less than an hour notice. He went above and beyond and don't know what I would have done otherwise! Thank you zip cubes, you guys rock! read more

I highly recommend using Zip Cubes! Jeff was awesome and made the experience seamless, it couldn't have gone better. Each cube can store a ton of stuff and I was able to easily fit a 2 bedroom flat into two cubes. We reserved a ZipCube online -- we got the email saying the reservation process isn't confirmed until they get in touch to iron out details, and that we should expect to hear from them within 24 hours. Nine days later and I haven't heard from them. I've called 4 times on different days at different times, left a voicemail but no return call. I also sent an email, again no reply. Perhaps they're busy? We can't wait to confirm, we're booking with a competitor. Too bad, the reviews and price look great! read more

Night and day from pods. These guys are real and took so much time setting up my move with me. Walked me through the process and were dependable. All the positive reviews are true. I changed my mind twice about what size storage I wanted, and it was a hassle-free experience with every request I made. It is incredible that a company that wants to earn business and inspire trust can be so terrible at customer service. Three days ago, I called ZipCubes and left a message. This morning, two days after leaving them a message, I sent them another message via their OWN website. I still have not heard back from them. If a company wants to be trusted, they should at least contact customers who they have yet to earn. How could anyone trust a company such as this with their belongings. What if I had already paid them and wanted to access my belongings. Terrible service and I would not ever do business with this organization. read more

How often do you use the line "We love our storage people!"... Personally, I'd never used it until this past year when I used Zip Cubes. Jeff and Alex from Zip Cubes are great! They are professional and super friendly and Zip Cubes couldn't be a better value. My boyfriend and I left SF to travel for a year so we needed to put all of our things in storage. They come to your door, you load it up, then they take it away and store it. A year later it was delivered back to us when we came back and found a new place. It couldn't have been easier, storage rates are the best in town, and saved it us from renting a truck. If we ever wanted access to our stuff we just called the day before and they got our cube out for us. While we were off on the other side of the world traveling we never once worried about our stuff. Jeff made us feel like we were just leaving our stuff in the garage of a good friend. read more

I have used ZipCubes off and on for about 2 years now and have never had a problem. For the past two time, Derrick has dropped off or picked up my stuff. Derrick was on time, incredibly kind, and even offered to help load and unload. He was so great and I he would specifically be the reason I continue to use ZipCubes. I cannot stress how helpful and nice Derrick has been the past two visits. Alex was also great with communicating over the phone and helping with logistics. Thanks for everything you guys. read more

I've been a customer during several periods of time away from the bay area for over four years. I wouldn't trust anyone else except these guys. Last spring I made plans to put my stuff in a traditional storage unit in San Francisco during the summer. I reserved it online at a large storage facility in SoMA. I had moved recently so I was planning on making the impact on friends and family are minimal as possible. My plan was to have some friends help me move furniture and then move the rest on my own slowly but surely. I went to the facility to get keys and see the place. Within 3 minutes I was in complete panic thinking about driving down to SoMA multiple times to a huge factory and moving my things bit by bit up an elevator, down a hallway, up 14 steps and down another long, narrow hallway. I told the manager that I needed a moment outside. I quickly googled POD-like storage options. I am a single person and have always lived in a shared house so PODS are not a very economical option for me. Within a minute or so I saw the link for Zipcube and called them up. After a short conversation, I had a cube "pick-up" scheduled for a few days from the phone call. I went back in and canceled my storage unit. I will NEVER use a traditional storage unit again. It took me about 75 minutes to load up all of my things with only 1 friend helping me move my things down 3 flights of stairs. It was SO wonderful to finish packing up the cube and realize that I didn't have to deal with it again. I cannot believe I almost spent time loading up a truck, unloading a truck and loading into a sketchy storage unit in SoMA. I don't think it actually ended up costing more money than a traditional storage unit but I certainly would have paid a bit extra to save an enormous amount of time and hassle. I am putting my things in storage over the summer while I travel and will definitely be using ZipCube again. read more

This is the best idea ever. They bring a cube to your house and then take it away with all your stuff, which you don't have to see again until they bring it back to your new house. Just the fact that I don't ever have to go back and forth to a storage facility, lugging things up and down endless hallways and elevators, makes it worth it to me. On top of that, they couldn't be more efficient and friendly to work with. Love it. read more

All the reviews are legit; these guys did a great job! This is really 5 star services as my standards are very high and moving really sucks. Here's how it went down: We were moving from San Francisco to the Peninsula so I called a few days before the move to confirm everything, and we were set. Let me say that Jeff and Alex respond to all emails and promptly call back. We had almost everything packed so there were no surprises (if you are going to complain about how long it's taking, do a reality check to make sure YOU did your due diligence and packed up everything because it's your responsibility). Day before the move: Jeff calls me twice and confirms that everything is set. Day of move Jeff called early in the morning to again confirm that we are good to go. He showed up on time and got everything laid out with a friendly smile. Now I had my own crew for the move so all Jeff had to do was sit in the truck and dose off which is fine. Instead, he helped organize the crew like a foreman, showed the best way to pack the units (LISTEN TO HIS ADVICE), and even helped moving...lifting some very heavy items which is above and beyond any expectations and not something he has to do. Even let us use his heavy duty dolly. We loaded up very quickly, Jeff confirmed everything again with the storage and pick up dates, and he rode off into the sunset as the man of saved the day. read more

If you want convenient and efficient storage, this is the place. Also, the customer service is great. Jeff and Alex who run this place give you their cell phone number and always call back within hoursif they are not immediately available. Zipcube storage's customer service consistenly exceeds my expectations since I rented their cubes early last year. I have gone back to the storage and pick up/ drop off things quite a few times, and sometimes I stayed after their hours, they were still waiting for me to finish up patiently. Nick and team are great and made the process of moving and storing my Nob Hill apartment quick and easy. We were able to fit a 500 square foot apartment into one cube. Granted I'm not a hoarder, but I was incredibly surprised that everything fit into one (even though they brought a second cube at no additional charge, just in case). After doing my research, ZipCubes has the best prices in SF/Bay area and really incredible service. Use Zip Cubes if you need to store your stuff short term or long term. There's no reason to spend hundreds of dollars a month with their Bay area moving/storage competitors who want to price gouge because they think they can. ZipCubes is awesome. Thanks again Nick.
