We visited Zio Toto for dinner for the first time. While the restaurant wasn't very busy, it was beautifully decorated for Valentine's Day weekend, creating a charming atmosphere. My husband particularly appreciated the rose-shaped napkins, which added a thoughtful touch to the decor. Our server came to our table right away, without introduction. He was very nice and took our order right away. We started with drinks--Tito's with Diet Coke and a dirty martini--followed by an appetizer of meatballs, which we found to be good. For our entrées, I ordered linguini with lobster, cherry tomatoes, and basil, while my husband chose the spiedini. Unfortunately, both dishes were disappointing. My linguini was unexpectedly spicy, which was not indicated on the menu, and I only ended up eating the lobster. My husband's spiedini was even more underwhelming. Traditionally, this dish features a filling of Italian ham and either pecorino or provolone cheese, but what he received was a dry, tasteless, spam-like mixture that bore little resemblance to an authentic spiedini. Despite our disappointment with the main courses, we decided to try dessert--mainly because we were still hungry. We shared a chocolate mousse cake, which turned out to be delicious. Food and service was on point they were able to handle a last minute reservation for my lunch party after having a last minute cancellation at another restaurant. So upset. I really wanted to give them 6 stars but it just wasn't. The people I made reservations with were super nice. The hostess was awesome as well. The waiter was just not happy. He wasn't very attentive ( not to say he wasn't busy or lazy) just somewhat miserable. There was a lot of workers in there but they diddnt make their way to our table .. granted we had 16 ppl on Xmas eve . The apps came out good time. They were really outstanding. It gave a false promise inf the dinner to come. Baked clams, buffalo mozz and clams were really special. Unfortunatley the dinner was just not good. Lamb and filet mingon had no flavor, and the lobster ravioli just was not good ( diddnt even know there was lobster involved ). Food all around was just meh !! We just ordered over $200 worth of food from Zio Toto in Staten Island. Our family has been going to this restaurant for a while, but it's been some time since the last time we went. It's almost like they have new owners, because we've never had such a negative experience. Due to covid we ordered food to go. We drove a half hour to pick it up & ordered two different types of veal, angel hair with crab, sea bass, risotto with truffle, spaghetti carbonara, and pizza. The first issue to note is that the prices online do not reflect what they actually charge you. What the restaurant charges is anywhere from $3-$5 more per plate. If the food tasted good, I guess this wouldn't have been such an issue. The portions are small-- another issue for the pricing. The angel hair with crab had NO CRAB. NONE. We kept searching for it to no avail. The veal had no taste, over three strands of spinach. The risotto didn't even have truffle in it-- not sure why they call it truffle? The sea bass was clearly frozen and for $38, it was maybe 3oz. Pathetic! The spedini veal vitello was supposed to come with mashed potatoes and they didn't even put that in the container. We called the restaurant to explain, as none of us were able to actually eat the food since it was far from edible. There was no manager and the manager won't be back until Wednesday..(It's Sunday, BTW). The service is unacceptable, and even worse, the food tasted old and rancid. We ended up throwing it all in the garbage. Do yourself a favor and skip this one. read more

Had the absolute WORST service experience with Zio Toto Staten Island! I have dined there before, and highly recommended them to friends many times, but after this- I WILL NEVER GO BACK AND I WILL MAKE SURE EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT TYPE OF SERVICE THEY PROVIDE!!! I used their website to order a giftcard online on Dec 11. When I did not receive it via email, I contacted the restaurant to let them know. They referred me to the manager, Anna. I spoke with her briefly, explained what had happened and that it is a Christmas gift, and that I hope to get it resolved quickly and would provide any info she needed. She rudely yelled at me that 'now she will have to go back to all her PayPal transactions to see if she can find payment before she could send me anything.' I offered the transaction number, and even emailed my PayPal receipt with a copy of all the info. She told me she didn't want it. It was sent anyway. She took my name and number, and that was the last time we ever spoke (Dec 14). I sent several emails, even through PayPal, I left multiple phone messages, and even called the Brooklyn location looking for help, which I was told they could not provide. My card was charged immediately for the purchase. Yet here I am Dec 22, without a return phone call, email or giftcard, and out $100. It is the poorest customer service I have ever received, and I am so disappointed. Terrible that a place that could be one of the best in Staten Island doesn't have a care for their loyal customers. I don't care if you tried to feed it to me on a golden platter, I will never eat there or recommend it again. read more

Bravo Zio Tio Staten Island!! Came here last weekend with my fiancé. What a wonderful dining experience. We were greeted promptly upon arrival. Our waiter for the evening was very attentive to our needs. Our martinis were as "dirty" as requested! Our meals were exquisite! We ordered to start the grilled octopus and calamari, which was perfectly tender and seasoned to perfection. Then for the entree the pan seared lamb chops in a Barolo wine sauce / branzino stuffed with crabmeat in a lemon white wine sauce. Both dishes were delicious and unique in their own way. For dessert we shared a pizza Nutella that's their signature dessert and each bite melted in our mouth. Great food and excellent service with a beautiful dining room look forward to returning here. We were a party of 10 on Saturday night at 7:30. First clue something was wrong was the large dining room was empty. One waiter for the entire restaurant. We then ordered drinks. Second clue was the drinks came one at a time. Never have I seen that. After the last drink arrived waiter asked for our orders. For appetizers we ordered a variety of food. We did order 5 octopus appetizers. All 5 orders were inedible. Could barely cut with the knife, but we didn't want to create a scene. The main courses were good, nothing special. Zio Toto's earned their 5 star review and here's why: Antipasto: Amazing. The mozzarella was fresh and juicy with a nice touch with the yellow and red tomato's. The cured meat platter was just amazing. Who knew mortadella could taste so good? Their fried calamari is probably the best you could get on Staten Island as well as their stuffed clams. Pasta: I had the lobster ravioli and was surprised at how fresh it tasted. This lobster ravioli was the real deal and tasted as if it just came from the sea. Main course: Veal Valdostana. It was great. The veal chop was stuffed with mushrooms, prosciutto, and fontina cheese. The chop itself was cooked perfect and perfectly tender. Most importantly the food was hot and fresh and definitely inventive. No plain ol' Italian dishes here which also shows in their decor. The place looks like a dining room in a mansion. Elaborate ceilings, clothed lined walls, and beautiful wood work make the dining room stand out from every where else. This place was busy and for the life of me I don't know why. Service was non existent. Every course really wasn't good. We were a party of four and not one of us enjoyed the experience. Caesar salad was bottled twangy terrible dressing, shrimp dish was sitting in a pool of tasteless sauce with a pieces of canned artichokes. Pizza was ok but this restaurant isn't really a pizzeria. The espresso was the smallest 1/4 shot I've ever seen. My money is too precious to waste on dumps like this that think it's ok to serve people bad food and with really bad service. Anyway ... my wife and I were meeting another couple for diner. We arrived about 15 minutes before our friends and proceeded to enjoy some cocktails at the bar. Cleanliness and decor were spot on. Very comfortable setting. Drinks were perfect and bartender was very attentive but not over bearing. Our company arrived we had another drink and then we went to our table. I have to say the service was impeccable, our waiter obviously takes pride in his job which in todays day and age is rare. Ok on to the food. Wow... for appetizers we had baked clams , sweet n sour calamari, and Shrimp Cocktail. They were all good. My only thought was I thought the shrimp looked more like large rather then jumbo. But they were perfect as far as taste. For our entrees we had the Vittelo alla Valdostana (Stuffed veal Chop) absolutely amazing!!!! It was so tender I cut it with a fork. It came with mixed vegetables which were cooked perfectly. To end the evening I had a double Expresso short and my wife and I shared the tiramisu. This is a real review in real time. I have never left a bad review for a restaurant in my life, but I cannot stop thinking about my experience here. My date and I both have worked in the restaurant industry for 10+ years and are still processing how rude our waiter was. We've come here several times and always enjoyed the food and service. However last night was unreal. I immediately caught the energy that the waiter took one look at our table and was annoyed we got sat in his section. We look a little young, but are 26 and 30. Also we were dressed appropriately for the evening. He ignored us several times, and seemed genuinely bothered - like having a table of two young(er) people in his section was a waste of his time. We ordered several appetizers, drinks, and both got pricey entrees and dessert and the entire night I felt like this man thought we weren't good enough to be eating in his section. I understand everyone has bad nights but I watched this man give excellent service to all his other tables. The whole thing was very strange, this man treated us like a nuisance the entire night. All of our food and drinks were delicious with the expectation of my date's entree. He ordered a strip steak, and the cut of meat that was served to him was not a strip steak. It was extremely tough. We are not the type to complain or send back food or make a fuss, so he ate the sides and left the steak pretty much uneaten. The waiter didn't check on us at all until we were done eating, didn't care that my date was completely disappointed, didn't offer to put in another entree (which we would have happily paid for). My date very politely expressed he wasn't happy with the cut of meat when the waiter cleared our plates and this man scoffed at us like we were idiots. Again we've both had experience in managing restaurants and working in kitchens, so to be scoffed at was so off-putting. It was so condescending and strange. I've never had an experience like this at a restaurant, I do not know what we did wrong to upset this man. This is my favorite restaurant in the area and I try to go there At least twice a year since I can't really afford to go here that much...My parents go here At least once a month. Before I dive into this review i just wanna say before I started my career I worked in restaurants since I was a teenager and towards the end of my restaurant tenure I managed multiple restaurants and a few nightclubs so I try to never complain and usually just bite the bullet because I know how annoying and stressful restaurant life can be... With that being said that kind of makes me a little soft when it comes to me having a bad experience and wanting that experience to be rectified. So this review is partly my fault because of how wimpy I was to say something at the end. Ok, so I go out to eat yesterday at 8pm. We ordered a pizza and the baked clams and two martinis which were absolutely spot on as usual! No complaints there everything's great. Then against my better judgement I ordered the NY strip steak for 38$. What came out to me was not a NY strip. It may have been the end piece which any chef knows when ordering meat you cut that off and ground that up for burgers or meatballs. It was tough chewy and honestly looked like a sirloin/burger patty. I took 2 bites, ate the vegetables and then pushed the plate to the side. Now this is where I start to get mad...the server comes over asks if I want it wrapped I said no and he says did you not like it? Which I replied no I did not it's not a New York strip and he said oh I'm sorry and took the plate away. Our bill came and he still charged me for it!!!!!!! I was so mad and honestly upset because I paid it and felt like I was being bamboozled into paying for a steak I didn't want. I felt sad because I didn't have the balls to say anything and didn't want to embarrass my date, especially because the place was half empty on a Saturday night so they're trying to get every single dollar they can just to stay open... horrible service from the waiter and I will never go back good luck staying in business with that type of service. Again it's partly my fault for not questioning the bill but as a former restaurant manager I feel as if sometimes people don't have the guts to say something like me and when someone is having a bad experience it's up to the staff to notice it and rectify it. I never write reviews but here we gooooo. Went to Zio Toto at 8 o'clock on a Wednesday and the place was practically deserted besides 2 large parties. It was my girlfriend and I's 7 year anniversary and recommended by a friend. Drinks took about 15 minutes to come out, eggplant that comes out with bread was basically frozen, shrimp cocktail was incredibly fishy, my lamb chops were so over cooked the bones were black and broke of upon touching. (asked for medium) took about 20-30 minutes for them to come back out. Maybe catch them on a good night but Wasn't happy with the experience. Best of luck! read more

Went there with my boyfriend for our anniversary dinner... and traveled all the way from NJ... it was hands down the worst food and experience we have ever had. Service was so slow, they pretty much ignored us. The bread was stale and cold. The shrimp cocktail was not fresh. Our entrées came out and we had to send the lamb chops back because they were so well done and we ordered them medium rare. I would not recommend this place. I don't say this often but Whoa!!! Seriously one of the best meals from beginning to end on Staten Island. We started off with appetizers I had the muscles from the special which was fantastic but the mind blowing app was the Burata the buffalo Mozzarella that gave me a foodgasm. Might b the best app I've ever had. The main course continued the favor rave in my mouth. I just had my sisters Bridal Shower this past weekend here and OMG! The place its self is gorgeous and makes any event feel extravagant. Not only was the food up to par, delicious and more then enough for each table( from hot antipasto to the nutella pizza) but the service was amazing! Working with Anna made the whole planning process super easy! Hands down the BEST authentic Italian restaurant on the island. The food in New Jersey cannot compare to this place so I never mind the the drive into Staten Island just to come here. From the minute you walk in you're immediately greeted by staff they all make you feel like family even without a reservation it's never an issue they always accommodate. The waiters are excellent if you are having a hard time deciding what to order ( and believe me you will ) rest assured they will help you and you'll never be disappointed. Top picks are : Sweet & Sour Calamari, the Mela salad, the gnocchi is to die for and the Vitello Saltimbocca is hands down the best veal you'll ever eat. Gorgeous bar always good music whether it be live or Dj and the atmosphere is on point - outdoor deck is an added bonus.
