This review has taken into consideration that this business is roughly 3 weeks old and has kinks it needs to work out. So review will be sharp but scoring will be lax. So Breaking Bread has reservations, upon arrival seating was available which was good. They have a bar but not currently serving alcohol yet. They do have 4 TVs and wouldnt be a bad place to grab a beer and a slice and watch some sports. Server was friendly but seemed new to serving so I'm sure with time service will be better, not that service was bad but could be improved. When asked about the menu, he was able to recommend items he enjoys. On the house: Bread & Butter nothing special Drinks: 2 ginger ales, nothing really to comment on, small glass... Appetizers: Jumbo shrimp marinara- shrimps were definitely Jumbo, and fresh. Marinara sauce was definitely delicious. But as fresh as the shrimp was and as delicious as the sauce was, the two didn't meld together. Shrimp was kinda bland in the mouth. I would give it a 4/5. Main course: Gnocchi with creamy homemade pesto and chopped sausage - creamy Pesto was delicious, plenty of flavor but not overpowering. Gnocchi was nothing too special, sausage is the same. Portion of the sausage wasn't too ideal. But with how heavy the creamy sauce and gnocchi was, im not really complaining. Portion-wise in total, definitely enough for 1 person. 4/5 (Originally ordered the NY Shell Steak with sautéed broccoli rabe and onion frizzles, but was told they were sold out) Main course 2: Filet of sole garlic, lemon, butter sauce topped with jumbo lump crabmeat served with sautéed escarole and roasted potatoes. The fish was good! Flavorful and wasnt fishy. Texture didnt feel it was freezer burned so good start with fish, the sautéed escarole was my favorite part of the course, had a nice kick to it. So eaters beware. Definitely the best course of the 2. Giving this a 5/5. Dessert: Black Out chocolate cake - what can I say? Its chocolate cake. Its not fluffy but its not brownie. The cake was soft and with a bit of the whip-cream it was truly a delight! 5/5 So now things I noticed. Place got busy and the staff got swamped and flustered, especially when all tables were filled. Wife and myself had 2 glasses of ginger ale to start and with 2 refills and i got 1 more glass of water before dessert. We had a total of 5 glasses just sitting on our table. And I noticed the same goes for tables around us. Tables are small but with 3 extra glasses just sitting there. It did take up quite a bit of room. Secondly, out of those 5 glasses, 2 of them were cracked that we noticed at the end of dinner. Again due to staff being swamped, it took a while for me to get a staff's attention for the check, get the check and pay the bill. Which I guess in the long run, it would affect table turnover rate. But as I mentioned at the beginning, its a new business and will require time. I would recommend this place. I see other tables bring their kids and order a pie of pizza. So definitely will be back to try their pizza! read more

This is a pizza restaurant. no frills, staff is nice you come here for a quick bite to eat during the week. I find them a bit over priced but the food is good and tasty. the place is clean and nice. they have a bunch of tvs and ample tables to sit and watch the game . Stopped in for a quick bite to eat . We were seated quickly with menus given right away in a very small eatery. The waiter was not attentive to our order we had to tell him multiple times. Left without taking our orders. Placed the order took a long time for 2 eggplant Parms to come out . Did not check on the table. Could not get him to give us the bill. Ended up going to the bar asking for take out containers to wrap our food and to get the bill. Came from the other side of Staten to try this place out. Heard good things which were all true. Had to start we the margarita pizza. Perfect crust and amazing sauce. Fried calamari with hot cherry peppers and garlic sauce. Never had anything like it. Calamari was cooked perfectly. The sauce was amazing not overly spicy. I would def order that again. First we saw one of the food service workers smoking out front, then a woman worker was yelling at a delivery boy. The wait staff is never pleasant but if food was good that would be acceptable. Veal was chewy and tough. Most of it was spit out and inedible. We weren't asked if we wanted pasta or vegetable. Just given pasta. I had a salad first then told the waiter after that I would order my entree. Wasn't sure what I wanted. I tried to put in an entree order at 9:15 (this was a Friday night) and was told it was too late!!! The kitchen was closed. Maybe a heads up from the waiter. We order pizza from here all the time and love it. I decided to take a chance on their catering menu. NEVER again. I'm fairly certain the food was either old or made a while ago and frozen. The meat was grey and the chicken was tough, overcooked and kind of flavorless. You'd think chicken parm is a staple dish and easy enough for an Italian restaurant to get right. Ooof! Very nice little place in a south shore strip mall. Nice bright modern decor with about a half dozen large TVs to watch games etc while you eat. We were a party of 10 and were seated and tended to immediately. Drinks including my old fashion, red and white wines and beer were all delicious and served promptly. Apps including beef spedini, fried calamari, rice ball parmigiana were also very good. My veal parmigiana was so tender in a delicious sauce. The table enjoyed various dishes such as filet of sole with crab meat, chicken parmigiana, veal marsala, and a baked chicken dish. Service was knowledgeable and very attentive. The food is good and the portions plentiful. Fra Diavolo sauce is on the mild side even though the menu states spicy. Scungilli over linguini was mostly linguini. Baked clams were very fresh and tasty but had too much bread crumbs for my liking. You tasted more crumbs than clams. The mussels appetizer was delicious. The service was good. I've never heard of Breaking Bread and it took me until halfway through my meal to realize it's a pun on Breaking Bad. I think. Anyways! We went for my mom in-law's birthday, she who is a very timid woman, please remember this. It was fairly busy, so we waited for about twenty minutes before being sat by whom I believe is the owner. It seems like the staff are still finding their footing; despite being very pleasant and I'm sure overworked, we hadn't received any bread (other tables had), and we waited for several minutes for our menus. We ordered appetizers, drinks, and meals, but had to request to receive the drinks we ordered a few times. The wait staff was certainly polite though, and quickly responded to our requests. Food-wise, it was very flavorful! We had stuffed artichokes which I usually only dabble with, but it was commendable. I had the chicken parm with spaghetti, which I very much enjoyed. Other meals were spoken highly of. I'll give 'em that, I can tell why they were so busy. BUT THE MAJOR KEY HERE was, we had mentioned to the waiter that we had a birthday at our table and requested a piece of cheesecake (which was also very good!) They arrived to our table with a candle on it, began to sing, and our waiter was absolutely BELTING IT OUT. He had SUCH a great voice, held the last note, and had the entire restaurant in applause. Brooklyn slice and regular slice pizza is amongst the best I ever had. The chicken Caesar salad could not be fresher or better. Every dish on every table looked fabulous. Restaurant is spotless. Four stars instead of five, the food didn't come to the table at the same time, and that shouldn't happen. The place is very small and loud.
