A shout-out to the owners of Breaking Bread for putting out serously impressive food that continuiously belies its primary reputation as a "pizza place"... Now, this really shouldn't be a complete surprise being they're affiliated with the Island's long-amazing "Mr. Pizza" family of restaurants. Yet, it's always extra-impressive when a so-called "pizza" establishment manages to put out other dishes like pasta and seafood that meet - and often exceed - the quality and execution of many so-called "fancier" or "white-tablecloth" restaurants... Case in point - last night - along with their endlessly exceptional shrimp parm with its incredibly thick and rich sauce with just the right balance of sweet, saltiness and spice - we tried their filet of sole entree for the first time, and it will now officially be a repeat-order item... The dish consists of a HUGE piece of perfectly-cooked sole topped with a generous amount of lump crabmeat in a garlicky (lots of wonderful)y thin slices of prefectly roasted garlic!) lemon-butter sauce with a side of sauteed escarole and full-length seasoned baked potato wedges... It was an all-around home run, to say the least... The sole fillet itself was a large and surprisingly thick piece coming from what is a very flat fish. It was perfectly cooked - super-moist and flaky - and the sweet crabmeat that topped it was the real-deal and equally impressive (I can instantly tell real crabmeat from the fake red imitation crap some restaurants try to pass off as "crab"). The sauce was perfect - lemony, buttery and wonderfully garlicky, with just the right amount of salt... These folks really KNOW how to properly seasoning food... The escarole was perfectly sautéed and also had plenty of excellent roasted garlic and olive oil (so good that we will definitely order their escarole pizza in the near future). The potato wedges were also well baked, perfectly seasoned and we'd order them on their own as a side... Just an all-around impressive dish were everything is impressive and goes perfectly together... My wife is an absolutely fabulous cook and one of the toughest folks to impress. After helping me devour every last morsel, said she wants to order it again next time as her main dish, which tells you how well-executed this dish was, along with everything else we usually order from them. Speaking of those other items, their white pie with sautéed spinach is another must-try if you're in a white-pie mood... In keeping with their elevated execution, they don't just throw some random spinach leaves on a white pizza. The spinach is first sauteed in the same excellent way as the escarole, with salt, pepper, and LOTS of garlic and good olive oil, making an already-excellent white pie a next-level effort. All told, Breaking Bread is a must-try when you want high-end food on a takeout kind of night! read more

Had the chicken Marsala lunch special and although the sauce was delicious, the actual chicken fell short in both quality and quantity. It came with a single piece of very thin and overcooked chicken breast (as evident in the photo), which was tough and was the size of an average palm. Really wanted to love it but unfortunately it fell short. Can't say much about their other selections, but hopefully they will be better than the chicken marsala! Thank you for reading and best of luck! (: read more

No Veal, service was terrible one waiter for 10 tables , baked clams were good and fried calamari. Charged me extra 10 dollars for using a debit card . Ridiculous prices . Should've stuck with my regular place Villa Monte on Richmond ave. the South shore can keep breaking Bread. read more

Incredibly overly hot inside the restaurant. The food was just ok. Extremely overpriced for what they're serving. Pizza was good. Would only get pizza from here. read more

Stopped in for a quick bite to eat . We were seated quickly with menus given right away in a very small eatery. The waiter was not attentive to our order we had to tell him multiple times. Left without taking our orders. Placed the order took a long time for 2 eggplant Parms to come out . Did not check on the table. Could not get him to give us the bill. Ended up going to the bar asking for take out containers to wrap our food and to get the bill. Place is to small not to be attentive to tables Definitely will not return to this establishment. 1 and done . read more

First we saw one of the food service workers smoking out front, then a woman worker was yelling at a delivery boy. The wait staff is never pleasant but if food was good that would be acceptable. Veal was chewy and tough. Most of it was spit out and inedible. We weren't asked if we wanted pasta or vegetable. Just given pasta. I had a salad first then told the waiter after that I would order my entree. Wasn't sure what I wanted. I tried to put in an entree order at 9:15 (this was a Friday night) and was told it was too late!!! The kitchen was closed. Maybe a heads up from the waiter. He knew I was waiting till after my appetizer. I left hungry. Overall it was a terrible $85.00 experience. There are pizzeria restaurants on every corner. Don't waste your $ here. read more

Our visit to Breaking Bread restaurant was wonderful. The food was plentiful and delicious. We started off with fresh baked clams ( Oreganata) and other authentic Italian appetizers. Loved the many varieties of pizza they serve. The Service was great and we would definitely come back again. read more

Really good food, definitely going back when I can. Not to big not to small. The heat was on & off again, but that's no big deal.

Best bread around comes from Essex county . Very friendly staff and reasonable prices

So ivebeen waiting to try this place with high expectations..Food is good..wine list good for the size of the restaurant...problem is. .... server Luis has some kind of attitude and was not too informed on the drink list or food..we ordered cocktails and 2 apps and told him we would order our entrees after digging in to our apps...that was the last i saw him...i wanted more drinks and entrees but he was too busy cleaning and setting up tables with no one there...there are only 4 specialty cocktails on the list and when i ordered something other that that. It was horrible..and also $17...so basically you shorted your owner 2 entrees that were not ordered because you chose to ignore us...maybe need more training..and more bar experience... But the food we had WAS good...the 3 stars was generous...would love to have given it 5 stars...but it fell short... read more

5 STARS!!! This was our first time here and we all enjoyed our food so much! From the appetizers , entrees and desserts, everything tasted amazing! All the staff was so friendly too! Definitely will be coming back here often! Thank you for a wonderful dining experience! read more

We order pizza from here all the time and love it. I decided to take a chance on their catering menu. NEVER again. I'm fairly certain the food was either old or made a while ago and frozen. The meat was grey and the chicken was tough, overcooked and kind of flavorless. You'd think chicken parm is a staple dish and easy enough for an Italian restaurant to get right. Ooof! Over priced and not worth it at all. We'll be sticking to the pizza. read more

I don't know what happened to this place it used to be somewhat good I. Guess the owner's got too rich And started slacking off on there restaurant. First for the price they charge you. They should be renowned chefs making my dinner. Instead, the food now tastes like the waiters are cooking, my dinner. The place is called breaking bread. And you have to ask for bread for the table (come on man) The service sucks. They got 3 guys running 12 tables. They look like they need roller skates to to serve Their attitudes stinks meanwhile the oners are Cruising in Lamborghinis with the prices they charge read more

Very nice little place in a south shore strip mall. Nice bright modern decor with about a half dozen large TVs to watch games etc while you eat. We were a party of 10 and were seated and tended to immediately. Drinks including my old fashion, red and white wines and beer were all delicious and served promptly. Apps including beef spedini, fried calamari, rice ball parmigiana were also very good. My veal parmigiana was so tender in a delicious sauce. The table enjoyed various dishes such as filet of sole with crab meat, chicken parmigiana, veal marsala, and a baked chicken dish. Service was knowledgeable and very attentive. A great addition to the community. Wifey and I will be back to sit at the bar and enjoy some apps and drinks soon. read more

Great food and service. The steak sandwich and tortellini carbonara are delicious. I highly recommend this place.

The food is good and the portions plentiful. Fra Diavolo sauce is on the mild side even though the menu states spicy. Scungilli over linguini was mostly linguini. Baked clams were very fresh and tasty but had too much bread crumbs for my liking. You tasted more crumbs than clams. The mussels appetizer was delicious. The service was good. The restaurant is small and very loud. The bar seems like a hangout with many regulars. Decent neighborhood place. read more

I've never heard of Breaking Bread and it took me until halfway through my meal to realize it's a pun on Breaking Bad. I think. Anyways! We went for my mom in-law's birthday, she who is a very timid woman, please remember this. It was fairly busy, so we waited for about twenty minutes before being sat by whom I believe is the owner. It seems like the staff are still finding their footing; despite being very pleasant and I'm sure overworked, we hadn't received any bread (other tables had), and we waited for several minutes for our menus. We ordered appetizers, drinks, and meals, but had to request to receive the drinks we ordered a few times. The wait staff was certainly polite though, and quickly responded to our requests. Food-wise, it was very flavorful! We had stuffed artichokes which I usually only dabble with, but it was commendable. I had the chicken parm with spaghetti, which I very much enjoyed. Other meals were spoken highly of. I'll give 'em that, I can tell why they were so busy. BUT THE MAJOR KEY HERE was, we had mentioned to the waiter that we had a birthday at our table and requested a piece of cheesecake (which was also very good!) They arrived to our table with a candle on it, began to sing, and our waiter was absolutely BELTING IT OUT. He had SUCH a great voice, held the last note, and had the entire restaurant in applause. Much to the embarrassment to my aforementioned shy mom in-law. Couldn't ask for better. I wonder how it is during lunch hours, because the food was pretty great, and I'm sure the wait staff will get into their groove. But maybe consider it for your birthday! Ask for Luis. read more

Entered this establishment and unfortunately had come in direct contact with a dark haired woman. She was nasty ,miserable and could not be bothered when I asked her a question. She made me feel very uncomfortable.and not accommodating.Furthermore, the pizza was out of this world and I mean in a BAD way .SHE should not be working closely with the public!!! read more

This review has taken into consideration that this business is roughly 3 weeks old and has kinks it needs to work out. So review will be sharp but scoring will be lax. So Breaking Bread has reservations, upon arrival seating was available which was good. They have a bar but not currently serving alcohol yet. They do have 4 TVs and wouldnt be a bad place to grab a beer and a slice and watch some sports. Server was friendly but seemed new to serving so I'm sure with time service will be better, not that service was bad but could be improved. When asked about the menu, he was able to recommend items he enjoys. On the house: Bread & Butter nothing special Drinks: 2 ginger ales, nothing really to comment on, small glass... Appetizers: Jumbo shrimp marinara- shrimps were definitely Jumbo, and fresh. Marinara sauce was definitely delicious. But as fresh as the shrimp was and as delicious as the sauce was, the two didn't meld together. Shrimp was kinda bland in the mouth. I would give it a 4/5. Main course: Gnocchi with creamy homemade pesto and chopped sausage - creamy Pesto was delicious, plenty of flavor but not overpowering. Gnocchi was nothing too special, sausage is the same. Portion of the sausage wasn't too ideal. But with how heavy the creamy sauce and gnocchi was, im not really complaining. Portion-wise in total, definitely enough for 1 person. 4/5 (Originally ordered the NY Shell Steak with sautéed broccoli rabe and onion frizzles, but was told they were sold out) Main course 2: Filet of sole garlic, lemon, butter sauce topped with jumbo lump crabmeat served with sautéed escarole and roasted potatoes. The fish was good! Flavorful and wasnt fishy. Texture didnt feel it was freezer burned so good start with fish, the sautéed escarole was my favorite part of the course, had a nice kick to it. So eaters beware. Definitely the best course of the 2. Giving this a 5/5. Dessert: Black Out chocolate cake - what can I say? Its chocolate cake. Its not fluffy but its not brownie. The cake was soft and with a bit of the whip-cream it was truly a delight! 5/5 So now things I noticed. Place got busy and the staff got swamped and flustered, especially when all tables were filled. Wife and myself had 2 glasses of ginger ale to start and with 2 refills and i got 1 more glass of water before dessert. We had a total of 5 glasses just sitting on our table. And I noticed the same goes for tables around us. Tables are small but with 3 extra glasses just sitting there. It did take up quite a bit of room. Secondly, out of those 5 glasses, 2 of them were cracked that we noticed at the end of dinner. Again due to staff being swamped, it took a while for me to get a staff's attention for the check, get the check and pay the bill. Which I guess in the long run, it would affect table turnover rate. But as I mentioned at the beginning, its a new business and will require time. I would recommend this place. I see other tables bring their kids and order a pie of pizza. So definitely will be back to try their pizza! read more

What more can I say than I cannot wait to break bread again ! Even when I order takeout or delivery the food is a 10 !

Really enjoyed their food. We had a chicken parm hero, and two personal pizzas, and omg their cheesecake is amazing. Honestly I think it's the best cheesecake I've had. The bread is delicious too. I wish I had pictures to post but I forgot lol. Yummy read more

Brooklyn slice and regular slice pizza is amongst the best I ever had. The chicken Caesar salad could not be fresher or better. Every dish on every table looked fabulous. Restaurant is spotless. Four stars instead of five, the food didn't come to the table at the same time, and that shouldn't happen. The place is very small and loud. We'll definitely be back, but probably for takeout. read more
