I have been here multiple times with my family, and every visit has been outstanding. The service is always top-notch, and the food is fresh and delicious. A special thank you to Zarina today, who took the time to communicate with us, accommodate our preferences, and answer all of our questions professionally and warmly. Leu (Manager?) also stopped by our table to make sure everything was going well during our dining experience which was nice. Our server Zarina's attentiveness and service made our meal more enjoyable and lived up to the high standard we have come to expectations today. Thank you!! The prices are very reasonable for the quality and value you get. We ordered the polenta, beet salad, chicken tagine, pasta, and NY strip steak, and they were all equally excellent--we were so hungry that I forgot to take pics... For dessert, we had the tiramisu and crème brûlée. Highly recommend. They were the perfect (not too overtly sweet which was better) way to end the meal!

Leu was fantastic! He really took care of us and keeping us on track due to the kitchen closing really soon. He made sure that we were all feeling comfortable. I enjoyed the squash blossoms and the cheese was delicious with it. As well the ciabatta and olive oil YUM! I was so stuffed that I can only eat some of it but they cooked it as I requested. Zarina is charming and remembers orders really well. She gave me recommendations

How great it is to dine at a restaurant inside one of the Historic Hotels of America. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Beautiful bar & tastefully decorated dining area in a centrally located hotel in downtown Berkeley.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The breakfast & dinner are both delicious. Love the low abv & non alcoholic drink options. The ice cream & bread pudding were so delicious. Overall food was delicious but some things to note: The Brussel sprouts were a tad over charred. The burger price is the same even without the meat patty, would have loved a veggie patty option. There were too few chocolate chips in the chocolate chip pancakes. Guests were mostly older solo travelers, college students meeting up with their parents, a young group of friends & a date. Could not find a current bar, restaurant or room service menu online

Let's just say that the savory deliciousness of the duck confit gnocchi combined with our bartender Marlon's excellent welcoming vibes made for a wonderful date for me and my husband. We will definitely return!

The wings were amazing, & Marlon was amazing as well. Offered the greatest option & makes wonderful drinks! Highly recommend coming here when he's here, makes you feel very welcomed !!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance and breakfast is the best![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Very welcoming and comfortable seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had 3 breakfasts while staying at the hotel and a dinner. For breakfasts, we had the oatmeal, latte's, bacon, waffles, berry fruit cup (super fresh) and croissant. No complaints with the breakfast - all soo good! Dinner - we had the strip steak and the burger. Burger was overcooked and tasted charred. We had the bread pudding for dessert and that made up for the overcooked burger taste. Service was pretty slow for dinner.

Best hotel bar I've ever been in. Marlon took good care of me and mine. Zino is a wonderful gem. The fries are secretly good. Don't ruin a good thing by telling everyone you know to come up here.

This is strictly a brunch review for Zino because I haven't had dinner here for a while. For starters, they have a rather ample brunch menu. Lots of items from sweet to savory for breakfast and plenty of lunch items as well. There are egg options galore, soups, salads, wraps, a burger and pizzettas, but we went for the sweet breakfast delights. My mom had the pancakes with fresh berries, which she enjoyed. I had the French toast, also with fresh berries, plus citrus butter, and it was absolutely excellent. Delicious maple syrup. The coffee is pretty good too. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Lots of seating. Hotel restaurant vibes and that's OK.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Because the long oval bar is spacious enough to allow people to do their own thing. So you could chat or watch a football game on the big screens if you'd like.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are sections of the dining room that are far enough away from the TVs that you wouldn't notice them.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's great light offered by the window seating by day.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The street outside is pretty quiet by Knight.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

This is one of our go to places when we go to Berkeley, which is quite often. Really great food, great location, particularly great staff like Zarina and Leu. The steak and potatoes/carrots were really good.

If you didn't know, know ya…read moreknow...located essentially across the way from CAL in Berkeley, East Bay Spice to me is a hidden gem filled with such nostalgic memories shared with friends over the years. They closed for a time, and now seem to be thriving again! Heading to the Greek for a weekend show, we wanted to pop in somewhere close-by. We cozied up to bar seating, and enjoy a couple of martinis featuring local gin and vodka, and ordered some food to share: the Original Tikka Masala Flatbread (we had to finally try it!), and the Sev Puri Chaat (first time trying this ever!). Service was amazing, and if I could write this review purely on the originality and creativity of the menus, I would (see pics!) The menus were CD cases (remember those, ha) with a fun take on 'Spice Girls', titled 'East Bay Spice Company'. For Spice Girls fans, you will recognize what album this was derived from. Each page of the cd book was a different part of the menu, including drinks, happy hour (from 2-6pm), and food. So fun, and unlike anything I've ever seen before. The food was so fresh and delicious. Loved the pomegranate seeds and lightness from the Sev Puri Chaat, bite size garbanzo bean/potato goodness! And standing O for that flatbread..pro-tip: get a side of the Tikka Masala sauce to pour on top. Absolutely amazing. I'm a huge fan of Tikka Masala, and having that sauce be a base for a pizza...come on!! We did chicken as the protein. Overall, so happy to return and have East Bay Spice back apart of the Berkeley rotation again. Small, dimly-lit, cool digs. Also check out their sister spots: Tap in Lounge and Tipsea in Berk, Blue Rabbit Bar off San Pablo, and Lemon Drop in Alameda.

The presentation was impeccable, and the sauce was rich, creamy, and full of flavor. The chicken seemed like a leaner cut, possibly breast, but it was still tender and not overcooked. I thoroughly enjoyed this plate and would 100% come back to order it again. My husband ordered the flatbread, though I can't remember the exact name, and it was surprisingly delicious as well. It tasted almost like a pizza version of the chicken tikka masala, making it a great shareable option if you're looking to snack, chat, and enjoy cocktails. Speaking of cocktails, the bartenders seemed very knowledgeable and helped me choose a drink based on my preferred spirit and cocktail style. I ended up with the Skeleton Key, which was strong, but still paired well with the meal. I'd happily come back to try more cocktails and, of course, order that chicken tikka masala again.

There are some negative reviews here about rude, more accurately, unresponsive bartenders, and I don't think they get what this place is all about. If you want a chatty, friendly bartender, go to an Irish pub. This place is all about creating unique concoctions in volume. Having said that, I'll tell you a story. In March 2019, I was with a chatty bartender here, since it was a quiet night. I was looking at the vast array of bottles, and noticed something that said "Buffalo Trace" but looked different from their usual bottle. I asked her what it was, and she didn't know. It had about three fingers left at the bottom, so she looked at me mischievously and said, "wanna finish it with me?" So we did. Turns out, that 375 ml bottle was worth about $300. It was one of their experimental batches, made with oats in 2002. I found a bottle online in England and got it shipped here. Best whiskey I've ever had.
