    Trio of Spreads

What a beautiful space and place to celebrate another year around the sun. With a parking garage across the street, you may think this is just a hotel, but Zino is Hotel Shattuck's best kept secret. Service was attentive and the menu was divine for lunch serving Mediterranean fare. Starting with the Trio of Spreads (Muhammara, Labneh, Charred Eggplant & Garbanzo) and fresh/warm pita to dip. Delicious! The Heirloom Tomato & Peach Salad, Little Gem Salad, and the Mediterranean Flatbread were our mains and every bite was so fresh and left me wanting to try more of the menu. Presentation, flavor, and quality were all there. Dessert was something I actually never had ~ chocolate crème brûlée..perfection! Would love to come back for weekend brunch, happy hour, or even dinner because the bar is incredible and placed in the center of restaurant just waiting for a good time! Well done, chef! We will be back.

    Chicken Scallopini!

The ambience, hospitality from the staff and the delicious appetizer, entree and dessert made the entire dinner experience wonderful for two consecutive evenings. Don't forget to pair with a glass of wine. We enjoyed an appetizer first, "Road to Morocco". Very tasty and enough for two. We love hummus! Our three favorite entrees were the Risotto, Salmon & Chicken Scaloppini. We all ended up sharing each other's dishes. Even feeling full, Leu, our server described the bread pudding/homemade that we couldn't resist. Glad we did because the dessert was worth every bite! Ended our evening with a smile!

Celebrated my nephew's high school graduation last month. My sister picked the spot and it was a good spot. It is a classy-looking joint in a hotel. I'll skip to the chase: everything we ordered was good. It was first time so I let others drive. No problem there because it was a fun ride. Our server was attentive and helpful--a plus with my family. We tend to take a long time ordering and ask a lot of questions. He was patient and knowledgeable. He also advised us our order was more than enough to feed our hungry party of seven, even though it didn't seem like it. He was correct. Okay, now for your viewing pleasure.

Supposed to be a Vegetable Omelette

Never in my life have I had a vegetable omelette like this! I've dined all over the country and internationally, but this experience was disappointing. First off, the waitress seemed stressed, incompetent and unhelpful. After waiting over 40 minutes for the food, I had to ask about the delay, only to be told there was a mix-up, and they were trying to make it as quickly as possible. Not once did the waitress apologize for the mistake. Instead, another woman, who appeared to be in charge, offered an apology. When the omelette finally arrived, I was shocked. It looked like a stinking mess, veggie omelette looked like vomit! The avocado toast was just cold toast with sliced avocado and some greens thrown on top - no effort at all. Additionally, there was no salt or pepper on the table, and no sauces were provided. We had to ask for hot sauce, and the ketchup arrived just as I was finishing my potatoes. I didn't even touch the omelette, and the hostess was kind enough not to charge me for the inedible meal. Despite the issues, I left no tip because the service and food quality were far below expectations. It's a shame, as this place has potential, but I won't be returning anytime soon.AVOID! I dined at La Note near by for brunch and that is where you need to eat! Stay away from this one! Never in my life have I had a vegetable omelette like this! Thanksgiving Buffet Menu 2022
    Victoria W.

My friend and I were relieved and overjoyed to find a relatively close spot to where I had been staying over the holiday weekend to dine on Thanksgiving night. I was especially surprised to see that ZINO is located inside of Hotel Shattuck, a quaint Downtown Berkeley hotel with much character that transports you to another period of time, but after arriving and seeing the long line up at 6PM for the buffet dinner - I quickly understood why I had not noticed ZINO before. It seems that the restaurant is combined with the Hotel Shattuck bar area, which is easy to spot to the right, upon entering the front door. The buffet itself was served in the Crystal Ball Room, all the way in the back past the regular bar seating area. ZINO offered us poor Thanksgiving stragglers without family yet still wanted a traditional Thanksgiving meal a place to dine. I had made reservations for the two of us at 6 PM, and we arrived by 5:55. We were not brought to our table by the host (mandatory to wait until seated by the staff) until about 6:10, which all things considered like dining on a holiday with loads of people in front of us, I did not think was a bad wait time. What was disappointing to me was the lack of service at the tables as it was hard to flag waiters down for drinks or for the check as well as the disappointing spread at prime dinner time (6:15 PM) on the buffet. Most of the food was lukewarm at best, and cold at worst. The most disappointing aspect of the dinner was that the staff did not refill a lot of the sauces like the gravy or cranberry sauce by the turkey and hot plates. Despite the lack of warmth in the food, the flavor was all there. The turkey was a bit more dry than I would have liked, but with all of the other shortcomings, I was just glad I scrounged up a handful of turkey slices with some flavorful stuff to make up for the lack of gravy and appropriate sauces. It's bizarre that the buffet was set to wrap up and end at 7 PM, which is still considered prime dinner time in most cities and countries, but perhaps they wanted the staff to go home as early as possible to celebrate with their loved ones Regardless of the optimistic speculation, the service and experience were fairly subpar, especially for $69 per person for the buffet that night. It might have been the closest and most inexpensive dining option for us, but if I had my car, I would have gladly driven out of the Bay to experience a heartier and hotter plate of Thanksgiving food. In addition to the entire experience as described above, as a recently immunocompromised individual, I did not feel super comfortable with how they set up the buffet so openly (no glass or sneeze guards, no masked bartenders or servers, etc). There were definitely guests in questionable health sneezing at their tables or with constant, productive (aka wet) coughs in the buffet line for the scant amounts of food...... I am wondering if I caught my most recent respiratory bug from this event at ZINO. I definitely am not returning for Thanksgiving dinner or any kind of buffet.

Lovely venue surprisingly quiet. Food and service incredible! Only reason for 4 stars is that we went during time when number of study groups occupied multiple tables. Risk of being so close to campus.

Came here after my daughter's graduation. The interior is so elegant and spacious. Service was great and friendly. There was a live music for jazzy vibes. The beef rib eye was the star of the show! 5/5 Highly recommend. We also got the whole fish and lamb chops which were both good. 4/5 Overall great place!

The restaurant is fairly small with probably about a half a dozen tables, etc. The owner was very polite, and thankfully very patient with us for a friends lunch. We originally had plans for another restaurant, but this location, etc. worked out. Everyone spent quite a bit of time catching up, and we were made to feel at home. I ordered a side of fries for a shareable at the table. I found the fries to be very underwhelming and needed more seasoning and considering that it's seven dollars for a side of fries the serving was pretty mediocre. I ordered the lamb/beef gyro plate. The side salad was very fresh and had a light vinaigrette dressing. I would have liked for the dressing to be more of an actual vinaigrette flavor. The rice was light and fluffy, but again, lacked seasoning/flavor. The side of yogurt sauce, was tasty, but did not hit the spot. Why? Because it really lacked the flavors. Notice a theme? I will say, the meat was tender, and it had a really nice flavor to it. It was delicious enough that it was very difficult to differentiate between a lamb flavor versus a beef flavor. It all tasted good together. The soft drinks are rather pricey. It was around $3.50 for a bottled Coke. Yikes! When we were done with our meal, we were served complementary hot tea. It was a nice touch.

We had ourselves an early dinner around 3 PM and he said the restaurant had just cleared out. Apparently they were packed for lunch!! I should've taken a picture of the items we ordered for the appetizer since it was a three portion combo plate, but the pictures are below! My wife's 70th birthday happened at the end of January, 2026…read more We have eaten at Troy many times and always enjoyed the entire experience, so she decided to investigate Troy's catering options so there would be meat and vegetables options to suit all our guests' preferences, with the obvious bonus that all the choices would be equally appealing because Mediterranean food is awesome! Husam was our main contact and assisted us with making our choices, and Iris was very helpful in ensuring that our pickup time was adjusted to fit the busy schedule that we had on the morning of the party. She also confirmed our request for extra Red Chili and Jalapeno Garlic sauce. For those curious, the Red Chili sauce is the milder of the two, but both are savory and great on almost anything! Here is what we ordered, which was anticipated to feed 40 guests: 1 Full Tray of Moussaka 1 Full Tray of Pastitsio 2 Combo Appetizer Trays 1 Chicken Souvlaki 1 Beef Souvlaki 1 Lamb Souvlaki It was an immense amount of food, and it was all DELICIOUS. The souvlaki disappeared first, and both full trays of the Moussaka and Pastitsio received significant dents! The appetizer trays had large falafel balls that were thankfully cut in half, dolmas, a mountain of pita bread, and multiple pint containers, two each of hummus, baba ganoush, tzatziki, and the Red Chili and Jalapeno Garlic sauce. The pickup from Troy was a breeze, and we absolutely lucked out by getting a parking spot directly in front of the restaurant on Solano, which anyone who lives locally will tell you is no small feat on a Saturday morning! Husam kindly helped me carry everything out to our car. My one suggestion to anyone who is ordering catering, especially if you get a half or full tray of either the Moussaka and/or Pastitsio, bring a baking sheet to support each tray. While the trays are made from thick aluminum, the weight will make the bottom sag a little, and it will likely be too hot to support with your bare hands. All our guests raved about all the food, and we are still happily enjoying leftovers of everything for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a week and after! Husam, thank you and Iris SO much for all your help! We are deeply grateful, and we look forward to seeing both of you again! "Zoi mas!"

The guy behind the counter was super friendly and offered us a sample of one of the flavors to try which I thought was a nice gesture.
