When I asked Erica for my tab, she brought over my check and told me that because I was paying with a card, I had to go to the bar to use the machine, even though the device is designed to be portable (taken to a table for the patron to pay the bill). The food is way overpriced for frozen stuff that I could make at home, the drinks are not fresh and made properly, and the guest should not have to go to the bar to settle the bill. What really kills me is that there is a photo of John Taffer from Bar Rescue hanging on the wall with the owner of this establishment, but quite obviously, the "owner" just doesn't care about the quality of products being delivered to his guests, nor guest hospitality. We were promptly seated by a pleasant hostess, and greeted by our waiter Hunter (who couldn't have been nicer). The atmosphere is exactly what you might expect: family-friendly, BUSY, and loud in the best way with the sounds of folks having a good time and great food. Speaking of the food, OMG! I heard the onion rings were off the chart, and they are: giant crispy rings with soft onions, and a breading that holds the ring together but is crunchy, light and amazing. Easily the best rings I've ever had. We ordered delicious burgers which were cooked perfectly, and totally balanced with veg and condiments. It really was a perfect burger. The tots were dusted with cheese and rosemary powder. Incredible. It provides a great respite from the maddening pace of the three cafeterias at the resort, which can become stuffed with people and getting a seat is like winning Power Ball. After the Pandemic, Mount Sunapee instituted a Maître d' concept instead of a sit-yourself service. That has worked quite well and avoids rude people hijacking tables the entire day for a few people as it occurs in the rest of the resort. Service is quick and the food is more varied and way better than the cafeterias. As well, the enormous bar lends a fun ambiance to the place with lively conversations throughout the day. Goosefeathers also has a gigantic outdoor area with full view of the slopes. Only drawback to the place is the schedule. It closes too early, usually at the end of the ski day. No genuine Après Ski to be had. If you want to do that, the Shanty is right outside the access road in Newbury.
