    Beer is great, team.... Eh.
    Sydney R.

I really enjoyed this restaurant. We were staying local and there really aren't a lot of options if you don't want to venture far. (Far for my husband and I is anything past a 5 mile radius.) we got in at about 6 on a Friday and we're seated immediately. The interior is cozy and the outside tables have little fires for heaters. The music is a reasonable level. Our waitress was extremely friendly and fast! Which is always a bonus for me because I usually order quickly. I always preview the menu before I go somewhere, it adds the excitement and I don't like surprises. Now let's get down to the food situation. I ordered the poutine and the bone in wings. My husband ordered the fish and chips. The poutine was delicious. The cheese curds melt into clumps which if you're a visual eater is eh.... But I don't discriminate so I feel cheese is cheese. Overall delicious. My wings came out hot and cooked throughly. They were very crispy and crunched when I bit in. Exactly how wings should be. They were served with a generous portion of ranch. My husband got the fish and chips. It was one long piece of haddock that was deep fried. The haddock was seasoned well and again, crispy to bite into. They have a great selection of local beers. Now for the disappointing part.... Your beer will be served in a Patriots glass and coming from FL and being a Bucs fan, this just wasn't acceptable. However, beer is beer so we stuck it out and sacrificed our team for the love of alcohol.

Quad Chicken Tenders and side winder fries. Awesome

Small place with good service. Very Scottish with interesting decor. The chicken salad with corn I…read moregot on my garden salad was tasty and definitely interesting. Hubby reported his roast beef sandwich was great although the roast beef looked overcooked to me. What was dubious, however, were the French fries. They had a sort of mealy texture and a very odd taste--I thought they used coconut oil to fry but hubby thinks they coated them with baking soda, then fried. Either way I wasn't a fan.

The inside is charming and has that old wooden bar smell that I like. This would be a great place to grab a drink on a cold winter day. Very Scottish, lol. We were seated immediately for our 6:30 dinner reservation. We each ordered appetizers, which took nearly 45 minutes to arrive, even the cup of soup. Mozzarella sticks were nothing special, the cheddar tomato soup was really tasty. My mother in law loved the cock-a-leekie soup, and my father in law liked his scotch egg. It took another 20-25 minutes for our entrees to arrive. For a restaurant that closes at 8 pm, it was surprising at how long the food took to come out. They must have a very small kitchen. Everyone in our group liked their meal. My "loaded vegetarian baked potato" was just a full cup of sour cream and cheese on top of a potato with lukewarm broccoli on the side. A bit disappointing, with there were at least chives or seasoning. Basically nothing else vegetarian on the menu so this was what I was stuck with. Desserts were good, especially the sticky toffee pudding. I would call this place a step above average in the area, but service leaves a lot to be desired.

Luckily, we didn't have reservations on a busy Friday night and scored a seat downstairs near the fireplace. Parking was a bit tight, but we managed to find a spot close by. The interior was beautifully decorated with string lights and barn wood beams, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere. Our waitress was very kind and clearly tried her best to accommodate the entire front of the restaurant on her own - for her first evening on the job, she did a great job. We both enjoyed the specials - salmon with broccoli and rice pilaf, plus I had a delicious beet salad. I enjoyed a refreshing raspberry mocktail, while my friend had THE RUBY SLIPPER--Absolut Ruby Red, elderflower liqueur, grapefruit juice, raspberry puree, and a sugar rim. We waited a bit for our check since I was in a rush to leave to take antihistamines; unfortunately, I discovered there was mustard in the salmon sauce, which I'm allergic to. I should have asked before ordering, but I only realized after my symptoms started following my last bite. Overall, it's a cozy, quaint place with limited parking, and reservations are recommended for a smoother experience.

Live music on certain nights, but not the two times we went. We tend to have dinner early though. Starter salads and soups were delicious and homemade. I had a Spanish onion soup on one night and a caprese salad variation another night (fresh mozzarella and summer tomatoes with a basil aioli)! Mains were equally delicious - herb wrapped tenderloin cooked to rare perfection, Carlos Chicken (a brined half chicken then coated with Cajun seasoning and deep fried). We have also had the pork loin and another chicken dish that had a creamy, sublime sauce. Definitely indulge in the bread basket and desserts; all of which are made by Heidi, one of the several family members that have been running the Skunk since the mid-80s. From-scratch delicious food, really lovely garden seating, and great cocktails! And last but not least, really friendly, attentive and professional wait staff. All the reasons why locals come often and vacationers come back year after year!
