I highly recommend Paralell Design Group and Julie Brodsky!…read more My husband and I did a complete remodel of our condo and worked with Julie through the entire process. Julie's design is beautiful! When we ran into problems with structures that we could not be removed or found things we weren't expecting, Julie made adjustments to her designs and made a potentially stressful situation easy to manage. The end result is a beautiful home that we are proud of and very happy with. One of our favorite features is a light tower that Julie designed. We had a post with wires and pipes that we couldn't remove. Julie designed a light tower that is a work of art! Julie is great to work with, I would work with Julie again and highly recommend her to anybody! Thank you for a job well done!!

I cannot recommend Parallel Design Group or Julie Brodsky. We hired her for a Poptop project after…read moreBlue Sky's Remodeling Recommendation. We provided a $5500 deposit (50% down) and lost faith her her ability to execute on our project after our first meeting. We made it very clear we didn't want an addition on the main floor because we didn't want to loose our yard or any of the elements in our backyard we loved, we requested some drawings with rooftops, we did not want to refinish a our already finished basement. All of these requests were ignored and we ended up wasting 2 hours going over plans that did not meet our requirements. Additionally, several of the plans had a main floor bumpout that would have required the basement windows be framed in and natural light be lost, however this wasn't disclosed until a couple weeks later when we inquired. She had us spend all this time pick an upstairs & mainfloor we liked only to spring on us that would require us moving the stairs and a complete remodel of the basement hence putting us over budget. We were interested in building over our sunroom to get more live-able space on the second level, but Julie could figure out the zoning to see if this was allowed, even our contractor thought it was odd she could figure that out. W In the end she just put a balcony over it and called it good. Just like she couldn't figure out a rooftop deck so she didn't bring a design. In the end we could not get a floorplan that we excited or even content with building and we ended the project and requested a refund since we have no designs to use an inaccurate schematic (that we did sign off on, but later brought to her attention was incorrect). She insisted the project was almost complete. Not sure how the project is complete with no floorplan, hence no elevation & an incorrect schematic. Long story short she had an attorney serve us with a papers. Please learn from our mistake and do not do busy with this litigious architect that lacks attention to detail, does not listen, lacks creativity. I have confirmed this is not an isolated incident with other neighbors saying they had a similar experience. (e did bring out dissatisfaction in Julie's skills to the Design Build group Blue Sky Remodeling that recommended her and they were no help in resolving the project going sideways fast.) In the end we have an incorrect schematic & a headache. We signed a terrible contract and she was able to screw us out of another $1700, because if we fought her on it we'd have to pay for her attorney. I feel like a complete idiot for hiring this incompetent architect & signing her contract which pretty much allows her to rip off consumers. Do yourself a favor and hire someone else. After getting ripped off by Julie I reached out to Nextdoor Neighbors and Highlands Mommies to see if anyone else had fell victim and we found out we were not alone,

Sir Nicholas and I bought a very charming, very old home that we adored a few years ago. It had all…read moreof it's good "bones" like the original fireplace and hardwood floors, lovely built-ins and windows that weep a bit due to age. However, it also had some of the original stuff that we didn't love like a weird tiny kitchen and an entry hallway that dead-ended in a bathroom so that a toilet was the first thing people coming into our house saw. Well, truly it was a closed door because we have manners, but still. When we lived in it alone and then with just one little guy it was fine, but when we found out we were going to add a second Little Man N into the mix we had no idea where this kid was going to sleep. And since I wanted to remodel that ugly, tiny kitchen we decided to call an architect to help us figure it out. Luckily we called Sarah from Sexton Lawton. Lucky, because she is fantastic to work with if you are like us and want to keep the old charm of your home, but completely rework it to fit a more modern family life. We first met Sarah in the Spring of 2014 when we told her what we were thinking - these thoughts included the remodeled kitchen (that basically removed multiple walls and hallways), a brand new second floor (a pop-top if you will), the moving of our entire staircase, and a window turned into French doors that lead out to a new side porch just to name the big items. Sarah took notes of all our ideas and measurements of our current house and then a few weeks later delivered a design that was nearly exact to what we wanted. With a few tweaks here and there we had our design finished about two months later. I enjoyed working with Sarah on this portion because she was able to create a drawing of exactly what I wanted, she was helpful with suggestions when we were sure of what we wanted, and she wasn't afraid to share pros and cons with us in varying situations. Not only did Sarah help with the design though she also helped us countless times along the way of this massive, year-long project - talking with the proper permitting people at the city, making design adjustments as necessary, recommending various contractors for the duration of the project. If you live in an older home and need any kind of architecture help I highly recommend Saxton Lawton. Sarah truly understands how to keep the charm of these homes while transforming them into a better living space based on what you need and want in your home.
