I was there with friends last night (Thursday), hoping for a nice, conversation-friendly dinner. Apparently, Thursday is "Ladies Night." We were seated on the patio in the back corner, nowhere near where the speakers were set up. At about 6:30, they started playing loud, bass-heavy '80s music. It was so loud that we practically had to shout just to continue our conversation. Okay, I'm not 30 anymore, but c'mon! It was 6:30 on a Thursday, and people were still having dinner. If you want to create a "dance vibe," I get it. But maybe start a little later--or at least begin the music at a comfortable level and gradually turn it up as the evening progresses. I'm a professional musician; there are ways to build energy in a room without immediately driving the dinner crowd crazy. Unfortunately, that's exactly what happened to me. What started as an enjoyable evening with friends quickly became frustrating because we could barely hear each other. read more

We needed to find a good restaurant on our route back to Glenview. So glad we chose Zia's Social. Our table of 8 was seated on their beautiful Patio. The highlight of the experience wasn't just the excellent food and ambiance. Rosie, our server was The Star of the Show. She managed our orders for drinks and appetizers with perfect pacing and skill. Made Most Excellent recommendations for all at the table. Ages 12 to 76. Everything she did was done with a smile, skill, and great patience. When I asked if the Carbonara in a Jar was popular, she replied "Most popular"! I wasn't disappointed. It was the best I've ever had! We finished with 2 Rosie-recommend deserts and 8 spoons. The plates were passed around and wiped clean in no time at all. Saying "goodbye for now" to my niece. She's leaving us to make herself better. Going college and breaking her Titi's heart... It was such a nice night when we went. We chose to eat outside. The weather was perfect for that. Our server and her team were ON IT. We ordered the Carbonara in a Jar, Penne Piedmontese, the NY Strip and two bowls of Zuppa. Everything was tasty. Beautiful outdoor patio. The service was good, our waitress didn't come around as much. The scampi pizza was very very good. Wish they would put more shrimp in the slices. One a slice isn't cutting it for me. The flavor of the cheese mixed with that scampi, and nice shrimp bite comes so well together. It's delicious. The crust was nice and crunchy. It was not doughy. It wasn't bad. Prices were higher than I expected but the food was good. I had the chicken They charge a 3-% fee on their tickets if you use a card. The food was pretty good, and there was a nice variety of things to taste when I was here with my book club. Their drinks are great, and they have some nice happy hour specials to consider as well. If I recall correctly, parking is street only. I got lucky, but it is Norwood Park, so parking is still generally ok. read more

We've been to Zia's several times, but this review is strictly for the brunch. Went for the Sunday brunch with friends, and was very pleasantly surprised. Went were seated outside which was nice, even though it was a little windy. They have all you drink mimosas, Bellinis and Bloody Marys which we all did for $18 is a deal. So we all ordered something different and shared a bit. I ordered the jalapeño popper omelette which was amazing, and the potatoes were amazing too. My friend ordered the churro French toast that was so good and tasted just like a churro and the portions were enormous. Someone else ordered the Brenna's eggs which is a riff on eggs Benedict, and again large portion and extremely tasty. The waitress was very nice, but they were busy and she didn't make back as often as normal and she did accidentally spill a drink on the table, but we told her to not worry about it. It was a nice way to spend a Sunday morning, and we plan to go back. read more

I like this place, the vibe, the service and the parking on thr street or by valet is okay. But it's so frickin' loud here! It's deafening and you will need to shout to speak to the person next to you. Meeting friends we haven't seen in a long time it was hard to hold a conversation. On the food, they have a nice menu. Not a lot to go with if you're a vegetarian but they have good staple dishes. Ordered a salad to share which was not overly impressive but fine. The margherita pizza was very good. The dough was perfect with a good bite. Large slices of tomato and good balance of cheese. They have a nice bourbon list. So we used to go to Zia's Trattoria on Talcott so we were really disappointed with the change in location, menu, and ambience. First of all it feels like you're in some sort of industrial warehouse. Maybe that's chic to some people but it certainly doesn't have a good feel. Then the dining area is wide open and again it just feels wrong. Our servers were fine although I can't even remember what we ate since it was four months ago right at Christmas time. All I know is that we didn't then and still don't want to return given the strange ambience of the place and there was nothing spectacular about the food that overcame our feelings about the weird atmosphere. read more

Really cool Italian Restaurant on NW HWY that is quite spacious. The interior is beautiful and there are opportunities to sit out on the patio. We had a reservation and the hostesses were friendly, taking us to our table right away. My guest and I enjoyed wine and ordered their truffle fries and enjoyed a roasted acorn squash salad. It was plenty enough to share. I followed it up by their Chicken Limone. You are able to choose a protein and any Italian preparation. Our server was friendly and attentive. He was always checking on us and filling whatever glasses needed to be filled! It was a pleasant restaurant with a lively atmosphere. The food was also delicious. I've been to Zia's multiple times for both bridal showers and dinners, and every visit has been a wonderful experience. The bridal showers I've attended were held at the far end of the dining room past the bar, so while I can't speak for the upstairs party room under Zia's (I've only seen it back when it was Iron Horse), the downstairs space is fantastic for group gatherings. They also have a pretty large outside space, but I have yet to dine there, either. As for service, the staff here is always friendly, attentive, and excellent at what they do, making sure every guest feels comfortable and well taken care of. My parents come here more often than me, and they also have had nothing but good service. Some of the waitstaff even know them by name. The food is consistently amazing, as well. I've tried a variety of dishes from both their catering and regular menus, and everything has been a hit. Some favorites include the Chicken Vesuvio; Zia Pena Salad which has a combination of pears and walnuts that is so refreshing ($12/$16); Penne Piedmontese($21); Maile con Pancetta which has a delicious salty flavor; and the 8 Finger Cavatelli, which is one of my personal favorites ($23). Zia's continues to be a go-to spot for special events and they have solid Italian food. I highly recommend! read more

We arrived at 3, service started at 3:30, the waiter seated us and we ordered drinks promptly. We ordered: Limone Chicken. (3.5 stars) the chicken was a little rubbery and the lemon sauce was borderline too much especially with capers too. I'd still ate some of it and did enjoy the potatoes. Caluzza Chicken (4.5 stars) a mild sauce, chicken and pasta. The veggies were good. Make our own pasta, with fucilli and red sauce (4 stars) Truffle frites (4 stars) the fries were pretty good. I recently attended a family function (son's 50th BD) .. we entertained 20 people for dinner .. the ambiance is Good - not Great .. it appears to be a building that was once a garage of some kind .. we were seated in the rear of restaurant that was adjacent to their "outdoor" dining section .. it was hard to talk/listen and the draft from the heated patio was less than desired .. -- HOWEVER -- the food and service was GREAT !! .. we were served family style .. several portions of salads .. pastas .. meat entrees .. I felt we could have used two servers for our group .. but server we had was F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S .. I slipped him a $20 so he would understand how appreciative we were .. overall a nice and enjoyable evening .. The outdoor space was beautiful and nicely done, but sometimes when it's windy, it's not easy to eat and the food can get cold quickly. There's a big outdoor section and you have choices of where to sit where there's more light or more wind and more exposure, but they also have umbrellas, which are very helpful. The food was very good, especially the lasagna that was individually done and made from scratch and inside an individual cast iron pan. The portion was amazing and it's wonderful if you're starving. Otherwise you can have a leftovers. The fish special for bass was really good after we asked them to make it simple without the sauce. It came out way too salty the first time. And for $30, We didn't think it was worth it because the fish wasn't very plump or juicy and there wasn't a lot of fish. The sausages and peppers were very good and tasty and fresh. The drink was very good. The wait staff were very attentive. There is Free Parking on the street if you can find it and it wasn't that difficult to find. There is no private parking lot. Overall, it's a beautiful and big restaurant and the food is very good. They have chewy Italian bread on the house that comes with grated Parmesan cheese and some vinegar, flavored vegetable vegetables, and olives. read more

Stopped in because I had a about 30 minutes while I was waiting for my car to be washed. It was pretty busy in the restaurant area with apparently being served at 1:45ish. I sat at the bar and there was no bartender. There was a side bar area set up with people making pitcher upon pitcher of what looked like a pink mimosa style cocktail being served all over. It took me 7 minutes before I was approached and had to wave down a man in an apron. I asked for a Paloma and a menu. I was told brunch was being served for another 15 minutes and was given that many. The Paloma was served, no salted rim and certainly did not look like a Paloma . It was horrible. I asked for Casamigos Repasada. I don't know what they used but it was not that. I ordered calamari from the lone server, who was nice enough but surely in the weeds. I received my calamari and found numerous pieces of breaded and fried pepperoni along with it. Obviously the prep line needs a good cleaning. I finished and again I waited for someone, anyone to bring me my check. That took another 8 minutes once I was done and looking around for anyone to get their attention. Needless to say I didn't tip, and wrote why on the receipt. I mentioned the above to a female hostess and asked her to pass it along, she looked aloof. Sadly this place has been a disappointment since leaving uptown Edison Park. read more

Mother's Day was only buffet. Not aware til we arrived. So we stayed and the price was ridiculous. Food was ok but I'm not a fan of buffet, Turned out it was $65 a person plus 20% tip applied plus 3% credit card fee. Could have gone to a full service restaurant and not paid a tip for a server to bring beverages only while we served ourselves. I think this was a real ripoff. read more
