I was surprised to read the reviews about this place. I was recently at a different location and it was far worse than this one. It's your typical Zeros and it looks dated but was clean. Basic tables...nothing fancy. We ordered 2 of the grinder special for $8.99 and a ham and cheese. They got our order 100% correct. The food came out hot and fresh and fast. They brought it to our table. They even came back when we were done and gave us to go bags. The customer service was very friendly. Everyone of them was super nice. We finally decided to try this local shop instead of going a Fire House sub since they have been stingy on their proteins. And my coworker also recommended Zero's subs. We were kinda wary off the low stars rating but gave it a chance anyway because we live 3 mins away. We are pleasantly surprised how good the food were and the customer service was top notch. The lady was very patient when I asked questions about what goes in each subs. The cook isn't fluent in English but his attitude is pleasing. My husband got a foot long Philly Cheese Steak with extra cheese. I got a half tuna sandwich with everything and hot peppers added. I was happily demolished my sandwich without guilt because it was a balanced of protein and veggies. The tuna tastes like the real deal and the bread was crispy toasted ( which is my deal breaker). My husband sub were filled with steak y'all. I even took a few bites just to help him finish his sub ( I lied ) Anywho, we will definitely coming back for more. I've been going to this sub shop on 1st colonial rd. for close to 30 years now. I endured people for years who speak no English at all but I somehow managed to get my favorite sub over all these years in spite of the shop being closed when google is showing the hours as it should be open. Not just once but uncountable times. Tonight, I made the mistake of ordering (call in) a sub at 7:51 to find that they have closed the grill. My frustration came thru when I'm told they are no longer making that sub as they close at 8 on Saturday. Being right across the street, I decided to go inside and place the order. I could tell immediately that the cook? Manager? knew that I was the call and immediately LOUDLY shut me down, claiming I cursed at him on the phone-NOT TRUE! When I protested, he walks around the counter and basically threatens to throw me out. I mean PHYSICALLY. He then proceeds to follow (USHER) me outside in an overaggressive way. Yes, I shouted back in defense but all I wanted was a sub. If you close at 8 then DON'T shut down the grill til then or post that you close earlier. If this is management material, he needs A LOT MORE TRAINING! I am 68 years old and I am no physical threat to this a -hole yet he felt the need to physically come around from the counter and make sure I was outside before he shouted additional threats telling me not to come back. This turned into a shouting match with f-bombs flying. After 30 years I'm done acquiescing to this type of service for a freaking sub. Whether you fire this guy or not, I'm done. My Philly cheesesteak was anorexic. Very skimpy on the meat and peppers, mostly bread. Shrinkflation strikes again. I wont go there again.

One star because you have to rate. Would have given more stars because the food is good but today I am rating the customer service. Its 6:22pm and I guess asking questions is not allowed. Today is two for Tuesdays and all my we did was ask if the roast beef sandwitch was included in the offer since it is the same price as the other subs included. Some ppl have stuff going on at home etc but when you work in customer service you put that phoney smile on and keep it moving. Answering with an attitude is rude. Hope her day gets better. Gonna wait on the food because he already paid for it but if he hadn't would have told him to just pull off. If it was ke I would have walked after she responded. Accidentally put that this place is expensive, but it's not! Less than $10 for most sandwiches. Been coming here religiously since I found this place and I'm never disappointed. Talk about a restaurant going downhill fast! Came in on 06may2021 spent 33$ on two sandwiches that were burnt, dry, barley had any meat, and didn't have extra oil and vinegar that I ordered. I would have taken it back but was too far away by the time I opened my lunch. They also use to serve a good portion of cheese curds - not anymore. The people working there are friendly but I will not be going back. This was the second time in the last few months Zeros has disappointed me. Not the same place it once was. read more

I love this place they have some of the best subs in town and most of the people that work there are awesome and friendly but I'm sorry I gotta do the 2 star. We just moved to Virginia Beach and my boyfriend was looking forward to having some food from Zero's.. Our visit today ended any hopes of returning. The tables, floors, walls, and chairs were all dirty. Their was a film of an unknown substance on everything. After we started eating, my 3 year old daughter needed to use the restroom. Having a touch of OCD, I thought I was going to vomit. Aside from all the trash laying on the floor, there was also a cockroach... No time to go to the tanning place next door, so I had to cover the seat and hold the poor child in mid air. The sink had bits of something in it, so paper towels to turn the water on, off, then to open the door. The staff were less than warm. They seemed to be disconnected and gossiping about other coworkers the entirety of our stay. Truly an unprofessional demeanor. It sad, because overall, the food was really good. read more

Usually love the food here. Today ordered 4 grinders 1 with hot peppers amd 3 with sweet peppers. When i got home to sort and serve to the family, it was 3 hot peppers and 1 sweet peppers. Because of this mistake i was unable to eat, since there was no way my kids were gonna do hot. Im very upset and disappointed.. and still hungry. read more

Completely average subs, but missing half the meat you expect. A large sub comes with the amount of meat you would expect in a small. Ordered a cheesesteak and was disappointed....medium meatball sub literally had three meatballs (enough to basically fill half 2/3 the sandwich.) read more

Order a veggie sub by phone was very specific in how I wanted it prepared. Picked up the sandwich completely prepared the opposite. Very nasty no seasoning.. Requested certain vegetables to not be on sandwich they made a total different one. Called back very rude. #1 location is the Zero's on North Hampton Blvd and its delicious in Virginia Beach. 2 stars for a Zero's from a guy who loves Zero's uh OH!! I will start with the food 4 subs for a family get together and all special's in one form or the other and all were Perfect!! hmmm not the food. The Service the guy at the counter was nice and neat and did a good job taking the order and making the subs. THE GOOD ENDS There! No A/C portables set up that did not work and were so dirty they had been there a while. Odor, Subs shops should smell like, well subs not rotting food uh oh good news it was the overflowing trash can not the kitchen! Super bad news the dining room was disgusting (glad it was to go) black greasy dirt on the floors, baseboards, chairs, ceilings.......... So lets finish with the Bathrooms! When your feet stick to the floor and when the sink is so dirty you decide to wait to wash your hands until you get to where your going thats bad. To end on a good note the door to the kitchen was open and suprise it looked clean! I would suggest the manager (i guess that wa him) get off his cell phone and look at how dirty his restaurant is!! We luv in Richmond and until a few years ago, Zero's was our favorite sub shop until they suddenly shut down. When we went to Virginia Beach on vacation we tried it again and it was just as good. They still make the best sub I ever tasted. Maybe they will reconsider Richmond again. read more
