I was feeling a sub on a Tuesday early evening. I decided to use my free 1/2 sub coupon I received from my son's school. *I was already a fan when I found out Zero's is working alongside our local schools! I ordered the grinder minus onions. This sub seemed to be bigger than a half and boy was it filled with meat! It was delicious! I'll definitely be back to try their Philly Steak sub!

I love this place BUT, web page says open from 10-7 on Saturdays and I just left there at 4:00 pm and they are closed.

I really like Mr. Jim's. It's a no-frills sub and pizza joint that has solid food at reasonable…read moreprices, which is why it's almost always busy. So expect a bit of a wait on some days (especially weekends). They have a very generous delivery area, which is great for anyone who doesn't have time to run in and wait for an order. The hubs likes the meatball sub. We both like the Philly (chicken or steak). I recently caught on to the fact that they have good burgers, so it's been a go-to as of late. But I also tried the Grilled Pastrami & Swiss on Rye, which is simple yet really freaking tasty (the butteriness of the rye bread is sooooo good). We sometimes share some steak fries with cheese, but we ALWAYS get a couple of cookies. They're fresh and fabulous! There's a reason this spot has been around literally my entire life. If you're a Chesapeakean, you know why. If you're new here, ya gotta go and find out why.

I stopped by Mister Jim's in Chesapeake and unfortunately, my experience fell far short of…read moreexpectations. I ordered a Philly cheesesteak and was told upfront that it would be about a 20-minute wait on the grill, which I was completely fine with. But after 50 minutes had passed, I finally had to go up and ask about my order. When I finally got my food, it was clear things were not handled well. The fries were made immediately and left sitting in a closed Styrofoam container the entire time my sub was cooking. By the time I received them, they were a soggy, wet pile of fries with zero crisp left. As for the sub itself, it was about 90% bread and maybe 10% actual filling. It took three hard, crusty bites before I even reached any meat--and when I did, the flavor was disappointing and lackluster. Definitely not what I expected from a place known for subs. Their "Italian dressing" is really just a ton of oil with a tiny splash of vinegar. They should just call it what it is instead of something misleading. To top it off, I had to ask someone to wipe the table before sitting because it wasn't cleaned. Overall, this visit was a miss from start to finish. Long wait, soggy fries, a flavorless sub, and unclear menu descriptions. I really hope they improve consistency and quality, because my experience did not match the reputation they seem to have

Consistency--both in the kitchen and in the dining room--has made this longtime favorite a reliable choice for those who value substance over flash. The service reflects that same steadiness. The staff is welcoming, attentive, and knowledgeable without being overbearing--always ready with thoughtful suggestions for anyone navigating the menu. I began with the garden salad, a straightforward but well-executed mix of fresh greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, and sweet Vidalia onions, finished with housemade croutons and a balanced balsamic vinaigrette. It's a simple dish done right, which sets the tone for what follows. The she-crab soup--an award-winning staple--delivers exactly what you hope for in a classic rendition. Rich, velvety, and deeply satisfying, it's best enjoyed in a cup unless you plan on making it the centerpiece of your meal. For the entrée, the French Dip stands out as a clear highlight. Built on a soft roll and filled with thinly sliced prime rib--slow-roasted to achieve both tenderness and depth of flavor--it's served with a properly seasoned au jus that brings the entire sandwich together. It's a dish that leans on quality ingredients and careful execution rather than unnecessary embellishment, and it succeeds because of it. Court House Café continues to earn its reputation the right way: consistent food, thoughtful service, and an atmosphere that feels rooted in the community it serves. In a dining landscape often chasing trends, this is a place that understands the value of doing the fundamentals exceptionally well--and doing them every time.

Court House Cafe's reuben is THE best reuben sandwich I've ever had. The pastrami is tender and doesn't get caught up in between your teeth like other places and just enough sauerkraut to not be overbearing. The steak fries are always hot and crisp. My only gripe is that I prefer Heinz ketchup with my fries which they do not have. The service is always top notch and the girls there are always friendly. My drink was never empty. Now, wait times may vary but it is worth the wait.
