We visited Palm Desert to see our St. Louis CITY Soccer Club (SC) play Austin in pre-season MLS soccer at the Coachella Valley Invitational Tournament. This was a late-planned trip, and my wonderful wife was still able to pull off getting us into our favorite Marriott Vacation Club property - Shadow Ridge in Palm Desert. Every trip before this one we have stayed in the same building near the entrance; this was our first time staying in The Enclaves, the buildings located further back in the property, the ones with a more noticeable adobe-like southwestern motif. Being only three of us, we stayed in the studio, which is a one-bedroom with a pull-our sofa; then kitchen has counter space, but less than the master suite (no island / no wrap-around counter), and place settings for four; there is a small dishwasher. There is a coffee machine with a carafe (a pot at a time not a cup at a time). The room is laid out well and has good decorations. Our room happened to face south, so we could get some sun on the patio. We were also next to the Snakebites pool and enjoyed sun there - pool, cornhole, table tennis / ping-pong, and more. We have been visiting Shadow Ridge more often the past couple years, and that is a good thing, for doses of vitamin D from the sun, and from the relaxation we always feel when we are there. On this trip, I did work a couple days, too, and the Business Center in the lobby has much counter space and power plugs that could support 3-5 people working in there; though conf calls would be a noise challenge in such a setup; I was in there solo and was quite productive. The place is in desperate need of a full gut remodel. We were relegated to the 'back room,' which was barely air conditioned, and the only clean thing in the room was the flatware, eating utensils, and food presented by an outside catering company. It was difficult to eat the wonderful food that was provided without gagging. Nav sends you to another business behind it with a vast parking lot. Street parking is non-existent. I ended up using a 20-minute zone. I have no idea where everyone else parked, but I have to assume it was this huge, tilted parking lot at the business behind. Accessing this, 'meeting hall' from that parking lot is harrowing and definitely NOT ADA or disability-friendly. You couldn't PAY ME to return to this place.

The camping itself is not horrid in any aspect- it is mainly the promises that it fails to keep. A friend and I recently camped here for Coachella weekend two and spent $75 each on air balloon rides- they ended up being cancelled. That was upsetting but understandable considering the winds were said to be strong. There were said to be four to five shuttles to transport people to and back from Coachella. An employee even said to us as we parked, "don't worry it's so friendly here you can even get the driver's number and text him when you're ready to go" Turns out there are only three shuttles- no one is allowed to have the drivers phone number for some reason. The shuttles arrive every hour with poor time leaving 30-40 people waiting for shuttles for over an hour on both day 1 and day 2 of Coachella. If not longer- we ended up taking a private bus back because our experience was so bad. Considering we paid $75 each for shuttle passes it's ultimately upsetting and irritating. Basecamp was intended to be a fun place to stay and hangout and with a pool and bars it seems like it- but they are also lacking in Amenaties- with only 3-4 small lounge areas there really is no place to hangout during the hot days. The bathrooms are also lacking in the upkeep. This picture is from one of the women's bathrooms- which started to leak and continues to 24 hours later.

In 3 words: Awful Horrible Deception!…read more Base Camp made a reduction to the no of nights during my stay from 4 nights to 3 on 19th April 2018 a few hours prior to the night of my check in, I received an email from Base Camp stating that check in was cancelled due to winds. This was extremely unfortunate news on the night of myself and my guest's arrival from London to LA as the notice provided on the weather forecast was only announced at very short notice. As a result of this late announcement, alternative accommodation had to be sought and paid for, on the same day of my arrival as there was no other option of where to sleep. This proved to be very stressful and expensive and an inconvenient start to my Coachella holiday. I visited Base Camp based on reviews and recommendations online and my overall experience proved to have fallen short of anything positive. Upon arrival at the check-in desk on 20th April, we were not welcomed so gracefully, in addition to this - not one colleague apologised for the cancellation made with little detail and notice and showed little regard for the inconvenience it caused for the guests. The reasons for the cancellation on this occasion, as a Customer, was completely outside of our control. The decision was made by Base Camp but no refund had been accounted for the loss of nights stay and accommodation. Whilst safety may have been the driver, forecasts should have been assessed well in advance and communicated clearly to all guests in the most practical form via email, or your website. I repeatedly requested to speak to a site manager, who was never available, I was advised he will visit our tent but never did. I then Spoke to Derrick (Supervisor) whom advised that comms would definitely be sent out to guests on the handling of our cancelled check in on 19th April and added that any costs incurred to arrange alternative accommodation would also be taken care of; but zero communication has been received to date!!!. The management of this incident has been below standard. Additional concerns and issues that lead to an overall poor experience: - Directions to venue were unclear, no signs anywhere close the the front of the campsite stating "Base Camp" - Toilets were dirty, constantly blocked and lacked hygiene and sanitizations - Blankets and sheets limited, hard beds - Pool was extremely small - Showers were cold and stopped intermittently and were very unreliable - Tents were not and far from furnished, a bed and chair is basic and looked nothing as advertised on the website - Staff were rude and charged $75 for a shuttle bus that wasn't well highlighted (no Base Camp sign or red lights were placed on our 10pm bus as we were previously advised) on return back to camp from Coachella festival. This completely ruined out Coachella stay, avoid avoid AVOID!

Easy and free parking too. The resort and the rooms were so cute. The bed was comfortable and the AC worked really well. It was nice that the pool is just steps away from the room and was open 24-7. We were able to enjoy it at midnight after the weather cooled down. Breakfast was also delivered each morning which included OJ, Greek yogurt, and muffins. If you're looking for a cute and peaceful oasis in Palm Desert, I would highly recommend Mojave Resort.

Really loved the area nearby, everything you could want from stores and restaurants to hiking and biking trails, Joshua Tree National Park close by for day trips. There's a lot within a couple hours drive as well, LA, San Diego, even Vegas. But that's if you ever want to leave the resort! Lots to keep you busy with on site 18 hole golf course, pickleball, tennis, exercise classes, pools, spas and countless social events. Modern clubhouse and sports lounge round out the amenities. But the best part of all for us has been the people. Everyone we met was so friendly and welcoming. Have loved every minute we've spent at Outdoor Resort Indio.
