if you're looking for pure relaxation, this is the place. I spent 70 minutes in absolute bliss. I originally booked the Hydration Service for my scalp, but the technician started with a scalp analysis and recommended the oil control service instead (same price as what I booked), which ended up being the better choice. After the consultation, you move to the treatment beds where the real relaxation begins. For about 50 minutes they gently massage your scalp while applying different products. While the treatment works its magic, they also massage your neck and shoulders. It's incredibly calming. Next, you move to a chair for the blow dry, but they keep the relaxation going by offering a blanket and an eye cover. They also use red light therapy and other equipment on your scalp. At the end, they show you your scalp again so you can see the results of the treatment. I can honestly say it's one of the most relaxed I've ever felt. Definitely worth the price. read more

I was a bit hesitant at first, since I thought scalp treatments was more of a girl thing, but my buddy said naw, and invited me. I was wrong. When I walked in, there were already 2 dudes there so I guess scalp rinses are for everyone. I've never had one before so this was new to me. First off, it's expensive so think of it more like a luxury. You're looking at $200+ for a 70 minute session including tip. They start off by examining your scalp with a high powered lens. The woman manager was funny because she couldn't upsell me in product because my scalp didn't have flakes so she said it was oily and that if I could go bald with oily hair. Say what?!? So no upsell for me LOL. My personal was Vicky and she was great. Great shoulder massage to start and then for the next hour it was washing hair with deep hair masks that smelled like eucalyptus and lavender. She gave me an eye mask that was heated and it felt like it was cooling my eyes so I asked her to switch it out for a cool eye mask which she did. So much better. Afterwards she dries my hair and another quick scalp and shoulder massage in the chair before she showed me my scalp under that microscope lens again. Came here with a groupon, made an appointment ahead of time to avoid any challenges. The place smells nice and the relaxing music automatically puts you in a zen mood. I like how they have a semi private room for each client and that staff try to stay as quiet as possible to help foster a relaxing environment. The before and after microscopic view is crazy difference! The lady I had was very good at her massage, but didn't tell me anything that was happening next. Mind you, I have an eye mask so I can't see anything. And there were moments she would leave and I wasn't sure when she would come back, haha! They not only massaged the scalp, but the neck and shoulder massage was very much needed! I wish they had experienced hair stylists or assistants to do a blowout instead of just blow drying and off you go. But I know, it's not their service. I appreciated how they keep you warm even when switching stations. The lady, though, wasn't so gentle when detangling my hair - good thing I'm not tender headed haha. Had a groupon for 2 people for 50 mins Signature Headspa Treatment with massage on shoulders, neck, head and scalp. I've done scalp headspas before, but this was the shortest time I've tried. They thoroughly explained the issues with our scalp and explained what they were doing throughout the process. They also offered us add-ons and were not pushy about it which I appreciated! My boyfriend and I both opted for the $50 hydration add on (not includes in the groupon), but personally I didn't think it made much of a difference. The 50mins did feel quite short, but at no point did I feel rushed. We were the only customers there at the time so it felt nice we had the place to ourselves and was a lot quieter with no background noise. They also offered us water. I wouldn't mind coming again, but would opt out of the add-on (just because my own scalp didn't really need it in my opinion). I've been wanting to try a head spa for the longest time - prior to when this service started blowing up in the Bay Area. I've always seen videos of other folks trying it down in SoCal, and I'm always looking for relaxing services to treat myself with. My work bestie wanted to spoil me for my birthday by taking me here since we were both curious about how well it would work and we wanted to have a "self care" day. My work bestie was able to make reservations online for 11/9 in the morning, but they had a ton of availability. When we arrived, we walked in and we were both greeted by Jenny. She ushered us in towards the back, so that we can do a scalp analysis and then get started with the treatment. I started first and I knew my scalp was bad and it was. I have dandruff and some areas get really itchy/red, so they did recommend the dandruff treatment to help sooth my scalp (which is what I originally wanted to try out). My work bestie ended up getting the oil control treatment instead of the dandruff one she booked herself for. I don't believe there was a price difference, but each service has a set price. PRICING: -Dandruff scalp treatment: $179 -Oil control treatment: $179 I did tip the person that completed my service 20%. They do accept cash, credit card, Zelle, and Venmo. SERVICE/EXPERIENCE: The service itself was really relaxing. I would recommend wearing a loose shirt, so it's easy to take off. They do massage your neck and shoulders, so I would also recommend wearing a tube top like bra or wear a bra where the straps are easy to slide down. You are tucked into a soft and warm blanket, and they place a heated eye mask on you for the duration of your service. They start off the service by using a variety of tools to massage your scalp, and then it gets into the hair washing part. That part roughly took 45 minutes to 1 hour. They used Chinese herbs and serums to calm my scalp and to minimize my dandruff. There were only two workers inside with multiple stations, but it was not busy at all. They did open up not too long ago, so I think they're slowly growing their business. The second half of the service, I was brought to a separate chair where my hair was being blow dried, and they used that ticklish scalp massage tool where it felt really nice. At one point I did end up snoring because I felt so relaxed LOL I woke myself up after. They do let you borrow a robe to wear when they blow dry your hair. For some reason the robe was a size M, but it was a bit tight.. If that happens, I'd have them provide you a larger sized robe. **they do use Dyson products, which is nice! They have hair dryers and I saw they had a Dyson Air Straightener** The only con I can say is that the worker who serviced me did not dry my hair all the way. I have straight Asian hair, and it was still pretty wet/damp in certain areas. I ended up air drying the rest of my hair and it got a bit poofy. I'd definitely come back for a self-care day. I would love to try other head spas around the Bay Area to try out new places, but this spot is pretty solid. My friend and I booked the Water Flow Therapy with Chinese Medicinal Herbal Bath Treatment for 50 minutes. Our appointment was at 10am so we were the only ones there, which was nice because it felt like a private appointment. The ladies was nice and attentive. First, we examined our scalp with camera to see up close how dirty our scalp is. I haven't washed my hair in 4 days so my head was very oily and had a lot of dirt buildup. Next, we changed and laid down on the shampoo bed. We spent the next 30 minutes with a nice hair wash and massage. The hair wash was nice because she really went in and cleaned the scalp. I wish they massaged the neck and shoulder a little more. Lastly, we finished off with the hair drying which incorporated tools to stimulate the scalp. After the treatment was over, my head felt so light, like a boulder has been lifted off my shoulders. My hair was so bouncy & shiny! Overall, it was a very relaxing experience! If you're looking to treat yourself to a nice pamper, I'd recommend trying Zen Scalp Studio. The only caveat is that every bed is separated by a curtain so you hear others if they're talking. Made appointment for the Bojin service but after analyzing my scalp the technician recommended the oil control, totally fine and my scalp does feel healthy but it was definitely the shortest neck and shoulder massage I've ever had at a head spa. The scalp cleaning is very thorough and the stuff they blew onto my scalp afterwards felt nice. Also agree with one of the previous reviews, I also have a perm and the blow dry was terrible for my hair. The technician did try to put some product in it but ponytail it is for now. The owner is super nice and engaged with her client. She is very knowledgeable with all the treatment. You ask her questions and she has answers. My favorite is Jenny who treated my scalp. Jenny is the best! She care for my hair and honest about sharing the clogged pores of my scalp. I came back today Oct 18th for the second time and my next appt is scheduled on Nov 2nd. So my daughter bought us the Groupon 50 min treatment with neck and shoulders massage. First time doing this so we were totally excited!! We got there early and waited patiently. Once we were escorted in, we had a quick scalp session where they show you how much buildup, dryness, etc. You have on your scalp. Then you're moved to your bed. Once in my little area, I was told 'take top off' nothing more...so with a quick glance around the area I saw a towel cover so figured I had to take my top off so it wouldn't get wet (apparently the bra too, though was not told that) I made a comment out loud to myself and luckily my daughter was in the space next to me, because she was not told anything at all. I lay down and we begin. My attendant kept on using very warm water and I kept asking to turn down the heat. She did do an amazing job on the shampoo and rest of the treatment with a quick neck and shoulders massage. When it was time to rinse, water was actually hotter where I jerked my head up stating "hot". Full disclosure, like most women I do take hot showers so when I say it was hot, well it was HOT. She apologized and lowered the heat but still felt too warm. Then came time to sit on the chair to get my hair dry. I have curly hair so I figured being a hair treatment spa, they would also know the difference types of hairs. Let's just say my hair ended up being a frizzy dried out mess. Even the owner noticed and offered leave on conditioner and serums to try to tame it down. She told me I should have told them not to blow dry my hair!! Like I knew what the process was. The place is clean and the staff is friendly but... 1. You don't wash hair with hot water! 2. If you see processed or color hair, you most definitely don't wash it with hot water. 3. You are a hair/scalp treatment place. You need to know the different hair types. 4. You do not blow dry curly hair- use the infuser or ask if they even want it blown. My hair feels drier and frizzier. If you have plain, straight, non textured, non processed hair, and you don't mind getting cooked with hot water, then this MAY be the place for you. read more

My friend and I were taken care of right away straight with a scalp analysis. Then we laid down to get our hair washed/ massage! This was the best feeling ever, i fell asleep! It also included a neck/ shoulder massage. Afterwards, i decided to do red light therapy and you get a blow dry. (Don't expect a style) THEN, you get another scalp analysis to compare. I bought a groupon for the 70-minute Classic Head Spa Treatment with Massage. The establishment is clean and comfortable. The staff is very friendly. I am hard of hearing and had to take off my hear aids during treatment. They spoke loud enough for me to understand. It was so relaxing that I dozed off during part of the treatment. Afterwards, my hair felt so smooth and soft. My groupon included a head, scalp, shoulders and neck massage. They did a deep cleaning scalp therapy (more head massage) then washed my hair. Lastly, I got an herbal steam treatment (if you're claustrophobic this might bother you since they cover eyes, ears and back of head with a hood). I enjoyed the warm hydrating eye mask I had on for most of the treatment time. They blow-dry your hair before you leave - no styling, just drying. I would recommend dressing in light pants as my legs were very sweaty after the treatment (covered in a blanket). A shirt with a front closure would be helpful so you don't have to pull your shirt over your head which is wrapped in a towel, before they blow-dry your hair. I'll wait until I am eligible to buy another groupon, and go again. read more

My hair was in perfect condition. my scalp was in perfect condition until I went to the salon. after they was done with my hair, my hair broke off an inch from my scalp. My hair is so dried out. There were moments I felt relaxed, and I do think my scalp ended up clean and moisturized. But there were a few things that could be improved with both the space and service. For example, during the scalp scrub, it felt like the technician was clawing at my head. I made a face, and she asked if I wanted lighter pressure, and I said yes and so she did for a while, but unfortunately, she went back to scrubbing way too hard not long after. It would also be helpful if they explained each step of the process. Since your eyes are covered the whole time, it's disorienting when things suddenly change. Clearer communication around what to expect would make the experience feel more comfortable. The waiting area is very small, and if you're going with friends, just know to keep your voice down. Also, I used a Groupon for the basic service, but they did try to upsell us, which was a little disappointing since we were hoping the standard treatment would be enough to accomplish a clean healthy scalp. If you like privacy, this place is not for you. If you've done a scalp massage in New York, this place is not for you. I had to come in and tell them that I needed to get my kid after my appointment for them to see me. The scalp consultation was a quick check with the microscope and it lasted less than 5 minutes. The scalp massage was great but I added steam to my services and I think they turned the heat too high and left, and it felt like my scalp was on fire. Since they turned it on and left, I had to call someone to show up. I told them that it was feeling more like burn and they reduced the heat and left. I waited a minute but it became unbearable so I had to call them again. I asked them to rinse my hair immediately because it was burning, and when they turned on the water it was warm, so I had to ask for cold water. They couldn't get the water to get cold to work, so I said, "please just rinse it. It is burning!!!" They managed to turn on cold water but it was burning too much already. I dried my own hair and asked for Advil but they didn't have it. I couldn't believe that after all of this they charged me full price! I'm never going back. read more

Let's start with the pros -- the location is convenient, clean and the staff is extremely nice and welcoming. They have a fridge with a variety of complimentary drinks. I've suffered from dandruff most of life but for the past year have been doing scalp treatments which have helped a lot. I booked the dandruff and bacteria treatment, and the specialist started with a microscope to see the buildup and flakes. Now for the treatment -- I was disappointed that the treatment didn't include a hair steam, but the technician explained that wasn't included in the package. Prior to treatment my scalp was pretty itchy and dry. After the deep cleanse, my hair was still a bit itchy, but the flakes were pretty much gone. Though not much of the treatment was focused on hydrating my scalp, which is what I'm use to. However less than 48 hours after the treatment, my dandruff is back and I have big flakes everywhere. Really disappointed that after paying $200+ (treatment + tip) that the results lasted less than 2 days, and now I'm back to square 1. read more

Sorry I have to give this place 2 stars. Came here with a friend for some girl time. There was a good deal on Groupon for a 50 min scalp treatment with massage. This was a first for us so we were excited! Anyway, when we arrived, they said they couldn't take us in early so we waited. No problem. I was a bit shocked to see that I can peek thru the wall from the lobby to see people getting their service. It was a small open area/room with some lounge-like reclining chairs for blow drying and then a few beds with the hair washing tubs separated by curtains only. Nope, no private rooms! Maybe you don't get private rooms at head spas but it was just weird. In the same room is where they do their assessment so other customers are able to hear about how gross your scalp is. After that, I was ushered to my bed area. I'm assuming the tech couldn't speak English because she just motioned for me to undress and put on the towel, which is fine I guess. As soon as the treatment started, I had no clue what she was doing. It would've been nice (being that it was my first time) to have them kind of describe what they were doing or even ask if I liked the amount of pressure, temp of the water, etc. There was no communication at all! Well, just like someone also described in their review, it felt like she was clawing at my scalp. And the "massage"? Idk what that was but it wasn't a massage. It felt like she was just pushing my shoulders or shoving me left to right. It was kinda rough and uncomfortable. The whole experience felt rushed. Kinda like when, as a kid, your mom giving you a quick bath, scrubs your body and shampoos your hair super fast. No part of my experience was relaxing. So when my treatment was done, my tech took off my blindfold and then motioned me to get dressed. I was then told to sit in one of the reclining chairs. The blow dry was a fail. I have wavy hair and usually my hair will soften and lay flat with a blow dry. My hair was so frizzy and ugly and damp. They tried to fix it with some spray but I just threw it up in a bun and left. This was my first time trying and I feel that there were some nice touches, such as the massage, eye mask and water on the neck. To start, there was a very brief scalp evaluation with a camera, just a few inches of my scalp were shown to me. I was told my scalp is dry, the staff explained that the yellow that appeared on the screen indicates dry areas. I am not certain what credentials staff have to give this type of assessment. I was then informed of add on services- one for dry scalp. I feel if anything could improve it's the brush that is used when shampooing that I am sure is mean to massage the scalp, it was a little roughy and I have color treated hair. I feel that if the staff was more strategic and actually parted the hair in sections then used the brush it would have been more enjoyable instead of dragging it over the top. Also wish conditioner made it on to all of my hair and was left on for longer. In terms of the scalp treatment, it was a small device that delivers the "treatment" to the scalp; I didn't not personally see what was used and it the cost is $50. The staff assure me it was not water but then said it was water with vitamins. I can't say that I would purchase this type of service again, but it was nice to try and the staff seemed like she was trying to do a good job but unfortunately she was helping staff and answered the phone during my treatment which I feel took away from the experience read more
