The homemade apple pie is my favorite when I treat myself, only when I deserve it! But more than the pie and the other delicious and appetizing foods offered at Zed's, Zed himself is very hospitable and kind. Any establishment that takes the care to earn and retain your business must be supported. So, I urge you to go for the food, to lounge, to read, or to meet. I might see you there! read more

Zed's is a great, chill environment. Lots of really interesting things all around: art, pictures, books, ect. It has a nice living room feel to it. The coffee was great, I've gotten two of the daily roasts and a latte- they were all superb. The owner Zed is really friendly. Overall it's a great place to chill and enjoy a cup of coffee or do some work. It also has a nice big table where 4 people with books/laptops can do some work. Fast free WiFi.. I love it, I'm definitely going to go a couple more times while I'm in town. read more

Walked in early morning for breakfast. At first I wasnt sure of the place. It was still early and only one guy there. Felt more like a full time coffee shop than a traditional place for breakfast. But I did like the decor, so I stayed. I ordered the smoked salmon sandwich and a smoothie. Took a little longer than expected, but it was early. Food came out delicious and smoothie was good. Overall, awesome place to have breakfast and catch up with friends. read more

Zed's Cafe - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Silver Spring, Maryland

I did one of those arbitrary Yelp searches for somewhere about halfway between my friend (in Herndon, VA) and I (in Odenton, MD) to meet up for daytime drinkies and catch up conversation. Zed's had some great reviews, met the midway criteria, and it definitely did not disappoint. The decor is eclectic, homey, and incredibly relaxing. Music playing. A perfect 75 degrees on the thermostat. My friend and I enjoyed iced beverages and chatted comfortably for something like an hour. There's some construction out front but don't let that prevent you from stopping in. We didn't try any of the food (hence the four stars) but the berry tea I had was on point. Shout out the the lady behind us who hummed sweetly along with the music (Stand by Me, Unchained Melody, etc). I dig this place and will definitely go back. read more

This place is very accommodating to customers, takes pride in their work, and is a very cozy atmosphere in general. I highly recommend it.

Delicious breakfast croissant, yummy cappuccino, happy pregnant lady! Charming little spot and great service

comfy ethiopian coffee shop that is living room-esque. Great outdoor space. Live music on weekends. Yummy deserts, quiches, and coffee. Staff is very kid and quickly remembers you. read more

This is a great little coffee shop. I ordered a piece of apple pie and a latte. The only possible complaint I could have is that they had no vanilla bean ice cream for my apple pie, but it was so good, I didn't even notice. The coffee was flavorful, but not over roasted, like some chain coffee shops that will not be mentioned here. Zed's refers to itself as one big living room, and that description is on the money. If you are in Silver Spring, this is a must go for coffee and/or dessert. I definitely want to come back to give their food a try. read more

I'm always on the lookout for coffee shops that aren't Seattle-based and are locally owned. This place has a great vibe, good drinks, and pastries that are fine. read more

Cozy atmosphere and chill vibes. The quirky decorations add charm to this place. It's been my go-to spot to escape everyday life and get some writing done. As soon as I enter the place, my creative side automatically comes to a focus and I laser into my work. read more

The Salmon sandwich is delicious and leaves a long after taste. The chai tea is exactly what you want when you order it and the mango juice was fresh and smooth. The owner is a very nice guy and he has a good feel for setting the atmosphere in the place. The Wifi always works well. The only negative is parking. Some of the meters outside have a one hour limit, which can be annoying. But overall, a great place to converse with someone, or get some work done, or just chill and read a book. I will be a regular here. read more

I came here hangry at noon after having missed breakfast. I ordered the egg breakfast sandwich and a cappuccino. The sandwich came on a buttery croissant. The egg omelet inside was flavorful, well-cooked, and satisfying. The cappuccino had a 2 inch thick layer of steamed milk foam on top and was good till the last sip. The décor looked like your white grandmother decided not to have a garage sale and instead open a coffee shop. It was homely and comfortable. The music was relaxing. The crowd was diverse. There was an elderly gentleman sipping coffee, a young student studying for the LSAT, and several young and middle aged couples enjoying food and coffee while working on laptops. I would highly recommend this coffee shop to anyone looking for coffee or simple yet satisfying breakfast/brunch options. The only caveat would be against coming here with a large group, as the seating and noise level does not lend itself to a group of more than 3 or 4. read more

My wife and I have had breakfast at Zed's twice over the past couple of years, and it's been great both times. Today, we had each had their breakfast sandwich; my wife had the vegetarian version, and I had the one with bacon. Both were basically an omelette on a buttered croissant, with a great side salad and a couple of orange slices. Zed served me a giant mug of coffee to go with the meal; I didn't run out. Totally satisfying food and ambiance on a Sunday morning. We'll be going back! read more

This place is such a treat! I came here on a Saturday morning, there was delightful music, comfortable seats, friendly staff, and their ginger lemon tea was amazing! read more

I LOVE this place! It is amazing! I only recently discovered it and I've been there several times since. The employees are very nice and care very much about their service. Case in point: today, I ordered an omelette on a croissant (which is amazing, by the way) and she told me that it would be a few minutes because there was an order ahead of me for the same thing. I sat down and read a book for a few minutes while waiting, expecting to wait a reasonable amount of time. I hadn't been waiting long at all when she brought me a cookie, apologizing for "taking so long!" Then for a few minutes later, my meal came. That's just an example of the type of service they give. They're truly amazing! Also, the feel of the place is very much like a living room away from home. Not only do they have different size tables, but they also have couch and some arm chairs as well. I can't say enough about this place. It's just amazing! read more

This place is exactly as advertised: "one big living room". This is the coffee shop for when you want to be able to hang out for a long time, but also when you want something to eat or just to grab a coffee. It feels exactly like someone just started serving coffee in their own house and inviting others to come and relax. Most of the customers were working on laptops or ordering a coffee to go, and I spent a very comfortable few hours there, having a lovely omelette, a latte, and splurging on a piece of cheesecake. Definitely check this place out. read more

This place reminds me of Central Perk from Friends! Their coffee is good and the people who work there are nice! Also went here to see live music from Kira Velella. read more

I love this place! It meets all of my criteria for the perfect cafe spot. - Chill and unassuming with a personal charm. - Free and speedy wifi - I can hide away here and get any reading or work done in peace. - Delicious food. Especially the omelettes! - and most importantly, PRICED JUST RIGHT! Also, the owner, Zed, is a really kind guy who who genuinely cares about his customers. I am happy to support this local establishment. read more

My go-to spot on Sundays. The vibe of this place is great - calming subtle music with slow chatter pairs great with their coffee. I'm not a coffee critic but I'm always pleased with the taste. The food isn't bad, but not the place to go if you want a lot of options. They do have wifi, just limited number of outlets. The service is hit or miss. A couple times for me it's been great - very attentive young and diverse folks treating you with respect. More than once I've had the server forget about something I ordered and had to remind them. Overall it's a nice little community spot to chill with friends or spend some time alone. read more

Awesome place! Very nice staff. I'll be returning. The food was amazing and the house blend tea was delicious.

this place is the best.. owner is friendly and cares about his customers. he took the time to explain all the types of teas to a first time customer and now im a regular there. tea selection is awesome! read more

I went to Zed's to get some work done and found the ambiance and selection of odd chairs perfect for this purpose. The barista was engaging and the coffee was fantastic. The cappuccino I had was both excellent and large. The food also looked amazing although I was only jealously looking at other people's plates. read more

This is a warm, friendly place. The chairs are great. When I first went to this cafe by myself, I was offered a complimentary dessert. On another occasion, I left a personal item. I did not realize it until several weeks had gone by. They stored it, hoping that I would return. They could have just tossed it. It was an external CD rom player for my laptop. It is nice to have a place where original teas are served. Parking isn't the best, but that is the same for all over downtown Silver Spring. I've parked in the Wayne Street garage and walked to Zed's. It isn't that bad of a walk in comfortable shoes on a spring or fall day. read more

I really enjoyed your band tonight (3/29/14 Friday) I normally don't like free stuff but everybody was listening to everybody and it was interesting with harmonies and very cool original rhythms. That's one real thing the drummer, Robin Ghertner, brings to the table fantastic creative rhythms. For a "free" band it was really tight. I I really enjoyed the whole thing. But I have to say that Robin's music schooling and his exposure to Asian music, Latin music, and irregular time signatures and feel add great freshness to the music. The difference between this and early free music is that the whole band sort of gets into the unusual rhythms with a "world music" feel without sounding hokey or folksy. It swings. Also, the veteran horn players know all the cliches and can enjoy them or avoid them. You can hear Mingus, Monk, and Archie Shepp in there too. They can also spoof on standards or respect bits of them. This is a very unselfish band, which is really important when playing "free". There was a great selection of drinks and baked goods. Iced tea was different and good. Cool place to hang. Steve read more

Great place. They are all very friendly and their Cappuccino is awesome. It's the perfect place to go relax and also have some work done.

This is my new home away from home. Zed's Cafe has the calm relaxing one needs to escape from the busyness of life. Drinks are reasonable priced, music is always on point and the back patio is a welcomed retreat. Great place to work. Free WiFi read more

Not bad at all. But $5 minimums at a coffee joint is a PITA. I'm sorry that it costs 50 cents per transaction and then some change but no one carries cash and no one wants to buy $5 of coffee. It's just a bad business model. You take the hit to get the customer base who will bring friends and buy more things on the weekend to compensate. I honestly only even tried them just because Kaldi's bathroom was out of order, I kid you not. read more

Good environment, nice people, and the coffee's ok. Came here once when the espresso machine was down but the owner was super accommodating and did his best with the machine to make us a cappuccino. We've also come other times and tried their macchiato which is ok (not over roasted). read more

Had a great cup of coffee and really dig the atmosphere. If you are looking for an old school coffee shop you will love Zeds.

We visited this lovely bohemian cafe and really enjoyed our time there. I had the smoked salmon sandwich with an iced latte and my companion the turkey sandwich and a canned drink. We were both pleasantly surprised by how good the food was! Our side salads were freshly made for us on the spot. The bread for our sandwich was warm. Our meals were simple but delicious with very good quality ingredients. The iced latte was a little weak but enjoyable nonetheless. The atmosphere was inviting and relaxing. There was only one staff member present while we were at the cafe, he was wonderful, courteous, and a pleasure to interact with. I enjoyed my time there and can't wait to return. read more
