Soggy fires and stingy with the chicken. There are too many decent restaurants in Chiefland to have to pay for standard fast food slop.

Bett's Big T - Fried shrimp platter with a side of fries Smoked ribs meal with collard greens, mac n cheese, and peach cobbler

I've always kinda liked Bett's Big T but also used to have reservations about it. Back circa 2015,…read moreit was pretty run down, looked pretty grim honestly. I guess it began as a truck stop decades ago and then became solely a restaurant. Anyways, they have had a cosmetic refresh, painting the building, adding cute signage including some features explaining Bett's long history, and just made the dining rooms a down-home but clean and inviting place now. This goes a long way: I am all for hole-in-the-wall restaurants but you don't want a place to look dirty, either. Bett's no longer does. It looks comfortable and plain-spoken, honest, and home town now. The food has always been good. You get a menu dinner or daily special--things like chicken fried steak or liver and onions or fried mullet--and a choice of three sides. The sides range from mac-n-cheese and collards to normally a couple homemade desserts: the peach cobbler and strawberry cake both are not to be missed. Portions are generous. Their Friday and Saturday all-you-can-eat seafood dinner is also a real deal and good food. Red velvet cake, caramel cake, and lemon cake are hits too but less frequent in their menu appearances. Ford hook limas sometimes show up too, slowly cooked with bacon or ham and are awesome. The painting and general interior and exterior refresh really went a long ways with me to have greater confidence in Bett's. It's now easily a place I rank with some of the region's best country/Southern cooking restaurants.

Bless their heart, they tried. We visit the area regularly and visited Bett's at the suggestion of…read morea friend. We knew it was a renovated truck stop so we weren't expecting much decor as we walked into the messy dining room. However, I was still looking forward to a yummy homestyle meal. Unfortunately, from the sticky tables to the slow waitresses, the visit only went down from there. My daughters ordered the chicken fingers and boneless wings, and both were barely lukewarm and lacking flavor and proper chicken texture somehow. My husband ordered the patty melt, which was literally just that...a hamburger patty and some cheese melted on top on white bread. However, the star of the show was my liver and onions, a classic from my childhood. It doesn't take much to impress me with this classic meal though, and it didn't overweigh the slow service and filth of the restaurant. All of our tummies were a little bit upset after leaving, so we won't be visiting again.

Diamond in the rough! I was looking for a place to eat and use the restroom and saw this on Yelp…read more We didn't realize you could go in because it looked like drive through only, which was fine. We got in line and while it took a long time (so if you are in a hurry don't stop during lunchtime!) the food was delicious!! The burger was very fresh and juicy and the fries tasted like they were fries in something that would cook pastries! Very flavorful! So glad we took a chance on this place! Will definitely stop again on our journeys to Tallahassee (I only wish we had discovered it years ago!)

Truthfully, there is not too much to this place. The restaurant is primarily drive-thru, having two lanes on each side of the building. There is also a walk-up window at the front that you can order at as well. They have a breakfast menu that is served until 11AM, and then their regular lunch and dinner menu available for the rest of the day following. On a typical visit, I find myself stopping here for breakfast. There are several options, but my absolute favorite is the Sausage, Egg and Cheese with Double Meat. One thing to note is that their breakfast sandwiches come on hamburger buns, instead of something like a bagel or a biscuit. It makes them unique, and truthfully one of my favorite breakfast sandwiches of all time. Their fountain drinks are the best, as I can never visit without getting a nice, crispy Diet Coke to sip on. Also, I have had their milkshakes, and they are a delight! I would recommend mixing the Oreo and the Peanut Butter - yum! Personally, I feel this place has an excellent value for the price. For two people to eat breakfast and get drinks, we usually spend around $16 dollars. We typically switch up exactly what we get, so it's always different, but I always think that it is a great value no matter what. Recently, they have implemented a 3.5% fee for using a credit card, so I would recommend paying in cash to avoid the fee if possible. The staff here is always friendly and hospitable. It seems like they retain a lot of staff and they usually work the same shifts, so they get to recognizing their customers and knowing them. Even with operating a drive-thru and wanting to likely get customers through, they still take the time to converse and provide a great experience. The owner is very friendly, and you can tell he takes great pride in both the establishment and the customer experience. I am not local to the Chiefland area, but I look forward to eating at Ralph's each time I come to town. I would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a quick bite to eat, with excellent customer service, and all for a great value.
