My massage was incredibly relaxing. I asked for more pressure, but it stayed light ... okay. I can deal. It still made me sleepy and relaxed. The spa beverages include fruit infused water and teas. There were some whole fruits available, too. Seems minimalistic to me when I'm used to the famous cantaloupe juice, assorted berries and shortbread cookies at another Houston area spa. The relaxation rooms were set up nicely with twin sized beds and individual partitions. Great for napping. There was in "infrared" sauna (dry sauna) in the ladies dressing area, but no hot tubs, spas, float pools, steam rooms, rain showers, etc. Sad trombone. There was minimal water pressure in the showers and basic toiletries. I cannot imagine making room for yourself in the locker room on a busy day. There is one tiny bench to sit and change on. I need to sit. I'm 8months pregnant. And the room was no bigger than a walk in closet. There were two other women there and it was terribly cramped. If you go to just have your service and leave, then zaspa is great, but if you want to linger, relax and enjoy all the extras then go to the place with the cantaloupe juice and shortbread cookies. read more

My husband and I decided to visit ZaSpa for the first time. We're huge fans of the Zaza restaurants, Monarch and Dragonfly, as well as their lovely decor and famous suites. Given the terrible neck pain I was having, we signed up for a Rockstar Massage. It was our first hot stone massage, and we loved it! The stones weren't placed on our backs as they are at most advertised spas, instead they were rubbed on our bodies to aid circulation and loosen muscles. My neck loved that! My masseuse really focused on my specified targeted areas and did a great job. I felt so relaxed afterward. It was pretty perfect and a great pre-Anniversary gift for ourselves. So, why not five stars? We usually enjoy a quiet, peaceful spa environment with soothing music, but ZaSpa had some really talkative customers and upbeat music in the Women's Lounge (and my husband said in the Men's Lounge as well). So, aside from that, it was well worth the experience. We are so happy to have found a good massage deal in Houston that isn't unreasonable or sketchy. read more

Bad experience at ZaSpa. I arrived for my appointment and they said, "hurry the clock has already started ticking for your massage." I would have been happy to arrive early if needed, but it was never communicated to me when I made the appointment that I needed to arrive early. I hurry to change, I can't figure out how the lockers work, and of course no one is there to help me. My massage time is just ticking away. I'm ready for massage and they take me to a hotel room because the actual spa rooms are under construction. When I booked my appointment, no one communicated that to me either. As I'm getting my massage, they are vacuuming in the hall loudly. NOT A ZEN EXPERIENCE AT ALL. After my message, I can't get the infra red beams in the sauna to work, of course no one helps me with that either. Getting a massage some how turned into a stressful event! I chose this spa to get my massage for SpaWeek. I made the wrong choice. I should have checked the reviews here first! I'm a massage whore and get them as much as possible. I filled out the questionnaire in the beginning which is supposed to assess what my needs were. The questionnaire was actually kind of amusing. Under the section for health problems it listed 'Left Handed' and 'Road Rage' lol....there were a couple other jokes in there as well. Anyway, the changing room was like a big locker room. I put my stuff up and got cozy in my robe and too-small rubber slippers. The massage itself just didn't cut it. I told her to focus on my upper back for the most part. She spent all of maaaybe 5 minutes on my upper back. She did do a good job on my neck though. She also massaged the area around my temples and forehead, which I wasn't expecting or wanting...especially since she got oil all up in my hair. The rest of the massage was just.....meh....I said I wanted firm pressure and I felt almost nothing. It was a semi-relaxing experience, at least....although the room was pretty frigid. When I was leaving, there was no one up at the front desk. I stood there for a few minutes before I had to go try and find someone. If there wasn't a security camera there, I would have just left. I shouldn't have to track someone down to pay for my massage. And yeah, it says they add 18% gratuity to the bill, but they added 20%. They do at least indicate that they add gratuity on their website now. When all is said and done, just pass on this spa. There are so many better options out there. Mamma needed some hometown R&R, and after a killer 2012, I decided, what the hell, I'm worth it right? That combined with an upcoming conference, I needed to look in tip top shape! I had gotten a 10th anniversary email from Hotel Zaza, and was all over it. I just need an excuse to book a day of pampering, and this email was just the right nudge I needed. Currently, they are running some good specials, of buy one 50 minute treatment, get one for $10 (plus tip of course) and I promptly booked. This past rainy, cold Saturday, I rolled up to the hotel, and was greeted as always with a smile, and promptly. While receiving any spa services, the valet is comped! My day started with a 10 a.m. appointment, with one of the best facials I had ever had. I had gotten a facial before, so knew what to expect, but this time I opted for the 80 minute treatment which included getting scrubbed, buffed, and extracted to the hilt. They use all organic products, which with my problem skin works great. It was just the right amount of talking without too much, and the perfect amount of product knowledge, without a hard sell. Walking out of there, my skin glowed, and looked AMAZING! The second treatment was a hot stone massage that started off with an espresso body scrub head to toe. It was heavenly. The scrub smelled fantastic, and made my skin baby's butt soft. The hot stone massage that followed could have been a bit more deep for my liking, but it definitely did the trick from a relaxation standpoint, and my muscles felt unwind-ed, and stress free. The day ended with a dip in one of their huge gigantic bathtubs with plenty of lotions and potions and jets. It was a nice touch, but at $50, I could have done it at my casa. The spa also has a steam room, tanning bed, and cool oxygen beds you can lay in and relax between, before, or after treatments. The service is top notch, and with any spa package, or treatment, you receive full use of the hotel's gym and pool (which is gorgeous) Granted, Zaza doesn't come cheap (all prices are listed online) but it's the perfect Valentine's gift, couples day, pre wedding, or gift to yourself. read more

I'm a local (live 3 miles away) and was looking for a nice way to relax with my husband one weekend. Called a few days before then went there on Saturday for a couples stone messages. Had a really lovely time, they are well organized, clean, classy and besides thinking that the entire hotel is too dark, I was very happy with the experience. Spa services grant you access to the pool (there is a door man who checks if your name is on the list) so afterwards we lounged by the pool and had lunch and drinks- hot chick sandwich and fries and two skinny ritas for me and two stellas for my gentleman. The pool was very clean, refreshing and a variety of respectable people there of all ages. Plenty of attendants and great service. Would recommend this spot for a luxury get away anytime. read more

Massages! I love them! When SpaWeek arrived I was thrilled ($50 = a steal), my friend and I both made appointments at ZaSpa because we had heard such great things. When we walked in and changed into the robes, I have to say I was looking forward to the massage. The robe is by far the softest most AWESOME-est robe ever. True story. I got taken back to the room where I would get my massage. This is where things turn south. You definitely need oil/lotion something to help reduce the friction when getting a massage. HOWEVER, I do not want to feel like I'm about to be deep-fried! There was an overwhelming amount of oil poured on me and absolutely no friction for a bit. Repeat this for both arms and legs. When I was face up, the therapist reached his arms under my back. I'm use to this, what I wasn't use to was the close proximity of our faces, I could feel and smell his breath on my face...which let's be honest -- is a little awkward and just weird. I did peek real quick only to realize his face was about 3 inches away from mine. The one redeeming quality is that I asked for firm pressure to get some of my knots out, and he delivered. My upper back was sore for almost 2 days. At the end I was given hot towels (good lord did I need them) to wipe off the excess oil. I have to say next year for SpaWeek, I'll probably most likely choose a different spa. P.S. I agree with Daniela C., it does feel like a big bathroom....and there's only one toilet! read more

I really wanted to love this place but it was just "eh". I can't really put my finger on one thing that stood out either way. When checking in at other spas, I've found a quiet professionalism. Here - not so much. I don't think it is the employees fault but how they are used to doing things here. They check you in, lead you to the locker area and basically tell you to find an open one. There was no other direction. It was my first time there and they didn't show me around and what the spa offerings were. Basically -- you can wait over there until someone calls you. My treatment was just 'eh' too. It wasn't particularly relaxing. It wasn't much of anything one way or another. The steam room did not make me work up a sweat. At least the bathrooms and locker rooms are relatively clean. To me going to spa is special. I don't get to do it often so it makes me kick myself to try somewhere new that didn't meet expectations. I have had really good massages at Za Spa before...but this review is about a manicure/pedicure experience I had last Friday, April 12th. I had a friend in from out of town and wanted to go somewhere nice to have a girls day and have our nails done. The spa is really nice and the manicure/pedicure space is comfortable. They have nice leather chairs that recline when you are getting your toes painted. My pedicure looks good---definitely not the best one I've had (I've had better results at salons that charge much less as well as similar higher end spas like Trellis) but it was a good/okay pedicure and it was relaxing. My issue is with the manicure. I got the mani/pedi on Friday, the day before my baby shower so that my nails would look nice for that special ocassion. Imagine my surprise when by the very next day I had chips on 7 out of 10 of my nails. Not just teeny tiny chips either, major chips that conitnued to get worse and worse as each day went on. I have never in my life had a manicure that chipped so quickly. My own manicures that I do myself at home do not chip that quickly, even without a top coat. I called the spa on Sunday and told them about the issue and expressed how this has never happened with any other manicure and how extensive the chipping was. I even asked if they wanted me to email them photos I had taken on my iPhone of the damage since I realize anyone can call and say they are unhappy (they didn't ask me to email anything but of course I still have them saved). I suggested I come in for a polish change or get a discount on my service. I was put on hold so the girl could talk to her manager and when she came back she told me they would "put a note on my file" so that the next time I came in I would get a discount. I felt that didn't really address the issue. I am hesistant to get another manicure there because of the quality (or lack thereof) of this one and I wish that instead of a discount they would have just offered to do a polish change on a date of my choosing so that I could see if round two would last any longer. Hotel ZaZa is one of my favorite spots in the summer---their pool is amazing, the food is great and overall I've had good experiences at the spa---this just wasn't one of them which is why I gave 3 stars. So bottom line---will I still come to ZaZa and Za Spa? Yes. But not for manicures. Save your money and go somewhere for $25 or $30. Not as pretty---but your nails will look better, longer. read more

I was gifted a gift card to partake in their spa services and let me just say that they are pricey. I arrived at my appointment about thirty minutes early so I decided I would use this time to read the reviews on Za Spa. After reading all of them I almost wanted to cancel my appointment but I remembered they had my card on hold so yea definitely didn't cancel. lol. I decided to get the Za experience for myself and see if it met my approval. The Spa is located on the 2nd floor to the left of the elevators. When I entered the lady at the desk was checking out another lady. I did feel that it took her a moment to say hello but I'm no stickler for immediate hellos as long as one is said and she did greet me after she wrapped up with the lady. She led me to the waiting room that is on the opposite side of the nail salon. I only had to wait about five minutes after my appointment time which isn't bad at all. Once it was my turn my sweet nail tech came over to introduce herself and she led me to where I would be getting my manicure and pedicure. I was the only one in there which was perfect. My only complaint is that it was a bit nippy in there then again I am always cold so maybe that's my problem and not theirs. The nail tech was very sweet and informative about everything she was going to do and what she was going to use. She was very knowledgeable about feet. Yes I was asking all kinds of questions. She didn't even mind that she had to do extra work to remove the shellac which I had no idea was such a pain to remove. Not painful as in hurt but painful as in an extra charge for removal. I was able to get some reading done while I was there which was great. She was respectful of the fact that I wasn't very talkative and allowed me to read. I love that the chair reclines to the back so as she is working on your feet you literally get to kick back and relax. Oh there is an automatic 20% gratuity charge already added to your bill. read more

I was excited to go get my massage on at ZaSpa during SpaWeek. Unfortunately, I left disappointed with my massage. I expected a higher quality experience because it is Hotel ZaZa.... I wanted to get some kinks out before biking in the MS150 ride, I guess I could have been more vocal about it but I just didnt enjoy my experience. First off, I cant even remember the guy's name because I wasnt too impressed. About 5-10 minutes into the massage, someone interrupted and requested us to move to a different room. Im pretty sure this ruined the whole zen moment. We moved into half a room smaller which was crappier and he didn't even play music, it was awkward for about 15 minutes until I asked if he can turn the music on. Apparently he didnt know how to work the system in the new room. He finally got it to work but my swedish massage just didn't cut it for me. He didnt take the hint when I asked in the beginning to be firm or to focus more on my shoulders/back bc I was really tight in that area. Do they even take the time to read all that pre-work in the beginning??! Because mine sure didnt! Another negative is parking. If you dont want to valet it, find parking in the hermann park area. That part sucks. Only thing I want to rave about is the nice robes, shower amenity and steam room! I took advantage of the steam room for the lack of a great massage, steam room was aaaaaamazing! I took my sweet little time in there :) And I cant believe they charged gratuity with the total, the service I received just didn't deserve the amount they added. read more

I recently went to Zaspa with my sister and mother. My sister and I had the aromatherapy massages while my mom had the deep cleansing facial. We valet and the attendant let us know that the spa would validate our valet ticket. That was a nice surprise. The spa is on the second floor on the same level as the pool. As soon as the elevators open there is the pool which I plan to definitely visit this summer. As soon as we came in the receptionist greeted us. She was very indifferent and wasn't at all welcoming to us. We filled out our paper work and was shown back to the changing area. Like others have said, the robes are extra plushy and nice. They had everything you need in the changing area, including all toiletries to refresh after the spa sessions. After we change, we went into the waiting area for our therapists. My therapist greeted me and showed me back to the room. She asked me to pick out the essential oil for my massage. It was an amazing massage. I also loved that the beds are heated or had an heating pad under neath. It helped my muscles relax a lot quicker then other massages. My mother was also very satisfied with her facial. Her esthetican gave her a bunch of samples to take home. I also loved the oxygen bar that they have there and it is complimentary. You pick out an essential oil, laid back in one of there comfy beds, relax, and breathe in the oxygen. I honestly don't know if it made any difference, but the eucalyptus scent I picked was refreshing for sure. Overall I was very happy with my spa visit. My party really liked our therapists, but as for the front desk I believe that they need a bit more refinement to be at a spa of this caliber. read more

Even though I came to ZaSpa for a not relaxing service (waxing) I felt so relaxed! I was able to get an appointment the day I called. They were so nice and friendly on the phone and even told me I could use the valet parking and they would validate it. I arrived and they had me fill out the normal paper work for a first time visit. Then I was lead to the relaxation room with water, fruit, comfy chairs and relaxing music. I was offered a robe and locker for my purse but declinded since it was facial waxing. I sat there for about 5 minutes. Then I was escorted back to the room where my waxing would happen. The room was very relaxing also. The tables you lay on are heated! Even in the summer it was wonderful. There was also a tiny crystal chandilier in the room. It made me feel fancy. The waxing was as painless as it can be. My waxer knew everything to ask about what type works on me and exactly where I wanted waxed. She was great! Felt very comfortable. And she put that stuff on after to make your face not hurt as much after your hair has been torn out of your face. She also let me know that if you use the spa you can use the pool! Which was packed when I was there with a bodyguard outside so you can't pool crash. The prices were very reasonable. They were what I expected. They do add a service charge which equaled to be able what I would have tipped so I didn't mind. I will be back! read more

My sister and I went there for a girls spa day, and the services were perfect. The pampering starts when you arrive at the ZaZa Hotel, because valet parking is free for spa guests. The hotel itself feels very hollywood, with modern furniture and artwork in the foyer. Once in the spa, the relaxation area was the perfect way to unwind prior to our appointments. My deep tissue massage was amazing (note: this is intense - for experienced spa-goers only!), and my back felt better than it had in weeks. In fact, I think this was the best massage I've ever had - and that includes the Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok. My sister also enjoyed her Sweedish massage. We used the steam room and laid by the pool afterwards, creating an entire day of luxury out of our hour-long appointments. My only regret is that I can't remember my masseuse's name! read more

This is one of those times where I'm really missing W Hotels and their Bliss Spas. Please Bliss -- come to Houston. To celebrate my new job, I booked a solid spa day during my staycation. I didn't find many spas with awesome reviews on Yelp, and the Za Spa's menu looked good. It's awkward to have to call for pricing though -- what year is this? Post that online. Come on. My scrub was effective but really fast and certainly something you could do at home, no problem. I've had them before where there's a little more massage in it, so it's worth it. This was just OK. My facial was a total waste of time. I am blessed with few skin problems, but not one extraction? Cover Girl I'm not. It seemed like she just waved a Clairsonic over my face. (I own a Clairsonic. This is not a big deal.) Finally, the best part was sitting in a bathtub full of jets and aromatherapy oil. I really wanted a day of relaxing, but not at this price. Maybe I can get some fancy thing put into our bathtub. Also, automatically charging 20 percent gratuity is a huge rip. Nice hotel so you'd expect a bit more from the spa. I took my mom here for a massage for her 60th Bday and SHE said it was the best massage she ever had. I tried the oxygen treatment and just hung around and there are very few amenities at the spa and the environment is overall mehh. I expected more out of the whole experience but mom was happy. Also the shop doesn't have any good skincare or body care brands... they are all terrible brands and I wanted the products to be much higher-end. I may sound picky but really if you pay the money to go to a nice hotel spa you'd expect a bit more. If you want a good massage - this is great but if you want the whole spa experience and to spend the day getting pampered... don't come here. there is no sauna, no steamroom, no whirlpool, NOTHING. only treatment rooms. read more

Treated myself to a massage for my birthday and it was quite possibly the worst I've ever received. The therapist hadn't shaved his arms in two or three days. It basically felt like I was being rubbed down by a cactus for an hour and a half because to really get in there he was using his forearms. The facility itself is underwhelming as well. The waiting area it a tiny room with a sofa and three other chairs. There is a dry sauna and lockers and that's about it. I won't be back and I make sure my friends steer clear as well. read more

The spa itself was very nice, but the massage was terrible. I had a Swedish massage and paid $180 for 50 min. Even before my massage started, the therapist was trying to get me to upgrade to a deep tissue. Then she proceeded to give me a massage with the worst/lightest pressure I've ever had in my life during a massage (I get massages regularly). I could barely feel her massage. It was so annoying. I literally tried to go to sleep so I wouldn't be annoyed the whole 50 minutes. When I first heard about SpaWeek, I was ecstatic! My coworker gets to take his clients golfing all the time, but I don't golf, so I don't get to do "fun things" with my clients. However, I figured - a pedicure would be the best relationship building activity that I know my female client can't turn down! So I booked 2 pedicure appointments here on the first day of SpaWeek. They informed me up front that there would be an $15 service charge - which sucks, but at least they told me up front. My appointment(s) were at 3:00pm on a Monday afternoon. As of that morning, I still hadn't received a confirmation of my appointments - so I started calling at 11:00am to confirm them. It would be so embarrassing to show up to a spa and have some kind of scheduling conflict while my client was standing right there. The number I had for them was for the Hotel, but they had no problem transferring me. The first time I called, it went straight to voicemail so I left a message explaining my situation, saying I just wanted a confirmation. Called a second time, went straight to voicemail, so I hung up. Then when I was in a meeting for work I missed a call from a girl who called and said "I got your message, we would be delighted to schedule an appointment for you. Just give us a call back with what works for you." .........Uh, are you kidding? So I proceeded to call FIVE MORE TIMES leaving 2 more voicemails. One of the times I even told the gal on the hotel side that I needed to wait on hold and she needed to go and physically find someone and hand the phone to them. After waiting on hold for 8 minutes, the damn thing when to voicemail - again. It was this time that I left an angry voicemail. I finally got a call back from Za Spa AS I WAS GOING TO PICK UP MY CLIENT! She did not apologize for the delay. She said "Hi. You have 2 appointments at 3:00." And then hung up. Once we got there, I knew my reception would be cold after receiving that call. There were 3 people at the front when we walked in and not one girl smiled. The actual appointment was great. I forget the gals name that did my pedicure, but she was from Fort Worth and I loved her. When we went to check out, they said their printer wasn't working, so she would have to email us our receipts. I said that was no problem and gave her my email. She thanked me (without a smile) and said I would have it before that evening. .... Well come Thursday, I still didn't have the receipt. I had given her my work email, so thought maybe my spam blocker caught it or something. So I called Thursday morning and asked for it again, giving my work and personal email address. I also asked why there were 2 charges on my credit card - a $120 charge and an $18 charge. She didn't know but said she would find out and get my receipt. It is now Friday afternoon and I STILL don't have a receipt. I called again (weird, I got the voicemail) and left another message. I have to have the receipt for my expense report! I am SO SO SO frustrated with this spa, I will NEVER recommend it, nor will I ever return. For claiming to be one of the nicest spas in Houston - they need to fire their entire staff (with the exception of my pedicure gal) and rehire. Disappointing. IN SUMMARY - NO CONFIRMATION, DON'T LISTEN TO THEIR CLIENTS, TERRIBLE AT ANSWERING/RETURNING CALLS, UNFRIENDLY, CANNOT FOLLOW THROUGH WITH A SIMPLE TASK THEY SAID THEY WOULD DO. read more

I went to Za Spa a couple of weekends ago. I was in town and wanted a day at the spa. I was scheduled to have a massage, a body treatment, a facial and a mani pedi. The waiting area was very small. There was a few people in there when i first arrived but it was still quiet and easy to relax. The robes are very comfy but the slippers i was given had to have been a size 6...I mean can a lady get an average 8 around here....geez...lol...There was a couple in the waiting room that ordered cocktails. I was never offered that option. I noticed it took a long time for them to get their drinks and they were told there was a wedding in the hotel and the bar was backed up. The massage was wonderful. I'm not sure what her name was but i fell right asleep . And i felt wonderful the next day. I opted for the Tia golden body treatment and it was GREAT!!.....It left a nice glowy/sparkly finish for a few days after. Jamie did mine and she was really nice and made me feel comfortable. She was also excited about this treatment and had good things to say which was refreshing. My facial was OK.nothing to write home about....my skin felt good afterward but there was really nothing special about it. Now this is were things went down hill. When the young lady took me out of the facial room she went on and on about the oxygen beds and then noticed i had a mani pedi appt next. So i missed out on those. Instead she took me in to the room where they do nails and it was so small. I mean really small. There were three chairs for the pedicures and a few nail color selections on the wall. When i entered the room there was a lady giving a pedicure and i picked out my color and i stood around for a little while and i finally asked her where she would like me to go. She just pointed at a chair and didn't say anything. Then an older lady came in and told me to come sit in a chair for my mani.....She had me sit in a roller chair and put her desk against the wall.....I was literally shoved against the wall and couldn't go anywhere...After she finished painting my nails which looked TERRIBLE....she asked me if i liked the color and i told her it was fine and she looked and me and said well go get another color....Did i mention i was shoved against the wall and we were sitting knee to knee...I mean how was i supposed to stand up...she then pulled a small nail dryer from the cabinet and asked me if i needed to dry my nails...then she plugged it up and left the room.....I sat there for about 20 mins and a couple came in to have a pedi right....So i ended up sitting there another 45 mins, shoved against the wall....I know that the spa can't help loud annoying couples but i could tell the other lady was pretty annoyed also...Just as I was fixing to tell someone i had somewhere i needed to be and not to worry about doing the pedi the couple was done and someone finally came in to do my pedi....By this point i didnt even care and was ready to leave.....and once again they have no nail dryer so i sat there having to wait for my nails to dry bc i wasnt going to stick my feet in the little walmart dryer. I ended up just leaving the nail room and changing back into my cloths, paying and leaving, I paid a pretty penny for not so great service...I would go back for a body treatment from Jamie but thats about it. .. read more

Ahhh, SpaWeek, the two times a year I can afford to treat myself to facials and body scrubs. This poor graduate student loves her some SpaWeek! For those who do not know, SpaWeek is like restaurant week, where spas offer their typically expensive treatments for $50. The one downside is that since I can only go twice a year,so, typically, my spa experience consists of whoever is giving me my treatment explaining to me why I need it more often. I still heart it though. I went to ZaSpa for a facial today. I was really excited because a) I could use some pampering, b) facial day fell on the day I typically go to pilates, meaning I got to have what I like to call trophy wife day and c) since I moved to Houston, I've noticed some changes in my skin -- from pollution, humidity, etc -- and I was looking forward to getting some advice about it. Varesa (I don't know if I spelled that right, but she said its like Teresa but with a V), did my facial and she did a great job. She offered a bunch of suggestions for my skin, sadly, I couldn't afford the products at ZaSpa (go figure!), but I can go buy a clay mask elsewhere and see if it helps. She listened to my concerns, did a thorough job and even tried to find me samples of the products I couldn't afford. If these facials were $50 normally, I would go get one every 2 mos. Sadly, they aren't. The facility was nice, typical fancy spa bathrobes, big lockers for your things, decked out bathroom of fun toiletries, flavored water, chill music etc. They had a few jokes on their little health waiver questionnaire, which I appreciated.
