I want to start by saying this isn't a bad place - I'm just sharing my experience so others know what to expect, especially given the price point. I get massages regularly (at least once a month), and this was my first time trying a place in Houston. The space itself feels quite dated and very minimal - not necessarily an issue, but it does affect the overall experience. I personally prefer disposable covers/linens because they feel cleaner to me, and that's something | look for when | go to a new place. The massage itself was... okay. Not bad, but not particularly great either. One thing to be aware of is that whatever is listed on their menu isn't exactly what you'd usually expect. It's a very unique style of massage that I personally hadn't experienced before, so it feels quite different. If you're expecting a traditional deep tissue or hot stone massage, it may not align with that expectation - so I'd recommend asking questions beforehand to be sure it's what you're looking for. Another thing I noticed was the use of oil - it felt excessive and a bit messy (including getting into my hair), and overall the technique didn't feel very structured or polished. That said, this could vary depending on the therapist, and I don't want to judge the entire place based on one experience. I personally tried it because I had ClassPass credits to use, and while I wouldn't rush back, others might have a better experience depending on what they're looking for. Overall, just go in with clear expectations and make sure you understand the type of massage you're booking. read more

Incredible experience. I have been coming to Cheeva Som sporadically for more than a decade. I appreciate being able to make an emergency appointment if I'm suffering from a migraine or shoulder tension, but I've never had a dedicated therapist until now. I always opt for a female masseuse, but a friend recommended Mario and I'm so grateful she did. He immediately made me feel comfortable and he focused on the areas where I needed extra attention. I slept better than I have in months! read more

I get massages pretty regularly & this was by far the best massage I have ever received. I feel like I'm in my 20's again! MARIO is the absolute best! He asks questions, LISTENS & then implements what you asked for in the massage!!! read more

Love love. New fav place. Great massage. Best I've ever had. Going every month now. So great.

I've been coming to Cheeva now for 6 years now and every time I come I feel so welcomed and taken care of. Everyone of the staff is amazing at what they do. I moved out of state and still come every 2 weeks for a massage when I'm in town for work, Gina has been massaging me the past couple of times and she is fantastic I highly recommended this place !!! read more

Wow! Gina was awesome. This was the best massage I've had in a while. They did exactly what I asked and was very happy with the prompt start time and quality of work. I'll be back! read more

Holy cow. I feel like a brand new person leaving this place. Booked a 60 min Thai & Swedish combo with Nadia and she was AMAZING. The price is definitely worth what they give you. I was incredibly impressed with how much she was able to fit in that time period. She walked on my back, stretched me out, got a bunch of knots undone, and used hot towels. She also used a massage cream that had maybe some menthol in it? I felt a cool and soothing sensation from it and it really enhanced the massage, especially I was experiencing some aching and soreness. She was very attentive and often checked in on me to make sure the pressure was okay. I typically prefer a lighter pressure and she made sure to be gentle with me and warn me if there were any parts that might hurt a little more. The only thing I would note is that if you're uncomfortable with being naked with your therapist, be aware that your drape will come off at some point during the massage. I kept my underwear on and had pasties, so I was fine. But I could see someone getting uncomfortable if they weren't expecting that. read more

Make an appointment TODAY with NADIA! You will NOT be disappointed. What an amazing find! Not what you would expect from the outside but the ambiance on the inside was just perfect for a Genuine Thai Massage Retreat! Rooms were so spacious, there are full size beds in Thai themed rooms with Ashiatsu bars on the ceiling to assist with the pressure as she started by walking up and down my backside to loosen up my body. Then proceeded to stretch and apply pressure- then a wonderfully fragrant type peppermint oil was applied and she switched to using her hands & arms with continuous pressure and really worked out the knots on my back, neck, and calves. Hot towels were applied and used to remove excess oils. Lots of strategic stretching and manipulation of the joints. I highly recommend this place - it is so reasonable and they are all so inviting and kind there. I WILL be back!!!! read more

I have gone to so many massage therapists and none of them compare to Cheeva! I always leave so appreciative that they shared their craft expertise with me. All the therapists are great, but Nyssa and Mimi are absolutely amazing. My shoulders have broken weaker men, but these ladies wrestle them into submission no problem. I have flexibility issues and have so much more mobility after an appointment. Get the hour and a half Swedish-Thai combination, you won't regret it! read more

I booked the Thai Yoga massage through ClassPass and I'll definitely be back! I love Thai massages but this was my first Thai YOGA massage with assisted stretching and I loved it. She was gentle but effective and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. Highly recommend for anyone who's a little stiff/tense or sore after working out. read more

Simply amazing massage and atmosphere. The masseuse Used very creative methods and used her body to effect very effective stretches. Great location as well! read more

Probably the second best massage I've had in Houston. The ladies were very nice and my masseuse definitely was the strongest I've encountered, when I said I wanted it DEEP, she listened. The scrub was the best part, it was very thorough so much so that it kind of hurt lol but my skin felt super clean and soft afterwards and the smell was wonderful. The scalp massage, a $10 add on was honestly the best part. Afterwards I was so relaxed that I felt like I needed a nap to even drive the 2 miles home. Unfortunately I did have some sore spots on my back and spots that needed to be popped that weren't resolved completely, but it was an excellent massage nonetheless. read more

My fiance and I got a last minute couples massage here. No frills but absolutely incredibly skilled staff. For the price, flexibility of booking and again caliber of massage, I will be recommending this place to everyone I know. You won't get the 5 star spa facilities but you will get the 5 star massage at a very reasonable price. read more

So let me say... I try to visit somewhere at least twice before reviewing it anywhere on the internet, because a good thing once can be a fluke. With that said, the amazingness that is Cheeva Som is most decidedly not a fluke. The first time I was here I had Paul. As someone who has never had a Thai massage I went for the blended 1.5 hr sweedish-thai. Tonight I went all in and went for just the Thai. O (not sure how her name is spelt?) did an amazing job. I had a muscle spasm in my back earlier this week that hurt enough to send me running to my rheumatologist (haha, I'm 23 and old!). I went in in a lot of pain and now I am like jell-o. I have a problem with my spine falling out of alignment and O completely just whipped it back into shape. I know it doesn't matter to some, but the fact that the are open till 10 is another big plus in my book. All in all - I very highly recommend Cheeva Som, it is definitely one of my top three places in Houston to get a massage - and I am someone with back and shoulder problems who gets 2-4 massages a month (and tries anywhere and everywhere in H-town!). read more

Had a great experience! My masseuse was Gralin- he was very knowledgeable and did an incredible job. I feel much better after going and will be going back! read more

I have been going to this massage parlor for over half a decade. I have never had a worse Thai massage from a masseuse. I have also never received a massage from a male before and thought hey why not give it a try. He was also not someone I had ever seen there before. His name is a color, but I won't mention names. I didn't even get a hand or foot massage, which are in fact my favorite parts of a massage. I will not be returning after this experience. And my boyfriends masseuse Mai was the bomb.com. read more

I've had plenty Thai massages before, but I've never witness someone with strong hand , but yet she applies the right amount of pressure most therapist put too much pressure , but they hurt you . Nissa knows exactly what she's doing without hurting you. She made me feel like a brand new man in a new body . All my aches and pains went away. So I recommend Nissa if you want a good string massage . I'm a big guy by the Way with a lot is muscle she still handle that. read more

My husband and I have been coming here for many years and have enjoyed all of the wonderful masseuses. We had been going at least once a month for a 90 min couples massage but with the pandemic once a month turned into once every 2-3 months. The last few times we went it was just okay, nothing spectacular. We chalked it up to different/new staff and the pandemic. Last night we decided since it hadn't been spectacular we'd just go for 60 minutes. They asked if male and female masseuses would be okay and we figured sure, why not. Haven't had a male masseuse here before. When they both entered the room they decided the female would work on me and the male would work on my husband. The lady was decent. The male on the other hand, was not even okay. Hell he wasn't even Thai and when my husband asked if he walks on backs his response was "no, you have to request for that; I'm too heavy to do that." NEVER have we had to request when making an appointment that the masseuse be able to walk on our backs. That's part of a freaking Thai massage!! What a huge disappointing massage for my husband. When we paid the lady asked how it was and my husband shared his comments but there was no response from her. She basically just looked down. Cheeva Som has always had our business for many years but after the last several experiences we don't think we will be back. read more

My go-to massage place as I always have an incredible experience. Expect to get a good stretch in alongside a wonderful thorough massage. They are very clean, and I appreciate the covid protocols they put in place to ensure a healthy environment. Very easy online appointment system. read more

The best place in Houston to get a great Thai massage. The shop gives the exact sense of being in Thailand once you walk in the door, authentic Thai spa and massage. Large parking lot in the back of the building also helps ease your stress of not having to find safe parking spots for a large truck in the city. Overall a top notch place for a real Thai massage. read more

Omg my friend Jason and Mary told me about this place. I finally gave in after several wasted money trips with ppl who have no clue what they are doing. I had Bibi my first time and OMG best experience in my whole life. Never had such great massage in my entire life. I will be visiting frequently. If you haven't tried it out please do you will not be disappointed. read more

I finally got to check out this place after several recommendations. My wife and I went for a couple's massage. I'd never gotten a Thai massage. We got escorted to the room (clean, well-appointed, and quiet) and we were asked if we wanted a regular or strong massage. I decided to go for strong. Strong = getting pulled, twisted and turned in all sorts of crazy positions. And yes, they walk over you. All the stress from work just melted away. It's a bit pricier than reflexology but cheaper than regular massage joints. I highly recommend this place; this is one of the best massages I've had, ever. read more

I am not quite sure why I haven't written a review for this gold mine. I have been here twice now, and each time I leave, I walk out feeling like 5 million dollars. I have never experienced a massage quite like a Thai Massage ever before in my entire 30 years. Back in the day when I was young (i'm not a kid anymore) I used to get a massage once a week. I've had both bad experiences as well as good. Never excellent, tho, until I found Cheeva Som Retreat. These little 85lb (on a good day) women walk in and you think to yourself, "Wtf is she gonna be able to do for me?" Psssssh. Everything, that's what. I wanted to ask her to marry me by the time she was through. They move your body in ways you never knew possible. Stretch and kneed and pull until you are completely worthless and need a cigarette and some rye on the rocks. I took a day off from work next week because I have two doctors appointments and a chiropractic appointment so I came up with the genius idea to treat myself to a massage afterwards. I cannot WAIT to be manipulated by these cute little ladies. Fin. read more

Yelp, please let me give it 10 stars because this is the best massage I've had in my life. From this day forward, I declare all the 5 star reviews that I've given for massages be bumped down to a 4, because I've never had this one to compare it to. Every other reviewer so far has given it a full 5 stars. Need we say more? It's really the BEST. MASSAGE. EVER. I don't say this lightly, and I will probably never say this again unless I find a place that tops it. (But you know, don't go there with too high of an expectation because I found that that always ruins everything!) I went on a lazy Sunday afternoon with the bf for a couples massage, and it was just so incredibly amazing. sensational. marvelous. divine. Add the 50 other words from the thesaurus, and it still couldn't describe the pleasure. Ineffable. At first, I didn't know how to approach the bed because... that's just it, it was a stiff, padded bedding of some sort, and I'm used to the massage table with the end piece where you stick your head, so I was at a loss. I just lay there like it was my bed and got comfy with the pillow. The therapist sat next to you while they massaged and put you in the best stretching positions imaginable. Body Bliss. Also, they are open on Sundays! read more

This place is excellent and legitimate! I am a power lifter which means that I am sore and tight a lot from my crazy workouts and despite all the stretching and foam rolling. Over the years, I have tried numerous massage places but this one is GOLD. Ask for NaNa or Anne. I always get the Swedish/Thai combination massage. Everytime I walk out of here, my aches and pains have gone away and I feel loosey goosey. They are very thorough and for only 70$/ hour, this is a steal. Not to mention that the place is clean, ambiance is nice and cozy and the staff are friendly and professional. I have had plenty of high end expensive spa massages in 5 star hotels but they still do not compare to the quality and thoroughness of the massage at Cheeva Som retreat. I have been a regular here since the past few months and my flexibility and recovery time between workouts has improved tremendously. read more

Unless this place ever closes, this will be my massage spot. Just went this afternoon and feel like I'm on cloud nine. They popped maybe 35 joints for me (in a good way). My back has never been this flat and relaxed together. They used quite a few unorthodox stretches and techniques that I was not used to. A few notes for first-timers: 1) This place focuses more on the massage than typical spa indulgences. The building looks a little sketchy, no wine beforehand, no frills interior.........just really solid massage technique. If you are looking for a large spa retreat with high end amenities, then this may not be your place. 2) Be prepared to be in some odd positions. They twisted my body in ways I have never been in before. You will likely need to communicate at least once that you need less pressure or need to make an adjustment. I prefer this over a "light relaxation" approach. For me, this massage was more like awesome physical therapy. They will happily apply less pressure, but you may need to specifically ask for this. 3) They are super friendly. read more

Well, it seems I've been wasting my time and money (except for my last Massage Envy therapist, Imani) getting Swedish massages instead of Thai. I know it's "funny" to joke about all Asian-run massage parlors offering questionable services, but it's actually not. It saddened me to see no fewer than three signs at Cheeva Som spelling out that they are NOT in that business. Really, people? It's at the corner of S. Shepherd and Welch -- it is clearly not that kind of place. What Cheeva Som IS, in fact, is a wonderful, muscle-kneading place. My therapist Diana really worked on the Boy Scout-tied knots from my right shoulder blade. If you're unfamiliar with Thai massage, please know that the therapists twist you around, are very close to you, etc. It is very different than a Swedish massage, but I honestly think it is more healing if you have pain. I look forward to making myself a regular here. Totally awesome. read more

My husband and I are very impressed with Cheeva Som! We get massages very frequently, sometimes as many as 4 times a month, each, so we definitely know a good massage when it happens. We love trying different places because we love experiencing the different ambiance's. After trying Cheeva Som, we have never used anyone else. We LOVE the calming atmosphere and we love the deep tissue massage. Sam and Ann were the two that gave us both the best massages we have ever gotten in our lives. If you don't really like heavy pressure, do not tell them heavy pressure, because these two are SUPER STRONG!!! They get down into the muscle, where other masseuses cannot. read more

First off, the place is legit. Just what I was looking for. Second, massage was great. Medium was medium. I needed it. Took care near my frozen shoulder so I wasn't back to being out of whack when I left. Towards the end got more relaxing so I almost fell asleep. That was a good way to go for me. Finally, while I had a horrible headache, that unfortunately didn't go away. But I felt better. Not sure who helped me, but it helped! I'll be back. read more
