    GF pastels de nata
    Carson C.

I'm SO glad I found this little cafe while on my trip in Lisbon. I really wanted to try pastels de nata, but unfortunately it's made with non gluten free ingredients. When I saw that I could get them here, I made sure to stop on my very first day in Lisbon. I was not disappointed at all. I also ended up getting pizza too! Definitely a must-stop if you are gluten free and you are visiting Lisbon.

Excelente! Terrific find for a gluten free treat. Great breads, pizza and Nata! Located just off the river - near(ish) to the time-out market

Gluten free people with celiac: go here. You will be...so astounded and grateful! The pasteis de nata were everything I could ask for and gave me an option to not be left out while my fiancé and friends were enjoying their amazing Portuguese desserts. The staff speak English and they are pretty straightforward. Uber will not be able to find this place and drops you off a little past it and around the corner so don't be disheartened just get out and walk around the block. The five stars are for the quality and selection of the food. The ambience is not fancy: it's almost like an NYC deli bakery feel with an option to eat at cafeteria style tables inside or street facing tables outside. But who cares, since it serves delicious, freshly baked gluten free desserts that would otherwise be lost on a traveler experiencing Portugal for the first time! Thank you so much Zarzuela!

There are so many beautiful and delicious looking pastries in Portugal that it kind of makes you want to cry when you realize you can't eat any of them because you're allergic like me. Luckily, after reading many celiac blogs, I found this place! They offer many gluten free options for celiac diners and clearly mark what is gluten free and what's not in their display case. They also have some savory options if you want to have a meal there as well! I got an almond croissant, a chocolate croissant, some pasteis de nata and this pastry with cream on the inside that reminded me of malasadas that you get in Hawaii. Everything was super delicious and it was such a relief to be able to eat sweet carbs again while in Portugal!

I came for the vegan pastel de nata and I was not disappointed. They were so good that I took a box full of them home with me. Vegan and gluten free options are clearly marked. Bring cash!

Limited GF. Appears to be under a different name. Pastal de nata was pretty good. Croissant was more like a cake.

Always enjoying city's on foot, we were talking about hunger and we walked right by the front of this great little restaurant. The staff were wonderful, outgoing and courteous, making us feel right at home as soon as we set foot in the understated but well decorated place. Our service was spot on with our salad arriving very quickly, our ice cold beer moment before, and our tap water in a little pitcher. Our ice request brought two big cubes in a separate glass, put in our glass with ice tongs. The ice was so cold it momentarily stuck to the tongs. Our shared Greek salad arrived as soon as our server went back into the kitchen looking wonderful and laden with very tasty firm feta. We had vinegar and oil on our table so we got to dress it ourselves, always our choice. It was plentiful and excellent. As we requested our margherita pizza came a minute after our salad was cleared, so our small table had plenty of room for our water, beer and food. The washrooms were clean and tidy as was the shared wash up area. All in all and excellent find that if we lived in Lisbon would be a go to place for a pretty darn good pizza!

This is THE iconic place to go, definitely in all of Portugal, and maybe even beyond that…read more Just looking at the nearly 100,000 Google Maps reviews, more than I've seen at any restaurant, explains it. This place has been open since monks were selling pasteis de nata in the early 1800s to make ends meet, and the secret recipe is apparently locked up and only known to a few people. Enough legends surround this place to make it packed with people every hour that it's open. It's so shrouded, in fact, that the egg tarts here are called Pasteis de Belem - not even the Pasteis de Nata used across the rest of Portugal. What really surprised me at first was how large the dining room was inside. When waiting in line, it doesn't feel particularly large, but once you get in you're greeted with a cavernous set of rooms with hundreds of mini tables throughout. Since we were here for lunch, along with the obvious Pasteis de Belem orders, I also got an Iberian Ham sandwich, pasteis de bacalhau, and a spinach quiche. The main part of this is going to be focused on the pasteis de belem, since that's what everyone is here for. I'm happy to say the 200 year old recipe still hits. These are amazing. The first thing you notice is the perfect dark brown spots on the top, indicating a top-tier bake. But when you take your first bite is when you're met with that feeling that - yes, this was in fact worth it. The outside of the pastry is perfect - bursting with flaky layers and a crispiness that has to be heard to be believed. The edges rise slightly over the top just to provide that extra crunch that's irresistible. The inside is just as spectacular. It's creamy, eggy, soft, but avoids being too sweet. One way I can think of describing it is like a soft cheesecake without the sourness. It would be tough not to go to rehab for getting addicted to how good this is. The top stays just a bit harder than the inside which is practically butter in terms of its texture. I could talk about this for another few paragraphs, but the best way to show how I felt is that we ordered another box of six to take home afterwards. The rest of the food was interesting. The Iberian ham sandwich was actually very good, with well-toasted bread, good quality pork, and a ton of perfectly melted cheese. The pasteis de bacalhau and quiche were pretty disappointing, though. For being as famous as is it, this place is remarkably cheap. Each pasteis de belem is only 1.6 euros, and a packet of 6 is less than 10. The rest of the food is crazy cheap as well; with the sandwich, which comes in a massive portion, being under 5 euros. Overall, it doesn't matter how long the wait is, you need to get the pasteis de belem here. It deserves it's iconic status. 9.5/10

While you can…read morefind find these tarts all over Portugal, this is a must try when you visit The exterior is slightly modest, but is also absolutely gorgeous. It's well-lit, and something about it beacons you over. Maybe it's the line stretched out the door. The interior has beautiful blue and white tiles. The staff are all busy preparing tarts, helping customers, etc. I don't know why, but it feels like a shop right out of Harry Potter with the colors and almost antique beauty. The staff are dressed in dapper uniforms. Each person has an air of serious, yet charming, and sophisticated. For a place that pretty much has the same routine all day and services thousands of Hungary and demanding tourists, the staff were friendly enough, and very efficient The packaging was gorgeous. Again, it reminded me of a delicacy or to-go parcel you might get in the wizarding world. The tarts were delicious. I tried several egg/custard tarts in Portugal, and this is one of the best. While at least one of location in Sintra has my #1 pasteis de nata, this one is probably a close second You can order a variety of sizes/amounts, and the carry fairly well. There are also other treats like cakes, hot chocolate, etc Some tips: They have cinnamon and sugar you can put on top of your tart if you want to add to the flavor You B don't have to takeaway, and in fact it might be quicker service if you walk past the initial line and counter and head into the restaurant where you might be able to snag a table and eat your tarts on site Located near a couple incredible Lisbon landmarks you will want plenty of time to stroll around Belém and see the sites. It's a vibe, and a must do in Lisbon Cheers!!

After…read morehearing about their gluten-free offerings, I decided to give this place a chance for one of my evening meals during my trip to the city in the Winter of 2023. The interior is fairly comfortable with many tables suited to larger parties, yet the menu and prices seem to be more in line with fine dining, while the menu was limited, I was told that pretty much everything could be adapted to be made gluten-free. I ordered the Tandoori Chicken Breast which was listed on the menu as coming with potato gratin and some mushrooms, it also came with a small number of vegetables. While I was waiting for my food, they ended up bringing some gluten-free bread and oil to my table, the gluten-free bread was hot and individually wrapped so I was really excited to try it, but the bread wasn't good at all. One of the rolls was seeded (I hate seeded bread), and the other one just didn't taste good. After the bread, I was brought another dish, which appeared to be a slice of cheese with tomato and some sort of pesto dressing, while I appreciated them bringing this to my table as a mini appetizer, my server didn't explain what it was, so I had no idea on what I was eating. I was disappointed with the service overall, as they didn't explain the cheese dish they brought to the table, and were not too attentive during my meal, my glass of water fell empty, and they also didn't check up on how my meal was until the very end. Despite being quite spacious, they did put a large family including children right next to our table, despite having gaps in-between other diners and the space to do so which I would have preferred they avoided. The portion size was a little small, it would be ideal for a light lunch but if you're looking for dinner, it would be better suited for one to have multiple courses. My main course was actually pretty good, the chicken was cooked well, and the tandoori sauce was tasty, the potato gratin also was very good, I thought it was a cool idea to have little pieces of bacon inside it, I just would have liked a lot more of it. The carrots were hard and almost inedible so having a little more chicken, and a little more potato would have made it much more filling. A service charge did appear to be added to my bill, which was only a couple of euros, it didn't appear that they charged for either the bread or cheese plate. 3* - Many positives for sure, the food was good, I just would have liked more of it. Improvements to service are also an urgent must.
