This was our first visit to Zarda. The menu above the counter wasn't easy to read, but the order taker was helpful. I ordered beef burnt ends plate with beans and potato salad. My wife ordered a beef brisket sandwich with mac n cheese. The burnt ends were very tender but too salty. I tried four different BBQ sauces. None were what I'd call great. The highlite was the beans. They were good enough to justify a return trip. On the table was a teaser for a turkey sandwich. We'll try it on a later visit. Overall, it was "ok." We'll return. read more

This place used to be good. My turkey sandwich was nuked to death and resembled rubber. When asked about condiments at the drive up window they completely ignored what I asked for. JUST TERRIBLE. Small portions, over-priced. Not that great of quality. Our party comprised of about 7 people. None of us were impressed in the least. One of the ladies thought there was a strange tinge flavor and promptly lost her appetite. I feel bad for the people that come here, I really do. The whole limited reserve name thing is very misplaced and more so of a gimmick to try and bring importance to the menu items they use it on. As if you can use that name and we are going to forget the burnt-ends are chewy as F$@K! and hard, just terrible. Small ribs on a 2 rib dinner that left our kids still hungry. Nothing was hot or fresh. There is no love or care or even two f@$ks given. They get you in, take your money and feed you some of the worst BBQ Kansas City has to offer. I love BBQ and it's hard for me to hate any of it but man ... I don't know where to even start. Like one reviewer said, it's the "McDonald's of BBQ" and I think that basically sums it up. I lived nearby for years and I never went wrong with the burnt ends or sliced sausage sandwiches. Burnt ends here are flavorful and never fatty. Fries are thick and crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Great lunch spot. read more

Here's a new one for me. Just start going here few years ago. While not my favorite barbecue restaurant, it is certainly one of the better ones in Kansas City. They have a broader menu then most barbecue places having cheesy corn is a must here. They have several unique barbecue sauces. I was excited to try Zarda BBQ. It flies under the radar and now I can see why. The food wasn't bad, just average. The atmosphere is more of a sit down family restaurant than a typical BBQ joint. This was my LAST trip to Zarda's after many years of eating there. I ordered 1/2 lb. of beef (which is on the carryout menu) in the drive-thru and was told I'd have to go inside to get it. What? They'll slap a little meat on a soggy bun but won't sell the meat plain.? I wasn't dressed to go in after working in the yard, so I ordered a sandwich & threw the bun away. When they first offered sweet potato fries you had to go inside to get those too. The rude kid at the window informed me that "Zarda is one of a few places where you can get BBQ at the drive-thru." Yeah I know - I drove past Bates just because I didn't want to go inside. From now on, I'll go to the closer, less expensive and friendlier Bates. Bye, bye Zarda. read more

Since the damn good Zarda in Overland Park has closed, I've been up a creek to find good bar-be-que. Unfortunately, the north (the original? i don't know) up on 87th street is the worst type of bar-be-que joint there is. The help don't want to be there, and one gets the feeling you're not welcome. I got the runs from the north location's food. It goes in good, but comes out with a vengeance. Maybe they've fixed their problems, but I doubt it. Places like these rarely can get back on their feet. Two stars for the memory of the Overland Park location, otherwise it would be one. read more

You know it's sad because this is a place where the food is actually pretty good, but they negate that with the complete lack of decor in the resteraunt, the incredibly rude behavior of the staff to the customers and the 1980's country music that they don't update. When I go get barbecue I hope to see a bunch of cook off trophies and a friendly staff that's happy for your business. This is a great place to get a consistently good BBQ sandwich with big French fries. Always lean trimmed meats and a generous helping on each sandwich. Big cut French fries and onion rings are always a favorite and the corn nuggets are always enjoyed. Still a small town, family oriented atmosphere that we enjoy several times a month. read more

We reserved the back room for our rehearsal dinner. 3/18/16 We had a buffet with ribs, ham, turkey, brisket, potato salad, bbq beans, coleslaw, corn nuggets, and pickles! WOW!! SO good! We had one young lady who served us! She was so awesome!! Most friendly and polite!! She was a doll!! The buffet was great!! Everything was delicious!! Such a nice set up!! Perfect size! So easy to work with! They let us add on the corn nuggets at the last minute and it was well worth it!!! They were the hit of the party!! With full disclosure, I*ve been eating at Zarda since it opened. I eat at all KC que establishments and travel this country comparing all BbQ to the best BBQ right here in KC. Having said that, all KC BBQ restaurants have their own great thing. Without a doubt, most reviewers of Zarda have been missing that one great thing. I have always loved Zarda Barbeque in Lenexa, Ks. the food is awesome and the staff has always been friendly enough for us to want to come back. On April 3, 2018 we had the best service we have ever had from the young lady at the front counter( if memory served me her name was Grace??) anyway she was super friendly and informative about the BBQ contest that was going on that Zarda was involved in. My husband loves burnt ends and she was very helpful and answered all his questions about them. She made us feel really welcome and made us feel as though she wanted us to be there!!! that says alot. I asked to speak to a manager so that I could convey how much we appreciated her interest in us being there(hard to find someone that waits on you and actually wants to be there doing her job!!!) we will return,hopefully when she is there and working again, to enjoy more of our favorite BBQ.
