The food was great and so was the service. The hummus was not the best that I've had, but it was good. I liked the eggplant dip too. We tried an entree that had several different dishes to try and enjoyed them all. They also had live Greek music. I believe they have belly dancers on Saturday. It was a good time! read more

I stumbled across this place through yelp and I was glad I did. I had a gyro platter and all of it had great flavors and was very fresh. The server recommend the mohito drink and it had lots of fresh mint in it, very refreshing. Finally I got some baklava to taste. Everything was fantastic here. The mixed platter was so good to sample a little bit of everything. It is so big it will feed two people. The basil hummus was also really good. We've lived nearby for years and finally got around to trying Zara's and it is fantastic! We have a favorite Mediterranean place in Houston but hate the drive. Now that we've been to Zara's we can enjoy delicious hummus and lamb gyro close to home. The lamb is thinly sliced and cooked perfectly, the Mediterranean hummus was our favorite from the sampler, and the last beef sombosa was nearly fought over. Very pleasant atmosphere. The food was very tasty and the service was good. Their iced tea is very good. The dude said it was a secret family recipe, and I'm sure it is. The special ingredient being Grandma's love. I'm sure that's true. But I think it also has a bit of apple juice or spiced apple cider. Well, that's my guess. Anyway, I recommend the iced tea. This is my very first review on yelp. I use this app a lot but I've never felt so passionate about a dining experience since using yelp, until I came across this truly amazing place. If I could give this restaurant 20 stars, I would. If I had to pay a little more for my meal here, I would. Great service, great energy. And the food. OMG. I'ts almost impossible to describe in words how fresh and tasty and juicy and flavorful every bite is. The manager, Mohammad, knew it was our first time here and took the time to talk to us, and explain what makes their food so different and flavorful. Service is absolutely great. We had the mixed grill plate for 2, and in it, we had the gyro, Kafta, and chicken. My husband absolutely loved the rice, and I thought the salad was the best out of any middle eastern restaurant! We live 30 mins from here, and will have no reservations in driving back again and again to eat here. To top it off, the manager offered for us to try this cold tea they have there. I'm not a cold tea person so I figured it would just be 'ok'. He says people call it 'heaven' or 'OMG' tea. I thought he may have been exaggerating. He wasn't wrong. It was fantastic. Apologize if the review is so long, but this place deserves it. Wish more restaurants cared so much about the quality and flavor of their food like they do here. Best hummus and gyro I've EVER had, and this is coming from someone with Greek relatives who has had the above-mentioned plenty of times.

We wanted to check out something different and Zaras had excellent reviews so we decided to try it out. My husband had the beef shrawma and it was so tough and grizzly that it was almost inedible. I had a gyro sandwich and the flavor was very good however I prefer the one down the street at Olive Oil. I usually bring home half the sandwich from Olive Oil and Zara's was substantially smaller. I also had the lentil soup which was watery. It is a very cute little restaurant with nice decor - no bar. Considering how small it is It seems that the staff still cannot remember who gets what. At the table next to us they hot the check wrong. I gave it 2 stars because my husband said his meal was the toughest beef he had ever eaten. Both Olive Oil and Greek Isles on Louetta are superior. read more

My wife and I had lunch at Zara's today and this is now our favorite Mediterranean restaurant. We had the hummus trio, the Hallume fried cheese, the falafel sandwich, chicken kabob sandwich and the baklava. All the dishes were full of flavor and were made from fresh ingredients. I am not a big fan of iced tea but Zara's tea was really nice and something I would recommend. The staff were all very friendly and it turns out that the owner Mohammad and I met each other in a training class in Baton Rouge about six years ago so that was a very pleasant surprise. Somewhat hidden in a small shopping center next to Gatti's Pizza, this place is a true gem! We had the trio hummus platter to start. The pita bread was thick and warm, and each hummus had its own unique flavor with a generous topping of feta cheese. The gyro with sweet potato fries was the best I've had in Houston. The meat was incredibly flavorful and tender with a slight crisp on the shaved edges. Instead of being packed with tomato and raw onion, it included pesto, cooked onion, and just enough tzatziki sauce in proportion to the bread. Although I didn't taste it, the meat moussaka received rave reviews as well. I left this place completely stuffed because although I was already full, everything tasted too good to stop eating! The only thing left to say about this place is that the service was outstanding. Our waiter was welcoming and attentive without being overbearing. Great food! We just moved to the area and we were trying to find donner one night and we stimbled across Zara's. We shared a coupled of appetizers and the shawarma lover platter which was just splendid! We heard the non alcoholic mojito was great but we didn't get around to trying it. This place never disappoints. This time had zara's lamb chops which was very juicy, tender and full of flavors along with their refreshing herbal house tea. Friends had meat moussaka and roasted lamb shank which they loved it. Coconut baklava is my new favorite. Service was friendly and very attentive. I will be back many times. read more

Located in a tiny strip center, this place does not look impressive at all from the outside, but once you step through the door you will feel like you have crossed into a restaurant out of 1001 Arabian Nights.
