Within the Allentown market is this gem, offering a small take out menu of Syrian delights. Conveniently across the Marriott Renaissance Hotel and PPL Center, Zahra is a great place to pick up a quick healthy and flavorful meal. There is cafe seating inside, as well as outside. Zahra (cauliflower in Syrian) is associated with Aladdin in Allentown, where a broader representation of Syrian culture (food, music, and dance) can be experienced. Zahra is owned by one of the five daughters of the couple who had initially opened Aladdin on the ground floor of their home in 1980. Here are two interviews with owner Sam Younes about this history: https://tinyurl.com/zahrainterview https:/tinyurl.com/downtowninterview I chose familiar items -- items regularly experienced as part of Aladdin's couple special : Babaganouj with pita, Arnabit, Tabouli, and Baklava with Turkish coffee. These did not disappoint, and were just as good as the that found in the flagship restaurant that had been established by Sam's parents. I was glad to see others had already discovered this spot, the shop accounted for the flow of customers in the market. In the interview, Sam describes a vision of Middle Eastern cuisine being a part of American "fast food" experience. Since I first encountered Middle Eastern food in the restaurant on the ground floor of her family's home on Second Street, it can now be found on the shelves of Costco and smaller grocery stores in the northeast. With a shift to more health conscious eating, it seems this vision is possible. An additional quick pick up location is in the works in Bethlehem. One surprise that is not typical of fast food is the availability of a small collection of chilled bottled beers. Whether choosing to sit at Downtown Market cafe tables (inside or outside) or bring home, Zahra has a thoughtfully curated menu for a flavorful meal.

Excellent chicken bowl with fries. Place was very busy and wait was a little long during lunch on a Saturday. But worth the wait.

There's ample parking in front of the building. The restrooms are handicap, accessible The atmosphere is decorated with a beautiful Mediterranean theme, florals , wood themed throughout , greenery, and plants. Great for date night as well. Greeted via a wonderful gentleman Fred , who is also the owner of Mediterranean Grill. He seated us immediately. He took our order we decided to go with a chicken Shawarma wrap And lamb Shawar. Both had a beautiful presentation. We ordered a side dish of grape leaves and a hummus dip. The dip was amazing, smooth and creamy and flavorful, and the grape leaves had just the right touch of flavor, rolled to perfection. The chicken Shawarma was lightly seasoned with a garlic cream sauce. The lamb Shawarma was equally just as good and flavorful. The dessert was a Osmayli - creamy and delicious, not too heavy . The prices are reasonable. When I visit Bethlehem Pennsylvania again I would definitely stop by here and if you are here, I say stop by give it a try you will not be disappointed and you will thank me later Say hello to Fred

5 Stars - Lazeez Fresh Mediterranean Grill - Worth Every Bite!…read moreJust had one of the best Mediterranean meals I've had in a long time at Lazeez Fresh, and honestly, it's the kind of spot that makes you want to come back the next day. The owner himself came out after I finished eating and we had a nice little chat--he was telling me how his two sons are now working with him, which was really cool to hear. You can tell the family runs this place with heart, and it shows in the food. * Chicken Shawarma: Loaded--seriously, no skimping here. Piles of juicy, perfectly seasoned chicken, not the sad half-wraps you get elsewhere. And the fact it's served in puffy pita bread instead of those thin tortillas most places use? Game-changer. Tasted fresh and authentic. * Baba Ghanoush: Super fresh, creamy, and came with warm pita chips and bread on the side. Perfect balance, not too garlicky or oily. * Tabbouleh: Exactly how my grandma used to make it--bright, herby, lots of parsley and fresh tomato, lemony without being sour. Spot on. * Namorah (2 pieces): Chef's kiss. Moist, not dry like some versions, sweet but not overpowering, just the right texture. Finished them way too fast. Everything felt homemade and made with care. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and the vibe is welcoming. This is the kind of place you tell your friends about. Would love to come back but was just passing through for work--highly recommend Thanks to the owner Adnan and the sons for the great food and the chat--keep doing what you're doing! They do catering TOO!!!!

Everything was decent. We even got complimentary dessert - some coconut squares.

We were seated after the people who walked in after us. Some tables received water and no complimentary bread/olives while others received no water but complimentary bread/olives. Our bread was also sitting out for some time as the baker was not present to make it fresh at the time. It appeared very stale. The restaurant was half empty but it took over an hour (in addition to the understood 25 minute maklouba prep) for our main entree to come out. When it did, there was no apology and we had to ask if the accompanying labneh was on its way for the maklouba. The maklouba itself had rice grains not fully cooked. The server was avoiding eye contact as we tried to ask for more napkins, water and an update on our order. It then took another thirty minutes for us to get the check and pay, which was only possible because we got up. We watched as people waited so long to not only be seated but to also check out. The menu has a lot to offer of the Palestinian culture but the lack of service, lack of freshness and lack of efficiency won't have us coming back.

There were 6 of us and we split the Efsane Family Special for 4 people and added lamb chops thinking we wouldn't have enough food lol the special also came with dessert but my sister-in-law also ordered a rice pudding. The 6 of us could've easily had the family special for 4 without ordering anything else - there was so much food and we had leftovers to take home!! For context, we all eat a LOT so to say we had leftovers is saying a lot! Quantity aside, the food itself was delicious. The bread is served fresh and steaming hot, the dips are delicious and flavorful, meat is seasoned and cooked perfectly (the chicken shish and lamb adana are my favorites), and the bitter black tea and sweet baklava are a perfect way to end the meal. I left there stuffed and so happy! The staff was also very friendly and attentive. I'll definitely be back!
