I've been coming to Zagu at Ala Moana every time I visit Oahu for the past four years, and it's always one of my favorite stops. I honestly crave their ube shake every trip--just the ube shake alone makes me happy! It's consistently delicious, creamy, and packed with that classic ube flavor that keeps me coming back. I've recommended Zagu to several friends, and some of them were excited to learn it's the same brand they used to enjoy back in the Philippines. It brought back a lot of great memories for them. Dole Swirl was delicious, BUT the swirl was completely hollow in the center. I wish that I had taken a photo of that, because it wasn't a solid mound it was swirled around the inside of the cup which created a hollow center (e.g. not much volume at all) for $9. What is Zagu... It's a chill place! This little kiosk in the Makai Market Food Court in Ala Moana Center is basically a cool spot as their menu is filled with all things refreshing from boba drinks, shaved ice and Dave's Ice Cream. After shopping around the mall on this hot humid day our inner body temp seem to have screamed loud enough for my curiosity to stop here as much as I've passed it without a thought numerous times in the past. Scanning the menu "Dole Whip" immediately got my attention and with lots of options "Pineapple Paradise" looked promising and asked the staff what it was and it's vanilla soft serve with pineapple chunks but asked if I could substitute it for the dole whip which he said okay...woohoo! Pineapple Paradise indeed as this cool treat hit the spot though my latest detox and eating a bit healthier got my taste buds twisted and it was bit too sweet for my personal liking and had the hardest time to finish. Zagu is conveniently located in the food court at Ala Moana shopping center. I can't comment on the Boba drinks or the shave ice as we only come here for the Dole whip. My daughter and I just love Dole whip, but going to the Dole Plantation out in Wahiawa is just way too far. DESSERT: Dole Whip - $7.25 (small cup) Pineapple is not my favorite fruit or flavor, yet I had to try it as the name always struck my curiosity. The tartness was my biggest dislike. I envisioned it being more creamy and "vanilla-y" with a hint of pineapple, but the flavor profile was too intense for my palate. SERVICE: Very mainstream and nothing to write home about. Zagu's is located in the Ala Moana Center's food court. They have a nice range of boba drinks to choose from as well as different boba choices. A regular size boba was almost $9 and my son ordered the cookies and cream with tapioca boba. He really enjoyed it. The server was nondescript and seemed more automaton than service-oriented, but he got us what we ordered and it didn't take too long to get it. On my recent trip to Honolulu; I got to check out Zagu. Zagu is inside the Makai Market Food Court in Ala Moana and can easily be spotted and it is located fairly close to the entrance of the food court. I found it to be the perfect location as people tired from all the shopping and walking are sure to welcome a tasty cool treat. They've got two sizes for shave ice; a small for $6.49 and a large for $7.25. One also has the options of adding condensed milk for 69cents or vanilla ice cream for $1.50. For each shave ice; one has the option to choose 3 flavors or get their classic rainbow. Flavor options include Strawberry, Banana, Vanilla, Mango, Pineapple, Pina Colada, Watermelon, Lychee, Raspberry, Grape, Lime, Passion Orange, Cotton Candy and Coconut. I chose to get the small classic Rainbow. It was definitely one of the prettiest shave ice. It however not only looked good but tasted good as well. It indeed was refreshing and perfect for a hot Hawaii day. I got it with condensed milk and I would highly recommend adding this. The condensed milk adds a creamy consistency and a nice sweet touch. Overall I enjoyed my shave ice here and was happy to have had the chance to check Zagu out. read more

Terrible place to get Shave ice. I was so busy eating Garlic Shrimp off of food trucks that I totally forgot to get real real Hawaiian Shave (Not Shaved) ice while roaming around the island. The day I was leaving, I happened to be at the mall and thought... "hey, I did not eat any shave ice while I was here" So I went to Zagu's in the mall hoping to get some. The cashier was super rude and she totally gave me the worst shave ice I've ever had!! Super big pieces of ice which made it really watery on the bite. Friendly service and patient staff while waiting to order, there's just so much to choose from lol. Overall nice experience. We were eating lunch at the Makai Market food court at Ala Moana shopping center on a busy afternoon Saturday, 10/14/23. After a yummy lunch, had a hankering for ice cream. Didn't want Haagen Daaz so roamed the food court a bit to find anyone else that sold ice cream. I don't come here too often & when I do, I always need to check out what food places are new, closed, or still there. This place offers such a wide variety of different foods, so hard to make a decision sometimes. I came across Zagu Hawaii, which I found out later has been at the food court for a long time. This small kiosk is located by the mauka entrance to the food court not far from Jamba Juice. What sold me was that they sold Dave's Ice Cream, love it - Hawaii made ice cream, yum! This place mainly sells a variety of boba drinks as well as shave ice & Dole whip. I will need to try a Dole whip sundae next time since I only ever had it plain in a cup but for today, it was all about the ice cream. They didn't carry a huge selection of Dave's ice cream flavors but the ones they did have included by favorites. I got a 2-scoop in a cup of ube and Kona coffee. The young gal that greeted me was nice & had a pleasant smile. I told her it was to go but she informed me they did not have lids for the ice cream cups but offered to put it in a plastic drink cup with a lid. I told her that would be just fine because I didn't think I was going to eat it all & I'll have leftovers for later. The ice cream is a little pricey, 2 scoops for $8.99 but for something like this that I do not get often, it was worth it. The ice cream was so yummy. Portion wise, it's good-sized, about 1/2 cup+ per flavor. I was going to eat just one scoop but when you're sitting there talking story....what can I say? I ended up eating the whole thing. Glad there is another option here at the food court that has quick service & good, friendly customer service. I'm not a boba drinker but I would definitely return for the Dole whip and more Dave's ice cream. read more

9-2-21 We came here mid morning for a little refreshment. I looked up on Yelp for my saved collection by Ala Moana. Yes! Let's try Zagu. More so since the pandemic we rarely come here. The directions on Yelp led us to the parking area and from there it was an adventure to find this place. Found inside the food court by the area facing the elevator going up to Neiman Marcus it's tiny and pretty with colored lights and signage. I walked almost around the little kiosk and wondered if it was open. An elderly gentleman came up to me and said, "he went for supplies, I'm waiting too." I asked him what's good and he told me Pineapple, my friend and I always get that. He ordered two pineapple when the employee returned. Looks good I told him. His eyes smiled above his mask as he said, it's refreshing. I told hubs to find a table away from people so he waited there. I was next so I said one small pineapple(Dole Whip) and one mango drink with mochi. Hubs finished his treat quickly and after a few delicious sips I told him let's go. Our pit stop after Disney Store. My granddaughter wanted a Strawberry Banana Bubble drink. She couldn't remember the name of the place, but know it's in Ala Moana. I know there's one on the food court and went there. Zagu's.... it's not too busy or a wait. This one guy runs this place, never see anyone else. But he's friendly and fast making three orders at once... Overall, my granddaughter slurped that drink down like there's no tomorrow and a smack her lips of satisfaction. I'm surprised she didn't asked for seconds. This place is within the food court on Diamond Head side, more like a kiosk, but enough for what he does. This boba spot is located in the street level of Ala Moana Center in the Food Court. This is a small spot with 2 employees. We thoroughly enjoyed the service and the care. The boba and teas were great. What we loved about it were how every boba is blended, which is something we're not used to seeing offered without being requested. Came here looking to get a boba drink. They don't start serving boba in their drinks until 11am and we came around 10am. I can drink a smoothie without boba so it was okay. I got the oreo smoothie, one of my faves at other boba shops. Their oreo smoothie is good but it was vanilla-y tasting. There wasn't much of a cookie crumb taste. I always order the strawberry banana smoothie with lychee pearl. I've had the oreo shake too and they're both delicious. My oldest ordered the honeydew, but nothing special about it. The price has gone up a bit since, but I still don't think it's that bad. The parking of Ala Moana Center is huge so that's not an issue. I wanted some dessert, I wasn't feeling like any ice cream but Nordstrom has good gelato. So after walking from Ward to Ala Moana Center. I wanted something to cool myself down, so I got a medium dole whip. It's non-dairy, as good as Dole Plantation. I used to get my dole whip from the Walgreens across the street but it closed down and was self serve. So I've been looking to places to get dole whip without going all the way to the North Shore. My inner Disney fan in myself still needs to get my dole whip fill every so often. Even though I still prefer Jamba Juice, Boba, and Gelato/Ice cream most of the time. It was a little costly 6 dollars for a medium but they do have to pay Ala Moana Center rent. I used to be able to get a large, self serve at Walgreens for the same price. I got seating in the food court, they're still doing contact tracing information. So I had to write it down fast before it all melted. It was a lighter much needed cooling dessert after all the ramen and popcorn that I ate earlier in the day. They take credit cards and cash.
