I truly had a great first visit to Z burger a week ago. I am still thinking about how fresh the burger and onion rings were(along with the Z sauce). I also had a very good blueberry cheesecake shake. Ok, so yeah, their knockoff five guys burger is sometimes Ok.. but way over-priced. I have tried a lot of the menu, the chicken sandwich is terribly bland. The cheesesteak is just don't, the onion rings are over the top, the milkshakes are thin and all taste the same. The decor? They still have the previous BGR The Burger Joint wall wrapping and tables. We visited this recently opened business by chance. We were staying in the area and decided to try something new, so we stopped in to find out what they had to offer. When we arrived, it was a little before noon, so the restaurant was still relatively empty. Prior to ordering, we perused the menu above the counter, which was pretty extensive for a place that sells burgers, fries and shakes. They had regular burgers, chicken sandwiches along with a veggie burger and a plant-based meatless burger option. They also offered french fries and onion rings in small, regular and large sizes. All are sold separately. After deciding what to order, the ordering process was pretty efficient. Since this was our first visit, we did have some questions about the fix-ins. Since I like my veggie burgers with a lot of different flavors, I ordered everything from sautéed.mushrooms to sautéed onions to banana peppers and everything in between. As a veggie burger connoisseur, the actual burger lacked flavor. The presentation was good before I picked it up; however, it completely fell apart as I was eating it. Even with the add-ons, the veggie burger never reached the wow factor that I expected. I rarely, if ever eat french fries, so these were a nice treat. The addition of malt vinegar and z-sauce made for the perfect accompaniment to the fries. In terms of flavor and presentation, they were reminiscent of Boardwalk Fries. The fries were served hot and fresh with an evenly golden appearance. The only thing is that the regular fries for two people was way too much for two. At the point of placing the order, it would have been nice to know that this was a huge bag of fries that could easily have fed four to five people. For comparison, there was a family of three, which included two small children and they ordered the large size, which was served in a bag about the size of a standard size brown paper lunch bag. Just know that if you only want enough fries for one meal and two people, the small size fries might be enough for two. However, it may vary from person to person. We didn't order milkshakes, but they had a large variety from which to choose. I think the signage indicated 75 flavor options. There were some good flavors listed. Overall, it was a good place to try, but the veggie burger was just okay. Maybe their hamburgers are a better option. They don't skimp on the food or the fix-ins. Some add-ons are free, while others are an extra fee. The restaurant was clean and the one staff member that we encountered during the ordering process was friendly. read more

Terrible letdown, disappointing and I can go on, but I'll stop here. I visited this iconic restaurant on Saturday expecting an experience like the Wisconsin Avenue location. But this is where all of the problem started. The staff have no idea what they're doing and the food spoke volumes I ordered a cheesesteak and it was dry. It had no flavor, and it was expensive! There's a language issue at this location. This guy didn't even know how to hollow out a hoagie roll so that the meat can easily sit inside of the bun. Guy places one slice of cheese on the sub and then proceeded to cut it up to allow it to melt. Why???? And about five or six slivers of onions. I'm not sure how involved the owner is in the success of this restaurant but if he doesn't get involved soon, this place is gonna close. There were no customers inside the restaurant and I guarantee you if they keep making food as bad as this they won't be around much longer at this location. Stopped in to see when this burger joint which has taken over the spot previously held by BGR is going to be open. To my surprise they were up and running! The owner welcomed me in exclaiming I was just in time for a free meal. They seemed to doing to test run with their staff, and pretty quickly I had a double cheeseburger and fries in front of me. The owner checking with me over and over to see what I thought and what they might do differently (cook the fries longer? Etc) The food was excellent and it will be nice to have a decent burger joint in the area again. read more

Standard burger fare at a fairly inflated price. About $15.00 for a double bacon cheeseburger (plain). Burger was good, not great, and served hot off the grill. Service was very good. Z-sauce (served on the side in a cup) is basically Big-Mac sauce, which is OK if you are into that, but overpowers the burger. The attraction here is the very late service hours (closes at 2AM). If you're a local, have overserved yourself, and need to scratch the itch of a greasy burger before you pass out, this is one of a very few options. The thing that sticks out immediately to me from my experience here is how much this place copies Five Guys. The burger is wrapped in an aluminum wrapper that gets compressed as much as possible....just like Five Guys. They offer regular fries and Z-fries. The Z-fries are seasoned exactly like Five Guys' cajun fries. The fries are served in a white paper cup...just like Five Guys. Even if you order a regular-sized french fry order, you get what appears to be the entire fry basket of fries...just like Five Guys. It's all put into a small brown paper bag that then immediately gets splotchy stains of grease....just like Five Guys. This place is just a carbon copy of Five Guys. read more

First of all, the parking lot is ridiculous. You have to go through a gate to get in and a gate to get out. Obviously but the parking spaces I drive an SUV. They're extremely tight and small. I went to get 2 hot dogs. The staff was very dysfunctional, and I agree with some of the other reviews about the stupid tipping that comes up on the machine. As I was watching them cook the hot dogs, one of the employees. It was approximately 4 o'clock on Saturday. I guess his shift was over because he took his backpack and his hat off and I said Goodbye to everybody and went out the front door as I'm watching my hot dog still on the grill. Then the gentleman who work, the" cash, register", decided it was time for a break and went and sat down and was having lunch. Finally, I guess the manager called him back over to help because it was a line of people. Very disappointed and let me add that. I have eaten many, many times at the. McLean store and enjoyed it. We'll not be going back to Reston shop even though I live right around the corner very disappointed and by the way, I walked out and left my food there because I just I had had enough of it. I should have walked out as soon as I walked in the door to Z Burger. I could see the tables were sticky. The floor wasn't clean. The grill on which the burgers were cooked hadn't been scraped, cleaned as should be done every so often. The kitchen staff was in chaos. Our order was a burger, a hot dog, small fries & a shake. While waiting for the order, I went to the restroom. The ladies' restroom is being used as a supply closet so everyone uses the same filthy bathroom. Yuck! We chose to eat outside. Opening our packaged meals, I found a burger bun that was crushed nearly flat & so old & leathery I can't imagine where they'd purchased such a thing! The hot dog was no better. We threw our meals away after several bites. Oh well, we tried a new place but am hoping you read this so you don't waste $30.04 on a meal there. read more

Ridiculous wait for subpar food that was made incorrectly and had to be remade. Burger had no taste and fries weren't cooked through. Not to mention everything was overpriced for fast food chain food. There are many other burger options within close proximity that have much better food and service. read more

This place really lacks "bang for the buck". I paid $40 for two double bacon cheeseburgers and an order of fries. The burgers and fries were merely ok, nothing special about them. Not as good as 5 Guys definitely not as good as the BGR which used to be in the exact same location. Last but not least they do not provide a free cup of water. We will not return. read more

Stopped by for a late lunch today with my wife. We both ordered single cheeseburgers and a order of 1/2 fries and 1/2 onion rings. The burgers were nothing special. You definitely can get better ones at 5 Guys, Burger 21 and even Wendys! The fries and onion rings were overcooked. On the way out I ordered a maple walnut milkshake to go (after finally getting someone's attention). After a few minutes they said they didn't have any walnuts. So I guess they only have 74 flavors now. I got a refund for the milkshake and we left. I also noticed (as did someone else in another review) that the kitchen area was filthy with food and trash all over the floor. There was plenty of people working at the time so SOMEONE could have swept the floor. The place itself looks run down for just opening and supplies are stacked in the hallway by the restrooms. We gave it a shot and probably won't go back. The Kook Dog Cafe next door is a much better option. read more
