The gyoza was good but the sauce could be better. I tried the premium hand roll and the salmon roll sushi and ok I was disgusted because it tasted like fishy LOL... couldn't get the thought of fish sperm out of my head.. The sashimis were alright Disappointed because they didn't have bluefin belly fish at the time I came in.. UTC roll was not good I don't recommend But the hotel del sushi was so fireee! Hooohh, this is unexpected. I like this joint a lot. I kinda want to give this 5 stars, but I feel like that would cause me to lose any credibility I have left. Because Yelp reviewers have so much credibility, right? The unique location makes the building a stretched triangle and gives it a certain vibe. I ordered 3 things and was extremely surprised by all 3. First, I had a spicy salmon sophia bowl. I had no clue what a "sophia" bowl is, and after a brief search, it appears that Google has no clue what a "sophia" bowl is either. I'm very curious as to how this place landed on the name "sophia" bowl. I assume this used to be or came from the "crispy rice (6 pieces)" on a previous version of their menu. If so, I guess this is better. It's just a salmon donburi, but I think it's rather different than what Americans would expect from a "poke" bowl in San Diego nowadays. There's not a ton of other ingredients, and while there's sauces that enhance the taste, it really just focuses on the interaction between the salmon, rice, and crispy rice. Ironically, this style of salmon rice bowl is more Japanese than your typical San Diego poke bowl, which is more of a Hawaii staple. I loved it and thought the texture and umami came together really well. Next, I had a few takoyaki. The plating for this is not very convincing. There's no bonito flakes and pretty light on the green onion also. There's plenty of mayo I suppose. The takoyaki themselves though, are fantastic. These are big, crisp, and hot, although still not as hot as I like. The texture is really on point. For as big as they are, maybe they could've put slightly more tako in it. Oh, also no pickled ginger, but I realize I forgot to check if there were any on the bar. Finally, I had a miso ramen, which was also interesting. Was it the best ramen in town? Definitely not. Was it at least amazing? Also no. However, it was.....really properly Japanese in a way that's hard to explain. Like, this is the ramen a Japanese chef would make if they had to make a cheap bowl of ramen with almost no resources. LOL Like, it has a lot of noodle. An average American would simply complain that it's too much noodle, but I would argue this is the correct ratio in traditional East Asian cuisine. We have a concept called 主食 shushoku or zhu shi in Mandarin. For ramen, the "staple food" is the noodles themselves, which should be the focus. In Japan, it is normal for ramen joints to have a noodle refill option, and that will be one of the most common requests from customers. The noodles themselves are some pretty cheap stuff though. On top of that, it has a bit of seaweed, green onion, and bean sprouts, which are all ubiquitous ramen toppings. The toppings it's missing are stuff like corn, mushrooms, kamaboko, etc., which while present in ramen, aren't always present and/or are more common in American-Japanese ramen. The pork belly is small, but the texture and appearance are both very standard. Also important, the broth is surprisingly soothing. Some ramen made by people that don't know what they're doing make a broth with a thin consistency that give them away. Well, a lot of times, there's just not much emulsified, which makes it more flavored water than an actual broth. While this broth isn't super intense or complicated, it has a well-measured saltiness and consistency that reminds me of average ramen shops in Japan. For that, I love this broth; I could drink it every day. For the record, I am far more likely to come back here again than Saiko Sushi at least, even if just to ask y'all a bunch of food weeb questions. read more

Finally tried yummy sushi today and it met expectations. We got the $89 premium menu and I don't think it's worth it! The food took awhile to come out but the server did say the premium items do take some time. You are able to order everything on the premium order once so we got everything on there. Mostly nigiri and sashimi which was what I was craving. Some of those items were a little fishy to me but that's to be expected at AYCE. I definitely got full off of this but feel like the $45 is a better deal. If I came back I wouldn't do the premium because didn't meet the quality as I'd like. Took my parents here while they visited, and everything was average at best. Servers were very attentive. Started with edamame, which was more lukewarm than hot. Both my parents got the Spicy Tuna Sophia Bowl, and they were about half the size that our server told us they were going to be. This meant the tiny amount you're given is not worth $14. However, they give you a good amount of avocado if you add it. My guy and I got a full roll of the 3 Amigos (pretty, but not very flavorful. Also not sure how fresh it was), half roll of Yellowtail Special (good roll! would get again for sure), Fresh Water Eel nigiri (these were definitely not fresh. Tried out Yummy Coronado after seeing a lot of posts about it on social media and unfortunately, it was a bit underwhelming. For AYCE sushi, you are very limited! Many of the items on their menu are limit of 1 order, such as their sashimi. I came with my boyfriend and we were told by our server that each person had a limit of 10 items each time we ordered. This included the sides and soups as well. We hadn't experienced this before at other AYCE sushi places so we felt quite limited. You reach the 10 item cap pretty quickly if you also want miso soup, edamame, seaweed salad, etc as usual sides. Service was also a little slow, which is consistent in other reviews. We were there on a Sunday for lunch and there were 6-7 other parties seated. One server was quite literally RUNNING back and forth taking orders and dropping off food, however, the lack of servers was definitely evident. We waited some time in between rounds and had to flag down a server to place another order. The view is amazing though! Later, I accidentally dropped my glass of water, and no one came to help clean it up; I had to ask. I also had to ask them to clean the floor afterward. Have been here a few times, have always walked in early around 5/5:30 and have never had to wait, however it does look like it can get pretty crowded closer to normal dinner time 6/6:30. The entrance can be a tad hard to find, but it's up some stairs. For all you can eat for $60, I have not been disappointed! My favorite are the hand rolls- especially the salmon one because there is actually a good amount of fish in those. The sashimi is definitely on the smaller side and you can only order 1 serving which is a small downside, but the nigiri and rolls are a decent size with reasonable amount of fish in it so I don't mind. They also have very creative rolls that are very good, but I do wish they made more rolls / handrolls that weren't spicy or with a lot of mayo. The quality of the fish is pretty good for an ayce, with the salmon being the best in my opinion. Overall, service is fine and pretty fast, can be a bit hard to flag someone down, but not unusual for an ayce place. The front entrance is difficult to find. With the construction going on, the entrance is up some stairs and through a door with a sign that asks you to go around. The door clearly shows the restaurant inside. What we did, we just went inside and was instructed to go across the restaurant to the front desk to be seated. A little strange of an experience. Once seated, unfortunately, we were too late to the all you can eat sushi portion. Do not come an hour before closing if you were hoping to try the AYCE. The sushi was really good I'll give them that. We had rolls as depicted in the imagines I have attached. They smelled fresh and were very fresh. Although the front entrance and the timing was off, I would come back here. While the sushi is rich and flavorful, I must admit it was not super filling. I could still eat some more, but I paid enough money. I would be more excited to see what the AYCE has to offer. The service was standard, and it is quite aesthetic inside. Beautiful restaurant with great options! I'm not a huge fan of sushi, but I'm trying to love it. This place doesn't only have sushi included on their all you can eat, but also has many other entrees and appetizers so I thought it would be perfect in case I didn't feel like only eating sushi. We came during opening time and they seated us right away. There's an indoor area and outdoor patio with a view of the ocean. The sashimi was incredibly fresh and very high quality. As someone who isn't the biggest fan of raw fish- it was great and I enjoyed every bite. Their crispy rice tuna and shrimp tempura were great and we kept those orders coming! Here is the deal, sit on the patio, in the sunshine, order the standard AYCE, a few bottles of sake and I dare you to not have a good time. The view of the beach, the wind on your face, and some pretty good sushi that is made to order. They comply with the standard AYCE sushi laws with things like "you must eat all that you order" but rules like that are totally fair and there for a reason. The sushi is really tasty and flavorful and the service was quick and friendly. My girlfriend and I got seated right away and had a view of the outside. We went at night but I want to go during the day or sunset to see the view by the beach. AYCE sushi ran us about $50 each which is a solid price if you order a lot. The nigiri with the rice had a lot of rice over fish ratio, so I'd recommend getting sashimi. However, they cap you at 1 sashimi per person per round. Which honestly isn't that bad. We really liked the crispy rice roll which was super fresh and crunchy. But every roll we tried (and we tried almost all the classic rolls) were amazing. Bathrooms are within the building and easily accessible. The place is on the second floor, so stairs are required. I did not see an elevator, but I'm sure there is one. Note that this is right next to the dominoes and street parking is the usual route for parking situation. Overall, a must go spot and I'll definitely be going back soon! read more

This place had been on my mind since Instagram showed it to me and I saw their oshi sushi's and menu. We came for a late lunch Sunday and the view is great. The inside isn't fancy but it's nice enough. The little lollipops at each table were a cute idea and gave my kid something to look forward to. We did the Yummy AYCE and I do not lie, I am so full that as I write this I am skipping my dinner because I have no appetite left. There were a few things that were not ideal: the rolls that contain real crab on the regular menu such as the Hotel Del roll are not made with real crab for AYCE. The gyoza were more Korean mandu style than Japanese, and the agedashi tofu was made with firm tofu. Everything else we had was good! When the chicken karaage came I thought it looked unappetizing and not crispy, but it was actually crispy and very tasty! I was shocked how much my kid ate and enjoyed, which is great. Oh, also kids are $24 for ages 4-12 so it was nice that she was happy. The red dragon, Coronado beach, hotel del, long weekend, and other rolls were all nice, and the nigiri's we had all had generous portions of fish that were fresh and tender. The truffle fries were not all super crispy but they were still tasty and had just the right amount of truffle which is hard to come by, I feel. The service was pretty good! Sure there was a lack of enthusiasm from some of the servers but they were rude or anything, just probably would rather be doing something else on a beautiful weekend like that and I get it. They were largely young-looking girls working there and our actual server was the most enthusiastic friendly one and she took good care of us. Overall I felt this place was competitive for AYCE with quality being better than I remember from Little Sakana, for example. I would definitely go back! Taste wise the rolls were supper delicious!! Very fresh. Ambiance is nice, lots of tables. For someone who doesn't live or know the area it was hard to find this place from the outside. They were doing construction so it was hard to find the entrance. We ended up coming through the back because we ran into a worker from there. There is street parking outside and a parking garage underneath. The only thing that sucked is we came pretty late and they said they are no longer doing all you can eat. That's the only reason we really came here to be honest, since it was written everywhere and even on this yelp title page. If I could live here... I would! I've been wanting to try this place for such a long time after seeing their videos on Instagram pop up! They have such unique choices of sushi, and I cannot tell you how delicious each one was! The Crispy Rice Tuna was INCREDIBLE, I ordered it three times during my time there! Our waiter was friendly and all the staff always kept in check with any dishes that needed to be taken and our waters. The only thing I disliked about the place was the convenience of the area, it's on top of a real estate firm next to a dominos and spa place, had a difficult time navigating but still found it. The sushi itself, especially the rice & fish (nigiri) was heavily full of rice, so I don't recommend getting it. We didn't wait to get seated on a Monday night, but the staff did forget about our Yellowtail Special and Salmon Sashimi, so definitely reminding them is the way to go, they brought it out within minutes. Love this all you can eat sushi place in the heart of coronado! The views from the restaurant are so nice. Outside seating has a nice view of the water as well. I would recommend getting here early. We got there around 5pm and didn't have a wait, but at 5:30 there was a line. They have the $45 AYCE and the $89 boujee AYCE with nice cuts of fish/expensive proteins. We came here after seeing a cute video of the beautiful view on IG. I'm sad to say that was the only good part of dining here. First our table and menus were covered in soy sauce. Sticky and dirty. It took so long for someone to come check on us so that we could ask for a wipe down and new menus. We ordered off the all you can eat menu and we were so disappointed. The appetizers feel frozen and deep fried. So much batter and oil. The truffle fries and the cucumber salad were so good. Everything else was terrible. Chicken teriyaki - dry. Sauce bland. Edamame- so unbelievably soggy. I couldn't eat more than one piece Tonkotsu ramen - pork is dry. Broth is bland. The egg is bland. Nothing special The salmon oshi has a laughable fish to rice ratio. The rice is dry. I enjoyed the mixed sashimi and that's about it. Service was extremely slow. I waited over 20 min for a simple glass of wine. We were only checked in one once. Poor service overall. We wanted to like this place but overall a disappointment. I would recommend Little Sakana if you want delicious all you can eat sushi. read more

The bluefin sashimi was insanely good and both "special" sashimi options were exceptional. The nigiri options for toro, yellowtail, salmon, and halibut were awesome. They also have quite an assortment of special rolls to compliment killer hand rolls. They have a traditional menu and an AYCE option for about forty bucks. Easily one of the best in San Diego County. This is such an interesting review to be writing and honestly I tell people about this place a lot in person as well. I'll start off by saying the negatives as I see them.... When you first drive up to this place. It is in a strip mall in Coronado over a Subway sandwich shop. My friend that suggested that we go here heard an earful from me when I was like I'm not eating at a place over a Subway sandwich shop! I really thought it was going to be awful. Then there's the service... I don't think I've ever gotten good service here. People tend to be snarky or really not interested in doing their job. I've actually heard employees next to my table talking about how much they hated management or that the kitchen staff was lazy, really crazy stuff to be saying right next to a customer. So why is it getting five stars??? The sushi quality is ridiculously good. The cuts are incredible and super fresh, and you even get really high quality fatty tuna for the hand roll. As part of the all you can eat. It's insanely reasonable and some of the best sushi that you can get in San Diego period. Having good quality food that is also at a reasonable price point is more important than anything else. Came here on a weekday for an early dinner with a party of 5. We waited about 30min for our table. If you are seated by the window you get a very nice view of the surrounding homes and beach. They didn't require all of our party to do AYCE, which was nice. We mostly ordered the nigiri and they are very generous with their servings. The fish was fresh and delicious. Service was a bit slow with the food but they did warn us about that when we were seated. Despite that, they never forgot any of our order. Overall we had a very good experience dining here.
