Classic Salmon

I'm not sure if they were out of ingredients or if the worker misheard me. I received a #3 instead of a #1 signature bowl, but I was so hungry that I didn't care enough to get what I wanted. The ingredients didn't seem fresh and they were out of avocado. I also added my own soy sauce and spicy mayo since they were either out, didn't have it, or didn't offer it. Also the forks are a little flimsy!

It is the classic set-up, where you pick a base (usually rice) and the protein (usually raw fish), and enhance the texture and flavor by directing the counter person to add various toppings and sauces. The counter person was very friendly, giving us plenty of time to make our choice. She was also generous with the toppings, and I'm pretty sure she would have customized it anyway we want. The prep area was very clean, tidy, and organized, with each bin fully stocked with the prescribed ingredients. There is only one size, with one large scoop of fish and rice being the base, and it's plenty. Some toppings are extra: if you get the basic with tuna and no extra-costing add-ons, it is $12. I ended up getting a predefined bowl called the Da Kine (Marinated tuna) for $13, and it was good: nice mix of flavors and made it simple. Some differences from previous poke places we've been: -- they offer a sushi rice option, taking the same hot white rice, and squirting a sushi (vinegar and sugar) mixture on top of it. In my case, it didn't really add much. -- they have a premarinated tuna option, along with the unmarinated. Some places are now letting you choose your sauce spice mix first, and then marinating your protein choice for you right there. It's a bit more work, but I think it does add something worth it. The marinated tuna that I had was fine, but definitely lacked the absolute 'wow' when eating just freshly cubed ahi tuna. It looks like the Poke Bros are THE place for Poke all around Chicagoland, and they have found a good place to source their ahi and salmon (hopefully) daily, as good as can be expected this far from the ocean.

I ordered once in-store, and was misinformed about the Masuga - we were told it did NOT contain gluten. As we have Celiac Disease (myself and my children) - this is a serious issue. My son ate the Masuga with no issue on our first visit (luckily). My most recent order was placed online as I was confident I remembered which ingredients were safe (gluten free) for my son as well as myself (Celiac plus allergic to Shrimp and Sesame). I clearly wrote special instructions about our food allergies, asked for clean gloves and requested they check the order to verify I did not add an ingredient in err (their website does not specify the allergens in the ingredients as it should) and remove items if I made a mistake. I ordered Masuga in my bowl - and when I arrived for pick-up, I asked to verify all ingredients met my GF, shellfish and sesame requirements, I was told they put the Masuga in the bowls since I ordered it, but this time informed me it HAS gluten. They offered to remove the Masuga from the bowls I ordered. I explained to the server and manager how Celiac Disease kills your body's ability to absorb nutrients if you ingest any gluten - and that you cannot "remove" gluten in any way once it has been added to the bowl. They were kind enough to remake my bowls from scratch. Their food is delicious, and I think the price matches the size of the bowl. HOWEVER - 2 hours after I ate the food, I landed in the emergency room overnight with a severe case of anaphylaxis. I believe they used one spoon to dish out all the food which created the cross-contact in my bowl. If you have food allergies do not risk eating here.

I've inadvertently been to several Poke Bros and have enjoyed all my meals from this chain. They…read moreprovide quick, easy, and tasty meal at a reasonable price. The bowl cost between $9-$14, depending on the protein selection. You can make you own bowl, but I usually just opt for one of the signature bowls. The #4 Duke is a good choice if you want something with a little jalapeno kick as it comes with tuna, salmon and shrimp. Located next to Noodles and Co. .|\---/| | @_@ | ..\_^_/..2024

I came in tonight and the girl was sitting beneath the counter, I didn't even see her until I walked in and she stood up from her seat behind the rice pot. She may have been taking a nap? She seemed bothered that I walked in. I ordered two build your own bowls with white sushi rice. She filled the first to the brim, had to squeeze the lid onto the top. Very skimpy on the sauce, she was using it like an eye dropper to make sure not to fully squeeze the bottle for some reason. Then the second bowl had almost all the same ingredients of the first bowl, but she only filled halfway. She started to put the lid on and I stopped her, I wasn't happy she only gave me half the amount of food as the first bowl, I told her to just top it off with lettuce. She slowly placed leaf by leaf into the bowl until it filled up, did not add anymore sauce or dressing so the salad on top was dry. Not sure if she was high or stoned or just moving in slow motion, but she definitely made the whole experience unpleasant. No apology, no explanation, not even any eye contact. No tip either. I'll tip when the service is good

It was completely by happenstance that we turned into this place. Our family was doing a little…read moreSaturday night "dinner hop," and we originally planned to stop at a bibimbap spot. But as we drove by, the sign caught our eye and my husband and synched up in harmony, "Poké Bros -- Hey, we haven't been here in a really long time!" So kudos to their signage being clearly visible from Golf Rd, because as foodies... that absolutely matters. When we walked in, it was already past 7:30 PM and the restaurant was empty. And not to pat ourselves on the back, but there's something in Asian culture about having "good food juju" -- meaning if you love food and love eating, you will draw in crowds after you walk in. My husband and I are both born under the Pig sign (take that however you want ), and I swear that within 10 minutes of us ordering, three different groups walked in and the place filled up to about 70% capacity. This is not the first time this has happened to us over the years, so yes... we're a little proud. Our kids are foodies too, so if you ever see our family in your restaurant, likely more foot traffic is coming your way. So the ambiance here is fun and casual, with a Hawaiian surfer vibe that totally fits the fresh fish concept. It also makes me miss Hawaii! Now onto the food. We really like Poké Bros because it feels healthy and fresh -- quality fish, vegetables, flavorful rice -- basically deconstructed sushi in a bowl. You also get good value for what you're paying. Most bowls start around $13 (there has been a slight price increase of a couple dollars since our last visit years ago, which is expected). For an average person, one of these bowls which is usually packed with ingredients to the rim will totally fill you up. We ordered The Duke ($14.50) which comes with tuna, salmon, and shrimp. Because we were dining with kids, we left out the jalapeños and swapped the gochujang sauce for the sriracha aioli, which isn't spicy at all and is kid-friendly. We had sushi rice which was well flavored with vinegar (if you don't like that, ask for white rice) and also added extra imitation crab for $1.25. At the end, you can customize with additional toppings -- we added seaweed nori, wonton crisps, and rice flakes for extra crunch. Everything came out to be about $18 for a bowl so you can get feel for cost. Service was quick since bowls are made immediately, and we didn't have to wait at all. The staff were friendly, and nothing felt off or uncomfortable. It's also nice that they'll give you a lid with your bowl so if you don't finish, you can easily take it home. Once we sat down, the kids went wild -- and they even ate some edamame, which I count as a win. Everything was delicious and while the toppings were cool, the sushi rice was warm and it was a great combination. Since this was our second stop of the night (yes, dinner hopping with kids is a thing in our house), we didn't order more, but we'll definitely be back. Years ago, my husband and I used to come here for date nights when our kids were too young for fresh sushi. Now they love it, and it's nice to be able to enjoy this together as a family. We actually use this place as a bit of a "pregame" before going to rotary sushi spots -- our kids can absolutely eat us broke (not exaggerating), and this helps take the edge off their appetite. I know that's probably a unique situation, but if you're going with kids who devour sushi like water, this is a great option. For most families, this would easily be the main meal. For us, it's a sushi-deconstructed bowl of happiness before the final round. Tip: Ask for a punch card. Every bowl earns a punch, and after 10 punches you qualify for a VIP card that gives you a forever 10% discount on every order. We're definitely holding onto ours. Not sure why it took us so long to come back, but now that Poké Bros is back on our radar, we'll be returning for sure.
