Hot Sour Soup

This is the go-to Chinese place for my wife's family, for as long as I can remember (my daughter grew up with this food). They follow the standard suburban Chinese fast-food sterotypes: carry-out only, should use a coupon to get 'something' free, large portions overstuffing the takeout containers, can be very greasy but can feed a large group of people inexpensively, and tries to cover all the styles (Cantonese, Mandarin, Szechuan) but in reality it is one style (Americanized Chinese). This time, we got carryout for the main staples (noodles and rice and soup), since we had the main courses already home-made. Mom's coupon was for free large chicken fried rice (with $25 purchase). Also ordered shrimp fried rice ($11.25), large egg drop soup ($4.75), large sweet and sour soup ($5.25), and order of house pan fried noodles ($11.25). All the portions were large, and more than enough to feed 6 adults. The taste was fine. One thing to note is that for their pan fried noodles, they use a thin type of chow mein...we haven't been able to find another restaurant that uses this style...whenever we've ordered pan fried noodles, it is thick and crunchy (see La Choy brand) and expect the sauce to soften it. Here, it's good (and absolutely fabulous if the sauce is on point...which can be hit/miss).

The Golden Bowl has become our go-to for cheap Chinese food near the house that serves up hearty quantities and doesn't lack in the quality department. It's a carryout place set at the back of large, but not quite thriving strip mall. It's two minutes from my house and I am constantly wishing for a boost of life back into this spot. The Golden Bowl is a start. Their staff members are quite nice and helpful. They encourage coupons and have even told me where to find them from time to time. The portions are large enough to share or make multiple meals off of if you will reheat Chinese food. I tend to find their dishes best the first time, so I'm happy to share. Their prices are really reasonable compared to the other Chinese/Japanese/Sushi spot in town. I love the other spot, but my wallet can feel the difference. My only real complaint is that we've ordered meals that come with a can of pop. They always forget the pop and unless I remind my son or husband to specifically ask for it, we usually miss out.

On top of the typical Chinese favorites, the menu also has specialty dishes designed by the chef. After talking to the chef turns out he has an extensive background on southeast Asian Cuisine specialty in Malaysian food. I took his recommendations see photos attached

I order take out from Golden Bowl from time to time. Past dishes I've tried I had no complaints of. This time I ordered walnut shrimp and Mongolian chicken. The walnut shrimp was too watery and the Mongolian chicken was 90% onions and 10% chicken. I wouldn't order these dishes from here again but I will come back for the ones I am used too.

Roach in my dinner. Absolutely DISGUSTED!! This is only one ROACH in my meal, imagine how many more ROACHES ARE IN GOLDEN BOWLS KITCHEN!!!

My husband and I are moving to Bartlett and have been looking at the many offerings the area has to…read moreoffer since starting our build. Le P'tit was the first to pop up on my feed and immediately caught my attention due to its unique menu, historic building, and secluded outdoor oasis for the fair weather seasons. When asked where I wanted to have dinner on my birthday, the answer was easy, L'ptit! We were greeted by the Chef Chopra outside, who welcomed us and asked us to choose the seat that suited us best in or outdoors. We chose a seat outside as it seemed most guests were enjoying the nice weather in the garden. Chef Chopra introduced himself and explained the complimentary montadito, and presented the current specials. We loved that he took time to ask what brought us in, and when we said that we were building a new home in Bartlett only minutes away, he shared that although he has been all over the world he always misses good old Bartlett, IL. This is the kind of connection and service you won't find at franchise restaurants! We enjoyed cocktails, myself a dirty tini with bleu cheese stuffed olives, and my husband the traditional old fashioned and the P'tit old fashioned - both of which he enjoyed. We ordered the hummus for an appetizer - my husband never orders humus. Not a drop was left. It was so flavorful, and since I am intolerant to gluten we loved that it was served with cucumber "chips". We will definitely order this again! Our entrees were both specials - mine the steak and shrimp tower and my husband's the Birria. We could t decide whose was better. The shrimp and steak were so flavorful and beautifully cooked, and the beef and consommé of my husband's was out of this world. My takeaways from Le P'tit: We will be there - regularly, before we move into our home, and after! Have a cocktail, they are fabulous. Talk to Chef Chopra any chance you get. He has seen the world and loves to see his guests enjoying his menu and the atmosphere of his establishment. This is what supporting local is about! Enjoy your time at Le P'tit. Savor. Take a moment to slow down, disconnect from the outside and connect with the ones around you and enjoy the wonderfully and thoughtfully prepared dishes on the menu. We can't wait to be back!

I looked up highly rated Vietnamese restaurants and found Tasty House 1 in Carol Stream. This place is everything we anticipated it to be. The location is nice and has parking in front, inside is super spacious and had a relaxing and breathable ambiance. We ordered a family appetizer platter that came with all the delicious Vietnamese appetizers like: spring rolls, bbq marinated meat, fried eggrolls, grilled jumbo shrimp, meat wrapped in betel leaf, lettuce, noodles, cucumbers, cabbage, tomatoes, daikon, jalapeños, two dipping sauces: peanut butter hoisin and Vietnamese fish sauce. Another appetizer we got separately was the fried calamari which had a great crunchy texture, the absolute best! For our entrees I decided to build my own pho and chose tripe, rib eye steak and quail eggs. My husband got the spicy beef noodle soup (Bun Bo Hue). This is honestly the best Vietnamese we've ever had in our lives!!!! I'm so glad I found this place. Awesome service, food and atmosphere. Zero complaints everything was very fresh and perfect. Our hearts left super happy.

There is a separate vegan menu with half a dozen things on it, and other than the drinks and desserts, pretty much nothing on the regular menu is vegetarian. (The papaya salad, which is on the vegan menu, is a ringer: it contains fish sauce.) You've got your choice of various fruit lemonades, bubble teas, popping bubble teas, jellies, etc. Desserts include flan, Vietnamese yogurt, coconut jelly - none of which you'll be eating onsite as you'll be too full after your entree. Portions are on the large side - even the papaya salad is a meal. I got the peach lemonade, vegetable spring rolls and the tofu, vegetable and noodles, which turned out to be a soup, basically Vietnamese ramen. The spring rolls are tasty and come with peanut sauce; the vegetable broth was savory with lots of baby bok choy, plenty of noodles and cubes of fried tofu - it was even better with some of the homemade hot sauce, which I highly recommend. The lemonade comes in a bubble tea disposable cup and contains tiny pieces of fruit - very fruity, not very citrusy. Service was friendly and very personable, which helps if you're serving 16 people. All of whom were happy.

I got -shrimp po boys (x-tomato) with fries -one of each sauce -peach cobbler On my 15 minute drive home everything was still fresh and warm and crispy. -Fries were SO perfectly seasoned I almost didn't even need a sauce, which for me is crazy as I need a sauce with everything (but I always try it first without). -The po boy...my god. It was so crispy, fresh, the shrimps were perfectly battered (hate when they hide the shrimp between 10 layers of batter), the lettuce was fresh and surprisingly not wilted by the time I got to my destination. I'm not one for cheese on my po boys, and almost got it without, but im actually really glad I kept the cheese on. -Sauces were all great, the Roumalade is where it's at though. I could've really just had 10 of those and been happy! The tarter was a bit less zesty/tart than what I'm used to, but I ended up putting the hot sauce in it and it was delicious -peach cobbler i have yet to try, but it looks so glossy and creamy, will be eating tonight! The service was really just the cherry on top. Elizabeth, the owner, is the one who greeted me, and she was just a doll. She's a sauce queen, like me, so she made sure I try every single sauce! And gave me the peach cobbler on the house as it's my first time there. She's just the sweetest! You can tell her, her husband, and her son just have so much fun together. I'm just so warmed by my experience there, as she went so above and beyond, AND my food was impeccable. I'm quite the critique with my food, and only rate honest to what I feel, and this place deserves 5/5 stars hands down.

I stopped in for lunch to pickup a large order or shrimp and fries. I was greeted by Elizabeth initially. She insisted that I upgrade to the plate instead which included cole slaw and potato salad for a small extra fee so I proceeded to lock it in. Shortly after, her husband Kenny greeted me and we had a friendly talk for a while. They hooked me up with an additional side and drink (they did not have to do that) which I thought was a very kind gesture. My food came out prompt, hot and fresh. I ate a few shrimp and fries while there before hitting the road. Everything was crispy, seasoned well and appetizing. I ate the cole slaw and potato salad later at work and enjoyed each. Overall, this is a business I'd certainly return to in the near future. Cost is very competitive and on par with most places so this is a reason to further recommend them. To the owners, thank you for an excellent first impression. Hope to see you again soon!

I had never had ceviche before. It was very citrusy, but enjoyable. Plenty enough to take most home and eat again. Husband ordered the red snapper which was also tasty, but came as a whole fish with a face, tail, and bones, so not for the squeamish. I also had a guava margarita. I thought it was all good, but when we ordered another round of drinks and I specifically asked for guava, I got what I think was a peach margarita with spices. I even asked if it was guava when it arrived, since it looked so different. Server said yes. It was good, but not what I ordered. Given I have a food allergy though (not to peaches, thankfully), still somewhat concerning. Ambiance was a bit strange. The layout had most shorter tables near the front and taller ones along the wall toward the back. There was room at the back wall for a band, which I heard would be playing much later that night. We did not stay for the band. I am too old for live music and it's just too loud for me. Overall a good meal, but there might still be some kinks to work out with this newly opened restaurant.
