We've come here for years, and specifically because orange chicken was our daughter's favorite and they had the best, even for take out Bacău's they separated the sauce and had nice steamed broccoli. We ordered on Friday night because she was coming to visit, I won't say it was bad, but now it's the typical gluey version and no veg I can get anywhere. The beef chow fun was...eh....again not what we are used to from the past. I got the hot and sour soup, that was still very good, but I ordered a pack of the crispy noodles as usual, except these were very stale, and not pleasant. I get having these ready to go, and maybe with all the weather lately, maybe it's cutting costs in the current environment I don't know , but very underwhelmed from what has been our go to spot for decades. There is a reason we always came back, and now you just joined the ranks of the many places around. I'd gladly pay a reasonable price to have the old level of expectation back. I've already got a general replacement in place, the style is just different, but we will head down the road a few minutes more often unfortunately. Placed a take out order for pick up. My order was ready on time packaged well. The food was good but a little on the bland side.

The egg rolls are the best tasting near by suburbs. Their food is so good it has a great taste. I ordered sesame chicken and a sesame beef. I also ordered bbq fried rice, egg rolls, kung pow chicken and yang chow wonton soup. To start of the Yang chow wonton soup is the best tasting soup with some white pepper and soy sauce. It has bbq beef, chicken, shrimp,wonton, hard boil egg cut in half, pea pods, watercress, carrot and mushrooms it so delicious it a must try. They have the best egg rolls here. Ask for their house hot mustard and sweet and sour it amazing. The sesame beef and sesame chicken is also very good and we love this dish here. It is served with broccoli and it a decent portion. The kung pow chicken is spicy but to a level you can handle. It has green and red peppers with peanuts, chicken and I believe onions and red dry pepper which is so flavorful and delicious. This is a hidden gem in Elgin. You can dine in, they have a couple booths and tables. The service is great and Michelle will take great care of you. read more

This place was not good and I am so disappointed. I placed an order it was $76 which is very expensive for what I got. They told me it would be ready in 25 mins and I was stuck in this waiting area with 10 others waiting another 40 mins. The place smelled really bad I should've left but I already paid wanted to give them a chance. The Mongolian beef was raw inside I had to cook it more because it was red. Chan's Garden is my 2nd or 3rd go to place here for Chinese food. the quality is decent, and the price is about right. They do have like Singapore rice noodles which is always a plus for me since not all Chinese restaurants carry that. Other than that, it is pretty standard American Chinese menu. read more

Went here for dinner New Year's Eve. We ate in, I don't think they have a lot of eat in customers. Seemed surprised we were not picking up carry out. Ordered appetizers to eat there and entrees to go home. The egg rolls, pot stickers and soup were all great. We ate some of the entrees at home later that evening. Both were very good. Lots of meat and good flavor. Regretfully they didn't send any rice, not sure if I needed to ask for it or if they just forgot it. All and all a good meal. read more

We were very disappointed to go in to eat and be told they only do carry out now. We ordered to take out and asked if he had a plate and fork. So he put in 1 plate and 1 plastic fork for the two of us who were there ordering. Both our meals had a lot of sauce, so I don't know what he thought we were going to do with that. I asked if he would give us the sauce for the egg rolls. He gave us 2 little packages of sweet and sour and no hot mustard. In addition, the hours shown on the door have nothing to do with when they are there. We are so sorry to lose the place we liked so much. read more

The sesame chicken was a small portion for what we paid. The dining area was clean and well maintained, despite dated decor. The host, who seated us and also served us, was very kind. This was my first time trying Chan's and it was pretty good, typical Chinese food. There's a normal selection of varieties, including a few specials I haven't seen in many other restaurants. I ordered egg rolls, BBQ pork fried rice, sesame chicken, and beef and broccoli. The egg rolls were fried to perfection. A good crunch. Filled with cabbage and shrimp, they had a smoky flavor to them. I like my egg rolls a little on the sweet side made with peanut sauce, so I didn't really enjoy mine, but my spouse said he liked them. The BBQ pork fried rice was delicious. It had tons of pork in it and a noticable amount of egg and bean sprouts. I loved it. Super spot on. Seasame chicken was alright. The chicken is tender with a bit of crunch to it even while saucy. It tasted a little sweet for me, but the seasame flavor was great. The beef and broccoli was good. I felt like it needed a little bit more salt, but everything else was good. The broccoli wasn't overcooked and the beef didn't feel fake. I also loved the water chestnuts. Most places I've been to overload the beef and broccoli with onions and I didn't get that here, so I liked this. Overall, pretty nice place, the atmosphere was clean when I walked into the restaurant to pick up my order, the cashier was very friendly. I'm doing to try out a few more Chinese restaurants around the area, but Chan's seems like it'll be one of my go-to places. read more

Went in today for some quick food, ordered house fried rice, crab ragoons, and sweet and sour chicken. The food lacked in flavor all of it, the chicken was weird tasting and the crab ragoons were just fried balls of weird paste not even warm in the center. A quite little restaurant tucked off the road...but some very delicious lo mein and egg rolls are spot on. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu..... A frustrating experience to say the least . I have a gluten allergy and called ahead to see if they had GF options. I was told on the phone that "yes, absolutely ". When i asked what, I was told they could make anything I wanted GF, just speak to them when I came. We were on limited time as it was our lunch hour. 10-15 wasted minutes with the same lady I'd spoken to on the phone brought to light that I could order anything on the menu, just wouldn't get what I ordered. They have no GF soy sauce here. She finally suggested a sesame beef with broccoli . I don't usually get beef but went with it, we were running out of time. She said it had a nice sesame sauce on it. I wanted to read the description and she said it wasn't on the lunch menu but they could do it. She finally took the order down and then came back and advised there was gluten in it but I can get the dry beef on plain rice. Horrid and NOT.as she had described. When I was disappointed she brought some sweet and sour sauce that I could add. Then the bill came--I was charged double what I expected --she said "no, that wasn't the lunch menu, that was from the dinner menu ". I was made to understand she was making a lunch portion--and besides, it wasn't even the sesame beef that I ended up getting. Just so disgusted since I'd taken the time to call ahead. IF you have no food allergies it appears this Would be a fine place--and IF you don't need to rely on good communication--they are totally lacking there. I have found my new #1 for chinese food in Elgin. I tried several other restaurants and this place is the best. My previous #1 was Silver Lake which is now a close #2. The general tsos chicken was delicious and I normally don't care for that dish. Their sweet and sour chicken is the best I've ever had, it was so fresh and not overdone like so many other places and you could tell it was all white meat chicken and it didn't have the fatty portions in it. The beef fried rice was very good and not at all greasy. I'm updating this since today I went and dined in for lunch with my son. I ordered the chicken lo mein for me and the sesame chicken for him. He enjoyed his sesame chicken. The lo mein was very tasty, much better than what I have tried from other places. The restaurant was about half full when I was there and we still got served relatively quickly. The lady was very friendly, she was just zipping all over the place. They may want to hire someone to help out. Overall, I am very satisfied with this restaurant. read more

I've ordered (delivery) from here a few times over the past few months, and my husband and I love this place. The food is excellent quality, and the sauces are very flavorful. This area doesn't have too many good Chinese restaurants, so once we found this, we haven't ordered from anywhere else. Another great thing - the food is NOT greasy. That's a huge plus for me because I can eat and not feel sick afterwards. Only once my sister complained that her lo mein was a little too salty. But we've ordered that particular dish other times with no issue. We've never dined in the restaurant, so cannot comment on that. I am a fan of what I call good Chinese Food, the kinds of restaurants you go to in Chinatown where there are only Asian people eating and working. Chan's is nothing of the sort. I am able to speak a little Cantonese to order the food that me and my family enjoy. Upon entering the restaurant, I asked the host if he speaks Cantonese and his response was, "I am not Chinese." Well, that describes this restaurant to a detail. It is not Chinese and the food was nothing close to being good. Personally I would not recommend this restaurant to an enemy. I don't understand the rating either. The cooking is solid Cantonese fare for the American diner. Wife and I sat down to a house lo mein with shrimp, pork, chicken, and the hong sue tofu meal the other night and it was all well executed. Good "wok hei", which is the smoky flavor of the food stir-fried in a wok at high temperature, a mark of skill. I sense their true skill lies under the food they crank out for the fried rice and sweet and sour crowd: push for more adventuresome food. read more
