We liked the food previously, but this time the chicken was chewy and the rice and other dishes were dry. We won't be coming back here.

We've been ordering from here for a couple years now. The last two orders have been awful but we didn't complain before. However things are more expensive now. The sweet and sour chicken was extremely hard that I cut gums on it. Couldn't even put a fork through it. Looking at the picture it seems they double fried it to warm it up. We called for a refund but they said we have to do it through Chow Now. We ended up not eating it. read more

Price is pretty reasonable and if you spend so much money you do get for example free fried rice. This is just a take out and no seats at all. They are pretty quick with the food and have a good amount of choices. Pretty much standard American Chinese food. read more

When living in Elgin, Fortune House was my go-to Chinese restaurant. I'd order through the app and my always tasty food would typically be ready in a very short while I usually ordered sesame chicken or orange chicken with pork fried rice... the rice was as much of a star of the show as the chicken, full of vegetables along with the pork and rice. Not much in terms of ambiance, you walk in, get drinks from their cooler before getting your food promptly handed to you at the time it was ready (there is a little seating at the Schaumburg location if memory serves me right), and walk out knowing you're going to have a tasty meal at home at a very reasonable price. Something has changed in the Elgin location. I normally order shrimp fried rice and it's used to be good. Last two times it's dry and the rice sticks together. Used to not have to use any soy sauce but it's not flavorful anymore. I mentioned it this time when I ordered via phone but it still wasn't cooked like it used to be about 6 months ago. This place was not very good as the meat seemed rough and not fresh and most of the dishes I tried were mostly vegetable lacking of real meat. This place was a total disappointment there is no seating inside and it looks pretty unkept and pretty dirty a takeout place and I was expecting a lot more. Quick and fresh every time I order to go! I usually get the pepper and tomato beef lunch combo and it is always good. Their eggrolls are not my personal favorite but I still eat them. Still great price and good amount of food. My go-to for local chinese! read more

I always like this place and I recommend this place when people ask for good Chinese but today I ordered a dinner combo and when I got home to enjoy the good food... the rice was all bad, it's like they over fried some of the rice or mixed with old dryer fried rice! First time coming here on a curbside pickup and it was phenomenal! Hands down the best chinese restaurant in the area. Lunch/Dinner are a bargain! I Ordered hot/spicy shredded beef combo comes with drink and egg roll, small beef Lo mein , and House Special Noodles soup. Although, I think I will not order the soup again. Wasn't a bad taste , but no taste of anything just lots of vegetables, and no noodles??? I will definitely be back any try other entrees. Btw! Fried rice is absolutely tasteful! Perfect. Not too salty or greasy. The vegetables was fresh and quality is A++. I'm very impressed with this place. read more

We've been ordering from Fortune House for a couple of years now and it used to be sort of hit or miss but over time it's been pretty consistently a big miss. My son always orders General Taos chicken and it's often so dry and hard it's inedible. I ordered the veggie delight and there had to be chunks of at least 3 whole bell peppers I picked out. It was HALF bell pepper. Who wants to sit down to a meal of bell pepper? Too often they forget to provide sauces for the dishes and we always do pick up so it's a huge hassle to have to back for a sauce. The past 2 times we've ordered from here we've ended up with a couple of days digestive distress and tossed out all the leftovers. I can't recommend this place to anyone in good faith. read more

I was a super fan of the Schaumburg location. Now we are closer to Elgin. We ordered a while back & the food was different. Dry. The potstickers which were our favorite were sus. We reordered then they should be called under cooked dough balls Gave them another chance last night. Thanks for reminding me why we stopped ordering. Do better. This place is just ok. I've been here a few times just because it's close to my house. I usually get sweet and sour pork which is hard to mess up and my only complaint about it is that it's usually overcooked. Still not terrible. Today I tried the sesame chicken lunch special. It's a very generous portion for 7.25. But I just didn't like the way they made it. The kind of sesame chicken that I like from other places uses dark meat chicken with a light breading and fried. This was dry cubes of chicken breast with a thick battered coating like you would get with sweet and sour pork. The kind that the entire breading falls all as soon as you stick your fork in it. I was just pretty disappointed. I will never order that again. I do like their hot and sour soup and the fried rice was pretty good. I wish it had egg in it though. I also got bbq spare ribs and, though they were pretty tasty, they were also a bit overcooked and tough, with not much meat on the bones. And with a price of almost $7 I felt like I was ripped off a bit. It seems like I'm just complaining here but it's not totally disgusting. I'm sure I'll be back when I have a hankering for some overcooked s&s pork and don't feel like driving far or taking a gamble on an unknown place. read more

Food was average Chinese food but they did give a decent size quantity and free egg rolls on our order so I really can't complain.

All good things must come to an end. Loved ordering from here, but as a month ago it soon began to crumble. Burnt sweet n sour chicken now 2 times and so greasy I was able to pour the grease out of the container into a bowl, portions have been cut in half but same price, and fried rice was hard and dry. Looks like it's time for a new Chinese place, will never order from here again. What a shame! read more

My go to for Chinese food went out of business about a year ago. Since then I had not had any take out. I received their flyer in the mail recently and since they are close, I decided to give them a try. I am glad I did, I was not disappointed. The food was hot and delicious. Took a big bite of what I was anticipating to be a yummy egg roll and immediately spit it out. All I tasted was peanut butter, nothing else. First time ordering from here. We opted for the lunch specials, General Tao chicken and Mongolian beef. An order of pot stickers was added as well to check them out. The potstickers were the largest, densest I have ever had in my life. There are 6 to an order and we only ate 2. Not a great start. Egg roll came free and was good not great. The General Tao was about a pound of chicken. Plenty for 3 people but no spice at all which was disappointing. The Mongolian beef was slightly spicier but 50% onion. Overall, meh experience. Driver brought food to door and complained about lack of parking, saying she had to double park. I assumed they weren't lying and explained there was a huge parking lot behind the building. Driver stated it was dark out and she was a female. Right after I watched as the driver entered their vehicle right below my window on the entrance street, which was more than half empty. So she did not double park and was in closest parking spot to the building (25 ft from door). It was a pointless and meaningless lie. No refund offered or anything, no one called, texted or let me know. 3:15 still no food. They finally showed up at 3:30pm. The food was incorrect but I didn't bother to call back. We used to order from there a lot, until tonight. We placed an online order at 5:15 for a 630 delivery. At 650 we called for an update and they said the driver should be there any minute as they are short a driver. Clearly they lied. At 7 we called and the rude manager said the food never went out but will soon or they can refund us if we want. Poor customer service and just admit your mistake and don't be rude about it!!! We've tried them a couple of times since they opened and the food has ranged from good to okay to no thanks. The meat in various dishes (chicken, pork & beef) just doesn't seem to be of good quality either very fatty or just not a good texture (chicken chunks that are a bit hard? no thank you).
