I was on a quest for my dense rye. Growing up in Chicago I went weekly to one of 20 polish delis nearby to buy my bread. I grew up in a Polish/Lithuanian neighborhood and loved their cuisine. I live in WI now where I have to travel to Milwaukee if I want my beloved bread. My quest brought me to a AJB. As soon as I entered the store I knew I was in the right place. Still coming here for several years now. This little place is a gem. The girls are very helpful and nice. The hot food is amazing and reasonably priced. The deli counter is always stocked full of fresh product. Their sandwiches are made a mile hi and put together as if my wife had made lunch. During Covid times the hot food was taken down and that was a real bummer but now that's it's back I will NEVER eat fast food out of a drive in again in my life. OK. I grew up in a Polish home, and enjoyed large family get togethers over the years. This food IS from that time. Authentic. The staff is so helpful and kind. We stopped in here while driving back from Schaumburg, but in Covid times it's difficult as it's extremely tiny! Masks are enforced by a sign on the door. We had hoped to find homemade pierogi but didn't see that they carried them; they do have a million varieties from Alexandra's brand, including many I have never seen before. There's a deli counter for kielbasa and other meats and cheese (mental note: they also sell farmer's cheese for pierogi making). We hoped to find challah-style bread but did not see any, though they did have other varieties, and a lady at the counter was asking about paczki, so those must be on the menu as well! Been coming here for years! Everything in the hot bar is so good and homemade and I love being able to go in there pretty much anytime and getting anything I need. Their potato salad is amazing! Since this is the only Polish market I've ever gone to I'll stick with 4 stars - but I love this place! We come here regularly to stock up on some gosh darned good stuff! It's tiny, but jam packed with all kinds of goodies. They make their own pierogies & you can buy them frozen (they have potato, potato & cheese, potato & bacon, meat, mushroom, sauerkraut, blueberry & strawberry - I can't remember if the fruit ones come with cheese, but I think they do) - we've tried them all and love 'em! The fruit pierogies are great for breakfast. There's many homemade soups packaged to go, red cabbage, sauerkraut, etc...They also have all kinds of desserts, both in the refrigerated section & with the bakery items. Yes, the canned goods may have a bit of dust on them, but they aren't expired or anything. ;-) Plus there are teas, candies, Polish greeting cards & even some beauty & pharmacy items. Last, but not least, is the meat counter. I think they have 6 kinds of kielbasa alone! Plus a variety of other meats. We recently purchased 4 huge Country Kielbasa links (each about 15" long and at least 1.5" in diameter) for $12.81! And they are sooooo good! Any staff working there speak both Polish & English so don't be afraid to ask questions - they are all very helpful & knowledgeable. Oh, and the last time we were there I saw their sign that they offer a "Hot Lunch" to go...can't wait to try that! read more

As you enter AJB you immediately notice 2 small shopping isles. The fact is, that's one too many for a store slightly larger than a box of wooden matches. However this match box packs a powerful punch concentrating on homemade soups, a variety of handmade kielbasa and a carry out hot lunch counter. This is not your everyday lunchtime destination...tender baked chicken, kielbasa swimming in a savory kapusta, hand made cabbage rolls, breaded pork chops, crusty on the outside/tender on the inside potato pancakes, cheese and fruit blintzes...I can go on. AJB needs to get rid of the small grocery isle of canned goods and such and open up the floor plan to accommodate what customers really want, homemade polish food, a focus on specialty deli items and some breathing room to enjoy it! A few small tables to eat your lunch would be a welcome addition to the atmosphere. As is, the footprint of AJB is a tight fit for customers.The cashier area is tell tale...2 is company, 3 is a crowd! read more

They have yummy hot foods-its good so they run out quickly!! But if you catch it when full - it'll make you happy! A couple of the gals (younger ones) are friendly, some of the older ones not friendly AT ALL. I come in here often, I am NOT Polish. The quality is great - if it wasn't so good I would stop coming here bcuz they ALWAYS make me feel like I am bothering them - ALWAYS make me feel like they are talking about me - are NOT friendly. Tonight was the first time we tried this place or any polish deli for that matter. We really liked it. Especially the stuffed cabbage and the veggie soup with cabbage and carrots and potato. Really tasty! I would much rather go here for lunch as it's far healthier. Lots of drive threw spots around this area and I'd still rather go here. Great food. You need to try for yourself honestly. Just as an added bonus they have these Nutella treats they sell... They are a hollow wafer cookie with Nutella and rice crispy inside. Holy cow are those good. Only here people. Best place to get kielbasa in Bartlett! They have several varieties and it is authentic. My Polish father-in-law makes great homemade kielbasa and when he cannot keep me supplied, I go to AJB. My review is based solely on this fact as I have never purchased anything else. read more

This store is way too small for what is offered and the amount of patrons they have. I have a little Polish in my heritage, but am not fluent in the language, so I find myself guessing at some of the food offerings. Most are delicious, from take home soups; to prepared salads; to the deli meats. They are probably known for the hot food they serve during certain hours. They need to replace styrofoam containers with plastic that seals since so many food offerings have sauces and no matter how careful I drive home, inevitably there is leaking if not spillage. It would also be nice if they would translate food labeling into English. read more

Since Helen's has closed, I've started coming here and found the food to be very good and consistent. The prices are very reasonable and the people are friendly. I tried DRM in St Charles but have found them to be inconsistent with the quality of their food and high priced. The stuffed cabbage here is delicious and the sauce has a good taste to it. I have had the pierogi and it is also good as well as their soups. If you don't look closely, you'll miss this tiny place. The prices are very reasonable. I love coming here for cheap deli meats and sausage. Their beef Tatar is pretty legit as well. Raw meat and I've never gotten sick.. So it must be good. But, this place is tiny.
