I was an early diner and lucky enough to have the chef (his name is Flexx) all to myself. We had a lovely conversation in which he shared with me not only his travels and training to have a great Thai restaurant, but also his passion to share Thai cuisine with everyone. His passion and care for his craft shows through in his cuisine. Flavorful and fresh, it satisfies the pallet and soothes the soul. I had the fresh spring rolls as an appetizer. The presentation was world class and the rolls were incredibly delicious. A spice tray can be requested and encouraged! Try the different jars and experience the heat your way. I ordered the crispy garlic chicken. A traditional Thai dish, except it's done with his own twists and it's delicious. The garlic and basil were present but not overpowering. The flavor and spice combine for a burst of flavor and richness. The chicken crisp and flavorful without being dried and overdone. The entire meal was fresh and delicious. I finished out my Thai experience with Mango sticky rice. You have to see, and taste, this dessert yo believe it. Every place should have a bit of mystery. This is where I leave one for you. The restaurant has been sold and, as a result, Yum Mi has lost some of its charm. Mom is no longer in the back. They've rearranged tables to the point of an obstacle course to get to a table. And if folks are waiting for take out, you really have to try to avoid them. The new spring rolls don't come close to the originals. (Compare pictures). Prices are up about $2 across the menu. And portions are significantly smaller. Note new, smaller square plates rather than original (larger) round dishes (check the pictures). While mom used to spice the dishes in the back, now they avoid spice and let you mix in your own. A spice tray provides several options. The food, while prepared differently, still tastes fine. But what really stung was the missing home cooking atmosphere. The chef/owner was sitting by the exit and didn't offer so much as a smile or a thank you as we left. I cannot believe i've been driving across the Ohio river from Indiana to Louisville, Kentucky to find my favorite dish, pad Thai. I noticed this restaurant as I was going down Charlestown Road and decided to give it a chance. The Pad Thai was the freshest and best I've ever had. I went 8 days ago and have ordered the pad Thai 3 times (due to disability, my income is limited otherwise I would go there every day)...it's that good! I also splurged once and ordered Spring rolls which were also so fresh and well made. Bottom Line: I've been driving to The Highlands in Louisville only to find out years later that there is a better restaurant less than a mile from my house! I would be remiss if I didn't close this review with a shout out to the caring and excellent staff! read more

I finally found pretty good flat noodles! It was my first time at this place and I had read mixed reviews. Right off the bat Heather, who was working the tables was very nice and friendly. She answered all of my questions related to vegetarian food. I don't eat meat or seafood and she went above and beyond to ask the chef followed by the chef stepping out to explain to me what my best choices would be. I truly truly truly enjoyed my drunken noodles and I feel so happy to have found the spot. I forgot to take a picture of my noodles because I was so excited to try them and I ate them all. The noodles did not look any different than any other noodles anywhere else, but they tasted just like how I wanted them too. Chewy with the slightly sweet soya sauce, and the basil as the cherry on the top. I would have liked for the portion to be slightly bigger for what I paid but I understand the times we live in. The food was awesome and service was incredible. They have only been opened for about 2 months. I can see this being a staple restaurant for this area which lacks a Thai presence. My first time at Yum Mi. I has it while driving on Charlestown Rd in New Albany. I really like Thai food so I looked up reviews abs the were good. The inside is nice but more importantly the server was very nice. The Pahd Thai was so good. It was different than I had at other places. I like that Yum Mi's includes a fair amount of vegetables. The flavor was amazing. The spice level is 0-5. I ordered a level 3 and it was almost too much for me. It was still very good and I ate it all. The next time I will order level 2. This was offensively bad. This was the worst pad thai I've ever had. I'm not even sure I've ever had food that was this bad in general. Didn't even taste remotely close to pad thai. Tasted like nothing! I never throw away good and I threw this away. It was THAT bad. I got a level 3 spicy, as I was told level 4 was "really really spicy", and there was zero spice in it. I picked up my food about 40 min prior to closing, so maybe they just gave me leftover microwaved mush and threw it in the to go box? Either way, it's so rude to serve careless food. I didn't give one star because the service was very nice on the phone and in person, but they can't be serving this crap, the banh mi was definitely better than the pad thai, but the meat tasted a bit funky. I definitely don't recommend and I definitely would never go back. My stomach is not happy. read more

Stopped in for lunch this afternoon. I chose the Thai Style Beef Noodle soup with a "3" spice level. The soup was outstanding and the heat level was perfect. It was spicy and had me sweating and my lips numb and tingling after I finished. The service was great and the huge bowl of soup was definitely worth the money. What a delightful place! The food ans service was top notch. We stopped here for a bite of something different. It was so taste. Where do I begin? My wife had Bahn Mi Sandwich, my daughter had one of the soups but I forget which and I had the Pad Thai with chicken we also tried Spring Rolls. It just so happened we ran into my cousin and his wife. Being my first time there he warned me not to go beyond 1 in spice. Glad I did. Because while I love the heat, I would not have been ready for anything more than it. Next time I may go up one.
