    FRIED DUMPLINGS (4)

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This place is more quick service, but you can sit down and eat.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's pretty spacious and a nice spot for hanging with friends or stopping by for a casual lunch/dinner.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Honestly the food was very good. We came for the pho, but the star for me was the garlic pepper wings. I highly recommend.

I was not impressed. The Vietnamese curry with chicken was very mediocre. The salad was better, but still just good. Nothing to get excited about.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]We visited Moondog on a Friday evening and were met with the lively sounds of the salsa music from the neighboring restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The open floor plan and walk up counter had a menu board overhead outlining the offerings.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My companion and I decided to try a few items for sharing. We had pan fried dumplings, lemongrass chicken noodle bowl and the Vietnamese curry, also with chicken. The counter service was efficient and my Thai tea was served quickly. He got the mango ice tea which was self serve. The dumplings were crispy and flavorful with an amazing dipping sauce. The curry was as expected and tasty. It had a side of rice. The start was the noodle bowl. The chicken was marinated and cooked perfectly and was very tender. The sauce, I forget the name was divine. Fresh veggies and herbs really made it complete. We will return and I think hubby would enjoy.

Formerly Pho-ba-lou, now moon dogs. Same concept, different name. PHO is amazing. Broth is rich and favorable. Service is pretty fast. Food was hot and delicious. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nice ambiance inside and out.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Check it out for sure.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The location and ambiance was great. Cool little spot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Not a lot of seating but doesn't seem to be crowded much so there is no wait.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There is also a parking lot that close to the building and parking on the street. I didn't think the food was spectacular. I have had better pho in the city. We got the beef pho and it didn't really have any flavor. I added a lot of spice and hoisin sauce to add flavor to it. The egg rolls were the best thing with the sweet and sour dipping sauce. We tried the fried chicken in fish sauce glaze. The sauce was good once you got past the smell, if you can. I will say the sauce was quite salty as well. It had a lot of soy sauce as the base and that added the salt. The soda machine also was our go CO2 so none of the drinks were good. I most likely will not come here again. There is nothing enticing me too when I can find better pho at other places.

I had been meaning to check out Moon Dog for a while, ever since I saw that it had changed from its previous business, Pho Ba Luu. So when I had the chance to order delivery, I gave it a go. I went with the garlic noodles, which have become a staple in my house. I make them at least once a month but have never ordered them from a restaurant. I was so excited when I saw this on the menu. And they were ... OK. They weren't bad but didn't have the big garlic flavor I was expecting. They reminded me more of lo mein noodles with a little extra garlic mixed in. I will probably order something different the next time I try them. I also got a Thai tea, which was exactly what I wanted. Overall, a decent meal. I would just go back and try a different dish.

Yes yes yes! Returned and they have resolved both the previously mentioned temperature and bowl-fullness issues. All the good things remain the same - the flavor, the service, the friendliness, the speed, the quality. Go here. Eat the pho. Fabulous.

Top chicken pho, pho fries and beef pho add meatballs

Really great late night (or any other time) spot. Most places close at 9-10 but they are open late so you can actually get something other than a burger or pizza in Lou. Their pho is great and their fries omfg GET THE FRIES they are so good and you get a huge portion and they are so addictive. Never had fries seasoned like that and it's just awesome. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Also the place is so cute too.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]My only slight complaint are the tables on their patio. It's a great space but the tables are so hard to keep from spilling your drinks bc they are just kinda wonky but that's it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

This place ROCKS! [[HIGHLIGHT]]As soon as you walk in you know it's a great spot for drinks and a bite to eat.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food and drinks were delicious, I genuinely scarfed both up in record time. I can't wait to bring my friends back here to try it

Lemongrass Chicken Noodle Bowl ($15) with 2 seafood & pork Vietnamese egg roll ($2.50)
    Risa H.

MoonDog is one of the few places open after 10PM to grab a bite in the Nulu area, and it's a hit! We landed at the airport around 9AM and walked to MoonDog for a late night dinner. We ordered the Vietnamese Hot Chicken Banh Mi ($15) and the Lemongrass Chicken Noodle Bowl ($15) with an addition of 2 seafood & pork Vietnamese egg rolls ($2.50). Both items were so good and came out fast. The bread on the Banh Mi was crispy and the chicken had a mild spice to it. The vermicelli noodle bowl was my favorite - it had lots of chicken in it and the egg rolls were delicious! They have siracha, hoisin sauce and fish sauce in a fridge by the drinks for you to use to your liking. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The open kitchen concept was cool and there is also a bar serving drinks.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Love that this spot is open till 1AM when everything else closes early on the weekdays!

Got the fried dumplings and a drink from the bar and they were both fire. They are also open late which is nice & the owner Tin is funny and kind. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They also have a patio if you want to sit outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The decor is very cute and they had a good playlist as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] love MoonDog

This was my first visit to Moondog since the rebrand, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The ambiance is very inviting as you walk in. I couldn't help but stare up at the ceiling while trying to navigate the tables and sidle up to the bar. After ordering a refeshing Pandan cocktail, it was time to look at the food menu. One thing I love about MoonDog (and its preceding name, Pho Ba Luu) is that the small plates and affordable prices make it easy to split a bunch of things. The spring rolls and wings were awesome, as usual. Even though it was hot outside, it was raining, so a curry bowl still felt appropriate. No regrets - it was awesome. As a final treat, I asked the bartender to make the same thing I saw him whip up for several others: his favorite cocktail. I don't know what all the ingredient are, but if you don't have an aversion to jager, make sure to ask. It was delicious! We will continue ordering mostly takeout from here, but I think the changes they made enhance the dining and drinking experience tenfold. If you're in the NuLu/Butchertown area, make sure to go inside!

Great food, albeit pretty pricy. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Really nice staff and and interior design.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Parking is a challenge being on the edge of butchertown and nulu. Be prepared to hunt for a spot, but bring your appetite. Pho and shaking beef are top tier dishes

We had the fried tofu appetizer. The fried tofu came with a sweet chili sauce and was so good. When you bite into it there's a nice little crunch which is immediately met by the creamy interior (be careful it's hot!) and the flavor is amazing. The pho...oh my, the pho! The broth was full of flavor. The short ribs were tender. It was amazing! So...what's with the one star? I debated with myself on this but I had to give one star for the service. It was horrendous. We walked in and stood by the entrance for a good 10 minutes before anyone who worked there acknowledged us. We were finally seated, and, no lie, it took another 35 minutes before we got water (more on that in a minute). After we were seated, we knew exactly what we wanted so we closed our menus and waited...and waited...and waited...and waited. Thirty minutes after we sat down he finally took our order along with two other tables of two, who were seated well after we were (make it make sense). The two tables who came after us but ordered at the same time as us received their food a good 10 minutes before we did. I was beginning to think he didn't like us for some reason. I had no interaction with him. Didn't know him. So I don't know why he wouldn't like us. There was another couple who he seemed to know. He sat them quickly, took their order, and gave them their food--all in the span of about 20 minutes. Why was our service so bad? Needless to say--one star. If you don't mind horrible service...oh yeah, about that water. My water glass had something stuck to it. It was nasty! Should never have been given to a customer. Since we were, for the most part, being ignored, I had to walk over to him and ask if I could have a new glass. He mumbled "oh yea" and brought me a new one with a "sorry bout that" while he was walking away. Horrible service. If you don't mind horrible service, the food is great. I won't be going back.

First impressions: very clean facility, very warm and welcoming owner (Trieck was his name) and his adorable daughter doing homework by the cash register. He very kindly explained how he understands that vegetarian pho does not have meat And that he has the Buddhist version of the pho that his mom eats. I ordered to go because I wanted to run next door to their grocery section. I love me a good Vietnamese grocery store and products from all over the world. Pho is typically eaten at the establishment to make sure that the fix-ins and the method of consumption is 10 on 10 aka it does not hold very well when transported. I was happy to find that they had done such a great job packaging all the fixings and the soup. Very generous portions. I proceeded with the taste test. I have learned from my Vietnamese friends that you never add condiments to your soup right off the bat. You must savor the soup the way it is the first couple times to truly get all the flavors in before you start adding stuff . This was excellently seasoned broth base. The base was just perfect to me. After creating the whole experience at home, I can say I truly did enjoy eating pho from here. Good vegetarian phos are hard to come by and I will definitely return to try their other delicacies. If I had a couple words of wisdom, I think the soup could use a few more pieces of vegetables and tofu. But overall, I throughly enjoyed my meal and will return.
