great service and a nice restaurant layout inside- except the food was not satisfactory and the vibe/art-work outside and inside was promoting all kinds of asian stereotypes. First, you park your car and the first thing you see is the window painted with a hibachi man with slanted eyes. seriously? this is 2021! and then you sigh, open the doors and immediately see a geisha-like manga style painting (the kimono sliding down her shoulders in the painting), and more of those inside. a classic case of japanese culture appropriation!! the menu offered - thank goodness - a variety. i was surprised to find katsu curry and ordered it. what i got was curry spiced mirky liquid (it was too watery) with pork katsu so overdone that it was hard to chew and the meat shards stuck to all my teeth after chewing. the fried coating was too thin and burned, they seemed not to have used the traditional panko crumbs. oh well. the roll was ok. as for the cooking, I applaud their efforts to make the food selection more varied and trying traditional things, but the basics aren't done right. and they really need to do something about the painting outside/inside the restaurant. please. read more

I would like to review the food, but can't. We went in and had a party of 6 on a Monday evening. Hostess quoted us 35 min bc there was a party in front of us. So we decided to go the bar. After 30 min had passed and went to check on the status and heard it was another 35 min. We had drinks and were catching up with friends so we were content. AFTER another 30 min passed, we went back to check the status and apparently some call in people were placed in front of us, making it another 35-45 min wait. I was told the hostess was new but there was no communication to us. We paid the bartender and left. We will never return. read more

Considering the high reviews, I came to Yuimaru Kitchen with high hopes. I love sushi & had heard a lot about it, so I decided to try. Safe to say, it was not for me. I ordered two of the speciality roles (basically shrimp & crab rolls), and they were not fresh. The shrimp in one of the rolls looked questionable, and I couldn't bring myself to eat it. My brother got the bulgogi & said it was just alright. The service was also sub-par. I would pick the Label's sushi & Cafe One 11's sushi over theres anyday. read more

The fam and I went here for the sushi night, and we were not disappointed! Wednesday night was the sushi special- cheaper basic rolls and 2 for $20 special rolls. The sushi we got (6 rolls in total) was very good. We would highly recommend the Mountain roll, the New Orleans roll (crayfish with a Cajun kick), and the Angry Dragon. Each roll was good enough that no one wanted to share. This place was divided up into Hibachi and dine-in, and both sections were crowded- but even then the service was relatively prompt. My friends and I went here Wednesday, we had sushi , it was good . Some of us wanted to put in to go orders & yes it was before 8:30!! We spoke to the manager about it at 8:38 & she kept saying if the order is in before 8:30 they must make it ,after we repeatedly told her it was. The waiter even told us the chef said if he put in another order he would murder him. They close at 8:30! Yes ,yes we know your staff gets there at 9 to prep but 8:30 to close is a bit early. I decided to give Yuimaru Kitchen a try yesterday. Let me start by saying, I was very impressed! I ordered takeout for dinner; I got the spicy salmon roll, a side order of fried rice and a side order of kimchi. Everything was delicious and nicely plated, especially for a takeout order. Visited a couple weeks ago for the teppan/hibachi grill. Show was great. Food was good and portions were plentiful. I felt the hostess and waiter might have been new because of a couple very small shortcomings. Not enough to deduct a star. Will look forward to coming back for the other side of the restaurant for sushi/ramen/etc. Very glad to see a restaurant like this in Johnson City. Unfortunately, another Asian restaurant came and went so quickly that I didn't have a chance to visit. There are many restaurants in the city but I feel the variety is limited. Good hibachi! My family enjoys hibachi and routinely travels to have it. We were happy to find this place open in Johnson City while visiting family. The "show" was good - our table cook was personable and chatted with us. He was short a piece of salmon, which he quickly realized and got on the grill. The steak and shrimp were tasty, the sushi was reasonably good, if not super exciting, and our party of 6 were well tended to. Highlight of the meal was the noodles, surprisingly. They come with every order and were great. My wife had scallops, which were chewy and not impressive. She said she's getting the salmon next time. The one issue we had was that the kid's hibachi only allows for steak or chicken - our 5 yr old son wanted salmon. The server said "they couldn't do that" and I assume that's because their POS system doesn't allow for the option. We just ordered him the adult portion, which is fine because a) he'll eat it, and b) it's a $3 difference. Frankly, a $3 savings on the kids portion isn't really enough of a deal to warrant the option. That aside, it was a lovely experience and We will definitely be back! read more

I have been here a few times already and so far the food has been fantastic. The dozen or so types of sushi I've tried have always been great and the few other dishes I have had have been spot on. The hibachi tables were delicious and the guys manning it were quite entertaining. This place is pretty darn close to the excellent Asian restaurants I have missed since I left Philly a few years back. Service-wise there has been a miss here and there, but overall they are super friendly and still getting settled in so that's not much of a nuisance.
