This is such a warm and friendly place! We were here on a saturday evening and found a nice table inside. we scanned the QR code for the menu and made our selections. we chose the reuben and the chicken fingers with fries. we also got the tower town blonde beer. soooo good! the food came out hot and delicious! These fries are some of the best i have had. you absolutely MUST order them. Trust me. Ypsi Alehouse has been on my list for quite some time. The tag makes me giggle. Anyway, we stopped in for an ice cold one and to grab my tagabrew. It was a fun place. It wasn't too crazy for a Weds evening, but we got a feel for it. We were able to sit outside and enjoy the gorgeous weather. I was happy to see an amber on the menu and of course opted for this. I tried to broaden my horizons a bit this week but I just can't help it. I like what I like and can usually find something on the menu to enjoy. Used to like this place but on Tuesday (10-7-25) in the afternoon when I went in to get some food, the kitchen manager was so unprofessional it was pathetic. I could hear him screaming and yelling at a worker in the kitchen. This isn't the first time, either, but it definitely was the last. There was an older couple at the bar at the time and I was surprised they didn't get up and walk out like I did. I never ordered anything and I refuse to give my business or my money to a business where they allow their manager to mistreat workers. Shame on you to the owner of this establishment. I gave your establishment another chance hoping that you had gotten rid of bad management, but apparently not. Do better! read more

If I could rate zero stars I would. Customer service there was unexplainable rude. When we walked in, we asked some one who very obviously worked there if they did and they continued to walk away from us after saying "yeah i do" in a very dismissive tone and didn't even attempt to assist. Then another worker walks past us and stares and walks away. We then step outside to call to see what was going on and if there was someone who could help us get our online order. The person on the phone answered in a very catty tone after me explaining what just happened and they said "let me come up front" again very dismissively. When we got met with the staff member at the door they said "you have to come to the front" which was in the back near the bar. Which made no sense. No apology on their end, no explanation on why the "backdoor" is placed out front and you just said "let me come up front" when walking to the so called back. Whatever this place is needs some serious restaffing, because it's is definitely not a business. Don't even get me started on the food, it was nasty, cold, and looked nothing like the what was described on the menu. I understand with my order being online there is a delay usually in the making of the food to being on your dining room table, however the way they packaged the food almost ensured it got cold within a couple minutes. This was the first place in Ypsi my friends took me to while I was visiting. So that being said, this spot had some big shoes to fill--- and let me tell you it did not disappoint! I wanted a good burger--Now, I'm a Texan. A good burger, is important to me, and is typically hard to find outside of the Lone Star State. However, this burger was pretty dang delicious. It was well seasoned, the perfect size, and had a nice char to it. We ordered the rosemary truffle fries, and those completely changed my life. I devoured them so fast, we had to order another batch. A word of caution that the online menu didn't entirely match the paper one, but everything was great. The cherry cider here is fantastic, well worth going out of your way for. Ypsi Alehouse had long been on my radar to check out. It's a spot that hosts Sunday night trivia (great pastime for a group of friends), and while I couldn't drum up a team to join me then, I was able to check it out on a recent weekend night out in Ypsi. Located downtown but slightly off the main drag, it's just the type of spot you will want to frequent now that the weather is cooling down. The cozy bar vibe is enhanced with closely-spaced tables and several seating area with comfy chairs, but if you're in the mood for a high-too table, you can find those near the bar area as well. A band was warming up when we popped in, so you can imagine some great tunes being played throughout the night here too. They have a variety of beers on tap, and while I'm not a fan of beer, the guys in my group who are were impressed with the selection and the taste of what they ordered. We stayed and chatted over a round before heading out for dinner elsewhere, although the bar bites looked pretty tempting and will warrant a repeat visit. What brought us here? Groupon! Came in pretty late at night. There was a cozy corner near the bar where everyone was. Our Groupon got us 2 flight of beer. Every brewery/ale house has a unique flight. This was definitely one of them. You have to have a finesse on grabbing the whole thing. The choices we had was good, granting it is still winter, and in my experience that is more warm and cozy flavors (which I'm not too fond of). We also got fries (no pictures) it was yummy. So I just dove right to it. And the ice cream bar from ice box brand. We got the green dragon which is the mint ice cream with Oreo. There's 2 sizes which cost $3 & $5. I suggest getting the smaller ones. We had the $5 for use to share, it was definitely more than enough. We also had a few minuted of fun with the darts. Overall our night experience was fun. It's a bar with a side of brewed beers. I liked the dark atmosphere in this hole in the wall local tap house. There's no shortage of people watching and culture for the area and it seems they're open to the local music seen. I was pleasantly surprised by this place! My husband and I had been wanting to try it for a while after reading a yelp review of a friend. We went on a Friday night, which we thought would be pretty packed but surprisingly it was pretty empty! Upon entering, you're asked to get a menu, pick a seat and then when you're ready order at the bar. We founds seats in their main dining area but it looked like a nice space with some high top tables at the bar, the bar itself, and then the dining area. There was a more open area where there were tables, but were cleared for some Friday night music taking place. Now I will say this: the space is small and when music is happening it gets SO LOUD that you can't hear or talk to anyone without yelling. So be warned about that. The menu blew me away. They had so many vegetarian options and actually many vegan options! We ordered a basket of their truffle fries which were so delicious (and vegan!). They're beer battered and then seasoned with truffle and herbs and served with a side of aioli. The aioli I wasn't too crazy about. Tasted a little too "sweet" than it should. For dinner, I ordered the sweet potato poletnta cakes: three mini polenta cakes topped with sweet potatoes, a chimicurri, jalepenos and other things. It can be made vegan (without sour cream) and you can add a protein on top. I chose the chipotle black bean burger, which was served on the side. This dish was great! It wasn't too heavy, great for one person. The flavors were so robust and smokey. I'd recommend this dish to anyone as an entree! Overall, it was a great dining experience. It's not in the best part of Ypsilanti...well I take that back we didn't feel unsafe there, but it's not he most "family-friendly" location of Ypsilanti since the DejaVu gentleman's club is kitty corner to the Alehouse. But, parking is free in the lots nearby, the service was great, staff was friendly and suggested things for us since it was our first time and the food was delicious. Wasn't sure where to go, so the bartender took me back to the other side and we were told the grub hub order went out for delivery. I clarified I ordered it for pick up and was sent a notification that it was ready. I could hear the woman in the kitchen saying grub hub orders can wait until in house guest are served. Went to the bar and had a cider which wasn't anything special while I waited for about 15 minutes for food. When I was at the door leaving, the woman came from the kitchen and told me grub hub drivers should wait by the door. I said it was for me and I got a drink while I waited. She said well you were in the way and to wait here for grub hub orders. I walked out saying thanks that makes me feel welcomed. Burger was over salted and undercooked with a sad excuse for lettuce. The Alehouse is the best place for beer in Ypsi with the friendliest staff. The Hotel Porter is so tasty (and has been off tap for something like 10 months so we're thrilled that it's back!). We love their food, particularly the burgers. The fries are also amazing- golden and crispy every time. Most nights you can find something fun happening, like live music, comedy or trivia. The beer was great and I enjoyed my company, but I was very disappointed with the service. I am a Tagabrewer and enjoy checking out all of the Tag-A-Brew breweries, but this was the worst service I have ever received. What made it worse is it is in my own backyard. I was not greeted, not approached at the table, and when I finally made it to bar was ignored. I had been standing there for quite a while and one of the bar tenders looked me in the eye several times but never offered to help. It's fine, but I've never had anything that wowed me, and the prices are too high for the quality, in my opinion. 4 stars for the atmosphere. Their live music is decent. But here's where it gets dicey... 1 star for the food, y'all. They have good french fries, but that's about it. I've heard that the food used to be great, but the kitchen has fallen flat in recent years, and that seems to be the case. The fish in the fish and chips was greasy, overcooked, and weirdly tiny. No bueno. Their black bean burger is, without a doubt, the single worst black bean burger I've ever had the displeasure of eating. I've had a lot of iffy veggie burgers in my day, but y'all, this one was so bad I couldn't even eat it. Completely flavorless, at once both mushy and chunky (how is that possible?), with raw bits of carrot sprinkled throughout. I'd rather be charged $10 for a frozen morningstar patty, honestly. Super fun place! We had a groupon and went in expecting it to be a brewery with not much else. Well were we surprised!! In addition to yummy beer, they have food, board games, and there was live music later in the evening. We really enjoyed the fries and aioli. Our game of scrabble came to almost a stand still because we couldn't stop eating the fries. Definitely going to get them again next time we go. As the musicians were setting up, more people started trickling in, but it still wasn't overly loud or crowded. Tonight my friend's band was supposed to play. They had their entire set up, and were ready to go. Ypsi Alehouse let their liquor license expire and got shut down from selling alcohol. Instead of staying open for food and nonalcoholic beverages, they sent their entire staff home and canceled the band. We had about 50- 75 friends and family coming, and almost all were willing to buy food and pop. They also complained about having to throw out food for the entire weekend. I am not sure why exactly an Alehouse would allow their liquor license to expire, but it certainly shows a lack of professionalism. We were all extremely disappointed in this establishment. We moved the show to a local backyard, and had a great party. Get it together Alehouse! read more

They're freshly open, so I'll give them four stars provisionally and adjust as needed. The yutz behind me in line asked "Is it only craft beer here, or do you have real brands?" If I ran the joint, that would be enough to bounce the guy out on his ear. The server didn't do that; this says much of the chill atmosphere. When I entered the air was fragrant with their brisket chili, which I ordered. Chili is often a dicey proposition, because chili preferences are every bit as personal as beer preferences, and no guarantee your taste will match theirs. Ypsi Alehouse chili was a little sweet for my taste, but a nice amount of heat is there, and the smokiness of the brisket is a welcome addition. I probably should have gotten a beer flight, but the Jimmy Jack Normal Beer was tasty. Good tartness, not bitter, carbonation sharp on the tongue. I could easily session this if I let myself. Prices feel a little high, however the menu says the staff are paid a living wage and tipping is discouraged. I was comfortable with the total I paid, but it still felt weird to deliberately not tip. Service was pleasant, though possibly not up to speed. (First day, so I'll forgive that.) And besides, you can teach systems a lot more easily than you can teach nice. I'll be back. read more

Got the wings for $10 as an app and they were liberally the smallest wings I've ever seen. We asked to get 1/2 tossed in bbq and the other in 1/2 the Thai peanut to try it out and they said no. Left and went to Red Rock instead to get entrees as we were afraid they wouldn't be good here. The beer was good and the light by the bar was cool. My wife and I have some friends that are in a band and they were playing at the Ypsi Alehouse on Thursday, February 2. So, my wife and I made our first trip to this pub to listen to our friends play. For those that have never been here please take notice that this is set up like a traditional English pub. This means that you order your food & drinks at the bar and then take a seat with your drinks and wait for your food to be brought out to you. Also, the menu states that this is a NO TIPPING pub because the owner pays the workers a living wage. These are just a couple of things to keep in mind if you choose to visit. The food & drinks menus are on a table as you first walk into the pub. The menus were pretty diverse and some eclectic items on them, especially considering the fact that we were in a pub. We went in expecting the usual bar fare but were pleasantly surprised at what we found. We made our decisions and meandered over to the bar to place our orders. The lady working the bar was very pleasant and patiently answered all of our questions. To be honest, when we found out it was a no tipping pub we were cautiously optimistic about the service. However, by the time the night ended we were very satisfied with the level of service we received. One of the things we liked was that once we placed our order they ran our credit card so that a tab could be opened. Some may not like this but we found it convenient when going back to the bar to place additional orders. Now, let's talk about the important things: Their beer and food! My wife and I each ordered a JimmyJacks's Normal Beer to drink and an order of Sweet Potato Polenta Cakes to share. My wife also order the Mac-n-Cheese Grilled Cheese w/Chicken and I ordered the Mac-n-Cheese Grilled Cheese w/Pulled Pork. There were only a handful of other people in the pub at this time so our food arrived within 10 minutes. However, the pub got packed by the time we left so the wait times could be longer during peak hours. The Sweet Potato Polenta Cakes had the right amount of jalapenos to give it a nice little kick. They let you know they were there without being overpowering. There was a subtle smoky flavor as well. Overall, we would score these as a 4. Our sandwiches were huge and had generous portions. Unfortunately, they were cold. We expected a Mac-n-Cheese Grilled Cheese sandwich to be hot or at least warm but, sadly, these were cold. It was as if the mac-n-cheese had been prepared earlier in the day and it had been sitting around. Nonetheless, the Mac-n-Cheese Grilled Cheese w/Pulled Pork had good flavor and the pork was moist. The bread was nice and thick and crunchy as well. My wife's Mac-n-Cheese Grilled Cheese w/Chicken wasn't as tasty. The chicken was lean and plentiful but it was bland. She agreed that my sandwich was better and she also liked the bread on both sandwiches. Overall, we would score the sandwiches as a 2.5-3. To finish, we ordered a Peanut Butter Cookie. We love peanut butter cookies!!! So, it can be hit or miss when it comes to peanut butter cookies at different restaurants/stores. However, this cookie was might tasty and was nice & moist! We would score the cookie as a 5. We really liked the JimmyJack's Normal beer and went back and ordered a second one. We found the atmosphere & vibe to be nice and also found the pub to be comfortable. Also, we found all of the staff to be friendly and helpful. We would score the atmosphere & service as a 4.
