The company then quoted me $2200 as the cost to replace it and reiterated that this did not include the $99 that they already charged me. So yes, had I gone with that company, it would have cost me $2300. Armed with this information, I posted pictures and exactly what the "diagnosis" said and asked for emailed quotes...to be clear I said EMAIL only. I then got no less than 10 phone calls saying "please give us a call so we can talk about your situation. Some called more than once. Lakeland Heating and Cooling (Jason) was nothing like that... $1270 flat rate to replace the water heater. Yes, thats how he replied in his email.. as I requested. He came in.. with the water heater... replaced it... and went on his way. Other companies, that followed directions, also came in higher than $2000. I am EXTREMELY satisfied with Jason and Lakeland! I finally got a HVAC company company to come out to my house, but they didn't listen to my suggestions or concerns, and instead charged me $89 to tell me "the sweating vent you have is probably caused by your filter". Spoiler alert: it wasn't. Whereas, Tamar listened to what I asked, solved the problem, and offered helpful suggestions. They are my new go-to HVAC guys!

We called Controlled Temperature to come out and fix it, since they've done work for us several times. Not only were they on time, courteous, and reasonably priced, but they noticed that the motor in the heating unit was turning because the water had gotten into the electrical board and caused a short. They unplugged the unit and wrote down all of the information so we could have the board replaced before winter, by whatever company we wanted...and saved us the $800 it would have cost to replace the motor, which would have burned out had the short not been discovered.
