I don't know how I've never written a review for this place! I've been here many times over the years. For a little while so often that the lady who works the counter recognized me. I always get the meat jun from here, to me it's like one of the best ones on the island! They give very good portions and the sauce is different from anywhere else you'd go. It isn't like a super liquidy sauce, it's a little bit on the thicker side. which helps it stick to the meat jun really well. The gyoza is like super thick boys and full of filling! After covid they only do take out which is a little bit of a shame, i liked sitting down and getting all the sides that come with ordering korean food. Now it's just kim chee. I ordered the BBQ chicken plate and BBQ chicken with meatjun. Both were incredibly flavorful--perfectly marinated and cooked to perfection. The meatjun was tender and paired well with the rice and veggies included in the plate. Each bite was packed with flavor and satisfaction! The only downside was the wait time--about 30 minutes for my order. I'd definitely recommend calling ahead to avoid the wait, especially if you're hungry. Our hanai ohana ordered trays of meat jun, chicken katsu, and kalbee short ribs for a birthday dinner last night... I clearly remember and can confidently say that Young's Kalbee does their short ribs justice. I've had kalbee many times, but somehow, only Young's makes theirs so flavorful and tender. Spent about twenty fiour dollars for the mix plate of Kalbi and Meat Jun. Though the Meat Jun had thicker egg wash that I prefer it was tasty and tender. The Kalbi was made with thinly sliced short ribs. The meat was tender. The Kalbi marinade was perfect.. Kim, I presume is the owner waited on me and was very opolegetic for the wait. I knew better, I called for my order to go. The man over the phone said it was 45 minutes. Upon arriving, parking is a little scarce here. I arrived the same time as another family who happened to know the owners. They chatted a bit, the wait has to be done outside since they are still only doing takeout. They do take credit cards here when I was here. I think the lady owner was surprised in a good way when she saw a tip for a togo order. Honestly, you should tip regardless even if it's takeout. Helps them with the CC fees. When I was waiting, they had a plaque adorned on the interior wall stating they had the best meat jun. You know what? They are correct. It had to be one of the best meat jun I've ever had. Light simple coating, with tender meat on the inside. As for the Kalbee, you get that sweetness and the char. I kind of regret getting only one. I typically get Kalbi at Korean BBQ places here in the mainland but they do justice to the meats here. Portions are terrific and all plates are around $20 and the sides of kimchee is delish as well. First, parking was so hard to find for us this day. They have 3 parking spots in the front and then the rest you have to pay for. We came around 2pm on a Wednesday so didn't expect parking to be difficult but it was. Second, they don't do dine in at all so you have to call and order ahead. Our order took 15 mins which wasn't that bad of a wait at all. Food was delicious. That bbq chicken plate took me back to my days of walking the mall and eating bourbon chicken. It was juicy, flavorful, and that grilled/ char on it was the icing on the cake. My husband loved his kal bee ribs and chicken katsu. He said it's some of the best kal bee he's ever had. Katsu was good, mostly chicken which was nice. It just wasn't that special to me, I felt like it needed a sauce of something but my husband loved it so that's all that matters. Both plates came with rice, veggies, and kimchi. The kimchi was spicy so beware if you're not into spice. Prices are fair and the portions today were HUGE. 100% worth it. read more

I brought a mini pan of meat jun to a friends' get together of heavy pupus, everyone commented on saying it's the best meat jun they've ever had and where did it come from. The meat is perfectly marinated all the way through and the egg batter did not fall off the pieces. Each piece sliced well, all the way thru. I called to order at 2pm for a 5pm pick up, had to call 3 times because the phone had a busy tone. Lady answered, said "hello, very busy hold on ", she put the phone down and helped the customers. I could hear every conversation with the customers there, she was busy. 5 minutes later, she apologized for the wait and took my order. I got there at 4:50 and there was a line of 2 customers in front of me, one more couple waiting for their order on the side. I told I was there to pick up my pan, she told me they're cutting up my meat jun almost ready. After 5-10 minutes paid for my pan and went on my was. My mini pan was $83, and it came with a good size container of their spicy meat jun sauce, we had 12 of us, and we each got to take home after the party. It was a good amount. Even my local korean friends commented on how good it was, again asked where it came from. Young's Kalbee is currently take out only. This has been our neighborhood gem for Korean food. Everyone that I saw that went to pick up their plates, the lady was really friendly with them. It was like she knew everyone, and everyone knew her. I've tried their Katsu which is also a crowd favorite, Kalbi and Bbq chicken. Their chicken reminds me of a chicken place called Myong's that closed decades ago in the Young Street area of town. Foodies that have been searching for this infamous chicken should try here as it is most similar IMO. Marinades and sauces tend to hinge on the sweeter side. Recently, we ordered the kalbee/meat jun combo plate and it didn't disappoint. Kalbee was cooked perfectly with lots of flavor while my Husband had ate the meat jun and swears that it's the best. Their food from portion size to taste is always consistent. Although you can't choose the banchan, it's all so flavorful. They usually give kim chee, bean sprout, and seasoned cabbage. Love, love, love all of it! There is no dine in yet so calling in your order is the best way instead of going there and ordering because they get busy especially for lunch. How have I not written a review for Young's Kalbee before now?! This is my go-to spot for meat jun and mandoo on Oahu. I don't know what they do to get the meat to be so tender, flavorful, and just the right amount of crisp-ness to the batter-coated slices of beef, but it is simply amazing. The meat has a slight sweetness to it where you don't need the dipping sauce, but you MUST try the dipping sauce! It, too, is slightly sweet, thicker than the average meat jun sauce, but it pairs perfectly with the meat jun. The mandoo is another must have - a thicker wrapper is used so there's a crunchy outside with a chewy-ness. They use the typical filling of ground pork and veggies, but it is such a good side dish. If the meat jun wasn't so good, I would just get a mandoo plate. The service isn't the most friendly I have experienced, but they are very efficient and to the point. They are usually busy, so expect to wait at least 20 min for your food, but the food is worth the wait. I have never eaten in the restaurant and, since COVID, I don't think you can. It's ok...the food is great take out food. The ambiance of the place is a little run down...like that old-school mom and pop shop that is a comfort to see because you know they've been around for awhile so they know what they are doing. read more

Meat jun- I love meat jun and their meat jun is very good! Its a good size piece of meat covered in the egg batter. Not too thin. Very tasty. Young's special - Lots of food! They gave us a whole container that was filled with just meat. We had leftovers for the next day and then some! Sides - The sides that come with eat plate are also really good! Young's has been a staple in our family for many, many years and the quality and consistency in regard to the dishes we "always" get is outstanding. I'll be primarily reviewing the take out aspect of Young's as I've only dined in once or twice long ago, and I believe they no longer offer dining in as an option. The usual items we get during our family gatherings are the Chicken Katsu, the Meat Jun and the Vegetable plate (all pictured). The Chicken Katsu, in my opinion is the best Chicken Katsu anywhere, hands down. Their Meat Jun is consistently moist and delicious, and their vegetables are consistently tasty and the ideal compliment for the meats we order. I have tried their Kalbi in the past and I wasn't too impressed, but I'm a huge fan of Kalbi so I'm extremely picky when it comes to that particular dish. No matter what kind of meat you order, DO NOT FORGET to get their sauce and to order EXTRA sauce. Yes, she'll charge you for the extra containers but trust me, it's worth it. In our household the Young's sauce is referred to as either "gold" or "liquid gold". With it's consistent and delicious dishes, Young's continues to be a staple for our household gatherings, and will likely continue to be such for as long as I can foresee. read more

Young's Kalbee is hands-down, "the best" takeout Korean barbecue on Oahu. Korean barbecue is my all time favorite barbecue in the whole world! Growing up in Hawaii and having a best friend that's half Korean and a few close friends who is half Korean with a Moms from Korea. I've had a lot of great Korean food growing up. For reference I've also been to Seoul Korea and have had real Korean street food and also the best chicken I've ever had in my life but that's for another review. So as so as I implied in the beginning, I split my Korean food reviews between two categories of takeout and sit down restaurants. So my measuring stick for all Korean take out spots is the Meat Jun and or Kal bi ribs. I'm pretty sure I tried every takeout Korean food spots on the island, both popular Korean chains, local style Korean spots and one off Korean owned spots and for the most part they're all great, some better than others but with Korean food you really can't go wrong. My life long search for the best Meat Jun in Hawaii is finally over. Young's finally got it right and again made base comparison is with my Korean friends mom going up. So what I looks for in a good Meat Jun. 1) Thinly cut meat. I've had meat Jim that is one huge (but thin) piece and it's hard to dip in the sauce when it's one huge piece of meat. 2) egg better stays on the meat. Nothing is worse than when the batter has separated from the meat. 3) and the obvious labor. I've had some meat that has not been flavored or-based in anything and it's just a thin piece of meat Jun then I've had meat that has a lot of flavor in the meat alone and you don't even need to put any sauce on it. 4) Good dipping sauce. For that extra flavor good sauce is key. 5) Great sides dishes to choose from. Everyone who has eaten at a Korean restaurant knows that along with the rice they come with a lot of free side dishes. Sometimes even a Mandu! My go to side dishes at every Korean spot is the bean sprouts, country style potato, tofu and you gotta have Kim Chee with Korean food. I like the cucumber kimchi the best. Young's hits five stars on all of my bullet points. So if you're in the Aiea area and want absolutely delicious Korean food, stop in to Young's Kal bi, you will thank me for it. read more

Living on the mainland, meat jun is one of those foods that really does not exist outside of Hawai'i, so whenever I visit home, I must have it - and Young's Kalbee makes the best version by far. Hands down. Bar none. PERIODT. (I judge harshly anyone who prefers other places). On my last visit home this past Summer, they had to close for an emergency before I had a chance to visit. I was still craving it, so I foolishly went to another restaurant. It didn't even compare - it was so disappointing. So coming back this time, I had been thinking about it weeks prior to my trip. Even after all that buildup in my mind, it still lived up to my high expectations, just as it always does. Perfectly cooked, tons of flavor, and just the right amount of grease, with rice to sop up the juices/sauce. The bean sprouts and cabbage on the side add a nice balance, and the kim chee is super flavorful, garlicky, and pungent. Everything else I've had from here is also good - especially the big bone kalbi, but it is pretty expensive so I rarely get it; however, meat jun is clearly the star. Service is always awesome. The woman who works there always recognizes me since we've been going since for the past 15 years or so (at least?) and asks how my mom is doing. Extra sauce is $0.25 each. We heard it was amazing so of course we got extras. It's sweet and my mother said it's like yoshida sauce with other ingredients added to it. Our order: FISH JUN (17.65) plate... it's fish fillet (not sure what kind of fish) dipped in egg and fried. It's the best dish we had from this place. Even my seafood hating husband (he doesn't like "fishy" or "ocean" smells ‍) was a big fan and agreed it was the best. He ate most of it MEAT JUN (17.65) plate... Which are seasoned beef dipped in egg and fried. Delicious and definitely another must-get from this place. We also ordered a side order of the stuff for $16.25... in retrospect, we kinda wish we got the fish jun instead. Side order of KAL BEE (sliced thin short ribs for $21.95)... & Side order of the KAL BEE (BIG BONE) for $35.75 ..... The regular thin kalbee was tastier because it was thinner, not to mention cheaper. But of course we had to try the big bone too. My husband said it's the type of meat served at Helena's that we like so much. Side order of JAP CHAE. It wasn't on the menu but instead of getting so much rice we got the jap chae. It was okay. We preferred the meat and fish jun. Overall.... We love this place and will come back again next time we are in Oahu. read more
