I've been a patient of NW Eye Surgeons in Renton for over 7 years; everything used to be great…read more However, after the doctor I was seeing, Alana Curatola, left for maternity leave and decided not to return, the level of care has plummeted, and my last 2 visits have been subpar at best! Michael Wong was good, and we began to discuss the need for cataract surgery. Unfortunately, the first time I consulted with the surgeon, Dr Huang, last year, she was pressuring me to have glaucoma surgery and not cataract surgery, saying to me that the cataract surgery could make my glaucoma worse! After I advised her that I was not prepared to do that but wanted info on cataract surgery, she became dismissive. I chalked that up to her being a surgeon, so I went back last Wednesday to discuss it further. This time was worse. Once she realized we'd met before, she became dismissive and talked over me as I tried to ask questions! I finally had to say, "You're not allowing me to ask you any questions". I felt that her general attitude was, "If you won't take my advice and have the glaucoma surgery, I will not educate you by answering your questions". By educating myself, I've learned that the surgery does not guarantee better eyesight or fewer eyedrops; why was she pushing for it? As she rushed me through the appointment, she didn't even review where she would like to see my pressure. She actually said to me, "Well, some people have the attitude of, My eyesight is what it is, and I'm ok with that." Implying that I'm ok with going blind! I assured her that I did not fall into that category. She wanted me to decide to have glaucoma surgery on the spot, asking me, "So what do you want to do"? I advised her that I would be getting a second opinion. She was obviously annoyed that I would question her. She was ending the appointment by suggesting other glaucoma specialists for my second opinion. The nail in the coffin for me was when I had to ASK for a follow-up and to be scheduled for the visual field exam that SHE said was overdue! WOW. It's sad to leave, but I don't feel that my eyesight is important to them, so I will be researching other clinics.

I came in with my insurance card and asked billing to bill my insurance and fix the erroneous charges. After 2 years, not hearing anything from the office, I've thought that my insurance paid the bill. Then, come collection letters for the amount $1,156.00 that not paid by my insurance. By this time, I've changed insurance, and my insurance said they will not investigate anything over 2 years due to their state's statute of limitation. Beautiful facility, and the ladies were nice, but after getting my eyes check on various machines, it all went downhill from there. My appointment was at 2:00 and we got started a little before that. The woman said,"The doctor will be in to go over everything with you" and then we were left sitting in the room waiting and watching a couple videos. At 3:00, a woman moved us to a 2nd room stating,"should only be a few minutes." My feeling is they moved us just so they could use the first room we were in to put someone else to wait. It was like waiting in line for a ride in Disney World. Just when you think the line is moving, you wait standing at the new place in line. At 3:30, I went out to the hall/ office area to ask what's going on and one woman said said, "He's running behind" Yup, we see that. Another woman said, "You should be next". I should have been next an hour ago. Not one person said, "I'm sorry this is taking so long" or "The doctor is running behind." I only got told, "It will be a few minutes" when we were put in the 2nd room at 3:00. When I went to talk with them, I was told, "You should be next." I was offered a water, but at that point I just wanted the doctor to come in and talk with me. I went back in the room and waited 25 more minutes. 3:55- we got up and left. I didn't say a word and simply left the folder of information they gave me on the desk. I was dilated so I couldn't drive with the sun shining off the wet pavement. I was dilated and numbed up for no reason. At a minimum of $11,000 for new lenses, I'll find somewhere else to go. I'm sure they aren't the only ones that do this and I won't spend that much to wait nearly 2 hours past my appointment time. The icing on the cake was being sent the following message before I was gone 5 minutes. I'm sure this is sent after everyone checks out. The problem is they gave us the prescription leaving out a key detail that they refuse to provide, even to contact lens provider, who has called this office twice, received vm both times and no call back. What Dr's office refuses to transfer a prescription? My husband even stopped by the office thinking there was a mis-understanding and not only were they incredibly rude, but refused to give him his own prescription. Terrible experience, price gouging and uncooperative.

I use my glasses for reading far distance since I am nearsighted. I am able to see things pretty clear most of the time so I do not wear my glasses constantly due to the recommendation of a prior optometrist. During my exam, he asked "Why don't you wear contacts?" I'm not sure if it was because my prescription was heavy, or he thought the fact that I had to carry my glasses around was a nuisance. He didn't offer any in-depth diagnosis of my exam nor provided any advice/talk. I'm also not sure if it was just me, but after getting my eyes dilated, they did not offer any of those thin "sunglasses". Good thing I lived a block away or that would've been a hazard for driving. Weeks later when I returned, they pretty much gave my glasses out and didn't offer to adjust them to my wearing. The 2 stars is for the front receptionist and decent selection of glasses. But for customer service and service focus from Dr. Green, I hope that has improved from my last visit. I will not be returning.
