To echo many of the positive reviews already written, Dr. Herman and his staff are absolutely excellent. Not only are they incredibly knowledgable and professional but, they're also kind humans who genuinely put your pet's wellbeing first. We adopted Dasha, pictured below, at the beginning of the COVID pandemic and were able to get a next day appointment with Dr. Herman. As first time pet owners, we had a lot of questions and Dr. Herman took the time to genuinely answer all of them and made himself available for any follow ups on the phone. We continued to get incredibly personalized attention as we took Dasha for all of her shots and later got her spayed. I couldn't recommend Dr. Herman enough. If you are looking for a veterinary clinic that offers top of the line treatment, respects you and your pet, and offers a genuinely kind and caring atmosphere, then this is your place.

I am deeply grateful for the care that has been provided to Cassie. My 10 year old cat is allergic, asthmatic, and typically suffering from some sort of digestive issue. In summary - before she was treated by Dr. Spencer Herman - she was ill for about a year with either constipation or diarrhea. Her asthma was mostly under control at this time - but I placed myself into deep debt taking care of this poor baby. At the old clinic - an appointment would average about $400 per visit. The previous clinic also wasn't doing their own ultrasounds - they would hire a freelancer to perform them and this would always cost about $500. The freelancer came in twice a week and unexpectedly - so the clinic staff would order all pets to be brought to the office before 8 in the morning - and the pets would be available for pickup in the evening after 6pm. Expensive and traumatic for both the animal and the human. Doctor Herman was able to perform an ultrasound right in his office  - and it took about 5 minutes. Not only that - but he was able to show me what was going on, and educate me about what exactly I was looking at. This is the kind of care and compassion I appreciate and respect in a nice human being. It goes above and beyond. I am so deeply grateful for the care, compassion, and kindness on behalf of Dr. Herman and those I have met from his staff: Jamell, Norman, and Nadira. Thanks for being kind, patient, and present while I run through questions and concerns. Cassie is now at a healthy weight, breathing normally, digesting properly, and not scratching her skin off. Should any of Cassie's illnesses flare up again - I am confident that Dr. Spencer Herman and the staff at York Veterinary Center will guide us through. Thanks for all you do.

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Herman. I was referred to Dr. Herman by Neighbor who has been going to him for years. He is not only the most reasonably priced vet in the area, but the way he handles my dog and talks to me about my animal is very comforting and shows that he cares and has a very good understanding of the animal. He does not try to upsell me and is very upfront about everything that we spoke about regarding my dog- Additionally his vet techs are the nicest people that I've interacted with. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Herman and I would highly recommend that you check out york vet center.

Dr. Herman and his team are truly the best. They take the time to make you and your pets feel comfortable. It's a really nice office right across the street from a parking garage. Also it's only a 4 min walk from the Q! Dr. Herman is really good with my cats Lucy and Aidan. Lucy is very difficult but he's super patient with her. I also appreciate that Dr. Herman is honest and doesn't try to push extra services or unnecessary fees on me. He's easy to talk to and relatable. I'm so glad I found an awesome vet. Even if I have to travel all the way from Queens to see him!

The face of true happiness after all the treats and pets at York Veterinary Center!!

If you're looking for a veterinary practice that goes above and beyond, treats your pets exceptionally well and makes sure you're informed every step of the way, you've find the right place. Cannot say enough good things about Dr. Herman and the entire team. They even call the next day to make sure your pet is feeling okay and end the visit with delicious treats. It's always easy to schedule an appointment and they really do care about your pets. We shifted our veterinary services to york vet after having a terrible experience elsewhere on the UES that had left our puppy, Snowy scared and intimidated. Despite her fear and anxiety, they always handle Snowy extremely well. She has never let out so much as a howl when being handled and checked. I'm so so glad we found York Vet. Highly highly recommend. Thank you again, team york vet!

I brought my chihuahua to York Veterinary Center and had the best experience. The entire team is great: front desk, technician, and doctor. Dr. Herman did a very thorough exam and answered all of my questions. I felt like my dog had the best care. Go see them!

They got my boy in for an appointment quickly, treated him gently (he is wildly anxious in the best of circumstances), and they treated me gently, too (also wildly anxious in the best of circumstances). They were clear, communicative, and Dr. Macri ensured I fully understood what was happening with my little friend and what next steps were. A week later, Gomez is back to normal. I know what to watch for, and if (god forbid) anything else happens, I'll be heading back to MHPH with full confidence my dog will be treated with kindness, compassion, and the best veterinary care available. Thank you to the doc and the entire staff. We are so lucky to have you!

Shout out to Joan at the front desk as well, she always makes the wait in the waiting room less stressful.

I had a horrific experience that escalated from spinal pain to IVDD surgery. I felt very misinformed and neglected by the practice. In fact, Dr. Joseph Tsang (Vesper's surgeon) & the support chat reps were so obviously negligent that SD offered to reimburse us in full for our out-of-pocket medical expenses related to Vesper's case...IF we would sign an NDA agreeing not to publicly share our story. In good conscience, we turned down their settlement offer. If we can prevent even one other dog from suffering unnecessarily the way that ours did, it's worth it to us. In the first few days post-surgery, Vesper was leaking fluid from his incisions, violently shaking, & unable to move on his own. We repeatedly sent messages, photos & videos of Vesper's condition to SD's support chat. They told us his symptoms were normal & no action needed to be taken. After 3 days, Vesper's abdominal wound completely split open. We notified SD that we were headed to the E.R. & brought our dog to VEG Chelsea. Vesper was admitted overnight for intravenous antibiotics & an emergency surgery to clean out his infected wound. The E.R. doc noted on Vesper's records that his other surgical incision showed signs of a potential infection, but Vesper had already gone through so much trauma that she didn't want to cut him open at an additional location. His E.R. records were sent to SD that day, but no one followed up. After the E.R., we scheduled a follow-up appt at SDG. His condition had not improved. He was shaking, unable to stand up, & had a dark red swollen bulge on his lower abdomen the size of a golf ball. Dr. Tsang took Vesper into a separate room to examine him & change his bandages, then brought him back in & told us he looked like he was healing fine. He was so clearly NOT fine, but Dr. Tsang was so self-assured that we let our concerns be silenced. Within 1 hour of returning home, we examined his incisions ourselves & were extremely concerned by the appearance. We messaged the chat with photos & videos & asked them to relay to Dr. Tsang. He replied that it was "just some post-op swelling" & suggested alternating hot & cold compresses. From this point on, we never heard from anyone at Small Door ever again. 18 hours later, we were rushing Vesper to the E.R. again. The swelling was worse & he was visibly suffering. We notified the chat, but never got a reply. When we got to VEG, the E.R. doctor said Vesper's case had become too serious for them to take on (it's a excellent E.R., but small), so they referred us to a specialized vet E.R. for more serious/complex cases (Schwarzman AMC - also excellent). Vesper was admitted there overnight for a 2nd emergency surgery. They told us that it was a good thing we had brought Vesper in when we did because his infection was spreading & he was becoming septic. Later that day, Vesper's medical records were sent from the E.R. to SD. No one ever followed up. Our dog was so sick that we ran 24-hour shifts of care for several weeks. For the next 3 months, we were dealing with the aftermath (an abdominal drain, infected stitches, etc.) & countless doctor's appointments as he gradually healed. Everyone is licensed to make mistakes, but it is how we respond to those mistakes that matters. Neither Dr. Tsang nor anyone at Small Door ever reached out to show any accountability for their repeated failures to provide reliable medical care for our dog. This speaks volumes. Small Door is a VC-backed veterinary sweatshop w a million-dollar marketing budget that enables them to masquerade as the sweet, caring vet-next-door. They may have a nice waiting room, but that has no relation to their quality of care. As a company, they lack adequate processes & training to provide quality veterinary care. I would like to give a shoutout to Dr. Hauser at VEG Chelsea & the incredible team at Schwarzman for saving our amazing little buddy's life & giving him the level of care that he should have had from the start. We now are very happily at Greenwich Village Animal Hospital.

Also, if you were thinking of hiring the vet tech Tatiana as a pet sitter -- DON'T!
