    My fully healed toothless cat!

My cat had a severe case of stomatitis/ gingivitis that required full extraction surgery. My vet offered a price over $4k for the procedure and little clarity on the process. I found Pearly Bites online and was drawn to their upfront layout of their care and cost. Many other places I looked into required a consultation before any info on pricing which was so frustrating. Pearly Bites was so different. Consultation, procedure, and any required follow ups and medication were included in one price. My vet spent an extensive amount of time telling me about the procedure and potential risks. I got check in calls and appointment confirmations as well as extra medication when I struggled to administer pills. I had so much confidence and peace of mind using their services. I could not recommend more. If my cat had teeth left to tend to, I would be back.

This place is amazing. My dog Alfie has had two dentals in the past, and neither were as good of an experience as Pearly Bites. The office is clean and professional, I was seen promptly each time I came in, the receptionist is friendly and welcoming, and the vet who saw Alfie was fantastic-- incredibly competent, and warm (to both Alfie and I). They brought me in for a consult before the procedure and gave me an honest and accurate assessment of Alfie's teeth and were up-front about potential complications. The vet sat me down with a dog teeth model to show me which of Alfie's teeth were areas of concern. As for the actual procedure, while some teeth needed extracted, the vet was able to save each of the essential teeth (canines and molars) that she was initially concerned about. This is not a vet that is going to extract teeth unless it's absolutely necessary. Additionally, after previous dentals, Ive gotten the impression that Alfie had been given a bit too much anesthesia (I.e., he'd been unable to use the bathroom or eat for about 24 hours after waking up), but that was not my experience here. He was eating soft food and using the bathroom within an hour of waking up, and recovery was quite smooth. And his teeth look amazing. This office is also committed to ensuring that pets are recovering well; they bring you back for a check-up after two weeks (not my experience with prior dentals). Finally, everyone at Pearly Bites treated Alfie with care & compassion at all times. He's a special case--he is deaf and blind and unusually anxious in new spaces. Everyone was gentle and friendly with him and he was relaxed to be back in the office when I brought him back for a check up today (absolutely not the case at his usual vet trips).

My baby has a beautiful new smile!

I am so glad I found this place! My dog needed a dental cleaning and I was concerned about the cost. I called a bunch of places and nobody could give me exact pricing. The ranges were so high. This place was completely upfront about pricing and it was surprisingly affordable- especially for NYC! I couldn't be happier with the experience. From beginning to end, the process was fantastic! Nicole, the receptionist, walked me through every detail with patience and professionalism. The doctor was really nice and answered all of my medical questions. They even gave my pup a toothbrush to keep up with cleaning at home just like a human dentist! I highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality, affordable, stress-free dental care for their pet! Pic with Zephyr's fancy new smile below!

PIPO SEZ, "I'LL HAVE ANOTHER HELPING OF THAT ROAST CHICKEN".

We were at the end of the rope with our cat. He had stomatitis and was in great discomfort and unable to eat. We knew we needed a specialist to help our little one and decided on Pearly Bites after researching a few animal dentists. We prayed and placed our little Pipo in the hands of Dr. Livermore and the tech and support crew at Pearlybites. We could not be happier with the outcome of all the work done. The tooth extractions and after care were 100 percent perfect. The attention and direction given by tech German was reassuring and professional. Call backs about questions were addressed quickly. No waiting for answers. Same from Jen the Client Coordinator. She was professional and responsive to all our many questions and quick to call back in a timely manner. It was a very stressful time for us and all involved at Pearlybites were aware and held our hand throughout this horrible time. Thank you Dr. Livermore for your patience and professionalism and outstanding dental work. Thank you German for your patience, caring, and reassuring manner and medical guidance. Thank you Jen for all the extra time and patience needed to get our anxious questions answered and helping with our special requests with scheduling. It seemed impossible that our little Pipo which we love would ever be healthy or happy again. But he's back to his old lovable fat playful self and 100 percent healthy. Thank you to all at Pearly bites. We have recommended you already to friends and anyone in need.

They got my boy in for an appointment quickly, treated him gently (he is wildly anxious in the best of circumstances), and they treated me gently, too (also wildly anxious in the best of circumstances). They were clear, communicative, and Dr. Macri ensured I fully understood what was happening with my little friend and what next steps were. A week later, Gomez is back to normal. I know what to watch for, and if (god forbid) anything else happens, I'll be heading back to MHPH with full confidence my dog will be treated with kindness, compassion, and the best veterinary care available. Thank you to the doc and the entire staff. We are so lucky to have you!

In fact, Dr. Joseph Tsang (Vesper's surgeon) & the support chat reps were so obviously negligent that SD offered to reimburse us in full for our out-of-pocket medical expenses related to Vesper's case...IF we would sign an NDA agreeing not to publicly share our story. In good conscience, we turned down their settlement offer. If we can prevent even one other dog from suffering unnecessarily the way that ours did, it's worth it to us. In the first few days post-surgery, Vesper was leaking fluid from his incisions, violently shaking, & unable to move on his own. We repeatedly sent messages, photos & videos of Vesper's condition to SD's support chat. They told us his symptoms were normal & no action needed to be taken. After 3 days, Vesper's abdominal wound completely split open. We notified SD that we were headed to the E.R. & brought our dog to VEG Chelsea. Vesper was admitted overnight for intravenous antibiotics & an emergency surgery to clean out his infected wound. The E.R. doc noted on Vesper's records that his other surgical incision showed signs of a potential infection, but Vesper had already gone through so much trauma that she didn't want to cut him open at an additional location. His E.R. records were sent to SD that day, but no one followed up. After the E.R., we scheduled a follow-up appt at SDG. His condition had not improved. He was shaking, unable to stand up, & had a dark red swollen bulge on his lower abdomen the size of a golf ball. Dr. Tsang took Vesper into a separate room to examine him & change his bandages, then brought him back in & told us he looked like he was healing fine. He was so clearly NOT fine, but Dr. Tsang was so self-assured that we let our concerns be silenced. Within 1 hour of returning home, we examined his incisions ourselves & were extremely concerned by the appearance. We messaged the chat with photos & videos & asked them to relay to Dr. Tsang. He replied that it was "just some post-op swelling" & suggested alternating hot & cold compresses. From this point on, we never heard from anyone at Small Door ever again. 18 hours later, we were rushing Vesper to the E.R. again. The swelling was worse & he was visibly suffering. We notified the chat, but never got a reply. When we got to VEG, the E.R. doctor said Vesper's case had become too serious for them to take on (it's a excellent E.R., but small), so they referred us to a specialized vet E.R. for more serious/complex cases (Schwarzman AMC - also excellent). Vesper was admitted there overnight for a 2nd emergency surgery. They told us that it was a good thing we had brought Vesper in when we did because his infection was spreading & he was becoming septic. Later that day, Vesper's medical records were sent from the E.R. to SD. No one ever followed up. Our dog was so sick that we ran 24-hour shifts of care for several weeks. For the next 3 months, we were dealing with the aftermath (an abdominal drain, infected stitches, etc.) & countless doctor's appointments as he gradually healed. Everyone is licensed to make mistakes, but it is how we respond to those mistakes that matters. Neither Dr. Tsang nor anyone at Small Door ever reached out to show any accountability for their repeated failures to provide reliable medical care for our dog. This speaks volumes. Small Door is a VC-backed veterinary sweatshop w a million-dollar marketing budget that enables them to masquerade as the sweet, caring vet-next-door. They may have a nice waiting room, but that has no relation to their quality of care. As a company, they lack adequate processes & training to provide quality veterinary care. I would like to give a shoutout to Dr. Hauser at VEG Chelsea & the incredible team at Schwarzman for saving our amazing little buddy's life & giving him the level of care that he should have had from the start. We now are very happily at Greenwich Village Animal Hospital.
