Dr. Fisch, his right hand Millie and Lucy--the first (of many) resident cats who live at the office came to Hells Kitchen on W. 52nd bet 8th & 9th over 30 years ago--When no one, with much sanity, were opening up a business. They have been a staple of Hells Kitchen and consistently kind and professional. I had a cat who was diagnosed with cancer. I appreciated that Dr. Fisch said there was not a lot that he could do and that the cat would let me know when he was ready to pass on. He suggested to take the cat home and enjoy the cat for as long as a cat was able to live a good life. Sure enough six months later the cat was very ill one morning and I (we) knew it was time. I truly appreciate it that we did not spend unnecessary money and torture the poor animal. More recently, he performed dental work on my 11-year-old schnauzer, and she came out of the dental work in amazingly good shape. I have nothing but good things to say. And I will also acknowledge that Dr. Fisch can appear to be a little bit of a curmudgeon. And there's something about that demeanor that I appreciate, respect and enjoy! I used Dr. Fisch at the Clinton Veterinary (419 West 55th Street, NY, NY) ever since I moved to NYC four years ago. He and his staff are friendly, caring and flexible. If I called him and he was with another client, he would always call back, even on the weekends or after hours. If I needed an appointment right away due to an illness with my dog, he always made time to see me right away. My dog , a yellow Labrador mix, recently passed away after 15 and a half years. I think Dr. Fisch's care and compassion had alot to do with his longevity. I no longer have any pets but if I did, Clinton Veterinary is where I would go. I highly recommend them. read more

I had an appt! Yesterday Feb 17 !!My dog Abbott is going on 16 and has some issues that he gets a shot every month! Mon. Wasn't eating so I got him in yesterday! Dr.Price is the best! I can't walk Abbott in and she came out to get him and spent a lot of time with us! Before the shot did bloodwork and Abbott was able to get shot! She spent time trying to get him to use pill pockets! Then she actually took him for a short walk before she put him in car! I actually gave her a big hug! Where do you find such care! We lost our beloved boys some time ago and informed the vets some three times now . We find this most upsetting being barraged with trying to sell us endless goods and nonsense every few days . We blocked them but obviously one checks ones spam time to time . NEVER GIVE THEM YOUR EMAIL . We are having to send a legal letter even though we blocked them , their intense sales pitch never stops . Even before this we had stopped going to this place . The vet is rude , patronising and arrogant . You'd think they were paying us . They should be closers down . I literally never write Yelp reviews but had to create an account to let the public know. DO NOT GO TO THIS VET. They are genuinely a**holes at the desk, the doctor, they are all very rude people. I'm not sure if it's racism since I'm not white? Yes I'm genuinely accusing them of alleged racism in NYC in 2025. When I asked them to transfer my vet's records to a new doctor, they rudely sent them over like they were MAD that we moved (???) and it was like pulling teeth. This happened twice btw, once with my partner's pet as well. So I'm leaving this one star on her behalf as well, you are lucky that we are not leaving 2x 1 star reviews. Lastly, when they sent over the records, it was a photocopy of the doctor's handwritten notes, not digitized. In 2025. Not sure why you have a photocopier and handwritten notes in 2025, but the worst part is that it's in completely ineligible handwriting and I'm not sure how anybody can read this BS. My dog has been a patient here for the past 2 years and I would highly recommend the practice. Honest and reasonable veterinary care, they even have Saturday hours and have always fit me in at the last minute. Not the most high-tech or frills place, but it's clean and the one on one care is much better for my dog than a busy office. Dr. Fisch is extremely knowledgeable and efficient at diagnosing any range of conditions. He provided timely and inexpensive X-rays, and proper diagnostic bloodwork, like ruling out Lyme disease when my dog had a leg injury that came out of nowhere. I am seeing a rehab specialist as well, but will continue to do routine care with this office. He is prompt at returning phone calls, any other vet would not call back in a Friday afternoon, but he called back to advise on dosage of medicine and answer all my silly questions. read more

I want to leave the best review. Such a caring and compassioned receptionist ,I think her name is Millie. I got so much of support from her when my kitty was diagnosed with cancer at there ,I had a broke down In tears and couldn't stop crying, wouldn't imagine such a terrible diagnosis. Doctor Fish who is very good, petient, knowledgeable doctor, he was also recommended by another very good Vet. But after getting diagnose like that I wanted to look second opinion and found other doctor who also has performed surgery. My kitty is now few moths after surgery doing great thanks God. TL,DR; 12/10 would recommend. He, Mille, Wolfgang, & the rest are just fantastic. The best veterinary experience in my adult life since coming here. After discovering my kitten was diagnosed with FelV (leukemia) I was desperate, especially after just having moved to the neighborhood. I called the office as soon as I could and spoke with Millie, the receptionist. She is an absolute GEM and so is everyone I've ever encountered in this office. For the grueling 10 days I dealt with the unforgivable disease, I worked closely with Dr Fisch to make sure every option was explored for helping my baby (if you don't know, FelV prognosis is ultimately fatal). It was to the point where HE would call ME in the morning, just to check and see how my kitten was doing. Never in my adult life of owning pets have I felt more comfortable or respected. Some might think he's harsh - if you like being sugar-coated and nickel-and-dimed, take your business to another vet. He's honest, and if you're willing to be kind, and willing to listen, I have no doubts he will go to great lengths to help you no matter how dire or mundane the issue is with your pet. If, like me, money is certainly an object, you will also find that his prices are mostly much easier on the wallet than other vet clinics I've tried - especially the neighboring Blue Pearl. Edited to add: my older cat was recently diagnosed with diabetes - again, the urgency in which this problem was dealt with, as well as the assurance it would be as economical as possible to deal with, is unheard of for other vet clinics I've used in the past. Is there any accountability for Animal Cruelty over the greed of a veterinarian? Dr. Jeffrey Fisch went on insane rage stampede by pulling third of my beautiful healthy dog perfect teeth without any reason and without asking for my permission. On February 19th 2020 my roommate Nick brought my dog, Lola, an 8 year old Coton de Tulear, to Dr. Fisch for her annual dental cleaning. I was working that day and Dr. Fisch performed this procedure, every two years or so, without any visible harm to my pet. In the past years dental cleaning under anesthesia at his office would cost me about $400 plus blood work about $240. Lola is absolutely healthy, super friendly and happy dog. She has never had any dental problems.  She gets regular haircuts and teeth cleaning at dog spa in addition to teeth cleaning at home.This time, in addition to requested dental cleaning, Dr. Fisch pulled out 13 of her totally perfect teeth.  I was shocked, I would never agree to subject my lovely dog to such torture and have her deal with a handicap condition for life. Should he call me and offer such an option I would certainly decline & get a second opinion.  Did Dr. Fisch lose his mind or was he in dire need of money since he charged  $1,305 for this surgery. He was so careless he told me he pulled 11 teeth but then, upon my request, I was given Lola's 13 perfect teeth (see photos attached). After this incident I checked his reviews and some of them are just horrible. One dog parent even wishes him dead after his pet died as a result of Dr. Fisch maplractice.  I noticed his strange behavior before: he looked very unhappy, annoyed with work, he sometimes ignored my questions, etc. However, I thought he was an experienced doctor with office conveniently located just two blocks away and usually available on a short notice, sometimes even the same day.  I made a huge mistake by not reading his reviews on Yelp beforehand. When I asked why he performed such an invasive surgery, he said Lola's gums indicated periodontal disease and he thought that pulling so many teeth was good for my dog.  He couldn't give me any explanation why he performed such a radical reckless procedure without contacting me and without getting my permission.  Lola was in his clinic for over 6 hours so he had plenty of time to discuss with me all the pros and cons of such a radical surgical procedure. I would seek conservative treatment as first option. I'm sure it is a treatment for dog's gums, if Dr. Fisch was right about sudden periodontal disease. Additionally two months ago when we saw Dr. Fisch for routine vaccinations, I asked him if Lola was in need of dental cleaning - he said it wasn't urgent and gave no indication of any problem with her teeth or gums upon thorough examination.What makes me even more outraged - his office gave me no instructions regarding post op, nothing about removing stitches, or if any special diet was needed, or if follow up appointments needed, etc. No painkillers or antibiotics were prescribed either.On February 20th, Dr. Fisch released Lola's medical history so I can get her to a new veterinarian, but he refused to give me copies of Lola's x-rays. What is he hiding? Perfect mouth that he mutilated?For days Lola looked depressed. Other pet owners and Lola's new veterinarian are shocked over this situation since if even only one or two teeth needed to be extracted owner gets a call for permission All my family and friends are in despair as she always looked so beautiful, happy and with a perfect smile. She will never be able anymore to chew on special dog bones she loves so much, pull her toys from my hands or give me gentle love bites with her front teeth because some deranged veterinarian deprived my beautiful dog so many joys of her life for no reason. Was he driven by sadistic motives or financial need ?Are there any legal remedies, like a lawsuit ? If anyone knows and can recommend what course of action I should take please contact me as soon as possible. Can I at least get back $1,305 (plus $240 for blood work)? I have been bringing my fur babies to Dr. Fisch for almost 10 years and, while he isn't super warm and friendly, he's extremely competent and they have shown me incredible compassion when I lost one of my sweet puppies. This is the last place on Earth you should take your pets. My chow chow puppy Sebastion is dead because of this heartless excuse for a veterinarian. I took Sebastion in to be neutered when he was 6 months old. Up to that point Sebastion was a healthy, happy loving puppy who only knew joy and love and brought so much happiness to my neighbors in Hells Kitchen. I was told to drop him off in the morning and he would be ready to be picked up in the afternoon. When I arrived that afternoon they brought Sebastion out and I could tell he was in pain. Fisch didn't give any instruction, advice or medication. Okay, I figured he was the vet and Sebastion would be okay. On the walk home Sebastion would take a few steps and stop. Licking the area, then take a few more steps and lick some more. That evening and through the night he never slept. I was concerned. Especially after seeing the swelling and the distress Sebastion was in. I called Fisch first thing Thursday morning and he sounded annoyed and was very dismissive with me. Give it time, he said. Things got worse through the day and into the night and Sebastion was in so much pain. I called again on Friday morning after another night of no sleep for me or Sebastion. My poor baby had licked himself raw and was inconsolable. Constantly jumping around in pain and yelping. When we arrived on Friday morning, Fisch took a look at the area and got annoyed with Sebastion. "What are you doing?" As if this was somehow Sebastion's fault. No heart. No sympathy. Just annoyed. He didn't prescribe any pain medication nor did he give any advice or recommendations. He handed me one of those cone collars and sent us home. I reluctantly put it on Sebastion when we got home and he just sat there. By the evening Sebastion was motionless. Sitting in the same position. Not moving. I called the office in tears but, got an answering machine. No one called me back. It was the saddest thing I ever saw. I thought maybe he was just so sleepy that he was too tired to deal with the pain. I fell asleep and the next morning Sebastion was unconscious. He had thrown up all night and was now laying motionless on the floor. I called Fisch again and left a message explaining the situation. It was now Saturday morning. Me and Sebastion had gone through 3 days of hell. Me calling Fisch each day and him dismissing us. Now, because of Sebastion throwing up so much he had aspirated. Fisch said bring him in but, he said, it is Saturday morning and he was extremely busy. I carried sweet Sebastion, a loving blonde chow chow puppy, in my arms back to Fisch's waiting room. Fisch took him into his examination room and said I needed to get him to Bluepearl Veterinary Specialists on 55th Street as Sebastion was unresponsive. Sebastion was throwing up massive amounts of blood. I was a total wreck. My sweet angel. The vet there adviced there was little hope and Sebastion would probably not make it. They recommended a ventilator at $9000 a day for a minimum of 9 to 10 days with no guarantee he would make it. It was all a blur and I was trying to comprehend the situation. How had this happened? I asked if I could see Sebastion. They had taken him downstairs into a large room. When I got down there he was lying on a metal grill and there was a metal pan beneath him filled with blood. His face was soaked in blood. This was the worst thing I have ever experienced in my life. The young lady that was attending Sebastion had tears in her eyes as she tried to keep him still. Sebastion was semi conscious and struggled to greet me. He was so sick. The vet was staring at the floor and I asked if I should put him to sleep. The vet replied that he couldn't make that decision and that was something I should decide. I was living a complete nightmare. I looked at my sweet white puppy now covered in blood and made the decision to put him down. I put my face near him crying and said goodbye to the most loving being I ever had the honor of knowing. A gift from God that was now leaving me too soon. This could have all been avoided had Fisch been a decent veterinarian. A decent human being. Shown some compassion. I have never hated any one person in my life. But, I hate him with all of my being. He took the most delightful puppy who knew nothing but light and joy and destroyed him. From Wednesday to that horrible Saturday morning my sweet Sebastion was thrown into torment, pain and hell. Do yourself and your cat or dog a favor and find somewhere else to go. This disgraceful man should not be allowed to go near any animal. read more

I've been here a few times over the years. This might be a harsh review, but I'm fed up with shoddy service. The gloominess of the place really gets to me (and the cats, too). Every time I've seen the doctor, he's had this I-have-access-to-special-drugs-and-I'm-considering-suicide look. He doesn't have any sense of humor whatsoever. No attempt to make light of the situation. On top of that, he treats the pets with clear disinterest. I suppose what matters to him is the bottom line. When he tells you, with the glazed look of indifference in his eyes, something similar to "I've checked your pet for 30 seconds, I'm going to rip you off before you walk out the door, but please do call in the morning for a follow up..." - you're going to feel like punching someone, too. It's time to exchange convenience for quality of service. (2 stars because Dr. Fisch does perform his job, but he gives only the bare minimum.) read more

I almost never review places but this place deserves this. My cat had a traumatic experience here and it was entirely their fault. They have office cats, wandering about in their office. Cats are solitary and territorial, and it takes a long long time to acclimate cats to one another. Why on earth would a veterinarian have cats in their office? I brought my cat in, already agitated because she's in a carrier and just got walked through several blocks of outdoor NYC, and of course the smell and presence of his cats agitated her further. Then the exam starts, his ham-handed assistant grabs my cat BY THE TAIL, and she starts going bananas. The vet guy then shoves her (like, actually shoves, forcefully) into her carrier and declares that he needs to sedate her. I protest, but at that point my cat has gone through all the trauma and is meekly growling in her carrier. I picked her up later and paid a THREE HUNDRED DOLLAR bill for sedative and a new microchip. This place might be fine for dogs, but DO NOT bring your cat here. This was a horrendous experience. read more

THe worst vet ever. After neutering my dog ($350), he never told us about e-collar or advised us on possibility of diarrhea/vomiting due to the surgery. Nor, give us any pain medicine after the surgery. When returned from the surgery, my dog seemed fine. But started vomiting and having REALLY bad diarrhea. Worried as sick, I went back to the vet after three days, and he prescribed me medicine (for upset stomach) then, and charged me another $120. If you want a vet that does not have any kind of sincerity of love of animals period, and wants to make money by having your dog suffer for days, this is the perfect vet for you. Horrible service. I am a truly neurotic dog owner. My dog (age 9) is my baby and I treat him such. I would not trust him to anyone other than Dr Fisch. I tried other vets when I moved cross town, vets in fancy offices with large practices and both times ended up bringing my baby back to Dr Fisch as the other vets didn't cure what was ailing him. Even simple things like a cough he picked up at day care once -those other places charged me $$$$ and didn't cure him. One trip to Dr Fisch and he was better within 24 hours. He does have great passion for animals and I see evidence of that every time I see him. Short of knitting your pet a sweater, I can't understand what these people think they're not getting?! read more

Very professional staff and Vet - I felt like this was a true business and wasn't one of the small mom & pop operations that sometimes make you question the level of care that you're receiving. The prices were consistent with what you'd find around the city and the location is convenient (for me) to get to. On the negatives, I found the front desk staff to be a touch on the rude side. Additionally, I had to to go through the standard practice of turning down all the extra tests and supervision where the vet really tacks on incredibly expensive surcharges. Dr. Fisch is a great vet. He puts the well being and the medical needs of my dog ahead of my need for self validation, or the constant need for a warm and fuzzy feeling. In my experience with him, he did not try to push or pump or attempt to sell my dog unnecessary medication or treatments. On another note, Dr. Fisch is actually a very funny guy, and if you give him a chance, he will quickly put you and your animal at ease. If you want mud baths or scented candles and a vet who doesn't seem to care about animals go to a chain spa. read more

My pets have been seeing Dr. Fisch for over six years. I have a Basenji and three Italian Greyhounds. Although I no longer live in Manhattan, I still get on the C train and bring the dogs into Dr. Fisch's office. While Dr. Fisch may seem a bit aloof at first, he is genuinely concerned about the dogs and I've learned to appreciate his dry sense of humor. He tells me the hard facts (e.g., "Your dog is overweight") that may be hard to hear but ultimately are in the dogs' best interests. His entire staff is attentive and compassionate. Small practice with efficient, convenient, effective care. My cat needed to be expressed, and they got the job done. It was so quick, my baby boy was bewildered, but not upset. I also appreciate the bluntness with which he informed us that our cat had to go on a diet. At one point, I suggested additional treatments "while we were there" and he said no, let's wait till we see if the expression and diet work out. They did. I saved money and more importantly, I saved him the stress and indignity of additional procedures while he was still under-the-weather. read more

I had to post because all of these other reviews are so scathing ... we LOVE Dr. Fisch, as does our dog. He is not a warm, fuzzy, mushy guy, and that's appropriate. He's very good with our dog, but he doesn't PLAY with him. I think that's what some of these people are expecting. His calmness and quietness help our dog stay calm and be still. In reading these other reviews, it sounds like they just don't care for Dr. Fisch's personality. Not one of the one- and two-star reviews has mentioned whether he's a good vet. Whether he diagnoses correctly and helps keep their pet(s) healthy. It appears they expect him to get weepy every time he sees a sick cat when HIS JOB IS HELPING SICK ANIMALS. While slightly skeptical due to seeing some below-par reviews, my experience at Clinton Veterinary Center was stellar from start to finish. I was warmly welcomed, and after filling out some paperwork, seen right away (ahead of schedule) by Dr. Fisch and one of his team members. They were both very gentle with my cat, who, at 12 years old, has been around the block when it comes to vets. She normally sheds like crazy when at the vet (due to being nervous), but did not shed any extra fur. They did a full exam and took blood and my cat remained calm and quiet the entire time. We discussed the reason I brought my cat in, he listened to my concerns, addressed them, and even called me (personally) the next day with the results of her blood test. I am thrilled with my experience here and will definitely be taking her back for regular exams and anything else that may arise. read more

Dr. Fisch is wonderful. If you want someone to be oooh and ahhh by your pet, and you want the doctor to want cuddles and kisses; a) you're out of your mind 2) Dr. Fisch gets straight to the point. He'll tell you if you're being a slacker with getting your pets to him for check-ups (shots). I'd rather have a vet tell me bluntly what's going on with my Zeus (cat) then to pussy foot around it. We have been taking our small dog to Dr. Fisch for the past 4 years and have been very satisfied with his services. We love our dog to no end and strive to keep him healthy and happy, but we do not go to any ridiculous lengths. Dr. Fisch has always been kind to our dog. He answers our questions professionally and has never pushed us into any unnecessary treatment. In fact, during those times we got nervous about our dog's condition and were eager to agree to any suggested treatment, Dr. Fisch talked us through it in a very reasonable, compassionate manner. If you're looking for someone to coddle you or your pet, you're going to have a bad time with Dr. Fisch. If you require a sweet and cheery attitude from your vet, you're going to have a bad time with Dr. Fisch. If you're looking for a professional to care for your pet and are cost conscious, then Dr. Fisch may be exactly who you need. I am not sure where many of the complaints about Dr. Fisch come from, but I do understand from first hand experience how much owners can love their animal companions. This can make them particularly sensitive to those that they entrust to care for their animals. I suspect that this may be the reason why some of the negative reviewers felt that Dr. Fisch was not providing the necessary care. read more

I have been taking my three year old dog to Dr. Fisch since moving to the Hell's Kitchen area about a year and a half ago. I was told that he could be curt and is not a people-person, but was willing to forgive this if he could provide good care to my dog. Recently my husband and I brought our dog in for a skin problem he was having. Dr. Fisch performed a cytology and came back to us with no results - he said he believed there to be no infection but he did not know what the problem was, and referred us to a specialist. Upon checking out, I told him I did not think $115 for an inconclusive test made sense, and he told me that I should find a new vet- very dismissive. One week letter I took my dog to a dermatologist who informed me that my dog had two different, one quite severe, infections on his skin, and he is now on a strong course of antibiotics. This veterinarian is dismissive, rude, and unthorough. I am dedicated to my pet's health and would pay any amount of money to get him the best care, but paying for inconclusive and rude service is simply not logical. I have since found a new vet who is attentive, professional and kind. read more

This place is terrific in every way. The doctor and staff are friendly and extremely competent. The shop is spotlessly clean and well-organized. These people care for the animals with a combination of no-nonsense gentility and attention to detail, making sure to provide thorough treatment to keep pets in the best health possible. With no drama, no scheduling nightmares, and absolutely no up-sell pressure! I love visiting them and so does my dog. I should add that they go out of their way to keep costs reasonable and clearly explained. There are so many opportunistic pet places in the city -- this is NOT one of them. Dr. Fisch is the best. So is Millie, his amazing assistant. I called and asked the cost and was told $80.00 office call. I told them I was on a budget, and needed to keep costs down. I took my dog for a clipper wound on her side. The cold, rude receptionist was as described by others, and the doctor acted like he had a lifelong grudge against me. By the time I got out of there, my '$80.00 visit' had cost me almost $300.00- for a dime-sized wound that just needed some medication. If you are looking for a true professional who actually cares, please see Dr. Fisch. He is a true Alpha, putting my pets at ease immediately. They have squealed and barked with other vets, but not with Dr. Fisch. Add to that, his incredible passion for his work. I left a non-emergency call at 9pm and had a return call by 10.30pm. I truly believe that Dr. Fisch is in this business to give the best care possible. He and his staff always go extra lengths for my pets health. I cannot recommend him highly enough. read more

My beloved poodle Mungo wasn't eating or drinking, he was not active...I was so upset I called the office and brought him in. After three visits, with no real diagnosis, and no sympathy, I woke up to find Mungo dead on my floor. I never got any answers, no closure, not even an "I'm sorry fr your loss." Dr. Fish is an arrogant, cold-hearted, rude bastard. Here I figured I would stay with the vet that I have always used. I never had a problem with him, I figured he just wasn't warm and friendly, but this dog was my everything, my life, my son. And Dr Fish let him die. I hope he dies. Do not use this asshole. Love Dr Fisch! I work in the "pup business" and have always sent my clients to him and they have always been happy with his services. He doesn't push unnecessary procedures or drugs unless he feels it's appropriate. Been referring him for over ten years. No problems. Rachel, whether a test is inconclusive, negative or positive you still have to pay the lab fees and time. He gave you his opinion which was to see a specialist because he did not know what was wrong. You went to the specialist and received treatment. What's the problem here? He's always had a fine bedside manner to me. He is very calm. That is a good thing. I like him! read more

The whole staff here is great. A lot of vets try to get extra $ from surgery your pets probably don't need, but not here Dr.Fisch seems honest and has helped with anything that has been wrong with my dog..He may not coddle you which is what seems to be the complaints here but he does his job and does it well. read more
