If you order a waffle with real maple syrup yoy need to ask them to warm the syrup. They served me a warm waffle with syrup out of the refrigerator at near freezing temperatures. This made my waffle cold and tasted like an Eggp waffle you haven't put in the toaster yet. The breakfast burrito they served me was not palatable. The scrambled eggs in it were hard and crunchy, and had the texture of uncooked rice. This is probably because they use frozen scrambled eggs or because the eggs have been sitting under a heat lamp for hours. How can they serve such low quality food to their customers? It's because of a lack of details and attention to details. I had to throw away most of the burrito because the hard crunchy eggs were throughout it. read more

It amazes me how (a group of) people can be oblivious to other diners and not consider their (rude) behavior. But maybe I'm being too critical. I love this cafe, and I make a stop nearly every time I'm in the area. Their smoothies, food, coffee and tea are all fantastic. Additionally, there are a few shelves to the right of the service counter with mugs, notebooks, tea boxes, chocolate, and other trinkets. I've bought several excellent gifts from there, including a tumbler, a candle, and a box of tea. The servers are friendly and I look forward to coming in whenever I'm nearby. After a handful of visits, the staff started to recognize me and even knew my usual. Every now and then I've had a somewhat curt interaction, but only during especially busy times. There is only one register, so lines are sometimes out the door during peak hours. I've brought my mom and sister here for lunch and the food is as good as the drinks. The interior is pretty intimate, and can get a little loud during busy times. There's also an outdoor patio which is very nice during the warmer months. I did take a star off for a minor area of improvement. My order has been a little off multiple times-- hot when I requested iced or vice versa, the wrong size, without extras liked whipped cream or flavor shots. It doesn't matter much to me, but it can be a little embarrassing when I'm picking up drinks for others. read more

Stopped for a quick breakfast at Yola's while making a work errand on the west side. I got the country breakfast waffle (pictured) with bacon, a mocha, and an energy bar to go. The waffle was so tasty, fluffy texture with a great classic flavor. I couldn't really taste much of the cheese baked in, but the bacon was a good touch. A nice hearty plate to start the day. I also got the mocha. I wanted it for there, but it took a while and they brought it to me in a to-go cup which was welcome due to having to jet quick. Pretty sweet drink but I'd say better than the average mocha. Energy bar was fun but messy!! Service was alright, although the ordering area gets a little confusing with the lines and everything took a little bit - good to see it busy on a Monday! Solid place for chilling out and relaxing in a very welcoming cafe like space which is the goal of the place. "Be it 2 minutes or 2 hours, its your oasis of calm for your busy life" per the saying on the business website. I love that! Not really big inside, seated maybe 30 people I'd say but that keeps it low key and quiet as well. Solid list of breakfast/brunch staples all done simply and locally with love. Waffle, BELT and baked oatmeal all winner. Coffee is also legit. Staff are way kind and social. The cashier was super nice and helpful. I even LIsa, co-owner of the business come out and say hello as well. Kind of business that cares deeply about its customers. Cute cafe! Unique menu items! I've been eyeballing Yola's Cafe on Instagram for awhile now and my mouth is always watering for these scrumptious looking waffles! We ordered the seasonal pumpkin pecan waffle, and the bacon waffle, both of which, were as tasty as they look! I ordered the honey lavender latte, delightful taste! Not too sweet, very flavorful. We can wait to return to try new menu items! Yola's is handling safety measures perfectly with well-distanced tables and outdoor seating with heaters. I was a little surprised I have enjoyed Yolas more than I thought I would. We've had the burrito, breakfast sandwich and various waffles. All have been good, maybe not great but really good. They also have some gluten free bakery items that have all tasted great. The indoor furniture and decor isn't anything special so that's probably the only reason I wouldn't give it a 5. Yola's Cafe is a delightful little spot tucked away in a cute west side neighborhood. Their outdoor space is large and great when the weather accommodates, and there is a large amount of indoor seating. This place gets pretty busy around the 9am hour, so plenty of places to sit is critical! You can see individuals doing work/homework, friends chatting and catching up, business meetings, and maybe even someone doing a job interview? The staff is always super kind, cheery, and helpful if you don't know what to order. On my last visit I ordered the yogurt with fruit and granola, and it did not disappoint! It was far more than I expected, with freshly chopped strawberries and bananas with yummy looking granola. And it was LARGE! Definitely a complete breakfast and not just something in a small cup you get from other places. It was excellent! The espresso drinks and coffee do not disappoint either, and it is always nice to support a local business instead of going to the chains. The warm, inviting interior atmosphere of Yola's also makes it much more worthwhile! read more

Went here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The best part is they have a free coffee with order if you check in on Yelp! We ended up ordering the country breakfast waffle and the veggie frittata. While the frittata was good, some of the edges were burnt. The salad was good though, and I liked that the dressing came on the side. Waffles are definitely the way to go here though. They have a great texture, soft yet it held up to the savory ingredients in it. There was a lot of flavor without feeling to heavy. It would have been ideal to have some greens with it. An intimate, local café hidden in the Commerce Drive area. Went around 8:30am, and glad I did as this place gets popular mid-morning/lunch hour with all ages. The whole menu looked tasty, but this time I opted to build my own breakfast sandwich (who doesn't love their own creation?) of egg white, smoked turkey, oven roasted tomato, avocado, and herb cheese on a flour tortilla. The size seemed on the smaller end but top-notch in taste. Also indulged in a creamy matcha latté - not sure if they have different milk options since I wasn't asked. Definitely have to return for the delicious lowaffles I was eyeing from another table. Also a plus that Yola's supports local orgs with proceeds from their waffle of the month! read more

I stopped in today after the owner had written a thoughtful response to my prior review. The decor is recently up-dated and I love the rustic touches of the reclaimed wood, and the butcher paper menus on the wall. The thoughtful little tributes to Yola are also a very sweet way for the owner to honor his grandmother, who the cafe is named for. The menus have been up-dated as well, and everything looked amazing. The woman behind me in line agreed and the two of us spent a solid 5 minutes discussing everything we wanted to eat. (Only downfall was that the line was long and very slow moving). Food: sandwiches, salads, and breakfast items. I decided on the harvester (turkey salad, cranberry sauce, goat cheese, and greens on ciabatta) with a side of Slide chips, and it was by far the best decision I made all day. I also snagged an espresso frappe to go. In all, I am impressed with the up-dates and changes that have been made, and I hope to be back soon! read more

Food is hit & miss but the coffee is always delicious and the gluten free brownies are to die for. Andy & I have been here quite a few times and he loves their egg dishes but I got the tomato basil frittata this past time and was not impressed. It was very bland, had a strange texture, and there was hardly any basil or tomato. Luckily I ordered a brownie to go but ended up eating that for lunch instead. I live close to Yola's and love walking here on warm days to see what their monthly waffle is and grab some coffee. Their food is delicious!! I love getting their signature waffles - sometimes the monthly ones are so good I wish they were always around (bring back the Fat Elvis!) They have free WiFi and a color printer that you can use (for a small per page fee). Their patio is great to sit on in the warm weather and you can take your food to-go. They also have a corner with some toys and books for kids! My only issues with this place is the limited seating and that they're not open on Sunday! If you're going during a busy time of day (weekend brunch, for example) don't expect to find a place to sit. This is not a good place for groups larger than 4 (and even that can be a stretch). read more

The last couple of times I've ordered waffles here they've been soft. The last takeout also had half-cooked limp bacon. Today I asked for both my waffle and my bacon to be crisp. To their credit, they got the bacon right. Although I'd prefer if they just consistently got it to me thoroughly cooked. I've never had a bad meal in the cafe, but takeout has been spotty all three times now. I think I'll wait until they reopen. read more

Weak coffee and overpriced breakfast. My wife and I went here on a Saturday and the staff was very friendly, but the food and drink left much to be desired. The nitro coffee was very weak and unimpressive. I ordered the "waffle of the month" which happened to be lemon curd and blueberry. Sounds great right? For $9.50 I was expecting a waffle with lemon curd blended in with the batter and maybe a blueberry reduction. No, instead it was a normal, ordinary waffle with blueberries and lemon curd scooped on top. It tastes fine, but it was really high priced for something I could literally make myself. High prices for unimpressive, bland food, small portions, and without full table service. The fifty dollar meal that a friend of mine and I bought would have easily gone for twenty-five or thirty anywhere else, or for fifteen dollars just to make it yourself and actually add or use any kind of seasoning. A final note, and one I should have seen as a massive red flag, was they have you pay and tip up-front. EDIT: Confirmed with the Manager that this was a normal operating day, and this is indeed how they normally cook their food, so nothing was out of the ordinary. EDIT 2: Response to the manager's amusing response. Thank you for reminding me of the partially-blended drinks we purchased with the large chunks of ice that made the strangely small straws you provided completely useless. I did not accept your "Offer to make it right" because if this bland food was what you offer as a standard, I definitely did not want to bear witness to what you would call a dessert. I don't care what narrow views you hold in the bubble you've isolated yourself in, but plenty of other coffee shops that I will definitely visit and enjoy provide full service with the meal if you order one. But please, continue your unprofessional behavior, whoever purchases your lot after you close is sure to actually provide customer service, and consider the criticism as a learning opportunity instead of an option to act salty towards people trying new things. Can the kitchen staff put a cork in it? The kitchen is open to the cafe area. The young staff was having a loud and boisterous time while I was there. Hard to carry on a conversation or just quietly think from all the shrieking coming from the kitchen. Maybe the fact that their conversation focused on the foibles of the elderly was particularly galling since the cafe was filled with retirees This is a fine cafe but this is the second time I have encountered this here. Who could say no to a freshly made Belgian waffle, made from a family restaurant with a secret ingredient, all topped up with strawberries and whipped cream? Not many. This is the featured item on Yola's breakfast menu, along with a few egg dishes, oatmeal, yogurt and bakery. The lunch menu offers a pretty standard selection of soups and salads, and the drink menu is cafe-standard as well. On my last visit I ordered a smoothie, which was ok but topped with completely deflated whipped cream. :( The atmosphere is comfortable and seems to attract a varied crowd. There is free wireless and plenty of outlets, also some great patio seating. I must say I particularly enjoyed the cafe's selection of music. Yola's is relatively new (it replaced the west end location of Crema Cafe a few months ago) and still putting itself together, so for now I'll say this place is only A-OK, but offers a lot of potential to become something much more than that.
